Tobay beach I has a Massapequa address in middle of Jones beach island, . It's listed as a recreational beach. On Sunday September 22 2024 there was a large car show from 11-4pm.Though some car drivers left earlier there was still plenty to see and hear. The live band at the stage, was good and got people dancing. The variety of cars was large. Food trucks, flea marketers selling their wares perfect weather too. Some visitors brought their dogs. I bought stuff . Tip: bring cash, though some took cards or vemo, when the small amount I had ran out. I got socks, a sign, and a sourdough bread. I would have brought the jams but the woman was busy with another couple, just as well. Overall a nice event and free to visitors. 1 point in fact- gps said east , didn't know where to u turn to go west to get in. I did figure out at the end of the road u turned and got in to parking. Here for a Car Show and it was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. Hundreds of great cars, some antique, some customized and some just unique. Decent amount of food trucks/vendors. Best was the Bloody Mary table, they were giving out free samples. Wife and I had two lol no judging. Beach is small but probably gets packed during peak season. Nice playground for the kids. Tobay beach is a great beach to go to. I haven't been there in a decade but it's nice to see it is still in great shape. That is if you're the town of oyster bay. My friend is party of the town so I was able to go with him. Today the beach was super busy. But it's very clean. It's a lot smaller if you haven't gone there before. So just fair warning. read more

I happen to have plenty of time on my hands, so I'll write this review. What's not to love about Tobay, if you are lucky enough to live in the TOB, which we are not. And I have never been. TOH my entire life. So I am either reliant on a lucky friend to take me or go after hours, which is what Lee and I have been enjoying this summer. Pull up late, like 6 pm to enjoy a warm ocean breeze and plenty of beachfront to choose from. I see across the parking lot, on the bay side, the restaurants are open and seem lively. Not for us right now. We have great memories of the years when we brought our kids here and have nothing but positive things to say about Tobay. read more

I love this recent "discovery!!" Even though I grew up on Long Island and spent ZILLIONS of wonderful moments at Jones Beach and Robert Moses State Park, I had never been to this gem until very recently, and can't wait to come back again SOON!! Tobay Beach offers the best of both worlds, the AWESOME ocean and the calmer surf of the bay. If you don't live in the local township (Oyster Bay), you'll pay top $$$ to get in before 6pm during the summer, which is why I took away a star, because philosophically, I think ALL beaches should be open to EVERYONE, but that's just me!! I'm guessing it's better here after hours anyway, when the crowds have died down and parking's not a major hassle. Great spot to bring a dinner to eat outside, overlooking the ocean, or to try out the tempting dining options, including a snack bar on the ocean side, which seems to close pretty early, and the bay side restaurants, which we've yet to try, but offer a great "tropical" feel and are worth (maybe...) double/triple the price for the AWESOME sunsets!! If you're in the area, and it's after 6pm on a beautiful summer or fall (or spring or winter..) evening, you NEED to check this place out...!!! read more

Road trip!!! Any drive crossing thirty minutes is deemed a road trip by me. There we were, cruising round the Island, the sun nice and warm, smiling faces in all the cars you pass on the road, a few jumbo kites in the sky, wind in my hair. Screeeeech! Okay erase that last bit cause no wind can flow through what I have but I'm trying to paint a picture here so relax with me. We passed beautiful spots and a few other beaches but chose Tobay. Full disclosure, Tobay Beach chose us with their free (parking). Other spots we passed offered $10.00 parking but this Caribbean Queen will definitely feel some type of way about paying to play on a US beach. My apologies. I'm not sure if it was free only on that day because I noticed signs directing "card holders drive this way". The venue has the feel of a country club. It's very organized from car park attendants to restaurant staff. The Spray Pen is a water/play-pen area for children. Then there is the nice good size beach for everyone. On this Sunday there were equal numbers of families and couples. I counted two restaurant and bar Salsa Shack and Seafood Shack and one miniature golf course. There is an area just off the beach dedicated to the 9/11 victims wih their names on benches and the wall. They also have a piece of an actual steel beam from the WTC. Not that this is important (or it may be to some) but strange enough on my visit I was the only black person here. I know these guys have seen this type of beauty before (hehehe) but I still got some looks. I can't say what it meant. It wasn't unpleasant or anything I was just looked at, the way one looks at a sore thumb. I'm truly happy I found this place. Summer time! The End. read more

