Food is good but the star is the bread pudding. The bread pudding will ruin you for all future bread pudding to come. They have rotating favors every week. In terms of entrees my favorite is the pulled duck BBQ. Their menu is rotating but this is one of the dishes that stays Drinks were always good and refreshing Service was good. We dined recently on a Tuesday evening which happened to also be Burger Night. Although we didn't opt for a burger on this occasion, I have had one in the past here and they are great. I enjoyed the Fried Chicken sandwich which also comes with boardwalk fries which are sinfully good. The chicken sandwich is a favorite with just the right amount of pickles, Surry ham, and arugula. The aioli is a nice and tasty addition to the sandwich. The Lobster Roll was also ordered at our table. It was enjoyed by the guest although it seemed like quite a small meal presentation especially for the price of $28.50. It was served on a small plate and just didn't look like a $30 dinner. We also ordered the Halloumi Fries which were underwhelming in size and taste. We love Halloumi so this was a bit of a disappointment. Our server was fantastic. She knew the specials and the happy hour deals etc for the night which I believe for us was 20% off of our glass of wine. She was friendly and prompt with everything. Fantastic place with very delicious food. I had the fanciest deviled eggs I've ever had here and I also had super tasty peanut noodles with swordfish (one of the day's specials) while my husband had very delicious beef short rib with gnocchi. To top it off we shared a pumpkin creme brûlée for desert. We had an amazing server who was really friendly and knew the menu by heart. She memorized all the day's specials alongside their prices and listed them off to us without any mistakes and even discussed in length what these food items were when we had questions. The prices are a little steep but the place is upscale and food is a bit on the fancier side. They serve authentic flavors and fantastic service and I think it's absolutely worth it. The space inside is small with a bar and has intimate lighting. Perfect for a cozy date with someone. There is also some outdoor seating as well. Truly a gem! Love this place so much! A good dinner date spot! Everything on the menu is delicious. You truly can't go wrong. Every time I stop by, I make sure to try something new. Stopped by for dinner while in Norfolk. We were disappointed to not see crab cakes on the menu when many reviews had mentioned it. However it was the daily special so we were not disappointed. Visited on Sunday at noon-30 and it was plenty space. Love the aesthetic and lighting, gave an intimate but friendly feel. Our waitress was kind and gave great energy and recommendations of their too dishes. Ordered two espresso martinis and they were delicious. We came here for a special occasion, and it was a great place to celebrate. Inside the restaurant, there isn't that much space, so I recommend making a reservation. There is outdoor seating here too. I recommend the creole etouffee over the bison meatloaf because the scallops were perfectly cooked but the bison was super dry and the sauce was very salty , but the bison meatloaf had good veggies if you're feeling the fall/harvest food. They have a separate dessert menu, which I highly recommend looking at after the main course. The only down side is the street parking. Any restaurants on colley avenue requires street parking, but I recommend getting the first spot you see and then walk. read more

For my friend's birthday dinner, we decided on Coach House Bar & Grill since it was a restaurant she's been wanting to try for a while. Once we arrived, we noticed that the parking lot was fairly small but thankfully we were able to find parking on the street on the next block up. We arrived around 7:30p on a Saturday and were able to be seated right away. The host was very friendly and directed us to a high top table in the bar area. Unfortunately, those tables weren't the most comfortable so they happily escorted us to a nearby booth. Our server, Marie, was wonderful and helped us choose some really good drinks. For starters, we decided on the Warm Gulf Shrimp Scampi Dip which was very delicious. The only downside was the size, it was more of a single serving than a shareable item. As we looked over the menu to decide what to eat for dinner, it took us quite a while. Unfortunately, nothing really stood out as appealing but my friend decided on the Sesame Chicken Skewers (a "safe choice" in her words lol) while I chose the Puppy Drum which was pan fried puppy drum fish that was served with cheese grits & grilled asparagus on a crawfish creole cream sauce. The food came out pretty quickly and my friend enjoyed her skewers but opted not to eat the noodles. My meal was flavorless with the exception of the cream sauce. Once I was able to add salt, pepper and hot sauce, it gave it some flavor. The grits were alright but I would have preferred mashed potatoes but the fish was fried very well and that cream sauce was absolutely delicious. Overall, it was a fun experience trying a new restaurant. My friend was able to choose a complimentary dessert for her birthday so she decided on the Pineapple Upside Down Bread Pudding. It was a tad bit sweet but tasted pretty good. Our server was amazing and I enjoyed the relaxed ambiance but I'm sure it will be a while before I return. read more

