Dirty. Non working equipment that has been reported since I joined over a year and half ago. Gym employees allow a few cowboys to run around and do as they like. A "gentleman" is at the gym at the same time as me speaking louding and dropping weights talking about "how he'd like to beat a b (expletive) into the ground." I have previously reported this man. The last time I did, the gym manager suggested that I get headphones so that I "did not have to hear him anymore." The manager also said "well he's a regular".... If you like chewed gum and nonworking machines with an owner and staff who doesn't seem to care--this is the place for you. Same owner with same attitude at the woodward and 8 location. read more

The electric hair dryers in the locker rooms are excessively noisy. They are registering over 100 decibels on a decibel meter. One was reading out at 106 decibels. This exceeds exposure limits set by the occupational safety and health administration. But OSHA will not get involved unless an employee complains. But it's the members, not the employees, who are using the hair dryers, so there have been no employee complaints. In any event, PF should eventually confirm this problem and rectify it. read more

Excellent gym. Good people. The new seated leg curl machines were poorly designed. The pin that holds it in position on your thighs tends to slip mid-exercise. Very annoying if not dangerous. Go back to the old design please. Again, excellent gym otherwise. read more

I've only been member for two weeks, but so far I'm very pleased with this location. It's kept very clean, and there are plenty of machines, with only a handful out of order. I go mainly for cardiovascular health, and there are more than enough treadmills, bike machines, steppers, and everything else I might use. The staff is uniformly friendly and helpful. The basic membership- $10/month plus $49/year- works out to $3.25/week. If you work out three times a week, that's just over one dollar per visit. If you go every day, it's less than fifty cents per visit. Hard to beat that. read more

Avoid this location. You have Karen's working telling you where to place a pullover which is absolute BS. No it can't be on the ground no it's can't be hung somewhere. Lady I don't have a lock therefore it follows me. Also focus on CLEANING THE MACHINES vs policing the ellipticals when there are 8 open for others. NONE compared to the cleanliness, friendliness and amenity-filled gym like Oak Park's Planet Fitness! My guy upgraded to "black card" membership. Decent gym but shady cancellation process I was interested in going to the gym in Oct of 2022 and I had a Planet Fitness right near me (in Oak Park) so I checked it out. It was a nice gym and not expensive so I joined. The gym experience I had while I was using their gym was good considering the price. I signed up to the $25/month membership so I could use their tanning beds and I started it around 2 Oct 2022 at the Planet Fitness in Oak Park, MI (near Detroit). They bill the $25 on the 17th for their memberships and so I got billed on Oct 17th and Nov 17th $25.05. That was fine. They bill an annual fee of $39 on the first of the second month after you sign up (1st of Dec since I joined in Oct). I had only used the gym about 4 times in about a 6 week period so I decided to cancel my membership. I had read online it was a PROCESS TO CANCEL and that is a bit of an UNDERSTATEMENT. I even checked with a girl at the front desk in mid Nov and she said canceling wasn't a big deal, which isn't true. I had read the terms and services with this annual fee in mind and the only thing in there about canceling talked about a 24-hour notice to cancel (PF terms and service link: https://www.planetfitness.com/mobile/terms-use). So I decided to cancel early about 3 days before 1 Dec to be safe and I went to the lady at the front desk and asked to cancel my membership. She told me that I would be billed the annual fee of $39 as it wasn't 10 days before it was due. I asked her to clarify that I would be charged an annual membership fee several days after I canceled as that seemed odd. She said that was the case and they couldn't cancel it. I reread the terms and conditions, thinking maybe I missed something but no, there was nothing in there on a 10 days cancelation policy in the terms and conditions. I froze my credit cards to block the unauthorized charges they would most likely be putting on my account (they required two credit cards to join, now I know why). Unfortunately, my Amex card only stays locked for a week then automatically unlocks so they charged my Amex the $39 annual fee on Dec 8th. I disputed the charge with Amex, but PF said that they had a "30-cancellation policy" that I had violated. Of course I hadn't violated the terms and conditions that I signed, so I have no idea where they got this "30-cancelation policy". Just 2 days ago, I again disputed it with Amex, providing a link to the PF terms of service on their app which doesn't have a "30-day cancellation policy" and a letter stating to Amex what I described above. Just yesterday, Amex again canceled my dispute saying that I had violated PF terms of service according to them and I needed to pay the charge read more