TOBAY is a private beach that's pretty unwelcoming to anyone outside of the Jericho-Syosset-Woodbury-Muttontown-Plainview-Bethpage-Massapequa clique (that is, unless you want to pay $40 a day to hang). For those reviewers and readers expecting an immaculate beach experience with pristine sand and palm trees and stuff, you'll likely be let down. What you WILL get, however, is a far less crowded experience than at Jones or Robert Moses, some nice waterfront restaurant options, and a short walk from the tunnel to the ocean. Growing up in Syosset, trips to TOBAY beach meant always running into people you knew, sitting in big groups, and having great times! For the past few years, most of my visits have been to Long Beach, but after coming back to post-hurricane TOBAY, I was generally impressed with their recent improvements/renovations. On the bay side, you can get your post-beach sit-down eats on at Singleton's Salsa Shack or Singleton's Seafood Shack, play 9 hones of mini golf for $2, or unleash your kids on the playground. The ocean side's got a decent snack bar with plenty of shaded seating, restrooms, and of course the ocean. The only oddity of all their improvements was the relocation of the outdoor showers right next to the parking lot. Even though there's four showers and an additional three foot baths, if you're laying out by the ocean, you've gotta walk under the tunnel to rinse off, then return BACK to the ocean side to change in the bathrooms. They really should either fix up the ocean side bathrooms to include showers, or toss up a few unisex changing rooms next to the showers by the parking lot... just my $0.02 read more

WARNING I have an infection and on antibiotics!!! I have contaminated with bacteria from this beach getting bites from various bugs, inside the water (unknown) horseflies everywhere especially the beach and shower area, mosquitoes.....etc I am suffering from pain and in misery like I have never experienced before in my life :...((((( :( You can see a couple of pictures I posted, that is nothing I have this all over my body head face neck back my butts fingers legs ankles and on my toes!!! Entrance fee $50 what a joke guess I will not be returning here never ever never ever. I am deeply sad when I found this beach I thought this was going to be my beach for the rest the summer...... Beaches are very polarizing experiences to rate. Different people go for a myriad of reasons- from spending time with family, sand quality, to crowded sand estate. I will review this beach with full honesty but also with full explicit disclaimers. Price: This beach is definitely designed for families in the neighborhood- it is free for residents but $50.00 for non residents- since this beach was well recommended by family friends, we decided to drop the money and give the beach a try. Crowd: the beach itself is a very small beach- it is north on the island so you are overlooking the bay and Long Island. The beach is around 600 yards wide- with water grass extending up around 8 feet on the left and right sides. Despite this the beach did not have a lot of people on it to feel suffocating. A huge number of the population is kids tho. I can imagine why this is attractive to kids especially since there are floating booeys that extend out around 100 yards radius and the water doesn't really past 3 feet tall. There is also a water playground right off the parking lot that kids can go to. Water quality- not clean- but this is compared to the hamptons- jones beach and Robert Moses beach. There's a lake feel about this water- mostly because it's a bay. No waves- extremely calm water- there's A light green color to the water. Insects- TOO MUCH! They have the breed of flies that have teeth so they look like flies but when they land on your skin it feels like they BITE you! Beware! Sand quality- VERY NICE- clean and soft. Ice cream was sold out when I was there! On a beach! Blasphemy! Vendors only had 1 worker in it for food. Bathroom- present and very clean! Showers-present and very clean Parking- there is a lot Love it or dump it- Dump it- I would not recommend going to this beach unless you are a local or you have a lot of children. read more

Pros: 1) No cops to harass you for drinking on the beach (no tickets issued for drinking, no solo cups to hide my beer) 2) Clean sand and water 3) Tiki bar for some hard liquor if needed Cons: 1) Way too crowded. This is a major con if you want some peace and quiet on the beach 2) Way too many families and children and not enough young people. You really cannot have it all it seems. Even a light peck on the cheek with my SO made me feel uncomfortable because I don't want kids or their parents berating me 3) Expensive entry fee (20 dollars for TOBAY resident). Verdict: Worth a once or twice visit but it might be better to go to Robert Moses or Long Beach if you're a group of young people read more

