    Spicy Cali Omelet
    Elissa P.

I have been coming to Toast for years. Recent visit I do not think I'll be able to return. I enjoyed my Spicy Cali omelet, but something is different- it wasn't as spicy as typical. My partner had the Cowboy omelet and unfortunately he was food poisoned I believe from the gravy. The hosts were attentive and efficient. Our waitress was ok, she did check in with us but only understood half of our order. The atmosphere is modern. As mentioned after yesterday visit, we will not return our weekend was ruined needless to say.

A unique breakfast spot in downtown Birmingham with potatoes to die for! Our group of four was seated quickly around 10am on a Saturday. The meal is huge and has a lot of yummy sounding options. My group loved their meals. Our waitress was lovely and everything came out in a timely manner. My favorite thing about this place was the unique decor, every room has a different theme!

Great spot for brunch with friends! The decor and ambiance is so cute- ate in the blue wallpaper room by the front window, and it felt like a cozy living room. Got the Nova Scotia benny, and it was delicious. Delicious hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon which was a first for me! The home fries stole the show- perfectly crisped potatoes. The downside is the prices are high, but it's Birmingham so what should I have expected? $20 for a breakfast sandwich is actually wild. As many have stated, 20% gratuity is automatically included but this isn't stated prior so I could see people tipping twice if they are not careful. Still, our server was very kind and helpful.

I really like Toast. It is a swanky boozy type of brunch place that you can have a great afternoon with friends and/or friends and walk away feeling good. The menu is plentiful though lacking in vegan options. The cocktail and beverage menu has many options so even the most discriminating beverage connoisseur should be able to find a beverage to their liking. Service is great. The ambiance is whimsical and special. If you're an egg eater you'll enjoy the multitude of available omelettes and there is much more to choose from if you're vegetarian. Again they do need to add a few options to make this a good place for vegans. The price is reflective of the great experience and ambiance you'll experience. My family enjoyed our brunch. I would say this is a better place for adults than a younger crowd. But certainly if necessary you can find something on the menu for children.

Love the ambiance of Toast-whimsical , unique decor. Great place for brunch. Surprised by 20% automatic tip-not based on service quality. Avocado toast on sourdough bread so delicious-love the pickled onion-a unique touch. Wolferman's English muffin so so good!

Curious George Coffee ($10) - banana cold brew, vanilla, whipped cream, and candied pecans
    Kristen H.

Toast in Birmingham, MI, is a retro-chic brunch spot that perfectly blends an old-school diner feel with sleek, upscale decor. The simple black and red exterior, complete with a small patio, leads into a vibrant, colorful interior, where the space features a mahogany-black and granite bar, bright-red furniture, and whimsical patterned wallpapers. My party of four walked in on a Saturday around noon. While the restaurant was bustling both inside and outside, the hostess assured us that the wait would be under 20 minutes if we put our names down on the waitlist and were okay with sitting outside. True to her word, we received a text about 20 minutes later. The short wait wasn't too bad, since Birmingham is a charming area to explore. The outside patio was a bit tight, with tables close together. It was a chillier Michigan summer morning, and there was no heater, but it began to warm up quickly. Our server was lovely, guiding us through some of her favorite items on the extensive menu, which features everything from traditional breakfast and brunch fare to salads, sandwiches, and more unique dishes. The drink menu also offers some fun options. One member of our party ordered the Curious George ($10), described as their house-made banana cold brew with vanilla, whipped cream, and candied pecans. The drink was visually stunning, served in a large glass with a generous amount of whipped cream and candied pecans. However, we found the drink lacking in banana flavor, tasting mostly like a vanilla latte. For $10, it was a bit disappointing and seemed more like an Instagram-worthy drink than one focused on taste. Another member of our party ordered the Huevos Rancheros with Chorizo ($17, $2 extra for chorizo). The dish, described as "crispy corn tortillas, black beans, over-easy eggs, cotija, mexi slaw, guacamole, chipotle sauce, and lime crema," was a good portion with a nice mix of flavors and textures, though they were a bit skimpy with the chorizo. The eggs were perfectly runny, and the corn tortillas stayed crispy despite being soaked in multiple sauces. Another party member ordered the Biscuit + Gravy ($8), labeled as a starter but quite a substantial deal. It came with two sizable rosemary parmesan biscuits drenched in rich turkey sausage gravy, topped with herbs. While biscuits and gravy are not the most visually appealing dish, the herbs added a nice pop of color and flavor contrast to the rich dish. Adding an egg for $1.50 would still make it a filling meal for under $10. Another member of our party, not too hungry, ordered two sides: Ham ($5) and Parmesan Grits ($5). The ham was unremarkable but nicely seasoned. The Parmesan Grits, however, were delicious, with a rich, cheesy flavor and a pleasant grainy texture that allowed the corn to shine through. A crispy cheese cracker on top added a nice touch. I ordered the Pound Cake French Toast ($16), which came with three thick slabs of lemon-vanilla pound cake topped with strawberries, strawberry-mint sauce, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and lemon zest. The cake wasn't too sweet and had a lovely lemon flavor. It was rich and moist inside, though it didn't quite have the "French toast" texture I expected, possibly due to not being soaked in custard long enough. The toppings were delicious, with fresh strawberries, a zesty strawberry mint sauce, rich house-made whipped cream, and lemon zest adding a pop of acidity and texture. Overall, Toast is a fun spot with unique takes on breakfast classics. It's not the cheapest place, but the service is fast and friendly, the ambiance is fun and retro, and the food is tasty. I would definitely return to try some of their other dishes!