I hate going to the gym. Having said that, this planet fitness location works great for me! It's large, clean, open 24 hours, and has a friendly staff. Even at their busiest times, I haven't had to wait for a treadmill. The only complaint I have is that the staff, while friendly, don't help the customers on the floor with questions regarding how the machines work. You can schedule a consultation and a staff member will walk around with you and show you - but this is an inconvenient process for those of us who just want to work out and go. It would also be awesome if they had a pool and yoga classes. But overall it's a good place to take care of your basic workout needs. read more

I love the hydro massage nothing better for your body after a hard workout. Or like me I'm a Lyft driver and love how pf is open 24/7. Used this PF for a year while I lived in the area. Friendly staff and tons of equipment. By far the best one around.

Very clean on the floor and in the locker rooms. I've never had to wait to use a shower. I see people walking around cleaning on a regular basis. They do need to monitor the paper towels for cleaning the equipment. On my last visit, two stations were out of towels. Also, they need to monitor the 30 Minute Express. Lately, people just sit there using one machine over and over so I have to skip around. The headphone jacks in some of the machines don't work, so I have to search around for a "good" treadmill or elliptical sometimes. I've noticed they've done maintenance and upgrades on the equipment. Overall, I find this location to be clean, and I don't have to wait to use a machine. The staff is also friendly and helpful. read more

This club has constant issues with members improperly using the circuit weight machines as needed for their own work out and staff does little to nothing to enforce the rules. Tonight, while I was using the circuit with a friend, a couple was using free weights on the bicep curl machine (they were hopping in an out of the free weight area into circuit area). When my circuit brought me to the machine, I politely asked the woman if she was using the circuit, she replied no, "the other machine is taken it's too busy in here". I nicely told her that I was completing the circuit and my next spot was the biceps curl machine. She told me "well you have to wait we just have one set left" (we referring to her boyfriend who was in the free weight area, lifting other weights). I waited for her to finish and I proceeded to use the biceps machine - after missing two rounds of the circuit as she was seated on the machine. Her boyfriend then came over to confront my friend and I and he proceeded to degradingly say "it's not a big deal it's just 30 seconds, do a different work out, we pay to use the gym here" and when we explained so do we, that's when the boyfriend called us "stupid bitch" and "cunt" and got onto the machine. I snapped a picture of him to show management, which he proceeded to flip me off for the photo, so I brought the issue to management and they "spoke" to them- however the couple then went off into another area of the gym and proceeded to continue to workout - so much for a "judgement free zone" where you are verbally abused by patrons for attempting to use the circuit appropriately. And bonus - if you verbal abuse someone, you get to keep working out! read more

OK, I admit it -- I've avoided gyms my entire life, at least since college. But then I was diagnosed with diabetes, started a serious walking program and wanted to keep going when winter weather made sidewalks dangerous. So in January I joined Planet Fitness. At $10 a month I figured it wasn't a big deal, even if I didn't use the membership much, which seemed likely. Instead, the opposite happened. I started going 7 days a week, because I found that easier than restarting after skipping a day. I went to PF 180 times by Labor Day. Here's why it works for me: 1. Their motto is "no gymtimidation." Nobody bothers you or pays much attention. Everyone gets to work at their own pace. If you need motivation, don't expect it from the staff -- it's up to you, bunkie. 2. Help when you need it: the trainer, Kevin, is available by appointment, usually in group settings. He also makes time to talk to people individually on request, and he's helped me a couple of times. There's no charge for training. 3. Enough equipment. There are some busy times of day, but the equipment is recent, high quality, and kept in good working order. I'll never go back to a home treadmill. 4. Cleanliness. Yes, sometimes some of the other members don't wipe down the equipment. So I've started wiping down before AND after use -- it adds about 30 seconds per. The gym itself and locker facilities are kept clean by the staff. 5. Comfortable environment -- no blaring music, good climate control. The staffers are friendly. My only request would be for better lighting in the parking lot, since the place is open 24/7. read more

