Burnt pancakes for Old Farm Breakfast
    Vivian H.

Decided to go to this diner for breakfast during my first visit at Kingston. It was a recommendation to go to since a lot of breakfast places downtown were busy on a Sunday morning. Sadly there was still about a 20 minute wait for a table here so just be aware that you'll have to wait! The staff was moderately friendly but not super attentive. When water or coffee was low, we repeatedly asked for refills for our table of 5. As well, we waited over 30 minutes for food and asked twice for follow ups. The attitude was not the warmest when I asked but a response of "it is busy but your food will arrive" without anyone actually checking on our order. Once the food arrived, the toast was a bit browner and dryer than I'd like (but that's personal preference) and the pancakes were burnt sadly. Overall the food wasn't impressive and not worth the wait. It is possible I was unlucky and got a bad experience. I really did want to like this place but I'm afraid I won't be going back.

This is a cute diner with blazing fast service, but the food just really wasn't great. We ordered the $15 large breakfast meal and split it 2 ways. It was the perfect amount of food. There were a few things on the plate. The potatoes were outstanding - super yummy and not too mushy. The eggs, sausage, and toast were alright. The pancakes were the problem - they didn't taste fresh. We could have sworn that they tasted exactly similar to the pancake mixes where you only have to add water. We were really looking forward to a fresh stack of pancakes, so they were a big disappointment. We want to highlight the service speed; our food literally showed up in 5 minutes, which was super convenient. All in all, would probably not go back unless looking for reasonably priced food in a rush.

    The Old Farm Style

Standard breakfast food for cheap in a homey, local diner! This place is popular with locals and is a hidden gem for students. This diner has traditional breakfast options for super cheap and good quality. I always get the Old Farm Style but I've had it with the sausage and bacon, both of which were good. I love coming here because the service is always great (the people are super friendly) and perfect for inexpensive homemade breakfast. PS. To a previous review stating that they are rude to foreigners, I completely disagree! They have been nothing but kind each of the 4-5 times I've gone.

    Perfect breakfast.

Perfect eggs just as ordered, over soft, nice chunk of ham and real home fries. Good service, quite busy for breakfast. Clean and fast.

Peter's Place is an institution among the , "where to eat breakfast" places in Kingston and one of my favourite places to eat breakfast on the planet. There's a reason why it's completely full every Saturday and Sunday morning - all morning. It seems that for the most part that you'll always have to wait for a table, though I've never waited more than 10 or so minutes for one. The staff is great and often just brings my girlfriend and I our tea and coffee when we sit. I always get # 13, which is the Big Farmer's Breakfast. $ 8.95 gets you 3 pancakes, 2 fresh eggs, sausage or ham or bacon, pan fried potatoes and a set of toast. I challenge you to find a better value or tasting breakfast in Kingston. If you're looking for a "drink your coffee - read the paper" type of place then this isn't it. I love the, "eat and get out because someone is waiting" atmosphere. A great little place that's well worth a visit.

    Cheese omelette

If you want to gorge yourself on breakfast food on a budget, this is the place to go. I had the cheese omelette with home fries and an order of pancakes. The food was okay. Not amazing. But the portion sizes were enormous. I came in for Sunday brunch just before noon. We were seated immediately, but the place was full. We were lucky there was a table open. As we sat there and started eating, we noticed a line beginning to form at the door. By the time we had finished, there were two groups of four and two groups of three waiting to be seated. We seemed to arrive at just the right time.

Experiences like visiting this place convinces me the credibility of yelp. Great food with great service. Servers are adorable and very helpful. Food is not fancy but they do it right and take good care of every detail. You will not be disappointed.

    A coffee from Peter's!

