Beautiful hotel with beautiful views. Loved the decor. Food was fresh and locally sourced. Really liked the seasoning of the avocado and arugula with buratta toast. The food here is amazing. We came out for a "glamping" weekend and stopped for lunch before heading to the State Park. It was so good we made dinner reservations. Fabulous and fresh. The next morning we skipped oatmeal and went back to the Wandering Goose at The Tokeland Hotel. The staff is friendly, helpful, and the chefs are superb. We had fried chicken ....best ever. Biscuits are so good and I am not a biscuit lover, I normally find them heavy and dry. These are light fluffy and taste delicious, especially when accompanied by the homemade raspberry jam. My husband loves oysters and theirs are the best he's had in the state. Everything was delicious. And the surroundings are lovely and serene. read more

My wife and I have stayed at the Tokeland many times, under these and previous owners, and have just returned from another delightful stay at this classic Victorian hostelry. Nope, no TV (gasp!), no air conditioning, the floors creak, and beach access is distant. Kids'd probly find it "boring" (though one adorable family settled in happily with board games--imagine that!). What can I say about this delicious place? It was built in 1885 and it's not for everyone. So if you don't like resident dogs and cats, haunted rooms, feathers, taxidermy, unexplainable antiques, tiny watercolor landscapes, laughter wafting through thin walls, quality bedding, a warm fire, champagne being thrust in your hand upon entry, high end soaps and shampoos, sharing a bathroom, flickering candles and vintage lighting combined with award winning southern comfort food, then do stay away. The power went out in the entire area one night we were there from a winter storm and we played scrabble with another guest by candlelight around a crackling fire until it came back on. My husband and I went for the harvest dinner which was awesome. The first night was fine. We stayed a second night which was pretty awful. The weather was bad and so we were stuck indoors. A young child screamed for 4 hours and neither the parents or hotel dealt with it. And in addition, there were quite a few workers pounding on the walls for repair . It was so loud and there was no escape. We had not been informed that there would be loud repairs all day long. We would not have stayed the 2nd night if we had been informed. I wrote to the hotel as I do not like writing bad reviews. But since I never received a response, or an apology, I am submitting this review. MC read more

We attended a 20 person dinner at the Historic Tokeland Hotel on Monday night. The service and food were exemplary. Our primary server was Jake, he and his team did an amazing job answering questions and providing everything we needed in a timely manner. We had a special menu that was made especially for us, with many courses, from pre appetizer to dessert. It was served family style with so much we couldn't eat it all. However...we somehow had room for dessert all of which were made in house, as was everything else. The atmosphere is warm and homey. They had a great wine selection. We had a wonderful time. We would highly recommend you make the drive to Tokeland for a one of a kind dining experience. Again a special shout out to Jake and the crew!! read more

I travel a lot for work; 100-150 days a year. So many times I have been back to hotel for days before remembering a previous visit. Not the Tokeland Hotel. It is a charming place with a unique character that will become a cherished long-term memory if you let it. Full disclosure: I grew up in old houses and find their charm outweighs any challenges. The Tokeland Hotel is one of, if not the, oldest continually operated hotels in Washington State and it is from a different time; the bathrooms are shared, you will hear people talking in the halls, the floorboards creek and there are no closets in the rooms. If your idea of a hotel is a full resort stocked with all the latest amenities you will be disappointed. However if you want something different than your usual hotel stay, read on. The small rooms are charming and the new owners are engages in an ambitious renovation process with new beds and wardrobes and wall decorations arriving daily when I stayed there. The real charm however is the way these rooms encourage one to go downstairs and meet other guests. It is a relic of a far more social time and it will transport you there if you let it. The gardens are interesting, the wildlife close at hand and the air reminiscent of that British phrase "taking in the sea air". This is the best place I have stumbled across in my travel in many years and it will be part of my future vacation plans until to many people know about it and reservations will be beyond my means. Everything about this place is worthy of five stars, from the food to the decor to the homey, family atmosphere. We fell in love immediately with the ghost kittens (our pup made fast friends with all the farm animals and wildlife on the property) and we had the most gobsmackingly fresh dozen oysters of our lives. The property is truly gorgeous, inside and out, and we (especially the pup) enjoyed a nice, sloshy walk through the trail into the bay just before high tide on a sunny late summer day. We have already strongly recommended that friends and family stay here, and we will definitely make the drive again and again, even if just to stop in. read more

