During my first month, an employee set up the wrong membership, adding access to a location I never requested and a Buddy Pass I never asked for. Instead of paying about $25, I was charged almost $50 because of their mistake. The following month, my bank declined the automatic payment because I had recently closed that account. As soon as I learned about it, I immediately went to the gym and paid my membership in person. Despite paying right away, I was still charged an additional returned payment fee, leaving me paying twice again. I emailed customer service explaining everything in detail and politely requested a resolution. My email has been completely ignored. Mistakes happen, but charging customers incorrectly twice and then failing to respond at all is unacceptable. I expected much better customer service and hope management takes this issue seriously.

That being said, I paid 300 per month for a year (and more than that during my initial package with check-ins with a coach) and based on what I have seen from other boutique gyms around the area, that is DOUBLE the standard price. 300 dollars, in my opinion is not worth the size of the gym nor the amenities provided. I would happily pay 150 for this gym but that unfortunately is not an option. I do appreciate how often equipment is cleaned, but again that is not worth 300 dollars. Also, both of my favorite coaches left the gym. After the second one left, one that was a favorite of the general clientele, I really saw no more reason to pay exorbitant prices for a gym that happens to be near my home. I did not feel comfortable with the new coaches nor the owners, whom I found a bit unapproachable. I would also point to the fact that most of the many class mates I connected with have left the gym much faster than I did. I do not believe that speaks well about the business that they cannot maintain regulars for a long time. I also made very uncomfortable seeing a woman being allowed to bring her newborn baby in a stroller around heavy weights and barbells for several weeks. No matter how much I thought about it, it was unsafe for the child and also an insult to the patrons who drop a lot of money to access this gym.

5 stars - my go-to Equinox location…read more Equinox Studio City is my home gym and I'm here pretty much every day. I've been to Hollywood, DTLA, West Hollywood, Glendale, Santa Monica, and Studio City is still my favorite overall. Biggest thing is cleanliness. For how busy this place gets, it's always maintained. Towels are always stocked, locker rooms are constantly being cleaned, and I've never walked into a shower that was out of products. There's always staff in there keeping everything in check. Another huge win is Erewhon Studio City right next door. You finish your workout and immediately have a solid post-workout meal ready. Nothing beats that. There's no Earth Bar here, but honestly you don't even need it because Erewhon is better. You do have to time your workouts though. Early mornings before 8am are the best, weekends early are even better and usually empty. After 9-10am it starts getting packed, and evenings around 5-7pm are honestly tough if you're trying to get a smooth workout in. People complain about parking because the plaza gets busy, but I've never had an issue. I go early, get a great spot, and I'm out before it gets crazy. One issue I've raised multiple times is people bringing oils into the steam room. When they pour it in, the whole place smells, it sticks to your body and hair, and I've had allergic reactions from it. It happens less now, but when it does it completely ruins the steam room. Feels like something that could be controlled better. The vibe here is more low-key, which I like. People mind their business and just work out. Compared to Hollywood, which can feel more social and sometimes uncomfortable, Studio City feels way more normal and focused. Front desk and trainers are hit or miss. Some are great, some don't even acknowledge you. Trainers here mostly keep to themselves unless you hire them, while other locations feel more welcoming. Not a dealbreaker, just noticeable. Music is at a good level too--it doesn't interfere with your headphones, which I appreciate. At the end of the day, I'm here daily for a reason. If you figure out the timing, this is one of the best Equinox locations in LA.

It ends up putting members in the uncomfortable position of having to say something ourselves, which should not be our responsibility. It would make a big difference if there were designated hours for the student program, for example earlier in the day, and then have them wrap up around 4pm so paying members can actually access the equipment during peak times. I purchased a large package of personal training sessions worth thousands of dollars. My trainer left the company, and after that, nobody at Crunch bothered to reassign me to a new trainer. No phone call. No text. No email. Nothing. I sat there with hundreds of dollars in prepaid sessions that I couldn't use because the gym never assigned me another trainer. When I finally went in to cancel my membership, the manager didn't even realize I still had training sessions remaining until I brought them up myself. His response was that they were going to expire. How exactly was I supposed to use them when your staff never assigned me a trainer? To make matters worse, I submitted feedback through the Crunch website and completed the customer survey I was sent. It specifically said someone would follow up with me. Nobody ever did. I got ripped off for roughly $500 worth of training sessions. This wasn't just poor customer service. It was a complete failure of management and accountability.
