He came to our home the day our son was born since we did a home birth which speaks volumes about his commitment and character. Then, over time, we ended up also seeing his son, Dr. Callie Jr. who is typically who we always see now. My son is 2 and I will admit I was a little hesitant to have him only see a conventionally trained MD for medical care being that we like to look at things from a broad perspective when it comes to medicine. But Dr. Callie is a father of 5 himself and it's very evident in how he treats my son and examines him (stellar bedside manner). I give very careful consideration to all of his recommendations and medical advice because I trust his judgment as a doctor and father. He doesn't pressure us into anything but presents the information, options, and what he would do. He is great at giving anecdotal stories relating to whatever medical situation has presented itself and he's never made me feel silly for needing to get my son checked out for something, even when he was completely fine. Also vip to mention, Dr. Callie Jr. has never been forceful or intimidating to my son in order to evaluate him. My son is treated with gentleness and dignity at every visit. Dr. Callie seems to be able to meet the patient at their level of comfort (even if that's in my lap the whole time) which is very special.

He knew her, respected her and went to school a year or so apart. After all my discussions I've elected to stay in the VA system for my operation. Actually 2 hernias. One Ventral, the other groin. The operation is in 3 days. Going with Medicare would have put my date in July or August. And I would have a 20 pct co pay. I can afford it, but not having it is money in my pocket. Her solo practice office is unusual these days and very hard to find. I, for one, am disillusioned with the growing trend of impersonal supermarket type practices with interchangeable medical providers and invisible management coordinators. It is not surprising that Dr. Miller is particular about who she accepts as a patient. It is a privilege to be accepted by her. I was referred to Dr. Miller after the retirement of my former physician and couldn't be more pleased. She did a complete physical and ordered every test necessary to complement it. The office is low key and comfortable which I like. One thing that is especially important to me is that Dr. Miller thinks out of the box. Her credentials are top rate but so are those of many others. However, nothing beats the skills of a creative internist/diagnostician who can refer to the top specialists ... but only does so if needed. For those who didn't like her I would say that it is important to find a physician who shares your values and expectations. There really isn't one size fits all.

He's been so good to me and wonderful in helping make great decisions. He's counseled me on weight to blood pressure and made sure medical issues are all good and done. I so respect and appreciate Dr. Lowenstein for his wonderful medical knowledge, sober reminder of making good choices and basically his friendship. We've been known to share vacation locations and his knowledge of Alaska is fabulous. If you're looking for somebody to kiss your ass--keep looking. But if you're looking for someone to kick your ass and make you better medically--Dr. Lowenstein is your guy. He's been fabulous to me.

Also he "does not believe in vitamins" so he won't sign off on any OTC medications for care homes. Per his medical assistant. Things like stool softeners, vitamin C and Vitamin D. These homes require a signature for all medications even OTC meds. Just be aware. Also parking at his office is a nightmare.
