6/1/26- Hubby and I wanted to try somewhere new and our original destination was unexpectedly closed. Yelp suggested Karla's as being about 10 min away so we headed over. Parking can be rough, there are a few spots behind their building and we were lucky to get one as someone was leaving. If you're less lucky you can look for street parking and walk over. We arrived about 11:50 AM and weren't sure if we should seat ourselves. The place was busy and the family that arrived after us had a short wait. The dining area has a cozy, local beach vibe with fresh colors and refreshingly diverse mix of diners. We asked the bartender about seating and she responded "he's coming now to seat u." A friendly elderly gentleman headed our way and slowly showed us to our table. The waitress came a few minutes later and was friendly despite how busy she clearly was. Drinks were ordered and a few minutes later she took our food order. The food was a bit slow coming out but I tend to expect that on Sundays at busy local spots. My husband got the pancake breakfast and I ordered a 2 egg breakfast. The pancakes were delicious and so was the sourdough toast that came with my meal. I subbed handcut fries for the breakfast potatoes and while the fries tasted good... they were room temp as were my husband potatoes which were also under seasoned. I was hoping that the longer wait for food would mean it was going to come out hot. (But no luck) Overall, I'd come back. Side note: tipped the waitress a $20 on a $40 tab because my husband said "no change needed" before I could tell him I only had 3 $20 dollar bills. Instead of chasing her down I decided maybe it would earn me a kindness karma point somewhere along the line, lol. read more

I ordered the egg white veggie omelette with mushrooms, onions, spinach, tomato, and peppers, and it was exactly what I wanted: light, fluffy, and packed with fresh veggies. It felt wholesome but still satisfying, especially paired with a warm, buttery biscuit that tasted homemade. Simple, classic, and done really well. My friends went in two different directions and both were raving about their choices. The Mediterranean omelette with fresh spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, olives, and feta cheese was loaded with flavor and perfectly balanced. The real showstopper at the table though was the chicken & waffle beach house bowl. The fried boneless chicken thigh was crispy and juicy, layered with eggs, applewood bacon, and drizzled with honey maple sauce. It was indulgent in the best way and definitely something I'll be ordering next time. My whole experience felt cozy, welcoming, and very "diner vibe" in the best sense. Rarely do I give 5 stars. More rare is when the service exceptionally already high quality food. THIS IS THAT TIME! Lori was a PHENOMENAL server, the epitome of why you choose local places. Attentive, informative, and personable. Her recommendations were spot on and her comments during table check-ins kept our party of 5 in stitches. All of our orders were correct and ready in a short period of time. Both omelette were cooked to perfection. Lori even anticipated I'd ask for hot sauce and brought house made honey habenero -- delicious. The pancakes were heavenly, in flavor and texture. We stopped in at Karla's Beach House right after flying into town and it was exactly the vibe we were hoping for -- laid-back, beachy, and cheerful. The moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxed, perfect for a brunch stop after a travel day being that it was minutes away from the airport. Exactly what we needed after 3.5 hours on the road and anxious for beach vibes on a cold April day and hungry for brunch on a budget! It checked all the boxes. Shrimp & grits heat was made to order with hot sauce bar to change it up! Service was attentive and friendly. I forgot to pack earrings and was feeling naked- shopping for those was even checked off my to-do list allowing more time to enjoy the surf at our hotel! Yesterday we ate at Karla's beach house and the experience was nothing short of amazing. The establishment was clean and had that laid back, homey vibe. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Our waitress Laura was our favorite! She gave great recommendations and brought so much joy to our day. We had a chance to meet Karla herself and she was such a delight! She truly sets the tone for this wonderful establishment. We also were sat by this wonderful older gentleman who was such a light a to talk to. When we were getting ready to leave, the waitress that wasn't even waiting on us was so kind and wished us a great rest of the day. They were severely understaffed and service was so slow. Unsure why they chose Saturday brunch time for the cooks to train the new hires in the back. We should've taken the 30 to 40 minute wait for a table as our sign to leave because it was another 25minutes to be acknowledged and some water before the waiter rushed off even though we were ready to order. another 20minutes for our order and 40minutes for food. It's a shame because the food was rather good but not worth a 2+ hour ordeal. read more

There are chairs in front and more tables/seating in the back parking lot. Cute casual decor with coastal items on the back wall: net, shells, turtle mosaic tile, etc etc. "Warning mermaid sign hanging on wall outside door to kitchen.Was immediately seated. Got a big glass of water. There are plenty items on the menu: salads, sandwiches, Benedict's etc, I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. I asked the waitress if it's good, didn't quite get convincing vote with her reply that she's not into grits! Hmmmm! The shrimp and grits was a 2... the shrimp to grits proportion was way off. 4 sautéed shrimps (although cooked to perfection, not rubbery) and the rest was just broth that wasn't even vibrant even when I ordered spicy. The diced bell peppers were slightly overcooked. All I tasted was sautéed shrimp and water added. No depth in taste. Not par to the $18 that they charged. read more

