After researching this place on Yelp before our next trip to Long Beach, I decided it was where I wanted us to stay for my birthday weekend. We got there about 25 minutes before check in which was no problem. The two ladies working there at the time were both very nice and accommodating. We got to our room and I loved it. The stained glass, antique furniture and fixtures were fascinating to look at. The grounds were very pretty, lots of beautiful plants in bloom. There was booklet in the room speaking of the history being it's the oldest consistantly running hotel in Washington state. It even went in depth about spirits that have some presence but sadly I did not see one. The bed was comfortable, the towels were soft and fresh and parking was a breeze. The reason I am giving 4/5 stars is because the lighting, although pretty..I just couldn't see! Putting my makeup on in the morning was a challenge. The walls are very thin which I understand, it's old! They provided ear plugs on the bedside tables but I can't sleep with those in my ears. Lastly, it took awhile to get used to the smell. Again it's old, it smelled old. But it doesn't have to? There are some sleek antique looking air fresheners out there in the world that could really help out a lot. All in all it was a nice place to stay. If we go back again, we would stay here. read more

Our room, 9, was spacious and had a private access staircase that came in handy. Only reason for not giving 5 stars was windows were difficult to open and close, the noise levels were higher than normal due to thin walls. Might stay here again! read more

What a beautiful old fashioned respite from 2026. The room we rented was lovely and large and had a fantastic claw foot tub! The bed was very comfortable and it was nice and quiet. Cute "pub" attached and nice "library" and game room ( board games a pool table). Staff was wonderful in preparing a birthday card for my daughter and giving her a complimentary dessert. Only one complaint, and I hope management sees this because it's important!!! It's ( obviously a vintage hotel) and has lots of vintage charm that you like to keep intact,BUT the dim yellow Edison lightbulbs and nearly impossible to read by and there's not a lamp in sight! Really need some lamps! Oh and it'd be really great if you could pop a tiny refrigerator in there too, I mean you already have a non vintage TV, a refrigerator would reallllly be great! The Shelburne is part of the small Adrift group of hotels. It is like a large vintage home crossed with hotel amenities and good service. The one drawback is that many of the rooms get vehicle noise from Long Beach's main North-South road. Earplugs are provided. My room had a bathroom with a shower. The tile was dated but otherwise it was very presentable, including thick towels and hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They had cotton swabs and cotton balls, there was a black towel dedicated to makeup cleansing. They also have some hooded cotton-poly robes, more on that later. In addition to glass drinking glasses there are wine glasses in the room. The bedding was excellent. There is a good grocery across the street for wine, beer, and spirits. In the lobby, there are individual French presses, caf and decaf ground coffee, and tea, 24 hours. The building is trimmed with acres of clear vertical grain fir and bead board wainscoting. The history of building and moving the hotel could not be duplicated today. The overall design style is Adrift's mid-century-60s modern with Edison bulbs. My room faced the street and shared a rooftop deck with another room. The deck had two sets of folding tables and chairs. On the first floor there are several rooms with porches facing the side garden and bocce ball court. There is plenty of room inside in the lobby and the game room to chat or chill. It is about a half mile walk to the beach, or you can car or bike on 38th. The main Adrift is on the equivalent of 10th, about 1 mile. That location shares its saunas, pool, and bicycles with the Shelburne. That is a good use of the robes. Ask, of course, but the staff related that Shelburne guests would attire in their swim-sauna suits, throw on their robes, travel to the Adrift facilities, then return, informal-style. Every single employee I encountered was upbeat and happy. It's one of the finest examples of customer service I have ever seen. Super cute boutique hotel that started in 1896. Was here on business and sent pics to my wife who said it looked right out of a Hallmark Channel movie. Definitely unique. Tons of character. The room key was an actual key. Staff was awesome. If you want the chain hotel experience, don't come here. My only negative would be the water pressure but the pluses far outweighed that one minus. read more

