This was one of the best brunches I've had in awhile. I was visiting friends in Virginia and one of them suggested having brunch my last day there. We needed a place that had a variety of food options and while I can eat almost anything one of my friends is vegan. We got there around 11:30 on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded and we were able to easily find a seat (keep in mind that it's outdoor seating only right now due to COVID19) and then had a short wait in line to order our food. I had the Salmon plate, a side of homefries, and a side of bacon. One friend has avocado toast with bacon added and my other friend had the avocado toast vegan style and the veg and chili bowl vegan style. Everything was delicious and the restaurant was so accommodating to our requests/modifications. Oh! I almost forgot!!! We ordered a pitcher of mimosas and it was a real pitcher!! Like not a carafe but a pitcher. Definitely got our money's worth. Unfortunately I don't live in Virginia so I won't be able to visit again for awhile but both friends are local and both plan to visit again soon. I have only been here twice. But haven't had issues. We met up here with other family and dined outside. Outside seating consisted of three large picnic tables that offered more social distancing than the smaller tables closer to the restaurant. The picnic tables can hold about 10 people comfortably and are partitioned by flowers offering privacy. The chili bowl was plentiful, hot and hearty. I had heaps leftover and took it home. My brother and niece had sandwiches that were hefty and satisfying. My other niece had shrimp and grits which she said were good as well. Great Food. Relaxed casual environment. This restaurant is in a industrial type area, I definitely thought while driving there that I was in the wrong place. Walking in the restaurant is an artsy, urban, rustic decor. I love how they took an older building and brought life to it. This restaurant is small but has so much personality. Also I love that they have an actual pay phone in the restaurant. On to the most important part...the FOOD. It is called toast, because they have fresh delicious bread. It is not just the toast but everything that goes with it which is perfectly prepared. We started with the Taco Pig, which was pork carnitas, guacamole, crema, corn salsa and all around deliciousness! Our little one had the chicken nugget kid's meal, it comes with nuggets, fruit (I love that), chips and a juice or milk. Now the BEST thing we had tonight was the Porkscallion sandwich. Wow, texture, flavor, the frittata was cooked perfectly that it complemented the pulled pork and of course it was sandwiched between two slices of their delicious fresh bread. Drinks...my husband enjoyed the Tom Collins and the Negronis. The cocktails were expertly prepared and he is very particular about these cocktails, not to mention they were on the happy hour menu. Desserts, we tried the Churro which is a delicious twist on the Churro dessert, we really enjoyed it. Their Strawberry Puff is freshly baked interpretation of a pop tart. It was flaky, hot, fresh and good. Our night did not go completely smooth. There was a wicked bad storm outside. Water rushed in one area, they quickly fixed the unexpected issue. There were some delays bringing out our food, but I really didn't mind because we really enjoyed our company and the environment. The staff was so helpful, kind and you can tell how much they value their customers. The restaurant has a great vibe. Toast has been on my 'Brunching Across HR' list for a while so I was able to check it off this weekend while in the area with an old friend doing yoga nearby. At around 11am they were fairly busy so we managed to squeeze into two seats at the bar and were quickly brought waters by a server. We browsed the menu and chose two items to try - I saw several that I was curious about - and the food was out pretty quickly probably 10 minutes later. My friend went with the Roasted Veg Bowl for $12.35 which was chili with broccoli, potatoes, carrots, soft boiled eggs and quest fresco with toast. Pretty hearty and filling for sure and a large portion. I went with the Eggs Italia for $13.65 which was also a huge portion. It had 3 soft boiled eggs with roasted veggies, a yummy vegan Beyond Sausage red sauce, topped with mixed greens and shaved parmesan and two buttered pieces of toast. HUGE portion and it had a lot of potatoes in the bottom which must be the mixed veggies. It was too hearty and rich for me so I ate about half but did enjoy the red sauce and veggies a lot. I saw some interesting items on the menu and would like to come back with my fiancee when I'm starving to death and want to load on carbs bc that's when I'd want to eat the heavy items on the menu here. They do have some salads but it's most carbs carbs carbs. With a name like "Toast" it's what you'd expect. It's small, with an outdoor patio and seating and tables inside for about 12-15 people, bar seating, and hightop seating around the windows. They also said they use a nearby dining room on weekends as well where you can order there and walk around the building and sit, we didn't look in there but that provides even more seating when they're busy. I liked the vibe, the cute murals on the wall with toast action scenes, and the bar. Would def. come back again when I'm in the mood for more carbs and savories. read more