There is a little bar tucked into the corner of the spot and they are pretty good with making your breakfast boozy. The service is as friendly as can be. A great little local diner. We've dined here three times now and are always seated quickly, despite the restaurant being packed (I call it luck!). A very nice older gentleman (I'm assuming the owner) takes patrons to their tables and chats with them. The food is fresh, and the pancakes always hit the spot! This quaint beach house restaurant is quite adorable. The older ladies greeting and waitressing were sweet and as welcoming as can be. The menu was of moderate size and had some interesting non traditional brunch items. I had very high expectations given the online rating. BUT, those expectations were not met! In fact, they went downhill quickly. The food had absolutely no seasoning within it....all of the little bit of seasoning was on top. And it was basic at best...a dash of salt and a splash of pepper. My dining companion had the shrimp and grits that came with 4 shrimp and I had the salmon and eggs (without the eggs) with grits and home fries with peppers, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms added. The home fries...I made up the dish and ask them to make it...it wasn't in the menu. It was the very best part of my meal in addition to the Bloody Mary. To sum it up, the food was very bland....not worth it. But the Bloody Mary was certainly above average! read more

I'm local so been to Karla's a few times since they opened. When they launched, their service was incredibly slow, and I thought oh give it time to iron the kinks out, it'll get better over time. But it's been in operation for years now, and today they took an hour to make two omelets, which made me late to my plans I was going to. I wish this spot was a fun easy beach joint I could walk over to enjoy, but it's run out of strikes for me. I don't recommend this place unless you got a lot of time on your hands and aren't dying of hunger. read more

Terrific food, especially the pancakes! In general I will usually choose a waffle over a pancake but there is something about the pancakes at Karla's--so tasty! Stopped by this lovely restaurant this weekend. I was a little worried about seating time because this place can get busy really quickly. Luckily I got here at a good time, and was seated almost immediately. The service was quick and friendly. I honestly would come back for that alone. Every seat on the inside was full of people enjoying their meals. There were table outside too, for summer days or breakfast with your dogs. I ordered the Philly bowl and my husband ordered the chicken and waffles. Let's just say that after our first bites we were hooked. The food was absolutely delicious. We visited Karla's around noon on a Thursday. Service was incredibly friendly and overall pretty attentive. They were very busy, but the staff worked as a team to make sure everyone was covered. We did wait around 45 minutes, possibly slightly longer, for our food. Once it arrived everything was delicious and tasted fresh. I ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp wrap and it was truly stuffed with large succulent shrimp. The shrimp were not breaded as one might expect (or as is traditional with "bang bang shrimp") but I was ok with that. My mom got a burger and I tried a bite. It was well seasoned and pretty tasty! We ordered the mini corn dogs for my 2 year old, which came with fries (I think there was also a choice of fruit) and it was a great serving size for a $5 kids meal. The servers were all so sweet to him and made sure his lemonade was well stocked. Overall, I'd maybe not return during prime lunch hours with a toddler. But if you're down for a slower paced meal or looking to catch up with a friend and chat a while during your wait, this would be a good spot! There's only a small parking lot behind the restaurant but we did find a street spot right across the way. Note you cannot park in the grassy lot across the street. read more

I love supporting local establishments, so please don't misunderstand the average A-OK review on Karla's. After just one visit I would not return. I have been in the building before under prior ownership when it was Rizzo's. It's a very cool art deco type of structure in Oceanview. Parking is extremely challenging. Today I saw locals on foot, that's cool to see that support in the neighborhood. I was immediately greeted and seated. The dining room consist of 12 tops and a bar. It was a very slow weekday with only a few occupied. The beachy vibe is warm and welcoming. The eating area was spic and span. My very friendly waitress had my coffee and water immediately upon request. A quick review of the menu and recommendation of the Beach Benedict with hash browns sounded great! The coffee meh. A coffee refill occurred before my food hit the table in approximately 15 minutes. The visual was striking on the frozen hash browns that looked liked McDonald's. The plating fell flat! The Benedict was tiny, but constructed fine. I dug in and found the overall meal underwhelming. The Hollandaise was thin and not in house. The bacon was hard, however the spinach, tomatoes and muffin all fresh. The taste was average and edible. I wish Karla's well and glad they enjoy a very strong local flowing. 2.5 rounding up with incredible and timely service. read more

This is the second time I've came the first time I did not order any food but it looked amazing... this is a super popular spot as it was people outside the door waiting for a table . They can combine tables to make seating a bit more accommodating, which is great, but yeah, it was busy we waited about 15 minutes to to be seated and it was timely. It was Very prompt.and the food was tasty. This time I had the surfer bowl. It was delicious came here for my friend's birthday. However, Our server was not the friendliest to be fair he was super busy, but he came across a little rude when the check came It was all on one check and I explained to him it needed to be separate. He basically made it sound like I needed to get over and that wasn't very nice. Told me it was gonna be a while before he could fix it. It was very busy and it was a lot of people there. I watched him handout about four checks to four other tables before he finally corrected and seperated ours. Moving forward I will be back for the food, but if I ever have that server again, I will be requesting a different server. read more