Everything about my stay here was wonderful. I enjoyed my room with a claw-footed bathtub, a comfortable bed, and a balcony (that the weather unfortunately kept me from using). The lobby is homey and comfortable, and I took my time sipping coffee in the morning, enjoying the peaceful ambience. Every person I interacted with, from the woman who answered my telephone inquiry about available rooms, to the server in the pub, to an employee sharing the history of the hotel, were helpful and friendly. Old place, quiet. 1 mile from town with shops and food. Directly across street was an amazing food store. Bed was comfy but room was Hot. Had to climb stairs for rooms. Garden view was Not as grand as it sounds but had a small balcony which was nice. No dressers for your clothes, no fridge. Shower was nice but old , weirdly working (cool looking) knobs. Such a cool historic spot! I didn't know what to expect going there, but the prices are fair and the lady in the hotel at the time was very helpful. There's some stuff you have to know before going here... The hallways are crooked. Probably spirits lurking about (it's funny I didn't know it was a thing here, but one of the first questions I asked was if it was haunted). They're mostly friendly though. Haha. I love that kind of stuff though so I was stoked. I didn't get to try the food or cocktails, but next time! The garden is lovely and the rooms are super simple and cute. The bathtub was lovely to relax in for my birthday. I guess some people may have complained about the street noise but I didn't notice it at all. The fan was on all night so it covered it up! Very close to the beach, but no views. My only complaints: No mini fridges, understandable though. That would take away some charm, but it made it a bit difficult for trying to store milk/leftovers (they stored some milk in their fridge for us though so that was nice). Also, our room was so stuffy and it wasn't even that warm out. Out of the 4 windows in the room, two opened (the bathroom window and the balcony door). The fan helped though! Sorry to say our experience wasn't a very good one. Lots of hits and misses. To start a 18% Living Wage charge is included in every bill. The burger wasn't very big, no tomato's or onions. Just a small patty, wilted lettuce and cheese. Pub bun was good. Fries weren't crunchy and if you can believe this, no ranch or blue cheese dressing. What?? My wife's mussels and chips were the smallest size lid mussels on the planet. Almost the size of an erasure of a pencil. Tempura cauliflower was good but the blueberry cobbler was awful. The frozen blueberries and the over salted biscuit needs a do over. read more

The dank, musky smell pervading the whole building and threadbare, frayed sheets give evidence that this hotel is over 100 years old!!

Cute vintage hotel with fun amenities. Stayed here for a couple nights, and wished I could have stayed longer! The room had the perfect touch of modern while preserving some of the original hotel's vintage vibe. We got a room on the top floor, so it did get a little hot on an 80 degree summer day without air conditioning, but it cooled down at night, and having a fan in the room helped. On the bright side, we didn't get a lot of noise from creaky floorboards. The bed was comfortable with a plush comforter and pillows, and and our room featured a cute little day bed which was perfect for cat napping. I appreciated the little amenities such as local tea and coffee in the lobby, and am a big fan of the EO bath and body products that they had in their bathrooms; they also had soap bars from a local soap shop! We didn't take advantage of the DVD's, board games, pool table, or shuffleboard, but we did stop by the Adrift sister hotel to take advantage of the free beach cruiser rentals for a nice ride on the bike path near the beach. The restaurant downstairs had some good food and drink options, and we enjoyed eating in the garden patio. Overall, we enjoyed our first stay out at the Shelburne on the coast, and definitely would return! read more

Terrible experience!! This is an example of bait-and-switch. The room was not as advertised at all. There was an odor of mildew, the room was supposed to have a sofa in it per the website and was supposed to be overlooking the garden. There was no sofa and the room overlooked the street. I left immediately but not until I struggled to get the information for securing a refund from an obstructionist, rude front desk person. Fast forward to today - they insist on keeping one night's fee which would be okay except that the website is inaccurate. If the room had been advertised accurately they could keep the money. But it was not, so I've filed a complaint with the Washington State Atty General's office and with my bank. To top it off, when I called back to explain that they could refund the money OR I would file a state complaint they said they wouldn't be threatened and hung up. Since 1) they lied 2) they're rude 3) they refuse even to politely discuss alternative there is a pending complaint with the state and my bank is opening a fraud investigation. read more