Iced Carrot Cake Latte and Peppermint Mocha Latte
    Cami K.

Toast in Birmingham is usually one of my favorite, go-to brunch spots to meet with friends. I specifically prefer the one in Birmingham rather than other locations due to this menu being more diverse. But I had a very confusing experience at my most recent breakfast date.... I ordered a hot Peppermint mocha and it was SPICY... like someone put cayenne pepper in my drink spicy? I handle spicy food well and prefer some ginger to warm up my winter drinks.... but I was struggling to drink it. I added sugar to the drink- that didn't help. I drank all of my water and that also didn't help...... To be clear again, all I ordered was a Peppermint Mocha. There was nothing on the menu that indicated their house coffee would have spice nor that there would be any spice in the Peppermint mocha itself. I had a young, very nice waitress so I was even more confused, stunned, and dumbfounded as to why there was no explanation. After calling her over and telling her that my drink was inexplicably 'spicy... very spicy' she simply asked if I wanted something else.. there was absolutely no explanation as to why my Peppermint Mocha Latte tasted like it was spiked with spice for some reason.. this completely rubbed me the wrong way especially not having heard from a manager, and having to pay Nine Dollars and Fifty cents for the same Iced Carrot Cake Latte my friend got (see picture). Although the iced carrot cake latte looked and sounded good with a boasted "cream cheese frosting cold foam" I found tiny goops of chewy 'cream cheese frosting'. Both of these tastes sitting in my stomach beg for my meal made my food much less enjoyable. After coming here for years with pretty consistent good food and ambiance - I'm sad to say I won't be back due to this very odd experience. I've tried rationalizing this mistake thinking about how early it was (8:30AM) and that everyone has one of those days... but even still. This was unacceptable service.

Love this place! I only wish it was open a bit later. We stopped in to take a break from holiday shopping. Inside the decor is festive for the winter holiday season. We kept it simple with bloody mary's and the maya (Sp?) fries. The Bloody Mary was excellent. The fries were decadent - more than enough for two people to share. The brunch/breakfast menu looks excellent.

Mushroom omelette with side of cheese grits and toast/jelly

Nice cosy ambiance, great breakfast/brunch selection and a full bar to go along. Portions are good size - enough to take home leftovers. Omelettes are delicious and come with choices of sides. Cheesy grits was so good!

Really solid breakfast option and is a place worth visiting. Best time to go is during the summer when they have their outdoor patio open.