Great hotel! So different and had old-time elegance! At first, I was wary of not having a bathroom in our room but was no problem. No different than using the bathroom down the hall at home. (And bathrooms so up-to-date, clean and attractive). Staff were friendly and eager to please. Also, they acted like a team. If I had a request, it didn't matter if it was that person's "job" or not. They just helped. And loved the animals. They give the place a cozy, warm atmosphere. Food was very good. There was nothing that was not excellent about this place. Good news first. Food was fab! Best fried oysters ever! (And I am old) I had to order another! I dined lite, oysters and a wedge. Wedge was excellent with smoked bacon and dried tomato. Cosy and historic and trails into the salt marsh outside. I'd heard that the place was purchased by a cook. I would say this is not a destination for someone hoping to eat Keto or Mediterranean. But if the selection of carbs you'd like to see is covered by biscuits, coffee cake, hush puppies, Texas toast, English muffins or grits, yes also spaghetti - well, you are in the right place. And you can support a labor of love, keeping any historic building functional has got to be a heavy lift. I loved the fireplace and enjoyed hanging out in the lobby. I met a man who was showing others that his uncle was pictured in a lobby photo of a great white shark that had been accidentally caught nearby in fishing nets. We tried the restaurant since my parents are locals and we thought it would be fun to try their Southern food. We tried fried tomatoes (amazing!),fried pickles, crab dip and hush puppies for Starters.... everything was so good!The mains were fried chicken, clam and spaghetti, Po boy fried chicken sandwich and grits with shrimp! Mother's Day, 2023. NO menu available. A $65 per person for a nothing-special buffet. We were stuck. It was Mother's Day and too late to get reservations elsewhere. We have Always had a regular menue choice over the many years coming here for M's Day. We were told by two workers the 20% non-voluntary tip was included in the price. Lox was the only seafood in buffet. The buffet was the Only choice. $170 ($26 mandatory tip + tax) bill for just Two of us. Never going back and we have patronized this place for 40 years. No more. I have been here before with my fiancée and friends, and the food was great and the service even better. Unfortunately, today that all got wiped away. It was just my fiancée and me and we had shown up and got seated at 9:30 am. Our drinks and order get put in and then families trickle in after us and start getting served before us. Our server did not notice that our order had been deleted and there is a lack of communication in their kitchen. How would I know? Because I have worked in kitchens. If your food isn't coming out in the order it's put in, something is off. Needless to say, table of five who got seated after us got their food before us and we got comped a free biscuit an hour later. Took our food to go and that'll be the last time for us. I have been looking forward to visiting the tokeland hotel for awhile and it did not disappoint. This is the oldest hotel in Washington and the owners want to keep the charm of the old building and have made the interior fairly rustic and use vintage furniture. The attention to detail to this place is amazing. The rooms are a bit small and the walls a little thin but what else would you expect from a building this old. The beds are very nice compared to most hotels. It's the most dog friendly hotel I have been to. The staff is great. It's a great spot to just relax and the restaurant features some of the best southern food i have ever had and done with a farm to table lens ( the baked goods are insanely good as well. There are not many places like the tokeland hotel. If you want an unpretentious escape from reality, I highly recommend going to tokeland for a few nights. read more