Unfortunately, there were a few things to be desired about a recent trip to the Shelburne mainly the way staff dealt with communicating during inconvenient situations including power outage and training a new chef at the Adrift restaurant. The power went out intermittently in Seaview around dinner and although the bar staff offered to serve a drink, they understandably had to shut down the kitchen, and they did not offer to comp anything as they said their main concern was inability to charge guests for drinks or other snacks and they opted to get the room numbers from folks in order to charge later. With no other options or information we ventured into Long Beach to find a dinner spot and purchased our own supplies including flashlights for the return back to the hotel. The next day we learned that breakfast is only served on the weekends and we were advised to go into Long Beach again to their partner hotel, Adrift at the Pickled Fish which we did, yet unbeknownst to us they were training a new chef that morning and it was an hour after we ordered before any food was served. We overheard the issue about untrained kitchen staff being the issue from the wait staff running around and no offer of a comp or real explanation at the front end otherwise we would've gone elsewhere. Disappointing experience overall at both hotels. read more

We planned our wedding from the other side of the country and we were looking for somewhere to house our families and make us feel at home. The Shelburne Hotel is the spot! It has a perfectly vintage feel and provides modern amenities. Their fresh, daily european breakfast had some of the best scones I've ever tasted. The staff is incredibly accommodating. The rooms are beautiful. The beds are made of wishes and clouds. The food is delicious. The gardens were meticulous. Make sure you take advantage of the rooms with balconies and claw foot tubs. Whether you are looking for a relaxing & romantic weekend away or looking for a venue to host your event, you can't go wrong with this hotel. The staff makes you feel like family. read more

New Year's Eve meal. we We were seated right away. Great atmosphere in the pub. Good cider on tap. Absolutely the worst meal and service I've ever had. I think they prepared everything ahead and just left it sitting out. Nothing was above room temperature. It took us from 5:30 to 9 pm to be served all the courses. Nothing was worth the $55 charge with the 18% living wage tacked on. I just moved to this area and i will never eat here again after that experience. This is a lovely hotel with a little bit of history. We enjoyed our overnight stay. The Pros: Staff was welcoming, I love that you can text if you need anything and get a response right away. It's different and charming with a lot of character. I loved the balcony off our room to let in tons of fresh air and the beautiful stained glass windows. Our bed was SO COMFORTABLE with high end bedding and lovely lights on either side. The room has everything you need including A FAN!!!! We loved that we had a fan in the room. There is no Air conditioning but it's the beach in Washington so it would be rarely needed. The shampoo/conditioner, etc was in large bottles which is nice, no need to squeeze out the tiny conditioner like in a chain hotel. The room also had bath robes and make up wipes - little touches that I love. There's a room downstairs with games/movies. The Cons: the shower in our room was tiny. Barely big enough for one person. I'm sure all the bathrooms are different so if this is important to you, ask about the bathroom. read more

What a cool little coastal hotel. Oldest in Washington. Stayed here for a night before going fishing in a charter boat in Ilwaco. They did a nice job during the re-opening of the State. All were masked, hand sanitizer was all around and the room was spotless. This place reminded me of my grandma's home in Iowa. Old, historic and beautiful. The bed was comfortable and loved that there was a fan in the room. Nice location, and easy parking. The best part was they filled my cooler with ice so I could keep my salmon cold on the way back home. Very cool place. read more