The Town of Oyster Bay beach is somewhat limited to local residents from the North to South shore in the township..(vistors may be able to pay to get in) which is somewhat nice.. very little transient traffic... no boom boxes, large groups looming at sunset etc.. .. the beach is too close to the industrial processing plant.... and there is runnoff a few miles down everytime it rains.. thats not my idea of clean water.. so for swimming I prefer to head further east. read more

As Jeff P. pointed out - way less crowded than the neighboring Jones and Robert Moses beaches, yet has all the same sand... You park on one side of the highway and walk through a tunnel to get to the beach proper. Although it may seem like a good idea to walk over barefoot when you get there early, by the time you want to walk back, the sun has cooked that cement to the point of skin blistering hotness. Tobay Beach is nice and I do prefer it over Jones because it is less crowded usually. With that being said, I do like how Jones has the boardwalk, more activities (mini-golf, volleyball, tennis), food places.. But I find Tobay to be more 'quiet' compared to the overwhelming number of obnoxious people who take over Jones. Since I am a ~Town of Oyster Bay Resident~, Tobay being a private beach works great in my favor! (Sorry for all the non-residents, I definitely would not pay $50 for one day) I used to go to the 'left side' of Tobay (the side that is for cars without stickers) HOWEVER there is always a MASSIVE pool of disgusting water that you have to walk through under the tunnel in order to get to the beach. This has been turning me off lately! Please fix this! But I do like how the ocean water is not plagued with seaweed like Lido beach is. read more

After spending a full day at this beach, I had to update my review. The rating is remaining the same. 3 stars. Why? Yes, it's great that you have the option of the bay on one side, and the ocean on the other. But as great as that is, the ocean side is far too loud as the afternoon continues on. I understand kids go to the beach, and they should! But the parents here don't practice being parents and just allow their kids to kick sand all over and yell at the top of their lungs. My relaxing morning at the beach became a headache-filled afternoon. The only reason I won't dip below 3 stars is because the ocean side has an awesome concession stand that sells beer and margaritas, the restrooms are super clean, and it's barely a walk from the parking lot through the sand. The bay side is a bit more quiet but the water is so calm that it's TOO quiet. If only people told their kids to behave once in a while. read more

If you live on Long Island, you know how crowded Jones Beach gets. If you live in Oyster Bay, you know you have another option. TOBAY beach is, in my opinion, just as nice as Jones Beach (though it doesn't have a boardwalk.) and much less crowded. It is for Town of Oyster Bay (T.O.Bay) residents only on weekends suring the summer, and thus there is plenty of space if you move down the shoreline a bit. Minus 1.5 stars for the price. SPLASH PARK- was just here with my Grandkids Ages 3 and 5. It was a very hot day and they had a blast playing and climbing on the jungle gym, slides etc and then playing with and running through the various splash fountains..I'd say the Splash Park really only for toddlers and small kids maybe up to age 8 or so.. Great place for the small kids and even the parents and this Grandpa to cool off a bit and play for maybe 60-90 min max...I did wish though they had more umbellas or covers to get out of the direct sun for a bit once in a while. Best beach by far! Clean sand and water and usually never too crowded (depending on the day). My only complaint would be regarding the concession stand. The food is extremely expensive and the workers are rude. I by accidentally handed the bartender $8 for a $3 drink and instead of giving me my change, she mocked me for handing her too much money. I refuse to ever buy anything from there again and will be bringing my own food and drinks to the beach from now on. TOBay = Town of Oyster Bay (toe-bay) Paradise when you live on Long Island and within the limits of the Town of Oyster Bay. It is so much less crowded than its neighbors -- Jones Beach and Robert Moses, both of which are State Parks. You have to live within the Town or pay a hefty surcharge to "bathe" here. The bizarre necessity of Towns in NYS have blessed those who live in the Town of Oyster Bay with this beach. WARNING: Don't walk on the asphalt in bare feet! The painted white lines will provide you with solace. P.S. It is not located where this Google map says it is. It is indeed on the ocean, not in the middle of some neighborhood! read more