My wife and I decided to take a trip here in celebration of our 15th anniversary. Plus, we're big fans of all things historic and supposedly haunted. The building itself is wonderful. Several rooms downstairs filled with antiques, plus sitting areas, including couches by a nice, cozy fireplace. Upstairs was a hallway full of small hotel rooms, and littered throughout Are community bathrooms. The food at the restaurant was good - not spectacular, but decent. The staff were nice, the owners hospitable, except there was one lady who struck me as a little... odd. After we had checked in at the front desk, we walked to the back room in search of the stairs leading up to our room. She asked us if we had gotten the tour, to which we responded no. She started to lead us around a bit, but was awkward, and kind of trailed off after a few seconds, and just left us to do our own thing. The room was nice, but really small. I somewhat expected this, it being a very old building and all. There was really no purpose to staying in the room however, except to sleep. So we took off and drove around, and came back to eat dinner. Later that night, after we had settled down, I headed downstairs to have a cigarette outside. There was a dog running around the hotel, which I thought was strange, but to each their own. It wasn't the yellow lab, 'Gus,' who is the sweetest dog. This was a poodle mix whiz h I thought I saw with some guests earlier that evening. Anyway, I saw a door leading outside at the bottom of the stairs, and since there were no signs saying it wasn't usable, I exited out that door, leaving it not completely latched so I could get back in easier. A few seconds later, the dog I mentioned pushed the door open and went running outside. Aghast that I had apparently just allowed a guest's dog get loose, I tried catching it to bring it back. The awkward lady from earlier was now at the door, and she just stood there in the doorway. I tried asking her if it was her dog, and just got a nod in response. I asked if it was okay outside, to which she didn't respond. Assuming the answer was no, I tried to chase down the dog to wrangle it back inside. The damn thing would bolt as soon as I got close, and kept running further away each time. I was feeling terribly guilty at this point, and kept trying to catch this dog, while the awkward lady just stood there, not saying anything. Finally, when I got close enough to grab its collar, it just growled and tried nipping at me, and then ran away again. At this point, I was done. I walked back toward the door, and lo and behold, the dog runs inside. Exasperated, I walked inside, and tried to close and lock the door, but awkward lady had her hand in the door jamb, and just stood there, wobbling back and forth like she was drunk. "Excuse me," I said, and she finally moved her hand so I could lock the door. Shaking my head, I went back upstairs to my room, feeling embarrassed and foolish. After trying to lay down and relax from that ordeal, twenty minutes or so passed, and then I hear the dog running up and down the halls, and it started barking. Non-stop. I got back up again, and went out in the hallway, and the dog was just sitting at the end of the hallway, barking down the stairs. Lay me make it known that, by this time, it was 11:30 at night. I walked toward it and it bolted back downstairs. It came back several minutes later, and started barking again. My wife got up this time, opened the door, and said "Git!" And the dog bolted back downstairs again. This happened once or twice more before it apparently had enough. After not getting to bed before midnight, I was then awoken shortly after 7 AM to music from down in the lobby. By this point, I was done with the Tokeland Hotel. My wife and I made a hasty retreat, and left to find breakfast in Westport instead. When we first arrived, we were enamored with the historic appeal of the place, and wanted to buy souvenirs and everything. By the time we left, we never wanted to come back. we frequent the Tokeland hotel whenever we come into town, about once a month. we love the breakfast (country fried pork chop is my favorite ). the last few visits, we have noticed that the portions are inconsistent and the service. this has been the most inconsistent . I don't mind paying the 20% included gratuity. but that doesn't mean the staff doesn't have to WORK FOR IT. if it's a given, and I don't have a choice to withhold tip (which by definition means " to insure proper service") then DONT include it. we may never be back just because of the service. waiting almost an HOUR to take a drink/food order, (while we noticed, only us and 1 other table was seated during this time, and claiming to be slammed.). I have worked in the industry for 18 years. I know what slammed looks like, or even coming off of being incredibly busy. this was a far cry from an excuse. this was being inattentive. if gratuity is included then I expect the service to reflect the inclusion I am already paying for. read more

I have had two dinners and a breakfast there. The first meal was in the top 5 best meals ever and the other two in the top 15-20 (and I am a foodie). Nuanced flavors, incredible salads and Southern cooking at its best. Okay, not a place for Keto or Mediterranean but certainly a place for really good food. The baked goods are fantastic. I bought the cookbook and have made dishes from this and they've been crowd favorites. The shrimp and grits, Oh lord, have I died and gone to heaven ? If your coming to stare into your cell phone all evening, (as one couple did while we were there) this is not the place for you. The historic building even has a ghost. Visited over Mothers Day weekend with my God daughter and had the best experience! First, the Mothers Day brunch was the best brunch I've ever had! Right up there with Ritz Carlton & Four Seasons brunches I've had in the past. Absolutely NOTHING missing on the buffet and everything was simply delicious! The staff was incredibly attentive and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs which makes a big difference to a patron. The hotel it's self is so quaint with an interesting history dating back to 1885 when it was built as a home to house travelers. The new owners couldn't be nicer folks and they have the proper vision to ensure the old hotel is in good hands. Usually a hotel is just a place to sleep and then move along but not this one. When you come here you'll want to bring a book to read by the crackling fire and take some time to walk around and tour the historic building and grounds. You feel like you've stepped back into the Victorian era when you're here. Be sure to eat at the restaurant which is stellar. read more

