    Crispy Gau Gee
    Andrew W.

After hearing about this place a few weeks ago, we finally ventured to Thornton to give this place a try. Overall, we enjoyed the entire experience we had at Today Hawaiian BBQ. The woman at the counter was friendly and took our order right away. The restaurant is decorated to match the theme of this restaurant. We ordered the 2 combo plate lunch and were not disappointed. I ordered Teri Beef and Kalua Pork. It came with two scoops of rice, a side salad and a scoop of mac salad. The teri beef was my favorite, but the kalua pork was lacking salt and had too much liquid smoke. Nothing some shoyu couldn't fix though. My husband ordered the 2 combo plate lunch as well but with galbi and chicken katsu and enjoyed it very much! The absolute winner for me was the crispy gau gee. So good!! The only note is that they are a little small in size and not a ton of filling. We are used to the massive ones we get from chinese restaurants in HI but we will take what we can get in CO haha Over all, this place is worth a try if you are in the area.

If you want a plate of Hawaiian bbq that tastes like a delicious home cooked meal, this is the place. Order takeout or dine-in, they have plenty of tables with long wooden benches for seating. Great for families or big groups. Everyone here is friendly and the service was speedy. We got our food for takeout in 10 minutes. Which was amazing, I was starving. The mixed bbq plate is my favorite. Lots of sauce on the chicken , pork and beef with fluffy white rice. Everything was nice and moist with a little grill char for that bbq flavor. Creamy Mac salad with fresh crunchy side salad (with ranch) was included! The boba was perfectly chewy! They offer other flavors as well. But mango and Thai are my usual choices.

Ordered off of DoorDash for this place so can't speak to the actual place but man was the food good! They were quick to prepare my order and delivery didn't take long at all. I got the loco moco, spam musubi, manapua and a coconut smoothie. Everything was fresh and hot when it arrived. And everything tasted soooo good. The loco moco was a lot of food so I had a second serving for the next day. Would definitely order from here again!

Stopped in for a quick bite before softball. Got the moochi chicken and the teriyaki chicken. Large is a pretty large serving and I was not able to finish it, small looked probably like the better option. Flavor of both was good. It is in a strip mall next to a market so there is plenty of parking. Staff was nice and food was ready in about 10 minutes. Overall a good experience.

Love this place. Come here all the time and they need disappoint. The family is super nice and friendly. We got the chicken katsu and mixed bbq. We added in the bbq pork bun and Marino and loved it. The food seems to get better each time.

I'm from Hawaii and this reminds me of L&L back home. Meals were a little more pricy than I would like. definitely not bad tasting food though. Good place to get a quick plate lunch if you're in the mood for that.

So glad to stumble upon Today Hawaii BBQ! Spam musubi was super delicious!! I ate two of them immediately and they are great warm (I have two more saved for tomorrow so I hope I can warm them up). Wasn't too fond of the manapua so I would just load up on more musubi in the future. The grilled garlic shrimp was very tasty, as was the BBQ combo - I opted for 2 combo platter of chicken and pork, which included a small side salad and macaroni salad. I went to pick up for takeout, it's a small very casual spot so only a couple of people were dining in but there were lots of other takeout orders. Overall very happy to stumble on this spot!

Pretty good, auto elected sides though? Also, smells like a nail salon. Price is right, you get a lot for a small price.

My usual strategy: fly in early, stop here, order the big meat platter, eat about half of it, go lift, and then finish the rest on the drive to site. Balanced lifestyle, right? Last visit I had turkey, brisket, sausage, and ribs, and every one of them brought something to the table. Great smoke, great flavor, and plenty of sauce options if that's your thing. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was easygoing, and it had that comfortable, family-run barbecue feel that you hope for when you walk into a place like this. If I'm anywhere near the area again, this will definitely be one of my stops. Hard to beat good barbecue that fits perfectly into the travel-and-gym routine.

Either the broths lacked flavor, the meats weren't fresh enough, or the overall experience just didn't live up to the hype. At one point I genuinely thought maybe hotpot in Colorado just wasn't for me. But my friends, who absolutely LOVE this place and come here all the time, basically forced me to give it a try, and wow, I'm so glad they did. From the first bite, I could immediately tell this place was different. The broth was rich, flavorful, and comforting in a way that makes you want to keep eating even after you're already full. Everything tasted fresh, high quality, and actually well-prepared. The meats, veggies, noodles, and sides all complemented each other perfectly, and the whole experience just felt cozy and satisfying. Another thing that really stood out to me was the service. Every server I've interacted with here has been incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They genuinely make the experience even better because the atmosphere feels warm and inviting from the moment you walk in. You can tell they care about making customers feel comfortable and taken care of. Now it's literally all I think about whenever the weather starts getting cool outside. Like the second there's even a slight chill in the air, this place immediately comes to mind. It's become one of those comfort meals that you randomly crave late at night because nothing else compares. The kind of food that warms you up completely and makes you leave feeling happy and full. Honestly, this place changed my opinion on hotpot in Colorado completely. If you've been disappointed by other hotpot spots around here like I was, PLEASE give this one a chance because it is on a completely different level.

We knew the routine that this was a walk up to the bar to order food/drinks but we loved the idea of being able to order from a QR code on the table and have food and drinks delivered directly to our table. Unfortunately, the execution completely missed the mark. After placing our food & drink order, we waited several minutes with no drinks. We were about to just go to the bar ourselves when our food arrived. When we asked the food runner about the drinks, we were told, "They're busy, you might have to go to the bar to get them." That completely defeats the purpose of ordering ahead through the QR system. My husband ended up standing in a very long bar line, and just as he was finally reaching the counter, our drinks finally showed up -- probably 10 minutes after the food arrived which was about 25ish minutes after placing the initial order. By then, our food was cold. The brisket sandwich had barely any actual meat on it (maybe 2oz of meat max) and was mostly inedible fat. The wings were dried out, cold, and tasted like they'd been reheated multiple times and drenched in buffalo sauce to cover it up. No one ever checked on us to see if things were okay. (They used to come around all the time) We also had to get our own utensils and condiments which we knew from previous visits, but the guy that dropped off the food made sure to tell us to bus our own table, afterwards, scrape food off dishes into the trash, and return trays and dishes to busstubs they had set out. Like I said, from our previous visits we knew this is more of a bar-service style restaurant and not full table service, but the expectation of any sort of a tip much less the 25% gratuity that was automatically generated/expected on our e-bill before actually finalizing our bill is honestly ridiculous. Other than someone dropping food at the table and a bartender opening a can of beer, there was essentially zero customer service. We ordered our own food, got our own utensils and condiments, cleaned up our own table, and still somehow were expected to tip at a level you'd expect from a full-service restaurant!? I can get the same level of service at a fast food restaurant and no one expects a 25% tip there. To top it off, the live band felt more suited for a retirement community social hour than a lively Saturday night crowd. Needless to say... in the six years it's been since we have been to the old man, we clearly have missed nothing other than its decline.