I ordered the "Double Trouble" -- French toast loaded with cookie dough, Oreos, Nutella, and chocolate sauce. Let me just say... that dish is a train straight to diabetes. In all seriousness, it was absolutely delicious and indulgent, but definitely on the overly sweet side. If you have a serious sweet tooth, this one's for you. My wife went with the Classic Eggs Benedict, and that was excellent -- well-balanced flavors and cooked just right. The breakfast potatoes, however, were a bit bland. They were cooked well texture-wise but could definitely use more seasoning. Service was so-so, though it seemed like they were pretty busy, which likely played a role. The location is great -- conveniently about a mile from Woodside Church, one of the largest churches in Michigan -- so I can imagine it gets especially packed on weekends. One important note: restroom maintenance needs attention. With only a single restroom per gender, cleanliness is critical. My wife noticed the toilet seat wasn't clean, which is something that should be addressed promptly, especially in a high-traffic establishment. Overall, the food quality was strong, particularly the main dishes, and we'd likely return -- but there are definitely a few operational details that could elevate the experience.

I was a little disappointed initially to be seated at the short bar as it makes me feel like I'm in elementary school due to the height, but this was a busy Saturday morning so I understood as it seems there are limited 2-tops, etc and this visit was at peak hours. It was nice to see the daylight coming through the windows which also made this a relaxing venue. While I was sitting there I was able to observe a lot as the short bar is next to the case displaying many delicious treats. I really laughed to myself as I noticed a couple of future Yelper's (one was 2-year toddler and his probably 4-5 year old sister (possibly celebrating a birthday) make a prompt trip to checkout the dessert offerings first! They were obviously "regulars". I was greeted by one of the wait staff, Mya, who was friendly, served me a coffee and indicated my server would be with me soon. I appreciated seeing the teamwork among the staff. I was eventually served by Owen who was helpful and I ordered an egg white frittata which came with a side of mixed fresh fruit. While I was waiting on my food, I had a vantage point where I could see several entrees come out. I also witnessed one of the two Chefs smiling as he was looking at and preparing the orders which I found interesting. The frittata included spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese, apple chicken sausage, and was delicious. I was still a little hungry, so I realized the future Yelpers mentioned earlier had it right, and I ordered a carrot cake cupcake which Owen mentioned was a good choice. The frosting was delicious and the moist carrot cake was tasty as well. The overall restaurant was hustling and bustling on this morning, I had my coffee cup refilled multiple times and even noticed additional children observing the case with the desserts. I enjoyed the overall experience and did not feel rushed at all, but more like a customer!

There is absolutely nothing bad on the menu. There are so many delicious items, I have a hard time picking what I want since I want everything. First, I love their coffee. We came for lunch and I had already had my morning coffee, but we had not been here in so long, I needed my Original coffee fix and ended up having three more cups. Their coffee taste great all ways, black, with cream, with cream and sugar, so good! My child had a strawberry lemonade. They limit you to only one refill, but they were very kind and asked her if she was ready for her second cup. We love their specialties, which they do warn you takes extra long to bake, about twenty minutes, but it is always worth it. I ended up getting the baby Dutch garden, which is baked. It is so good, so underrated, I love this one every time. It is like an omelette inside a German pancake. It is perfection. I always also need something sweet, so I got a half order of blueberry pancakes. The batter is so good and they give you a side of blueberries in syrup. My child got the baked apple. This is the most iconic treat and a must order if you have never been here before. Again, it is baked sugar, apples and cinnamon inside a German pancake. We both had leftovers. So, each of our meals was like two meals. My husband got the broccoli and cheese omelette and a side of chocolate chip pancakes. They have hands down the best chocolate chip pancakes in the area and their omelettes are so fluffy and delicious. Personally, when I get their omelette, I get the spinach and cheddar which is amazing. Other items I love include the 49ers. Those are the best pancakes, they are a hybrid crepe and American pancake, and if you have never had one, you need to try them, they are ginormous. Their buckwheat pancakes are also so good. Their orange juice is typically fresh squeezed and worth ordering, and there are so many other items I have never tried because I do not have enough room in my stomach. This is a must try for everyone. There is usually a long line, but it tends to go quickly. Service is always friendly.