I love a place that knows its menu. I really dislike going somewhere and the waiter or waitress has no idea what they offer or what they would recommend. Our waiter really helped me make my decision, very creamy dish with grits was my favorite. My husband had their burrito. My friend from out of town passed through last weekend, so we met up for dinner at Coach House Bar and Grill (CHBG) upon her request. She had visited CHBG on a previous trip here and loved it. She had her heart set on some of the menu items that she had tried previously, so that is exactly what we did! - Parking - It's a tiny lot, but bonus points for even having a private lot, especially on that street! We were lucky to each score a spot because we opted to meet up at 4:30 pm right when they opened so we had no problems. - Vibe - I love the natural and earthy tones, but at 4:30 pm, it was very dark inside, so we opted to eat outside in their covered patio. Super pleasant at that time of day and as the sun was going down soon. - Noms - Edamame hummus - a nice change from the chickpea hummus. More chunky than chick pea. It's served on a large edible wonton wrapper bowl with a variety of vegetable sticks like carrot, cukes, celery and mini sweet peppers. I liked eating the dip with broken off chunks of the bowl the best. Warm Gulf shrimp scampi dip - creamy and cheesy. Served with pita like cracker strips. I would have liked more shrimps, but still good to the last dip! Scallops - this was a confusing dish for me. The different components individually were very tasty, but the combining as one was I don't know, I guess, just confusing for lack of a better word. The scallops were cooked well. I loved the blue hush puppies. They were lighter and fluffier than the hush puppies I am used to and I loved the blueberry addition to them. The corn was good on its own. Sesame chicken skewers - this dish is what the soba noodles come with. We ordered extra noodles for my friend since she was craving these noodles specifically LOL. Not sure if it was the prior overhyping from my friend, but I thought it was just ok for me. The noodles seemed to have been overcooked, but still good. Chicken was great, just wish there was more of them haha. Sharing all 4 dishes was perfect for our insatiable palettes. I love family style way of eating, so we can get to try a little of a lot of items. We could have probably done with one less plate, but #YOLO. Overall, a great eatery in that section of Norfolk! If you want to treat yourself (and your company) a frozen treat, Lolly's opened up their third location just next door or if you want to continue on the convo with your company, Elation Brewing is right across the street! I don't know why but it took 5 years for us to try this place even though my family and I live 3 minutes away from this place. 5 years wasted!! Drinks: I ordered Midnight Cowboy to start the night, and it had an amazing aroma and was not too strong. At the end of the meal, my husband ordered Tiramisu martini. I'm not usually a fan of sweet cocktail, but this one was not too sweet and was a nice way to end the meal. Snack: As a started I ordered Oyster Rockefeller - no complaints! The oysters were nice size, and the other ingredients did not overwhelm the oysters. For my main dish, I ordered Dry Pack Scallops, which came out PERFECTLY cooked. If you're foodie (or know about cooking), you understand how difficult it is to cook scallops perfectly. The sauce on the side had deep flavor, but it was not masking scallops. The chef came out to check on how the first scallops of the season was, so I complimented the chef for the perfection right then! My husband ordered Baby Back Ribs, and they were super tender and fell off the bones. Coach House had an amazing atmosphere, beautiful patio seating, friendly staff, and delicious food...at pretty expensive prices. The charcuterie board was beautifully made with a large variety of options to eat, many of them housemade. My husband really enjoyed the bison meatloaf. We went on a Thursday, so it was prime rib night! I love prime rib, so I had to get it. It was good, but I've definitely had better - especially at that price. A sharper steak knife would have done the meat justice as well. It was a great cut of meat, but the difficulty cutting it made it seem tougher than it was. The portions were big, and I had enough for leftovers. Curiously, the au jus coagulated in the fridge overnight. I've never seen that happen before, but everything tasted great the next day too. It un-congealed in the microwave. I definitely think we'll be back again in the future, but we probably won't be regulars. read more

