A small diner located on 11 Mile several blocks from the party/main strip. Small private lot. Typical Michigan diner food menu. Staff was nice, food was good and not expensive for Royal Oak. Clean

Wow. Stumbled upon this place just looking for some breakfast on a Sunday after the gym. We packed our patience as most places in Royal oak are just slow and the wait is crazy. We walk in and we are sat immediately (). The place has a number of people but they seem to be managing nicely. Server takes our order and brings drinks right away. () In what seemed like less than ten minutes we had a hot meal on our table. I'm floored. The food was amazing, service was awesome and entire experience was surprising. The staff is cleaning, clearing dishes, refilling glasses.... WOW!!! I will definitely be back ..

My son lives in the Royal Oak area, and this restaurant is very close to his house. Him and his girlfriend discovered it recently and it is now their new favorite restaurant. The prices are incredibly reasonable and the food is really delicious. The waitress was very friendly, and the food came out very fast, and everything was fresh.

Hash browns, requested well done for takeout, given white mushy bland potatoes as usual.

Went again to give another chance. Last time. The woman that took our order kept saying they were "busy" and after asking three times for well done hashbrowns to be well done, guess what? They were still barely cooked, but at least not the same mashed potato fare as last time. We will not be going here again, if you're too busy to actually cook something properly that's a really shit sign of a restaurant. Too busy is not an excuse to not cook something.

This is the type of place that both EBS and I love to try, small business with a wide range of choices. While he would have loved the large portions, I am eating light but always try save room and calories for dessert. I know it is hard to mess up grilled cheese, but still it was just like the grilled cheese sandwich you grew up loving, simple and served with pickles (which would have been wasted on EBS). Chocolate ice cream hit the spot. I took a star off because they allow people in without masks. Single use menus, social distancing, staff in masks, hand sanitizer, and other measures follower. Since I have my PT near here, I do look forward to coming back. Not as trendy as others in this city, but good food at a great price is better than trendy any day.

New favorite breakfast spot in the area, hands down. Everything you could want for breakfast, priced well, and executed correctly. I've tried a lot of diners in the area, and it's surprising how difficult making something so simple, simply taste good, can be (Alex's, Berkley Coney, The Avenue). I think this really comes down to ingredient quality, and attention to detail (seasonings, ingredient ratio per dish, etc), which this place seems to have down. I was also pleasantly surprised with their selection of lattes, cappuccinos, etc. Often, the only downside to choosing a coney/diner style restaurant for breakfast instead of getting a coffee + breakfast sandwich/similar directly from your favorite coffee spot is that you're settling for subpar coffee in leu if a satisfying meal. Not here!! I ordered a caramel latte and was genuinely pleased with the flavor and presentation - served in a lidless 16 or 20oz to-go cup with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. You can then grab a lid on your way out to carry it with you for the rest of your morning. In short, the food was delicious and the service was great. Very pleased to have discovered this place!

Always a good portion of food and good service. Gyro omelette is my go-to. A lot of feta, tomato and onion. Maybe a little too much onion. The Bacon Jalepeno Benedict was a special. It was good, not spicy but it was hard to cut through the bacon.

Great food, fast service, awesome prices, clean restaurant! I had the Deuces Wild which tasted great and my daughter loved the pancakes. We had Kathy as our server who was so friendly! We'll definitely be coming back again!

I used to live nearby about 25 years ago and remember coming to a diner in this area for breakfast back then. Fast forward to today--this isn't the same place, but wow, it's absolutely amazing. Right away I loved the vibe. The chalkboards with handwritten menu items and daily specials on the walls give the place so much character and charm. It feels welcoming, classic, and cool all at the same time. The customer service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the country breakfast, which came with biscuits and gravy, eggs, toast, potatoes, and sausage--everything was spot on. I'm usually not a big hash browns person, so I really appreciated that they offer an alternative to the shredded style. I went with the cubed breakfast potatoes (not sure what they officially call them), and they were so much better--crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Between the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere, this place completely won me over. I already know I'll be back next weekend. Oak Diner has a really, really good vibe, and I'm glad I rediscovered breakfast here. Highly recommend.