I ordered the Quiche Me and my boyfriend ordered the Smoked Salmon. Both were decent sized portions and we enjoyed the home Fries. A friend and I were in the area getting some coffee and we really wanted to grab brunch. Toast came up on our search and was in a close enough distance that we didn't need to move the car and could walk. I normally look closer into a menu before going anywhere making sure there are at least a few GF choices. I figured we'll it's a breakfast place I could at least get eggs and a protein. The weather was fairly nice so we decided to sit outside. There are two outdoor seating areas and it is dog friendly as well. You grab a menu and order inside and they give you a number to bring back to your table. This menu is not your average brunch menu it is quite unique. There were pairings of Chili options, Grits options, sandwiches, salads and open face toasts etc. They also have a few items under Brunch and dessert. I really should've asked more about the menu but I decided to go the easy route of Shrimp & grits. I should've asked more about the way they prepared it to make sure it was safe for me to eat. My friend ordered the Verde chicken grit bowl. We both love grits and their style of grits is definitely unique. It wasn't bad but not something I'd order again. We both ended up adding extra salt and thought there were too many extra items added to the grits. We both ended up having stomach aches for the rest of the day. Personally for me I know most likely my entree wasn't gluten free which is my fault. It is a cute restaurant but there is just nothing appealing on the menu for me. read more

The food was good- nothing that blew me away but pretty tasty. Exactly what you'd expect for a slightly upscale brunch place. I really enjoyed the cocolonial latte- basically a London Fog with added coconut oil, which gave an enhanced, sweet flavor. I'm from New Orleans, so the shrimp and grits was not the best I've ever had, but it was tasty for not being in New Orleans, lol. One HUGE issue we had, though, was that one person in our party ordered the salmon plate, which came with a salad that had walnuts in it. He is extremely allergic to all nuts, and the inclusion of nuts in the salad was NOT indicated at all on the menu. We told our server, and he was brought a new plate, but the fact that there was no allergy warning or note on the menu is extremely dangerous. Luckily, he noticed the walnuts before he took a bite, but if he had, he could've gone into anaphylaxis. Also, I definitely think his portion of the meal should've been comped since they almost gave him a severe medical reaction. Please be aware!! I came here for an event earlier in the summer and what a cute space! They have a main bar area as well as a patio that is then connected to another bar area. The layout makes it a lot of fun because it feels small and cozy while still having quite a bit of space for everyone to spread out. Old school pay phone? Yes please! And the staff was super friendly and accommodating! Food-wise, I wasn't super impressed, but perhaps I didn't order the right thing. I'd call the vibe here definitely hipster in orientation -- ordered the meat and cheese board with a kale salad. Both were okay, but nothing I would sing praises about making me dying to come back for more. They had a pretty decent drink menu that you could choose from, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. Compared to other brunch spots in the area (like Handsome Biscuit or Mea Cupola), I was less than impressed. I'd say the food portion was easily a 3.5 or lower, but the ambiance was good enough that I bumped it to a 4. If the weather is nice, definitely make your way to Toast. They have limited indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating. You order at the bar and sit at one of their many outdoor tables. There's some seating nestled in gardens with blooming lilies, mint, rosemary, and much more than I can identify. The food was all delicious but I definitely think you get the most bang for your buck with their bowls. I'm a person that can put it away, so I was surprised when I needed a box. If I had gotten the tres leches French toast, however, I would've still been hungry but my tastebuds would've been happy campers. read more

Delicious Food! The Strawberry Pop Tart is a dream for anyone with a sweet tooth. The Verde Chicken Grits was absolutely delicious. Super friendly and helpful staff and great atmosphere! We recently decided on Toast for brunch with some friends. My husband and I lucked out with parking and were able to park in the Toast lot. It is pretty small so our friends ended up parking on the street/ in a different lot next door. This is one of those places where you order at the front, grab a seat and then your food is brought out to you. The line to order was pretty short, so we grabbed a table outside and sent some members of our party to order. The food was delicious as you can probably tell from the photos! The portions are a good size and we all had to get to-go boxes. The only surprise was the shrimp cocktail which we were not expecting to come on a Twinkie (we clearly didn't read the description well enough). A few cons: since you order yourself, you don't really have an assigned server which is sort of a pain when you need something. We kept having to get up during our meal and go to the front to get extra napkins, water, etc. which sometimes took a while because the front was busy. It would be nice to at least get a big pitcher of water for the tables! The other downside was the FLIES once our food hit the table. They should really invest in some sort of fly trap around the tables because it was difficult to enjoy our meals with 20+ flies landing all over the table/food. There's a small indoor seating area which we will definitely try to eat in next time. The food was really great and fresh which totally saved this review. But aside from that, we overall had a pretty okay experience. I'd love to give this place another try sometime in the future! read more