Double date dinner on a dreary Aug Fri night. Eclectic, enticing menu but you'll need to BYOH (bring your own headlamp) to read it..Lol, it's dark in there. Fabulous apps (snacks, small plates), ok drinks, and very good entrees (big plates). Long wait times for everything though appeared to have decent FOH staffing for 75-80% dining room capacity. Likely ironing out post-COVID reopen logistics and retraining. Our server was friendly and provided plenty of food/drink menu tips... DRINKS: Ladies' spicy mules ($9) were pretty good, they did 2nd round. Bee Sting ($11) = not good...highly recommend Nouvelle's Bee Sting, made by co-owner Luke. Petit S Red blend ($9) was decent for price. APPS: Warm gulf shrimp scampi dip ($9, 5/5) was INSANELY GOOD! Warm, creamy, flavorful, and well balanced between seafood and base, not to mention perfectly paired with soft, warm baguette slices. Resistance is futile. Likewise, the Charcuterie Board ($20, 5/5) also impressed with the same heavenly bread coupled with smoke salmon mousse, house roasted peanuts, blueberries, dates, and various meats and cheeses. ENTREES: Faroe Island Salmon ($27, 4.5/5) was brilliant. Light, juicy, perfectly seared fish over a bed of orzo, complimented by Brussel sprouts; I prefer sprouts charred or balsamic reduced BUT these were still fine. Fried Chicken w Surry Ham ($13, 4/5) was delicious. What lacked in presentation was made up by fresh ingredients and crispy chicken, not to mention cheddar, pickles, and arugula enHAMcements. Fries were a bit soggy/underdone. Bison meatloaf ($23, 4.5/5) was a healthy portion, enough to feed an ox - errr, sorry! But seriously, I'm not into meatloaf but the presentation coupled with texture and flavor were surprisingly very good. We didn't save room for dessert so we'll have to try on the next visit. Sure to please just about everyone. The menu had a lovely selection of meat options, and I chose the steak. Full of flavor, cooked to perfection, and absolutely melted in my mouth. First time here. The hostess and wait staff are all very friendly and inviting. The decor is city chic. The brunch menu has traditional with a Norfolk flair unique items. What a fantastic addition to the NOCO dining scene! The diversity of the menu is what brings us back, along, of course, with the quality of the food. Oh, and the bar. I had been craving a Painkiller all day. Walked in. Asked if they could make one and got one of the best I've had. My husband is a chili cook-off champion, and he said their short rib chili rivaled his. Want a burger? They have great ones. A lobster roll? Yep. Etoufee? Sure thing. Not too hungry? Coach House is an amazing place to grab a meal. We were able to make a reservation for 10 and they were very accommodating when a few didn't show. The charcuterie was put together really well on a Virginia-shaped cutting board. The meats were great and paired nicely with the cheeses, grain mustard, peanuts, and raisins. I ordered the bison meatloaf and it was right there with meatloaf in taste and quality that I've had in the past in Wyoming. The root vegetables were perfectly seasoned and cooked. My only complaint would have been there was way too much crispy onions on top. For dessert I got the cherry tart and white chocolate bread pudding and it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. When one door closes another one opens. This is certainly the case for Coach House, which has made its home in the spot previously belonging to Chow. My aunt and I recently had the chance to dine here and had an excellent experience. The atmosphere of Coach House is classy without being pretentious; furthermore, their staff is very friendly, helpful, and efficient. Our hostess Ryan, and waiter Gabriel, were great and made sure we were taken care of throughout our meal. I really appreciated this, because personally, I feel that food just tastes better when you're receiving great service. Speaking of food, their fried chicken sandwich with Surry ham was fabulous and arguably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had to date. I was in Norfolk visiting my daughter in her return from deployment and stopped here the night I got in. The staff was very friendly. My daughter had the Tarte Flambée and I had the Igloo burger.