The people working here were so friendly and personable with literally everyone that walked in the door. The service was top notch. It is also the most adorable place giving vibes of Lamy's food counter at Henry Ford Museum. I loved all of the options on the menu and it was so hard just picking a couple items to try. We had chicken tacos. They were so good and so fresh, I loved the sauce on top. Honestly, I am not sure if it was cheese or a sour cream type mixture, but it was creamy and flavorful. I also had the torta which was absolutely incredible. It had the same chicken as the taco. The chicken was slow cooked or stewed and shredded and was so flavorful, like a homecooked chef's kiss. The bread was fresh. I loved the sauce poured over it, making it a dipped and soaked sandwich. The carrots and cilantro, sliced radishes and sliced fresh jalapenos added a level of crunch, freshness and deeper flavor profile. I would want to get this every time. We also tried their delicious "curly" fries, which were like julienned shoestring fries fired fresh. It seemed like every dish was made fresh and right in front of you. So worth it, plus the prices are great. I would love to try their fried chicken plate, their breakfast sandwiches, and their other desserts. We talked to the man behind the counter who seemed like maybe a manager. He gave us their famous chocolate chip cookie to try. It was fresh baked and delicious. I would love to take home more of those. It looked so simple but was better than many bakeries specializing in cookies alone. He also gave us an second order of fries to take home with my leftovers, just top notch kindness and service. This man told us that OWL owns other restaurants and we would probably like them. I am open to trying more of their group but I do want to return here. This is one of those diners you would find being profiled for best kept secret or gourmet home cooked foods under the guise of fast food.

I do want to start with some thoughts before I give the highlights. We were charged a percent for using a credit card. I cannot speak to the in-person menu, but I combed the online menu and it did not mention that. We were also charged for ranch. Most places do not do that, and we were not informed there would be an upcharge. Most places allow you a sauce to go with fries. Also, for my meal, there is an image of an extra sauce which it did not come with, but we were charged for two small portions of ranch. Last, the server was just okay. I always enthusiastically ask questions to get to know more about a place. I asked if they had any other fruity drinks. She pointed to the drink menu and indicated just the Paloma. I said, but you have a full bar, this is the only fruity drink you make? She did not want to ask the bar, but I asked her to. The bar apparently only came up with one other drink idea, which I ended up getting two drinks listed on the menu (both very good) but it seemed like work for her to go out of her way to inquire. I also bet they could have made many fruity drinks, like maybe a Mai Tai, or some equivalent. Oh well. On the other hand, the Paloma was actually very good. It was a quality Paloma and I do recommend. Their other drink was seasonal with lavender, also a very nice drink. Most of the other places, like Honcho, I have no problem with getting a variety of drinks or inquiring about them, and the bar tender here did a great job. I came here because I was targeted by an ad on Instagram. This place was not on my radar, but since they created a meal (Steak-frites) very similar to Le Relais in Paris and New York, etc... I wanted to try it. It came with bottomless parm fries. The fries were crispy, savory, and delightful. The steak was super well cooked and was like butter. You did not even need a knife, it cut with a fork. Since I love next day leftovers, the steak was still super delicious and tender the next day. It was still like butter and cut with a fork. I would absolutely come back for that and bring the rest of my family. We also tried the tri-tip sandwich. We were told the bread was made fresh. I thought it was very good and very tender. My husband would have liked an au jus or horseradish sauce. He would try the hamburger next, but I would love another steak-frites, like right now! We were sad the coffee and pastry section closed early. In the past, at Honcho, we would get coffee and pastry after dinner since their coffee tends to be really good and quality. I would consider coming for brunch to try some. We talked to a gentleman who was part of the business as he was working hard. He was very kind and knowledgeable and took the time to hear our thoughts. I told him I was here for the steak. He thought I had a "but". I did not, it was great and I hope they can maintain that price point and the second serving of fries, because that was my main reason for visiting. He let us know the menu recently changed. I am not able to compare since this was my first time, but I liked that they had a steak dinner and pizza. If we come back my oldest loves this group's pizza, she gets it at Vinsetta, and this one looked very good.
