Since then, the owner Brad has continued to evolve his gym both in supplies, training style, and employees. They offer affordable 1:1 training as well as group fitness classes that are effective and efficient. As a trainer myself, I love their method of using drop-sets, heavy weights, and functional movement/cardio.

I also realized that it was one more excuse that I didn't need to avoid exercising. A long time ago, I had a really good experience with a Personal Trainer, and decided that was what I needed to do. I came across Retrofit Studio reviews here on Yelp, sort of accidentally. I liked what I read from the reviews & their website. I liked the idea of a private studio too. I called Brad & set up a consultation. There is no doubt that Brad loves what he does & wants every client to be successful. He spent a lot of time listening & talking to me about realistic goals, nutrition, and what to expect. He decided to set me up with Mark, one of his trainers. So far, I have had 8 training sessions with Mark. When Brad said he was a good fit for me, he was right! My sessions are 30 minutes, 2 times a week. By the time I leave, I am a sweaty mess! Mark challenges me, makes sure I have good form, and always encouraging. If I don't do it right, I have to do it again. Every session varies to work different muscle groups, especially the areas that are difficult to target. As hard as he makes me work, I'm never too sore to exercise in between our sessions. That is important to me because I need to do my part outside of our sessions. Mark checks with me regarding my diet and what I'm doing to reach my weight loss goals between our sessions. I always have fun training with Mark even when it's really difficult. The studio itself is great. It's very clean, doesn't smell funky like a lot of gyms (ha!), and a great variety of training techniques & equipment. There are a few cardio machines for client use before or after a session. Every trainer is always encouraging clients, whether it's their client or not. What about results? I started to feel stronger right away and continue to feel that way. I'm steadily losing weight & seeing the jiggle disappear! My muffin top is shrinking! I asked my husband if he noticed any changes. The poor guy looked at me with slight fear of answering the wrong way. ha! I wanted an honest answer. I don't expect fast results, but I am curious if the changes I see are noticeable to others. He said that he has seen a big change. He said I have been a lot happier since I started training with Mark. I wasn't expecting that answer & it made me realize I haven't felt that way about getting in shape (or trying to) in a long time. It sort of made me all verklempt! This is one of the best decisions I've made in a long time!

Fuse45 is criminal in their business scheme - taking advantage of clients in the interest of earning an extra dollar. As an unlimited member you are charged $10 for a missed class on top of the $140 you have already paid for a month's worth of sessions. There was actually a morning where I was made to feel "lucky" for not having been charged the $10 for electing not to drive during a snow storm which caused local schools and businesses to close. Furthermore, you WILL be charged TEN days before the month begins with no means of skipping, pausing, or being respected as a person with conflicts on occasion - regardless of whether or not you sign a contract, so I strongly discourage you to provide credit card information as they seemingly do what they choose with it. I authorized a trial month at Fuse45, and when charged for the following month immediately contacted them and merely requested to put the month on hold as I was traveling and could not use the service. When the response was "no, we can't do that, it's against our policy" I immediately contacted my credit card company as 1) I did not authorize the charge and 2) could not be able to make the $140 worth it. At this point I have asked that all subsequent months be canceled as I will not support a business that does not support its clients and their individual needs. It is manipulative and in poor taste to charge customers for services when they have 1) communicated they do not want said service and 2) do not utilize the service.

A new day brings a new set of workouts and class format. Different instructors also help to spice things up! Jerilyn, Joe, Alison - I'm looking at you guys! All of the instructors are knowledgeable, motivating, and really push you to do more. I love the formats of the classes. Each set is 45 seconds which is great for me because I get bored easily. It's helped me to realize that I can do anything for 45 seconds, no matter how hard it is. Since I have been attending classes regularly, I've been feeling much stronger, had more energy, and even decreased pain with a longtime shoulder injury. Not to mention, dropping 10 lbs (along with dietary changes). Even though the workouts are exhausting and take everything out of me, Fuse45 really has become my happy place. If you have been thinking about it, give it a try. Your future self will thank you :)