I've been a member since soon after this location opened, and generally very happy there. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I like best about this location that the members are a very diverse range of ages and ethnicities, and there's exceptional courtesy shown by almost everyone to everyone, the exception being the occasional member that has to talk on their phone while on the treadmill. Otherwise, as a soon to be Senior, I feel very comfortable there. My only complaints - and these are very minor: the music in the locker room is more appealing to the teen/20s crowd , and I'd prefer something that has more broad appeal to people my age. And, while the locker room itself is usually very clean, the individual showers often have leftovers from a prior user which makes them not so pleasant. People should clean up after themselves, but they often don't. read more

I belong to an Equinox back home, but came here in a pinch with my sister and her husband. Light kettle bells, but if you're into machines, they have what you might need. It seemed fairly clean, and wasn't super busy on a Monday night during a holiday. For $20 as a guest you get access for 24 hours, which is not terrible, considering they don't take any of your information (kind of risky, though, because I didn't sign a waiver or anything). Parking is ample, but the area is not well lit at night, so I'd say go with a friend. read more

I have frequented many PF, 2-Sterling Heights locations, Detroit, Shelby Twp, and this location, and I don't think it's clean. I religiously do the 30 minute work out, and I was offended on how dusty and dirty the machines were. It's like they are never touched. Then some guy came and used one of the press machines, and was about to walk away. I stopped him to remind him to wipe down the machine after use. He looked at me then walked away. That is my biggest pet peeve, so I went and told the person behind the counter. They blew me off, and said "I didn't witness anything, therefore, I can't do anything about it". It's a shame the grocery store closed for this! I won't be visiting this location again. read more

I love this gym!!!! Staff is always SUPER helpful!!! Signing up is a breeze and they take you on a tour before you sign up....so you know what you're paying for. The gym is always clean, SPOTLESS!!!! Locker rooms are spacious, just remember to bring your own lock. They have everything you need, treadmills, stair masters, strength machines, Smith Machines, dumbbells and a few spacious rooms for you to do your own thing in. Don't listen to the negative reviews, they're all a bunch of one time gym goers who had a perceived bad experience!!!! I can't stress enough how awesome the staff is and how attentive they are!!! They should let people post anonymously on planet Fitness website their experiences. They should also let people rate the classes and instructor Kevin anonymously. Watch out- I enjoyed this planet fitness location for a couple of years but when it came time to cancel my membership, the front desk attendant did not do it properly and a few months later, they refuse to refund me. It was so embarrassing that they (including regional management) acted like I was lying about it. The facility is enormous and perfect for those looking to just work out in peace. I'm a night owl and work til pretty late so it's awesome having a safe, relaxed place to do my thing. I agree with the last review. This planet fitness is huge. The staff is friendly and the place is really clean. The equipment is the same as all the other ones. I liked how open this planet fitness is and how there is a room for abs separate from the rest of the gym. There are two other rooms as well.. the 30 min room and the stretching (mini weight/mat) room. Worth checking out! read more

A few months ago I asked if the cell phone holders in the machines were ever going to get cleaned. I was told that they were aware of the problem and that it was on a "to do" list. I have followed up a few times with staff because I haven't seen any progress and was told that they had cleaned some of the machines cell phone holders. In fairness they might have I haven't inspected every machine. I'm asking if cleaning the cell phone holders can be part of regular maintenance? read more

The gym is ok but I was harassed by some strange man there trying to give me unwanted advice. I left the area I was working out in and the guy followed me with a bottle of disinfectant and gave me a lecture on how I did disinfect my handle and that it is winter and there are a lot of bugs going around. I went back to my old gym where it is decent and people respect each others space. I felt harassed I will never go back there. read more