Wow, what a delightful dinner and lounging experience! After a disappointing attempt at dinner at the [pickled fish], we went to this sister hotel of Adrift and had a 10/10 evening dining in the main room! Not only were staff attentive, accommodating, and thoughtful, everything we ordered off the menu was tasty and filling! (We'd heartily recommend the chickpeas, walnuts, fries, the Finnriver cider rotation, and Cranberry Mule.) We enjoyed a game of pool, sat and played cards for hours with delicious cider and libations, enjoyed strolling the charming courtyard and garden, and happily would have stayed the night had any rooms been available! This historic landmark has all the old timey charm with modern comfort - and a few twists waiting for you to find yourselves! ;-) The only constructive criticism we'd give is to have more options for dairy-free/gluten-free combo allergy. That said, we honestly talked whether we could rent the whole place out for a milestone birthday celebration, so needless to say we will be back! read more

So here is the honest opinion on their New Years 5 course dinner. First and foremost good for you for making it work in a cozy tent on a blustery eve. The hotel is old timey and very cool, and staff is very friendlyBut let's talk menu- we had no idea what was on the menu, it wasn't listed online and we were up for an adventure, so Check mate. All protein-keto forward courses left me longing for a bit of rice or potato or even a blush of vegetable. Cold crab cake, the sushi tuna, was bland. 3rd course was Luke wam heavy mussel cream soup that needs a touch of shallot or lemon grass to cut the heavy cream. Salmon was perfect.. beef was also chilly and not what was expected. Great elements just needs some balance between protein and sides and maybe a step up in service, or interaction. Not once did someone ask how I liked the food. Wine pairing was decent except the chunky red; literally could taste dirt and there was something chunky in it, but after 5 glasses, who cares. My wife and I used to love The Shelburne Pub, we frequented it regularly, but have not been able to because of covid. It has since been remodeled and is not quite the quaint and relaxing Pub environment it used to be. But the ambience aside, it does not explain the absolute horrible experience we had the other night. I do not normally give bad reviews, but this was so messed up I felt I had to warn others. Firstly, the two drinks we ordered were incredibly strong to the point of gasping, and my kamikaze had so much lime in it, I could barely drink it. But it did help pass the 40 minutes it took for our appetizer and food to arrive... At the same time... If they were busy I would have understood it, but there were literally 2 other tables filled. Secondly, we both ordered a couple of steaks that were listed at $29 on their menu. I do not mind paying a lot for a good steak. But what we were served were some badly cut loaded with gristle New York Steaks with a "pile" of pub fries on the plate. Nothing else, no vegies, just a small saucer of ketchup (real small). The flavor of the steak was decent, but nothing more than I would expect from Denny's or Shari's, definitely NOT a $29 steak. Then when I asked for some ranch to help with this massive amount of fries, I was told "I'm sorry, but we're an organic restaurant, we don't do ranch". WHAT? I didn't even know how to respond to that so I let it go. Then as I looked at the menu, on the back in small print it says, there will be a mandatory 18% fee charged for our employees living wage. What the HELL is that. Do not FORCE me to pay a tip for bad food and bad service from employees that they underpay because they need to take vacations over seas. That was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. And because of it, the server did not get an actual tip. Normally I tip between 15% and 20% as it is, but to FORCE me to a specific amount is unacceptable. After we had left we were going over the receipt and saw that both of our steaks charged $32 rather than the listed $29... They're already ripping me off with that 18%.. Really, now their charging prices other then your menu states? That steak and fries wasn't even worth $10. Needless to say, if we do return to the Shelburne pub for drinks or food, it will not be for a very long time, and we will no longer be recommending Shelburne to friends and family. I do hope they fix their issues and maybe care a little more about their employees and pay them a livable wage rather than syphon it from their customers. Maybe then we'd get better service and food. read more

We stayed there for our 2nd honeymoon (literally . . . just married again) and had the room we had 42 years ago (now Room 11). The room now has it's own bathroom and a nice sized private deck. Because of that, it's even smaller . . . our only real complaint. Still good people and a beautiful house. read more

