We were camping nearby and decided to hop around some of the small towns for cafes and antiques. We ended up here (and possibly at all three bars in town). Vi's ended up being our favorite stop. We ordered a Sauerkraut Pizza for the first time, and it blew us away! The tangy Kraut with the rich cheese and perfectly greasy, flavorful crust was everything you want in a classic dive-style pizza. The cheese was great quality, the crust had just the right consistency, and the whole thing hit the spot after a long day outdoors. We also grabbed an order of onion rings, it was a massive portion, perfectly crispy! It was honestly shocking to find this level of quality so far away from the city. We sat at the bar with a friendly bartender and chatted with some locals playing pull tabs, which just added to the charm. Great food, great people, and exactly the kind of small-town gem you hope to stumble into while exploring. read more

This is truly a bar and a pizza place. Find your seat and a server will come to take your drink order. If you want food, walk up to VI's window and order. They will give you a number and bring to your table. Separate bills. The beers from the bar were super cold. So good. They have lots of local beers on tap so try a couple. The pizza was excellent. Thin crusted, 10-in pizza was more than I could eat so we took some leftovers home. The only thing was it took a long time to get our pizza, it was nearly an hour after ordering before we got our pizza so sit back and enjoy a beer while you are waiting. read more

Super slow service! Waited 2 hours for our pizza. Pizza is good. Not great, bar and atmosphere is good. I guess when you're the only gig in town you can have the reputation of best pizza in town. Love the local vibe and story of how it all started for them but that being said if you're looking to get in have a couple of drinks and some food make sure you set a side at least a couple hours. read more

Who knew you needed reservations or that they even take reservations?? Ok this was the 4th of July weekend. So just be aware. Normally not an issue. Pizza is always amazing. Small town bar and pizza joint with table service drinks but counter order pizza. Pretty solid service even though it was absolutely packed on our visit. The pizza was very solid - a thinner crust, cut into small pieces which reminds me of a lot of local small town cuts. The hotsy potsy was awesome and the taco was quite good as well. The pizza was absolutely amazing and delicious, got the order to go. Yeah it took awhile to get them, about 30 or 40 minutes but it's home made dough and I believe that they have old school pizza ovens. I'm not sure what they do here that's so special but BY FAR this is THE BEST pizza I've ever tasted!

Always our first stop of the year when we open up the cabin and last stop when we close it. Can't say enough about the pizza, fries and Jameson on the rocks. Our servers are always amazing. Be prepared to have to walk up and maybe wait in line to order. Totally worth the wait. The bar is as old as the town but has been updated and has a very northern MN feel. We plan a ski trip to Giants Ridge every year. Part of the ritual is eating Pizza at Vi's one of the days. Thai pizza and Two Harbors Cream Ale beer awesome. Just make reservations this place is always busy but so worth the wait. read more

Stopped on our way out of town after a weekend visiting the Range. We tried the Vi's Pizza. Friendly staff and customers. Very good pizza. We tried the supreme pizza. My only preference would be to order it "well done" next time as I prefer my cheese a little more golden. Nice sauce and crust - it's in between this and thick. Great drinks and nice prices. We were staying in the area for work and there really aren't a lot of options around, especially on a Monday when several choices are closed. I'd researched before and picked this place for dinner but also asked the front desk at our hotel for recommendations and this was also her first choice. It's a bar like set up with tvs and arcade games but was spacious and welcoming. Speaking of the tvs though it was a Monday and no Monday night football on. Just Canadian hockey. Guess we were too far north? The special of the night was tacos which were recommended. Two in our party got the tacos and two (me included) got pizza. The small is way more than a personal size for an average eater so keep that in mind when ordering. I got the bbq chicken only because it also had pineapple and it was fantastic. We also shared the eggrolls (too spicy for me) and the spinach dip which came with great bread. The tacos were a huge shell fried into a taco. I'm not describing it well so see pic. You order drinks from the table and food from the counter which was fine but we had to figure that out. I would defiantly come back when returning to the area. read more

Sat at the bar for drinks and pizza. The bartender was great -- likable, helpful, efficient. Had to go up to another counter to order the pizza. Waited at the bar for 40 minutes to get a pizza -- absurd. The meat-lovers pizza was good, but not good enough to justify the wait. This was a Thursday night and there were plenty of open seats in the restaurant. I can only imagine how long the wait is on weekends. I will NOT be going back to VI's. read more

Ordered chips and salsa with cheese... waited 45 mins for microwaved burnt cheese on chips with salsa on the side for 8 dollars... horrible then waited another 50 mins for a burnt ass pizza. Stopped by en route to Soudan mines. Kids menu included pizza (kids enjoyed it) and grilled cheese (good bread, with fries). We had fried green beans (a bit too breaded and fried but nice crunch) and fried pickles (now those were quite good!). And a margarita pizza- Wowzas! Mix up on the order tonight...which happens, no big deal. But when the proprietor comes to the table, for what I think will be a "hey sorry, we're on it and we will take care of you" kind of thing...instead we get, and I quote, "she, (the girl in the kitchen) never makes mistakes like that, we'll make you a new one, but I'm going to have to eat this, I mean, not actually eat it, but take the loss". Now mind you, my party of four dropped about 70 bucks there tonight, as we do quite often. Have actually word-of-mouthed how great the pizza is for years now. I have never been guilt-tripped by an owner like that before. Hey guess what Vi's, your pizza is really great, but your table-side manners are atrocious! We waited an hour for a pizza that arrived cold. The Margherita pizza had what seemed to be Miracle Whip on it. There's no reason to put such a thing on a classic pizza! It's a very popular spot in the area and was recommended to us but we can't recommend it and won't go back. read more

If you are in a hurry don't come here. If you are expecting great service, this place might not be for you. If you just want to relax with your friends and just enjoy the finer things in life (pizza!) then this is probably the best spot in town. It does take a while, the staff are dismissive and rude. But who cares? Get a drink and enjoy the pizza. The vi's special and Hawaiian are both solid choices. read more

As far as pizza quality and taste goes, this place gets 5 stars. Unfortunately, it's all the other things that bring the overall rating down. First and foremost-the wait time. They have a huge kitchen, but I've never had a pizza done less than 45 minutes. Usually, it's over an hour. They also don't accept cards. If you don't have cash, there is an ATM next door. The bar and pizza orders are separate, which is another drawback. They don't deliver either. If you go there on a night someone is having a birthday or retirement party, etc. you probably won't get pizza. The wait can be 2-3 hours. Vi's pizza is great, but the business itself is run half-hearted. That's a disappointment. read more

I think this place is a diamond in the rough. WARNING: they do take their time to prepare food so do not expect fast food. But it is some good pizza. Having lived around the border I am in love with their Hotsy Potsy pizza with its jalapeños, banana pepper and hot sauce. But the meat lovers pizza is great too. They are open everyday and late into the night. It is inside a bar, and drinks are separately ordered at the bar. Something about separate establishments.
