was quoted that there would be a charge for emergency service on weekend which was very steep. was NOT told there would be any additional charges. After the service person was here for 15 minutes max he left and said that a charge would come via email. He never mentioned additional charges. we got the email invoice and was charged more than $200 for his untangling a chain. we called to dispute this charge and were told too bad. They agreed that they never mentioned additional charges beyond the quoted $350 when we spoke. They started yelling about how long it took to get here fighting traffic even though they arrived within a half hour of our original call. Very disappointing that we were charged $555 for 15 minutes work. I do not recommend this company. Was paying invoice and was told the cc service charge was 4% even though service person said it was 3%. Scam. read more

Okay - venting... I called a few companies for an annual contract for my heater & a/c. Since they're less than 3 years old, I just wanted a cursory check & filter cleaning for the a/c in the spring & the furnace in the fall. I decided to go with TLC, a small, local company rather than a large business. I spoke to Patty at TLC last April and was quoted a price for what I thought (since I asked for annual contract pricing) was for 2 visits and a lower price should I need any additional service. The a/c check went fine and I paid $325 thinking it was for an annual contract. Yesterday was my furnace check. I called at 10am and was told a service person would be here by 12:30-1:00. Well...it was after 2:00. No big deal. Sean cleaned the filter & checked my gas fireplace (2 years old). It took about 1/2 hour. He then asked me for $325. I couldn't speak. From my spring phone call with TLC, I thought I had an "annual" contract that included the spring & fall visits for a total of $325 - not $650!!! Totally outrageous. $325 for 1/2 hour?!? I could have done this work myself. Live & learn. Oh - when I looked at the contract emailed to me in the spring, it had expired, so I couldn't even review the original paperwork. Make sure you get the contract mailed to you. Don't let TLC rip you off. And Sean (service guy) even solicited side jobs for himself, saying he moves outdoor furniture for TLC customers and helps with small jobs. No thanks! I work hard and am so upset with having to pay so much for such a small job. It's crazy. read more

I had Sean come and service my fireplace today. The remote had stopped working and I couldn't even turn the unit on. I had ordered a new remote but hadn't gotten it paired yet. Sean took the time to figure it all out for me.... with a remote I had ordered from an outside source. He also cleaned the fireplace and serviced it as well. I was delighted. Matt Calloway is fanatical about plumbing, heating and cooling. And all things septic. You should have seen the grin on his face as he descended into our septic tank to inspect things down there. He blesses the boiler he installed each time he comes to do his seasonal check-up on our radiant heating system (barefoot in February!), and he's absolutely ecstatic about our new Moen faucets. Best of all, when something isn't right, he is just as fanatical about making good on his work and his promises. First appointment was weeks out. OK, people are busy and help is hard to find. I told them in advance I wouldn't be home and where the key was. Said I would get a phone call 45 minutes before. At 5pm, I get a call saying 15 minutes out. Ok, have the technician call me when he arrives. Never called. Left a card. Then the owner said the tech nician called 3 me 3 times. No record of that call. Tried to insinuate I was in a dead zone.. nope. So I waited for nothing. Never again. Lying and argumentative is no way to run a buisness. My 89 year old mother-in-law's boiler stopped working on Sunday and she was in a panic. I went down the list of the HVAC contractors closest to her home and starting calling. However, husband was told when he called to make the appt. that you could not request first morning appt. Given a price- started to write check. Wrong price- new price- now it was higher. I highly recommend TLC Mechanical and Matt, in partiular, for excellent service! We lost our AC on the hottest day of the year! (Of course!) It was a Sunday around 6:00 pm. when we realized the house was awfully hot and that our AC was definitely not working. I began calling about 8 to 10 HVAC companies and either got voice mail or an offer to come on Monday to take a look at our unit. Several of these companies were advertised to be 24/7 service, so needless to say, I was pretty disappointed. Matt came to our rescue, arriving close to 10 pm. He had to go up on the roof to check things out, wound up going back to his office to get a part and finished up the job around midnight! The hum of our AC unit was the sweetest sound ever! I have used TLC a few times over the years for pipes that leaked or burst in my pump house due to below freezing weather . This was due to other handy men ( carpenters, electricians, well people, ect., unplugging my heater to plug in their power tools, then neglecting to plug my heater back in - wonderful ) My concern is he seems to charge by the hour and by the job. For example, to replace a small six inch pipe - for example $ 200:00 dollars. Then to replace a valve, another $ 250.00 . So, $ 450:00 for parts that cost $ 30:00 dollars ? I am not saying TMC does not do good work. And I did agree to pay the price quoted. What I am saying is I am paying a service charge per hour , plus a price per part ? All bills should be itemized - hourly labor charge - wholesale price for parts, markup on parts, retail price on parts. If you can find a plumber who charges $ 80:00 to 100:00 per hour, reasonable mark up parts, and after the first hour ( service charge ) would charge by the half hour, then that would be fair. read more

When I needed a gas fireplace installed I googled and found TLC Mechanical. Matt Calloway is professional, nice, fast, and affordable. He did excellent work and The Fireplace People when I told them I was using him said "we use Matt for everything." I can see why! So, when I went down last weekend because my mom went in the hospital and found on a Sat. night that my water pipes had froze and burst I didn't know what to do. I called my handyman-- no response. I called the local plumber-- no response. I googled again and who came up? Matt of TLC Mechanical. He came right over, fixed it, and even gave me a break on the emergency fee. Not only that, 2 days later when my mom got out of the hospital, he made a same day visit to her place to fix some plumbing and her fireplace. Now I'm making a list for my husband of contacts for repairs in Cape May and he needs 1 number-- Matt's. After looking over a list of 20 people I no longer use because of their "changing bills" (something that doesn't happen with Matt because he has a laminated book of standard charges for work, so you know what to expect, but seemed to always happen with others), shoddy work (that sometimes had to be done over), I can now say if Matt does it he's the only one I'll turn to! Matt the owner did a good job servicing my fireplace but beware! He put the cover on improperly and it started to fall off and when I called to have it placed properly I didn't want them to go out of their way so I suggested they come when in the area. I was told what day that would be and as far as I was concerned I was on the schedule. I called at 5pm to see where he was. I was told by Matt that he would be on his way. Then the owner Matt called me at 7:20 to tell me I wasn't on the schedule after I waited 2 1/2 hours for the technician to arrive. He proceeded to Yell at me and blame me for braking the cover and he was very confrontational and rude. I was very offended and at this point it was 7:30 at night. I said I would wait for his technician if he would come after he was completed with the other house in my area. His employee was very nice and arrived about 8:15 and we fixed the issue. I would never recommend this company to anyone. No one should be spoken to this way and I feel sorry for the people who work for him. read more