Prior to 2018, I adored the Tokeland Inn. Always got a great meal in the past. We visited yesterday and were happy that the charming decor of the restaurant has been preserved. However, we were not pleased with the food. The cranberry pot roast was not pot roast at all but dry, salty shredded beef with a little cranberry sauce on top. They also made the potatoes with milk and butter, which I can't eat because I am allergic to cow' milk. I was not impressed with the very sweet baked beans that were substituted. I hear that the new owner is into soul food. This might work in Seattle but not here on the coast. The best way for the Tokeland Inn to be successful would be to duplicate the previous recipes and ditch the soul food. We will eat there again if we hear the quality has improved. read more

I've given the new owners 6 or 7 tries, and I'm sorry to say that most of their overly expensive dishes we've tried have more of a "swing and a miss" than a solid home run. A few things are very done well, here and there, but most of their dishes really could stand improvement. And although the chef clearly tries to do some unique twists on his dishes, too often they lack cohesion and proper execution. The wait service has always been marginal; I know its the rare server who is prompt, cheerful and makes your meal a pleasure , but I would have thought the owners might have insisted that the servers learn some basics. This latest dinner, the server thought arguing with me over whether my entree was underdone or not was the correct response. So sorry, young lady, but that's MY call, not yours, and its YOUR tip that's on the line. What possible purpose could one have for telling a customer that they're wrong about something that makes them unhappy? Baffling. But that's the last attempt I'll make at eating here. Except for Burn's Night, which they did a terrific job with, I've never come away really pleased with my meal, and at Seattle prices its simply not worth it. We met with Heather (owner) and Nick to see the property and discuss options. We swiftly put down a $2500 Deposit to secure our date. We don't live in the area, so we were dependent on calls/emails for planning. We began to reach out to discuss food/accommodation details multiple times with no response. Because of the failure to respond, we had no choice but to finally change our venue with just over 6 months to go. We've requested a refund of our deposit numerous times still with no response. We've had our lawyer formerly request a refund with no response. We're now forced to litigate. Don't be duped. These people are scammers. They'll take your money and run. read more

Ate breakfast at the hotel on Saturday. The previous owner is a friend of mine and I've always loved the hotel. It was my birthday so going here was a treat from my daughter. I was so disappointed. I ordered the signature dish, the Larry and Mary. chicken fried steak on a biscuit with bread and butter pickles, mustard and honey. What I got was an old dry piece of chicken breast about the size of a silver dollar fried in too hot grease making it as hard as a brick and almost impossible to eat. The biscuit was good. The service was good. The price was high for what I got. I was so disappointed. My daughter didn't even try to eat her meal. Won't be back. read more

We were travelling with small children so an employee for the casino suggested this place. We arrived here with the intention to eat dinner but left without ordering as we took a look at the menu and realized we've already eaten what they had available earlier in the day. Our group wanted something different. The waitress was busy attending to an older couple. She spent a great deal of time at their table so it kind of felt like we were being ignored. She was really friendly when we decided to leave though so I don't know what to read from that. Don't want to assume anything negative, so we would give this place a try for breakfast next time. The service here keeps steadily declining. Went to brunch today, arrived around 10:45 and didn't get our food until after 12. Our waitress walked away when one of our friends was mid-question, there were things on the menu that they no longer serve and it took so long just to get coffee. The food was ok. The biscuits were good but the potatoes were so greasy and the shrimp and grits were swimming in oil. I've been here at least 8 times in the past year but I'm not sure it's worth going back anymore. read more

AMAZING! Enjoyable and friendly staff, relaxed and refreshing atmosphere. Beautiful view of the bay from the dining area. Love the rustic decor. The food was PHENOMENAL!! All super fresh, we ordered the crab and cheddar melt and the crab louie. The salad was crunchy and crisp. There was a ton of crab and veggies. They didn't skimp anything. The crab tasted like they had gotten off of the boat this morning. The fries were wonderful as well, not greasy or too salty at all. Staff checked in on us and made light conversation. It's definitely family friendly! They have squeaky clean high chairs at the ready and very well spaced out seating. I will definitely be coming back again! read more
