This place rocks! My son and I used to frequent the Shorewood restaurant on the weekends....he actually had a complete toddler tantrum when we arrived only to find that they had closed - so I'm so happy to see it return. While I do prefer the vibe of the other restaurant and I'll miss having tea, the West Bend will suffice. The menu has slightly changed, but the key staples remain. The tochi ramen with extra miso deviled eggs is my favorite. One of the new items added to the menu is shrimp and chicken shoyu. I plan to try that next. Overall I really like the restaurant and will return for sure. Some suggestions: The drink menu could be expanded a bit. And I'd recommend serving the wine in an actual wine glass. read more

Wow. Where do I start? In a nutshell - awesome. Great food, great and super friendly service and an excellent atmosphere. Tochi is refreshing change of pace from the average restaurant. The combination of flavors works so well it's hard to pick just what my favorite thing about my dish there was. Get here early though, we arrived 15 minutes after they opened and the place only had two tables left. Within an hour it was full and there were people waiting. Let me preface this by saying that I don't award 5 stars arbitrarily and am admittedly a harsh critic. But Tochi hit the mark all around. THE only complaint I have is I wish they were open for more than just 5 hours around dinner time. But that is what it is. To start, we got an order of shishito peppers. On the menu one of the ingredients listed under them is "fish sauce" but I assure you they do not taste fishy whatsoever. The flavor is totally unique and the predominant flavor is definitely sesame. I wish I could replicate this dish at home because they were SO good I could literally eat them every day and could have eaten the entire appetizer as an entree. One because it was DELICIOUS and two because the portion was really generous. Then I got the chicken chorizo udon for the entree which was just as satisfying. Again the flavors were totally unique and not something I could liken to anything else. My cousin ordered the beef udon and I tried hers - it was also heavenly and had a completely different flavor profile than my dish. I didn't get it because I am not a big beef eater whatsoever but I will definitely get that next time. They also have kids ramen which is such a generous portion for a small kid. The service was super fast, friendly, and attentive. Atmosphere is pretty cute as well. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back. read more

Tochi Saved my marriage, raised my kids, spayed my cat, found my birth parents and filled my belly.

I'll freely admit I'm a Ramen newbie. Had it a few times in the distant past (used to eat at this place called "Beef Bowl" in Denver back in the 70's.) so I'm probably not the best person to review Tochi, but I've been wanting to try it since it opened up here in West Bend. I'm very glad we did. Wine was very reasonably priced by the bottle so we shared a bottle and sat out on front patio. It was a beautiful night, which just made it all the better experience. We had the pork steam buns for a starter. Flavor was great, but the pork belly on the bun was a pretty small piece of pork belly. It certainly didn't look like the picture posted. Good flavor though it left me wanting more pork belly. I'd try again, off night for the steam bun guy maybe :). That was my only nit in the entire meal. My wife had the chicken chorizo udon which was simply hands down outstanding. The flavor was just excellent. Just the right amount of sauce, great lime/cilantro flavor. I wanted to eat all of it instead of mine. I ordered the beef udon which was also outstanding. It was just a *touch* dry, but the flavor was also outstanding, not *quite* as good as the chicken but still outstanding. When we go back, (and we will :) ), I'll order the Chicken Chorizo Udon and beware anyone who comes within a chopstick length of my bowl! Good stuff. :) Yum.. read more

This was absolutely amazing food! I want to go back at least once a week. I had the grassfed beef mazeman and my husband had the Tochi. We both loved our dishes. Wasn't super impressed with steamed pork buns appetizer- the pork was dry and Sauce was way way too spicy for my personal taste. Our meal made up for the appetizer! Over all- very happy! read more

I love this restaurant! It is my favorite restaurant to take my friends whenever they visit and my girlfriend and I love eating here as well. The tonkotsu is by and far my favorite dish. The restaurant is pretty small but it's well kept and clean and feels and looks modern and trendy. The staff has always been attentive and friendly and I will continue to frequent this establishment for as long as I live in the area! Their has never been a wait for a table when I have been there. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and help me when I'm unable to make up my mind between all of the amazing entrees. First visit. The meals were very good and reasonably priced. No diet soda. The appetizer, an edamame hummus was very good, but we literally recieved nine pieces of vegetables and 4 crackers for dipping. Not enough to finish half of the dip. I asked for more veggies, offered to even pay extra, which they gave up a few pieces, and was told that's all they can offer because there would not be enough for other orders. Not really acceptable. Food was simply fabulous. The savory went well with the plum wine, and was pleasantly surprised by the cucumber appetizer. Unfortunately, though our server was nice and personable, the service was poor. It wasn't busy and still took almost ten minutes to place an order. Food was good, service not so much. It was very busy, so we were told 35 minutes. It took over an hour. When a table was finally ready, it was given to some regular customers who came in after us. There was no place to sit, so we stood for an hour. A waitress scolded us that, "... need to make a path for servers!" Again, it was packed, so that was difficult to do. We really don't give out 5's but this place gets close. It is a cute, little place with edgy decor. The size is a bit of a downside because when we got there we knew there would be a wait and asked if they had a bar. Turns out they did, but it seems to be used for food service as well so there was no room to sit and have a drink while we waited. Fortunately, the wait was shorter than expected, upside. The food, however, was awesome. We had two appetizers between 4 of us. The brat potstickers and the peppers. Both excellent and light. My husband and I had the Tonkatsu (pork belly) Ramen, our other friend had the shrimp ramen dish and her husband had a catfish rice dish. The three Ramen were very flavorful and filling. The catfish was also a hit. Absolutely recommend and have already said we are excited to get back. read more

Food was great!! The drinks had to be re brewed because our waiter didn't like how the first batch looked. Once we finally got our drinks they were ok. We ordered immediately so we wouldn't be ignored again. 2 groups came and ordered after us. Both groups got their food and started eating we still were waiting. The waiter talked and talked and talked but not to us she was more interested in her coworkers than asking us how things were or if we needed a refill until after we finished and were ready to leave. I would recommend Tochi because of the food, but I will not recommend because of the poor service and we probably won't be back. read more

I thought I had finally found a quality ramen shop, unfortunately I thought wrong. While I must admit the food by itself is good, when coupled with the atrocious service it is just not worth it. Right from the start I could tell how disorganised and chaotic this restaurant is. There is no real waiting area so customers just awkwardly pile up in front of the doors stopping people from coming in, and making it difficult for finished customers to leave. Due to this chaos in the front the hostess asked me 3 separate times if I wanted to be on the waiting list I was already on, while completely ignoring other would be customers until their frustration drove them out the door. Even being on the waiting list there was no guarantee you would be sat in the order you arrived. The hostess would seat groups of four that just walked in the door, rather than split the tables to accommodate the two couples that had been waiting well over 30 minutes. The bar was also being sat by the hostess except for the customers that just wandered in couldn't find the hostess and sat themselves down. Bottom line here is pure chaos. Once finally seated our experience did not improve much. The table next to us was sat moments before us yet had time to order, eat, get dessert, pay, bussed, and have new customers sitting at before we even had our main course in front of us. We had the same server, and they had a more complicated order. As mentioned above the food was actually pretty good, so to see if this place could redeem themselves in my eyes as a take out place I made a second order to go. They messed that up in tremendous fashion as well, sending me home with a ramen bowl minus several of the main ingredients listed on the menu, including most obviously the broth. Which means the chaos I witnessed doesn't just stop at the hostess and wait staff, but is in the kitchen as well. Absolutely hands down one of my worst dinning experiences of all time. Maybe if this place focused their creativity more on taming the chaos, instead of trying to create/sell merchandise they would be worth going back to. read more
