I got charged $290 for spark plugs and coils + diagnostic. Was told that my car needed some kind of oil filter replacement, water pump replacement, gas pump and a bunch of other things. It felt very rushed because the guy helping me was on the phone with a car parts company. I got told at first it'd be a quick fix and they'd have my car ready the next day (went in Friday), and then got told no come back Monday. That already make me feel a little uneasy. I paid for what was done to the car and wanted to get a second opinion. Needless to say my car broke down again 2 weeks later in LA. I took it to a shop there which to their surprise the coils and spark plugs were not changed (they told me if they had been they probably put used ones in). This place seemed very dishonest and pushy to me. I am a woman so already I had gone in with the nervousness of getting ripped off for that. But I went in because of the good reviews and closeness. This shop is in my neighborhood so I called ahead to ask how much they charge for the smog check and whoever I spoke to, quoted me $35. I came to the shop a few minutes later and Tuan said he would perform my smog check for $35. He was very pleasant and stopped what he was doing to perform my smog check. After giving me the certificate, he explained that they send the results electronically to the DMV, and I was out the door in 15 minutes. Well that was easy. read more

My first time visiting Tim was yesterday. I needed new brake pads and my tires aligned. He fixed my brakes along with a couple other minor things that needed repair. He was upfront and honest with me and said that he wants to take his time working on my car and not rush through just to get it all done quickly. I really respect that kind of honesty. He had a lot of cars that he was working on! He took me back to my car while it was raised and showed me exactly what he was referring to and what work I would need to have done in the upcoming weeks. I haven't really given any TLC to my Jeep for a little while so I knew there would be some repairs needed. He also looked and my AC that has been broken for a few years now and quoted me a very reasonable price! I have been looking for a long while for someone who I can trust and who does honest good quality work. Just a side note I do I usually price the parts online after its told to me what work needs to be done, just so I know what kind of charges are reasonable. And from this I usually buy my own parts. Tim himself gets 5 stars! But let me explain myself for why this place as a BUSINESS got 3 stars. Tim is an overall great guy. He's super friendly and honest about what your car needs, and doesn't attempt to corner you into any unnecessary services. I hate when people try to upsell me for stuff I don't need and I appreciate Tim a lot for not doing that. He said I needed a transmission fluid flush and he gave me a very fair cost, but said I could do it whenever I needed and that it wasn't super urgent. Other places I've been to have given me scary reasons on why I SHOULD get it serviced NOW or else something bad would happen, etc. Garbage. Anyway, Tim likes what he's doing and I can see that I can trust him with my car. However, I came to get my car inspected before a 1,000 mile roadtrip, (brakes, engine, tires, etc.) and was given an estimate that my car would be ready in an hour. Fast forward two hours and my car wasn't done yet. Fine. I asked around and no one except Tim really seemed to speak English. Again, fine. Once I found Tim he said it'd be done "soon." So I kept waiting... and waiting... and waiting... Now I get that there are a lot of cars on the lot and that you're very busy with your work as I can see, but at least respect my time as well. If you had told me that I had to end up waiting three and a half hours for my car, I would have actually left the waiting room and came back to pick my car up later. Or at least let me know and be upfront that I would have to wait a couple more hours. Instead of being productive, I spent my entire afternoon in a small waiting room wondering when my car would return from war. I'd probably still come back because I appreciate Tim and trust him with my car, but I am taking off a couple of stars for that incident. read more

I got quoted 1300$ for parts and labor at the subaru dealership because my headlight on my 2009 subaru wrx was out, they claimed I had to replace ny whole headlight housing, nounts, bulb, and whole wiring. My hubby swore by this shop, so i dropped my car here for about a day, they fixed literally everything with my lights, and even fixed my soundsystem without telling me, refilled all my fluids, and made sure my car was running well!!! I've lived in the Golden Hill area for over 9 years and always pass by this place to see the lot full of cars. To me that means these guys can be trusted and do a good job. These days it's hard to find a good and honest shop and I never felt that I was being up sold on anything. Tim saved my Tahoe when I was sure I had a bad starter. I got the usual clicking noise and no crank when I jumped in the truck for work one morning and I immediately guessed it was the starter. I went through the usual visual checks, battery connections and fuses. I thought for sure I was going to need a tow but somehow I got it started without having to hammer on the starter. Drove it straight to the shop after I got a reasonable quote for the parts and labor on the phone. Tim did a good job and tested everything was working. He also agreed that I had a bad starter. He not only replaced the starter, but he adjusted my transmission cable to make sure it seats in Park correctly. A problem I was having since I had it replaced by another shop. He said he would replace the cable if I brought him one! I don't know why I haven't been taking my truck to this place since they are so close. But now this is my number one go to shop for all work on my truck. I highly recommend this shop if you are in the area. read more

For the longest time I thought this place was nothing more than a parking lot for the Turf Club. Turns out that this auto repair shop does oil changes too... go figure! Tuan is rad and deserves every good word that has been said or written about him. I called ahead and was told that no appointment was needed for a quick oil change and seeing that TNAR is only a few blocks from home I didn't need to walk more than a few minutes if things ran too long. The good news is that I was out the door in about 35 minutes with fresh oil and only $30.00 lighter in the wallet. That's a price that I can stomach! Here's the warm and fuzzy part of my oil change... So, Tuan worked at this exact location over 20 years ago. He did his time for the former owner and then jumped to a few different spots including Pep Boys before coming back part-time. If I could give TN Auto six stars, I'd give them six. Let's get one thing straight: Everyone needs a reliable mechanic. Having just moved to San Diego a little over half a year ago, I finally had that "Oh crap, I need help on my car, and I need it now" moment. While at work, I got a text from my pops saying "Go here" so, of course, I went. When I turned the corner onto C street, all I saw were cars, tons of them. The corner where TN Auto is literally looked like a real life unblock car puzzle game. In fact, there were so many cars that I had to park half on their property and half on the sidewalk because there wasn't any room by 12:30 pm. None of the photos on Yelp do their organized and packed lot justice. Maybe I'll have to go back just to take a picture. I digress. Tuan (who also goes by 'Tim') is honest and respectable. We originally thought something was wrong with the cv axel, but a few hours later I got a call from him telling me that it was, in fact, something totally different. Now, he could've swapped the axel, and I probably would've came back a week from today to THEN get the real problem fixed, but he was honest and told me the truth upfront. Moreover, he ordered the new necessary part late in the afternoon and stayed half an hour past closing hours to make sure I had my car back in order to drive home tonight (part of his crew was still there, too). Do you think the Lexus dealer would've done the same? No way. I paid HALF of what most dealers would charge for far superior service, both mechanically and personally. Tuan and his crew are masters at their craft and have a moral compass to boot. Don't bother wasting your time looking up other places. TN Auto is the real deal. read more

Tn provided great customer service. I was recommended by a friend and this was my first real mechanic I went to see. I have heard nothing but great things about the efficent and great customer service this place provides. I went in because my car was making a humming noise and right away Tn knew what it was, took my car in and with in two hours gave me an exact breakdown of what was wrong with my car and how much it would cost. I got both bearings replaced Nd new brakes and they even went above and beyond by topping of my transmission fluid, and working on some minimal stuff.