One of the benefirts of living on Long Island are some of the best beaches in the world. TOBAY is right up there. Less crowded than most ocean beaches, open to residents of the town with a $50 purchased season car sticker. Non residents can pay $10 (I think) each occasion. OK snack bars, there are two full-on restaurants inthe parking lot - a seafood shack and a salsa (mexican? spanish? place. I have not eaten at either. The beach is CLEAN, nto a far walk from the parking lot, you do have to walk thru the tunnel under Ocean Parkway. It's beautiful. read more

Need to clarify the price for non-residents of Oyster Bay. Girls in the booth ask for your drivers license to prove where your from, then asked for $40 for non-residents. Not sure if its $20/person or $40/car... Either way its too much and the town is clearly not interested in outsiders. Anyone can avoid the fee by eating at the restaurant located within the confines of the parking lot/beach. Girls told us it was a 2 hour limit, but I can't imagine they would bother kicking you out after 2 hours. We headed a few miles East to Cedar Beach which was $20/car and quite nice. read more

The beach is good for children. They have a spray park area that has lots of play area for kids to climb around in. During 3 day holidays the place can get pack. They also have a kiddie section for the beach area where the water is calm... the bay part. The sand isn't the nicest on this side. But the shallow waters make it easy for toddlers to wall around. Tons of hermit crabs and snails to pick up and explore. If you go through the underpass you can be on the beach side where there are waves to jump over. The restaurant by the spray park can be pricey. Lobster roll is $25. If you are not a resident of the Town of Oyster Bay expect to pay $50 a car. If you bought the season pass for the Town of Oyster Bay there is a separate entrance line. read more

We visited on a September weekday. Since we are not TOB residents, we went on a day when they were not collecting a fee. Website still says they are collecting weekends. The park has a bay side with a spray park with snack bar, playground area on the sand and 2 restaurants operated by Singleton's. I have heard mixed reviews of them both. One of them has a walk up bar where you can order drinks and bring down to sand. The bay side of the park is great if you young kids, water very shallow and no waves. The beach side has a narrow strip of sand which fills up quickly, so come early. Not as clean as I thought it would be, but perhaps cleaner during peak season. No lifeguards on duty. Food stands were closed, only facilities open were restaurants. Looking forward to visiting next time and grabbing some drinks from bar and watching sunset. Forgot to mention, we saw what I believe to be a finback whale about 200 yards off shore swimming west to east. Kept breaking water surface when it came up for air. Pretty cool. read more

Beach is strictly for town residents otherwise there's a hefty fee to pay if you're visiting. Unfortunately, these fees get higher and higher with each year passing so get a good deal while you can. Waaaayy less crowded which I like. Jones beach gets a bit crazy in the summer and so congested sometimes it's just not pleasant to go. The beach is pleasant and clean, with a tunnel leading right to the shore. There's a restaurant down there and facilities that are pretty accessible. But if you get a chance... grab a cooler with some drinks, sandwiches, an umbrella and make your way down here. You won't regret it, it's beautiful. read more

Great fun with the kids at the sprinkler park. It has a good food venues and a bay Side as well as a ocean side. Every year we get a pass.

We have been coming here since we moved to Bethpage a year ago. Thankfully since we live in Bethpage which is in the Town of Oyster Bay, we are eligible for the beach pass. We come here all the time and it's never been too crowded, there's always been spots available. There's 2 sides to Tobay, one is deeper and larger, the other is smaller and the water is clear and shallow! We normally come to the shallow side which is behind the spray area. Our kids love coming here to play in the sand and the water. We bring lots of sand toys and a little cooler filled with snacks and drinks! I've seen plenty of people drinking wine and beer, etc and it has never seemed to be a problem. Lots of people bring big pop up tents, chairs and umbrellas. At night the waves get bigger, so watch the kids! The playground area gets very hot but the spray park area is awesome! read more

On the barrier island east of Jones Beach and west of Cedar beach. Primarily for Town of Oyster Bay residents but if you pay $40 they let non res to enter. Has a beach on the bay side with restaurants and large playground for the kiddies. Ocean side clean and the waves are good for boogie boarding. Walk about 3/4 mile west and hit the nude beach so be aware if you walk that way and don't want to be suprised by it. Not nearly as crowded as Jones Beach but be aeare that since the storm last year some of the beach has eroded so that at high tide you will be squeezed in a little especially by the concession stands. read more