We booked a room at this hotel for a couple nights for our wedding anniversary (#13! There are some awesome ghost rumors and it seemed apropos) and splurged on the nicest available room-- king bed with clawfoot tub. Our trip was okay, but with little help from the hotel. * Beware getting a room facing the main street/hwy: I don't know about the other rooms on the property, but what we thought was the nicest room was directly on the hwy/main road. It was quite loud (old windows, no sound barrier) and we were delighted to be woken up both mornings by a worker at the grocery store, directly across the street, who's partner dropped them off in the loudest unmuffled car and then would circle back a few times. The second morning they got in a yelling argument. * Careful with the coffee: after being woken up I went downstairs to get coffee-- Prob about 8am-- and the coffee hadn't been refilled in the carafes since the day before. It was disgusting, but mildly comical, accidentally taking a sip of the sour, lukewarm offering. * Did I mention we were here for a romantic getaway: They were repainting the outside of the building and scraping lead-based paint during our whole stay. There was no opportunity to chill in our room or on the patio outside during the day. There was no warning this would be going on and no appropriate signage or proper containment for the lead-based paint. * Bikes: One of our primary motivators for visiting Longbeach was to take advantage of the nice bicycle paths. We ride bikes a lot (I have a few centuries under my belt) and were looking forward to riding the miles of paved paths. I called the day before to ask about bringing our own bikes. The person who answered my call (9am ish , so maybe no coffee yet?) was really short with me and told me I should leave my bikes at home because there is no room for them at the Shelburne. They said to borrow them from the sister hotel-- Adrift. When we went to borrow bikes from the Adrift, there were only a few options left and I ended up with a bike that was too big and cramped our exploring. The person at the Adrift also told us that they have bike parking and we could have brought our won and parked them there. They mentioned that the Shelburne shouldn't be actively discouraging people from bringing bikes because they don't always have enough to go around and they are well-used beach cruisers. Suggestion to the Shelburne owner-- you have a great spot for adding bike parking to your property, inside your garden area, just inside the gate. * Dinner: Given that it was our anniversary, we wanted to have a nice dinner. I asked the front desk at the Shelburne about getting a reservation at the Pickled Fish (the restaurant at the sister property, Adrift). They said we wouldn't need a reservation and to just walk in. When we arrived at the Pickled Fish, the wait was 45 min to an hour. I felt really frustrated with the front desk advice and like they should have just called ahead and made a reservation given that it's all the same owners and we were staying in their most expensive room. We decided to go back to the Shelburne for dinner. The tables were mostly full and we ended up having dinner at a decidedly unromantic spot in the lobby of the Shelburne. I felt pretty defeated. Apparently all the restaurants close on Tuesdays and these are some of the only ones open so it is good to have a reservation. The restaurant staff kindly discounted our ticket when I described what happened. Pros: The interior design at the hotel is gorgeous. The gardens are really pretty. They gave us champagne when we arrived. On their own, these things might have been "whatever" but cumulatively it was a big let down. I only asked for a few things from the front desk-- should we bring our bikes? how about dinner reservations? where is the coffee?-- and it was all meh. read more

The bed was very comfortable and we slept so well at the Inn. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and prepared and presented to us in the little dining room downstairs. It was a very generous and tasty continental breakfast with sliced meats, fresh scones, juice, coffee, fruit and cheese. More than enough! The hotel was one the main road, but still nice and quiet. Easy to get to restaurants, shops and the kite festival. We loved using the loaner bikes to pedal about the town and beach. The only downside to our stay was the internet connectivity. We could connect well in the downstairs lounge, but upstairs in our room, we were unable to connect to the free WiFi. A small inconvenience considering the charming and historic accommodations. read more

This hotel has gone way downhill in the past two years. Room wasn't ready, waited for two hours. Finally got into our two bedroom suite, that night the ceiling leaked. Every time we had an issue we had to call at least twice to get help. Would not recommend. Good value, but you're throwing the dice in terms of getting what you want read more