Quiche Me: bacon, egg, onion, and Gruyere egg in flakey pastry with baby kale salad and carrot miso dressing. It was yummilicious. I love the texture of the flakey pastry, so light and airy. The egg, onion, and bacon, common ingredients, but they did a great job combining them and seasoned them. The salad was delicious and I love the dressing. We ordered the Taco Pig (an open-face country white toast, topped with carnitas, pickled peppers and onions, creme fresh, corn salsa, and guacamole) and the French Toast Bread Pudding (which comes with maple syrup and whipped Nutella cream) - the Taco Pig was just okay; we weren't fans of the carnitas, which had an off taste to them. The French Toast Bread Pudding, on the other hand, was SO YUMMY! Thick bread pudding that was so decadent, flavorful, soft, and satisfying each and every sweet tooth that one may have, this was just a delicious sweet dish to have, breakfast, lunch, or dinner! I'd love to try out their other items, such as their award-winning vegetarian 3-bean chili, the Strawberry Puff Tart, and their Tres Leches. The hubs and I came here for an early lunch, and we ended up sitting at the bar, which is highly recommended! Love Toast! The actual toast is amazing which is a good start, but my favorite thing has to be the Park Place bowl! Delicious shredded chicken, Lupo sauce (a 757 staple), cheese, soft egg and chili. With two slices of that iconic toast It's about $12 and enough for two meals. There's a variety of drinks, too! I tried the slushee last night which was a frozen rose with vodka and lemonade. Tart without making my face pucker. Great place for date night, dinner with friends, a treat yo'self meal or a fail safe backup plan. Toast has a lush outdoor seating area in the summer and it does get hot, so be warned! But in the evenings, it's a good place to enjoy a summer night! Sunday morning breakfast with Mom and it was awesome. We lucked out as far as our arrival time, with no wait at all. It looks like they can get a little backed up, especially if you don't want to sit in their outside dining area / garden. And yes, it's quite an industrial neighborhood but you need to overlook that. Rather a hipster / millennial vibe going here as well. They make their own bread. Do not skip out on that. I chose the Eggy Breakfast, which is two poached eggs with smoked cheddar and bacon on top of their own bread and a smear of creme fresh, their version of cream cheese. It came with a small kale salad that was delightful. Great filling breakfast and very yummy. Mom chose the open faced smoked salmon. A huge portion of salmon with their "everything spice" that's basically sesame seeds and poppy seeds and is delicious, but check your teeth afterwards. I ordered pb&j toast and Carnitas bowl. In addition, I ordered meatballs for my dog to eat. They gave me two meatballs for him, which was a great little meal for him. They take orders inside and then bring to the food out to the customers. All of the workers made sure to ensure that the guests were having a positive experience. Sheshhh! Where do I begin? Get here early. It is a very small quaint place so expect a wait if not! I started off ordering a sangria, I since have forgot what kind. In all honestly how could you go wrong though? LOL My waiter there offered me a sample of some kind of slushy they had, and again I forgot this too- However he did mention they rotate flavors daily, It was alcohol infused and after one small sample i was tipsy. Jackpot!! I ordered the taco pig toast, a side of shrimp and vanilla grits. I'm not really sure what I was thinking, but it was way too much food. The taco pig toast was topped with pork, and lots of fresh little veggies. It was so delightful. The shrimp is served only one way, and it is some sort of coconut batter. Very bland but the shrimp itself was yummy. The vanilla grits also were not all that great, After I added all of my own seasonings to it they were fine though. Just had lunch with my nieces, brother and sister! Service is friendly, atmosphere casual and it's nice that you have the option to sit outside in the wildflower garden under the canopy for shade! We had 5 in our group, so we sat outside in the far back patio away from the crowd. You order from a walk up outside and just take your table top number. So when your order is ready, they bring it out to your table. The food was excellent and the servings generous! I ordered the avocado toast and absolutely loved it! Very flavorful! My sister ordered the Hash and beans bowl and loved it as well. My older niece enjoyed the Shrimp & Grits bowl while the younger niece and her Dad ordered the BEC sandwich with home fries. Of course, we couldn't have left without having dessert! So we ordered the peach & raspberry tart with vanilla ice cream and the Sundae on French Toast with Vanilla ice cream!