The place is open and bright wherever you sit, whether on the outdoor patio, downstairs by the bar, or upstairs. Service was excellent. My reservation was smoothly handled, and my server took good care of me. I got offeres some bread and butter after I ordered, which was really a nice surprise. The offered breads were seeded, ollve, and rustic style. All delicious, especially with the sweet butter. For the main meal, I got a half dozen oysters, an order of cha gio and their Ahi Dragon Noodle Salad. The cha gio were crispy, not greasy, sweet and savoury. The oysters were super fresh, sweet and a good size. Along with the usual condiments, they included pickled red onion, which is the first time I've ever had this. I really enjoyed the acidic sweet bite enhancing the sweetness of the oysters. The Ahi Dragon Noodle Salad had microgreens, red cabbage, red and green and yellow sweet pepper, red chili pepper, edamame, coriander, green onions, and fried parsnip chips. The Ahi was charred on the outside, fresh and meaty. I appreciate that the sesame oil, soy sauce and hint of chili on the perfectly chewy noodles was separate from the veggies. The vegetables had a very clean flavour, but I would have liked something more, maybe a touch of citrus. A glass of good wine rounded out the whole experience. I was way too full at the end of the meal to even contemplate dessert. All in all, a great meal, and I would return any time.

I know this place exists because of their generosity to Camp Outlook. They have absolutely 100% scrumptious bread! And baked goodies. I love their dinner buns. They are made in this pull-a-part style and absolutely delicious to accompany soup, or toasted with butter, or, Pb&J, or cheese. Almost anything really, you can't go wrong. I was in Kingston recently and really wanted those dinner buns, unfortunately they didn't have them. Not on Sunday, not on Monday. I settled for their mini olive and rosemary dinner rolls. They were good too. Service here is pretty on point. There was a question I had asked the lady behind the counter and she came out from behind the counter to help answer any questions I had and serve me. She was really awesome! They have a catering menu, a cafe for brunch, they have fresh breads available and they do specialty cakes. They are totally the real deal. AND they sell Neal Brothers' cheese puffs. Havent been able to find these bad boys anywhere. They discontinued them in grocery retailers and health food stores don't seem to carry them. I'm in Toronto and havent been able to find them for a couple of years. They are a pretty penny, yet worth it for the sheer pleasure. Their store front is spacious and inviting. Certainly the place to be, everyone seemed to be walking in when I went. It is very well known. They can for sure accomodate a large amount of people. I would most definitely revisit when Im in the city next.

Ok, COVID doesn't help, as this is happening more frequently these days!!) Needing to recharge and regroup to figure out where we are going and make it to the hardware store, we were hungry and needed better sustenance than is usually provided in a coffee shop. After looking around a bit, we ended up on Kingston's Princess street, and chose to try this place out. First of all, it's deceiving from the outside: it looks way smaller than it really is, like a bakery outlet with a reasonable variety of baked goods on offer. However, there's a back portion where customers can eat in the store. Being that we're still getting used to the "new normal", we weren't ready to dine in, and wanted a seat outside. **Note: to get a seat on the patio, you actually have to go outside to find the hostess and request a table. It was a Sunday afternoon, and they were doing a booming business! But the wait was not long. We had a hard time choosing from the menu; there are a LOT of options! I was expecting a beautiful bakery selection but it was more sandwiches and other unusual, eclectic meals. We eventually chose a burger for hubby, and a shrimp sandwich for me, with a regular coffee for him and Café au lait for me. The Café was great, and even came with a wafer cookie. The wait was not long for our meals. OK, to be honest, I was not expecting to have my sinuses cleared out while I ate, but the food was so spicy to me, also with an after bite, that I was blowing my nose throughout the meal! Not a good look during COVID (sad face!) Worse, I picked up the great big sandwich to take a bite and a shrimp rolled off the top and fell to the ground! Very sad! These shrimps were lightly breaded and quite tasty! No wonder they gave me a fork and knife! Note to self: use cutlery! Here's the great part: one of the servers, went over and above, beyond the call of duty, and got me another shrimp!! It was so prettily laid out on a lettuce leaf, and quite hot - so fresh! Kudos for that!! I will have to bear this experience in mind for next time we visit Kingston, when we are looking for somewhere different to eat.
