My experience with Dr. Nguyen was fantastic from beginning to end. I'm not sure if Dr. Nguyen is a one-woman operation, but on the day I visited, she fulfilled the roles of optometrist and receptionist. From the moment I saw her, she struck me as sweet and good natured. She had a couple of appointments scheduled before mine, but she kindly offered to call me when she was ready. I used the opportunity to peruse the media section of Walmart and ended up buying "Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville" on Switch and the "Silent Night, Deadly Night" collection (the obscure parts 3-5) on Blu-Ray. The examination process went much more smoothly than I had anticipated. I feel anxious in medical settings and when people put things in or on my eyes, which are very sensitive. Dr. Nguyen had such a natural, relaxed personality, though, that I actually began to experience ASMR during the examination. When I told her this, she chuckled and said, "That's good!" As expected, my eyesight had deteriorated dramatically since my last exam nearly 15 years ago. I went from 20/80 in both eyes to 20/200. Dr. Nguyen also diagnosed me with astigmatism*. She handed me the prescription and gently urged me to schedule eye exams more frequently. I smiled and replied, "Yes, but only if you do it!" If you need an eye exam and live near Helotes, then I would highly recommend making an appointment at the Bandera Eye Clinic. Before writing this review, I took a moment to peruse the one- and two-star reviews. Oh, dear.... My New Year's Resolution is to be nicer and less judgmental, so I'll spare these fine folks my poison pen, but I would implore you to trust my judgment. I'm awesome, you see, and so is Dr. Nguyen! *You never know when someone might be making a "People of Walmart" video, so I came prepared. I wore a beanie propeller and cut holes in the back of my Super Mario pajama bottoms to expose my butt cheeks. Please tell me know if you see me on YouTube. **I have astigmatism, not astigmatacism, a related condition whereby the patient's sight becomes blurry as a result of blood seeping from the eyes.

The doctors assistant was very rude and basically told me to live with it. The past year I have struggled to see but thought with my vision being so bad I would just have to live with it as the assistant told me. Fast forward to now. I decided to see another doctor and I am glad I did. See my other review to see who I went to. The doctor told me he could get my prescription right without reading glasses and if not he would fit me for multifocal contacts. He nailed my prescription and the doctor before was WAY off I mean like over -150. I see my computer screen perfectly no reading glasses needed, I can even read the fine print of my books that I read at night with no reading glasses. Don't put up for "good enough" when there is a possibilist of WAY better.

She truly cares about her patients and remembers details. Sometimes walking in, it just feels like family. The office is clean and always decorated for the seasonal holidays. I don't want to highly recommend them because then everyone will go there and we won't be able to get an appointment so just know that they are the best!