The best gym EVER. Period. Trust me, you won't regret coming here…read more I came in with my friend for a boxing class. I stopped boxing about 5 years ago. My favorite trainer (ICE) switched locations and I didn't like the other trainers as much. Within 5 minutes of being here, I was speaking to the owner, and my day was made. ICE teaches here now!!! I was sooo happy!! He is literally the best and sweetest person ever. I took a class with one of the other trainers and it was very very challenging. I stayed to say hi to ICE after because he was teaching in half an hour. I didn't think he'd remember me and he did!! He got soooo happy to see me and gave me a huge hug! I even took a picture with him and he hugged me like 3 more times I love him!! He said that I'm always welcome in his class whenever I want. I took 30 min of his class and it was as amazing as I remembered it to be. His class is so fun and challenging. The gym is also really cool. It has portraits made out of boxing gloves and license plates. Such a cool vibe, I wouldn't even expect a gym like this to be in MI. Definitely check out this gym and take a class with ICE!!!! You can even tell him that Angela sent you!

The group classes include bootcamp, The Grind (I'm scared to even try it from the name), and cardio kickboxing. Bootcamp classes are 1/2 kicking boxing and 1/2 Tabata style. The music during class will keep you hype & works well with punching a heavy bag. Classes are held as early as 6am and as late at 7:30pm. It's cool that they have classes 7 days a week. The owner is really nice, but don't let that fool you. Classes are intense, but you work at your pace. My pace, slow pace. He offers personal training sessions (in home or at the building). Classes are reasonably priced and will give you a real workout whether a newbie or athletic. Tip: It is right (less than .25 miles) past 13 Mile Rd. and you have to drive to the back of the building to get in. There are boxing gloves there to use, but you can buy a pair there (or a sporting goods store) for yourself if you don't want to share sweat.

I love that every workout is different and that the coaches are always super approachable and available with modifications or just to give me that extra push when I need it. I think the gym is a sacred place-a place where you should feel safe. A place you should feel…read morecomfortable being yourself as you learn and a place to give your best effort without judgment. The staff at F45 have created this type of place. A place for you to get some me time and forget about the deadlines and the list of priorities. I tried the seven-day trial for $7 and I was impressed with the staff, workouts, facility, equipment, and the cleanliness of the entire place, which includes the bathrooms. Every member carried a wash cloth and disinfectant spray with them throughout the class. They have a back to school special right now where you pay $99 for your first month and then you pay $160 per month, which includes the cost of a heart rate monitor. The earliest session offered was at 7:30 AM on weekdays, 8:00 AM on Saturdays and I believe 9:30 AM on Sundays. They have an earlier session at 6:00 AM on Tuesdays & Thursdays at the Birmingham location on Cole Street, I believe. For my schedule, I really need a 5:00 AM class. The Coaches were professional, friendly, warm, knowledgeable, & supportive. They introduced themselves to me when I walked in and asked my name. They remembered my name too, which was great-"LET'S GO MITCH!" We chatted quite a bit over the seven days about the features and benefits of F45, the other locations & the possibility of starting to offer earlier classes. Also, THEY HAD A DJ SPINNING MUSIC DURING ONE OF MY CLASSES!!! He played a great mix of music. It was awesome. The workouts were challenging. They were HIIT (high intensity interval training) style workouts and every day had a different focus: strength, cardio, endurance, power, etc. Every set of each movement was designed for members to get as many reps as possible (AMRAP) in the allotted time of each set. You should definitely try F45 out for yourself! THE STRUCTURE & FORMAT OF CLASSES: The classes started with an introduction by one of the Coaches who introduced him/herself, the other Coach and they pointed out the newbie-me-and my brother in-law visiting from Florida. Then they discussed the focus, name and format of the class. One Coach described each movement while the other Coach demonstrated all movements that were going to be completed during class, then it was time for the warm-up. Once the warm-up was over, then we immediately started the workout at the station number that we were given. Every station had a different movement and the number of sets per movement differed every day. One day we did four sets of twelve different movements and the first set was forty seconds long with a fifteen-second break. Then a thirty-second set with a ten-second break, then a twenty-second set with a five-second break, then a twenty-second set and then there was thirty seconds to clean your equipment and move to the next station. There were three monitors on the wall that showed someone demonstrating the movements with designated numbers, which made it easy to stay focused and to know what to do next. One day had twenty-seven different movements, so each monitor had nine different movements. We did two sets of each movement that day, which made for a total of fifty-four sets.
