The Crab Dip was very greasy and sat heavy in the stomach. The main dish with the shrimp platter made up for the dip, but there were only 6 shrimps on the plate, which in my opinion, was not enough for what the price is worth. The corn was undercooked and the only best thing from this plate is the tomato salad. They have their own parking lot, and I recommend a reservation on busy dinner nights.

My family came here while on a group vacation. We were craving seafood and looked for a good spot in the area where we were staying. They were pretty packed and there was not much seating in the main dining area so we had to sit in their front room, near the entrance. It wasn't too bad but service was affected a bit. The serving sizes are huge. The food was a bit bland but it was definitely very filling. Their hush puppies were not the best but they could pass. They were too big and hard for my kiddo. She did not like them with her fried shrimp. We had fried fish and shrimp po'boys. The Mac & cheese side was so tasteless. Hubby had a chicken sandwich and that thing was completely dry. There was no sauce on it at all. It was just dry, grilled or baked chicken breast on thick dry bread. Our biggest gripe was with the service and time it took to get everything, overall.

We have family visiting from out of town and they were craving seafood so we decided to come to A W Shucks Bar because it's been on my bookmarked list :) FOOD: Caesar salad was good but not spectacular. The blackened rockfish was great and so were their garlic green beans. The bread and butter were okay, I won't order it again. SERVICE: Friendly service! So nice and courteous. LOCATION: It's a huge space that I could totally miss if I wasn't looking for it. Located in Ghent, right off of Colonial. Would I come back? Heck yeah! Looks like they have a bunch of random specials during the week that I want to try.

Stopped in for a drink at the bar. Casual vibe with a long bar and lots of tables. They have a good raw bar selection but we didn't try anything. The food also looked good. We got a couple cocktails and they were done well. Service was friendly and fast. Next time I'm in town will have to try their food!

It's high time I provide another Shucks review. They've treated me so well over the years and I've come to know and love many of their staff. I want to thank them for everything they've done for me. Probably the kindest gesture they provided me was after my dad passed away in July 2020. He was suffering from diabetes - we caught it fairly late and his entire body was slowly shutting down. After he had heart bypass surgery, things took a dark turn and he was gone 7 days later. Obviously, I was devastated. At the same time, it was tough to process everything because my mom was grieving, too (she unexpectedly lost her younger brother 2 months earlier). I put up a front by staying strong for the both of us, but it was extremely difficult. Anyways, I didn't do much for about 2 months, but finally made myself get out of the house. I ended up at Shucks, where I was greeted with hugs and well wishes from the staff. I had some meaningful discussions with them, too, and, wouldn't you know it, they wouldn't let me pay for dinner. They didn't have to do that, especially with the shutdown affecting all businesses. I felt them offering their condolences was beautiful enough. They went out of their way to make me feel normal again because they treated me as part of their family, which I cherish. Thank you, Shucks, for everything. You are the best. JV

If I wrote this review at the beginning of the meal, it would've been 5 stars; however, after we got our food, our waiter disappeared. Long story short...we waited at a cleared table for 45min before we were able to pay and leave. Long story long... It wasn't that busy, so we were seated right away. I was initially impressed with our waiter as he took our order quickly and had it memorized without writing it down. The cocktails were great, and the food was delicious. Other staff members brought out all of our food and drinks, but our server came to check on us once after we had our food. After that he disappeared. When we had finished, yet another staff member cleared our table. We were sitting at an empty table for a bit, and finally, our server came by and said he'd bring the check...and then we waited another 25min to get the check. After giving him our card, he went to take other tables' orders. We were waiting about 45min total at an empty table - water glasses and everything cleared- before we had completed payment and were able to leave. The menu said that 18% gratuity was automatically added to the check for parties of 5 or more. Our check had 20% gratuity added, which would have been generous for the poor service received. At that point, we'd been waiting for so long we just paid without saying anything so we could leave. At the beginning of the meal, I was commenting how I wanted to come back with more family and this would be my regular spot for crab legs. After the experience, I probably won't come back again.

Delish!! Let's see my husbae and I have visited this restaurant about three maybe four times now. Each time, we love it more and more! I love the vibe inside and I love the set up as well. We have dined in all the seating options... at the bar, at a table top and even in the outside like seating area. Each time our server has been on point and the food, simply irresistible. My husbae is in love with their catfish. It is plentiful and always a hit with him. I believe it's blackened. I love the salmon. I've had dessert here too, on my first visit earlier this year. I cannot recall what I had but check out my pics from Feb. 2021 and you should see it... it was devine! The cocktails are a real treat too. Parking has never been an issue for us. But I do suggest you call ahead of time to check to see if there is a wait to be seated. We have tried this each time and have been successful at being seated upon arrival. However, we have seen others turned away after being told a long wait time. If you have not tried this spot... GO! Have fun and enjoy life :)

Bit expensive. Husbands po boy had like 5 popcorn shrimp and was $16. Service made me feel rushed. And ambiance was old, felt outdated. Oyster Romano is what saved the score

Very cute and reasonably priced place for seafood. We showed up with no reservations and were lucky enough (considering Vday weekend) to only have to wait 30 mins for a table. We ordered glasses of wine and the mussels to start. They were very good and loved the sauce they were in. We shared a large order of the steamed seafood combo. It was great to get such a large variety: oysters, crab legs, clams, potatoes, corn, sausage, and shrimp. All was delish. Our oysters weren't cracked open so the server was perceptive enough to notice and immediately took them back to have them opened. They were plump and very good. Their hushpuppies were very good as well. Ended with a slice of their delicious strawberry cake cheesecake combo. I think it was a special for valentine's. I would order this again..and again. It was so rich and good. Overall, highly recommend and know this will be a required stop on my visits to Norfolk.

Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant portion itself was quite wanting, slow and unattended. To my surprise they had a board outside the door featuring weekly details. I did further research online and saw HH! I love love to try anyone's happy hour (HH) especially if food and drinks are offered. I'm thrilled to let you know this place has food and spirits, including: beer, wine and liquor! Yessss!! My drinks including my husbae crown and sweet tea were on point. He wanted Sprite but it was unavailable. Nevertheless we will return soon! Parking wasn't an issue as we found free street parking steps from the restaurant. But Parking garages are nearby as well. Overall 10/10 Have fun and enjoy life :)

My wife and I took advantage of Norfolk's Restaurant Week to enjoy a romantic evening, coupled with great service from a very attentive waiter. $45 each for a 3-course meal in a intimate cozy dark setting with great jazz music in the background. 1st course, she had the marvelous She Crab Bisque, especially the hint of sherry. Perfect. I enjoyed the four Fried Oysters, Fried flawlessly without the bivalves becoming rubbery. 2nd course, my wife enjoyed the Peri-Peri Chicken Penne. The breast of chicken was moist throughout, not dry. The penne pasta with the Romesco Cream Sauce was very creamy and delicious says my better half. I tried the Fried Catfish. A bed of creamy Grits; then some Braised Collards stewed perfectly with a surprise - pieces of Ham Hock meat imbedded - on top of the Grits; then on the very top a perfectly fried huge piece of Catfish filet with Key Lime Remoulade sauce on the side. A pretty presentation. If you like Catfish, this is a wonderful entrée. It still amazes me how the food I grew up on as a son of the South - except for the remoulade - is now haute cuisine. Get the mashed potatoes! Send a thanks when you're full.

The service is always great and the hosts/servers are always friendly. Our go to is the meatloaf. when you're looking for a good ol' comfort food - that's the best. They also have amazing desserts that are worth a try. We found this restaurant good for families (including our toddler)! Food was toddler approved!

I wanted to love this restaurant...really I did. I was excited to go there. The environment is…read morequirky and the chef is a James Beard semi-finalist (2016). Unfortunately...it was not good. I'm giving a star for the wine and a star for the service. The food was terrible. The skirt steak was actually an old sirloin. Not aged...expired. When we cut into it, it tasted like it had been in the fridge too long. To add insult to injury, it was still blue inside the middle. I hate to say this but the meat tasted like an old spot buy... absolutely awful. We sent it back. The other meal was rock fish...dried out and unseasoned. Plus it was super small...about 1 inch wide by two inches long. I love rock fish and this was the worst I have ever had. I didn't eat much but we felt bad about sending two dishes back given nobody else was in the restaurant. Honestly, I should have. The overly smoked mushy vegetables were absolutely disgusting. Even after washing my hands several times I could still smell the smoke on my hands, even though I never touched it. It seemed like the chef dropped an entire liquid smoke bottle into the vegetables which tasted like they were canned from 2022. Honestly, I should have known better. Nobody was in the restaurant when the Hilton down the street and other restaurants nearby were packed. When we sat down the table was sticky. We sent the dead sirloin back and still spent over 125 dollars and left hungry. Sorry for the awful review...but this was a terrible experience.

It does not get better than Syd's FishPig Cafe. I cannot visit Norfolk, without making sure I can…read moresqueeze in a meal here! The dining room is cozy, inviting, and entertaining. Between the lively bar, the open kitchen, and the art covering every surface, there is always something to look at and strike up conversation. There's no such thing as a boring meal at Syd's. To start, I love to sample the rotating whiskey barrel. There's always some version of whiskey infused with different flavors that's ready to try. Paired with Syd's crusty bread and salt & pepper butter.... perfect comfort. My favorite dish is the flounder, and I end up licking the plate every time. It is served with a creamy crawfish sauce with out of this world flavors. As much as I want to know how Syd pulls off flavors that are so unique and full of depth, I'm happy knowing that I can always come here for an incredible culinary experience. The menu changes seasonally, depending on the local ingredients. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the pork-o-rama is always a win! I've enjoyed the salads, soups, ettouffe, gumbo, and steaks. Every dish is incredible. Make sure to grab a bottle of Delish Sauce and Not-Hot Sauce on your way out. Syd makes them all himself, including smoking the tomatoes which adds that wonderful je ne sais quoi. I'm a huge fan. I will follow Chef Syd anywhere!
