The server at the pub carried my tea to my room! Wow!

Wonderful service. The woman at the front desk carried my pot of herbal tea to my room, so I could enjoy the end of the day. I got great advice about restaurants and mushroom hunting. The service is what makes this place outstanding

The Shelburne is part of the small Adrift group of hotels. It is like a large vintage home crossed with hotel amenities and good service. The one drawback is that many of the rooms get vehicle noise from Long Beach's main North-South road. Earplugs are provided. My room had a bathroom with a shower. The tile was dated but otherwise it was very presentable, including thick towels and hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They had cotton swabs and cotton balls, there was a black towel dedicated to makeup cleansing. They also have some hooded cotton-poly robes, more on that later. In addition to glass drinking glasses there are wine glasses in the room. The bedding was excellent. There is a good grocery across the street for wine, beer, and spirits. In the lobby, there are individual French presses, caf and decaf ground coffee, and tea, 24 hours. The building is trimmed with acres of clear vertical grain fir and bead board wainscoting. The history of building and moving the hotel could not be duplicated today. The overall design style is Adrift's mid-century-60s modern with Edison bulbs. My room faced the street and shared a rooftop deck with another room. The deck had two sets of folding tables and chairs. On the first floor there are several rooms with porches facing the side garden and bocce ball court. There is plenty of room inside in the lobby and the game room to chat or chill. It is about a half mile walk to the beach, or you can car or bike on 38th. The main Adrift is on the equivalent of 10th, about 1 mile. That location shares its saunas, pool, and bicycles with the Shelburne. That is a good use of the robes. Ask, of course, but the staff related that Shelburne guests would attire in their swim-sauna suits, throw on their robes, travel to the Adrift facilities, then return, informal-style. Every single employee I encountered was upbeat and happy. It's one of the finest examples of customer service I have ever seen. Shelburne is a great example of a vintage building as a hotel.

Such a cool historic spot! I didn't know what to expect going there, but the prices are fair and the lady in the hotel at the time was very helpful. There's some stuff you have to know before going here... The hallways are crooked. Probably spirits lurking about (it's funny I didn't know it was a thing here, but one of the first questions I asked was if it was haunted). They're mostly friendly though. Haha. I love that kind of stuff though so I was stoked. I didn't get to try the food or cocktails, but next time! The garden is lovely and the rooms are super simple and cute. The bathtub was lovely to relax in for my birthday. I guess some people may have complained about the street noise but I didn't notice it at all. The fan was on all night so it covered it up! Very close to the beach, but no views. My only complaints: No mini fridges, understandable though. That would take away some charm, but it made it a bit difficult for trying to store milk/leftovers (they stored some milk in their fridge for us though so that was nice). Also, our room was so stuffy and it wasn't even that warm out. Out of the 4 windows in the room, two opened (the bathroom window and the balcony door). The fan helped though! Overall, very beautiful place that I'm so glad I got to stay in! I love old stuff like this.

Feels like the best combination of a fancy restaurant and being at home. Food was amazing, again the chef beautifully combines "fancy" with rustic and I've never tasted such a wonderful combination. Truly a gem, makes my heart so happy to know I can grow old eating here, since I only live 30 min away!!! Also service was genuinely wonderful!! Thank you

Excellent food and drinks. Small, quaint, relaxed. Normal wait time for good cocktails and fine food. We would visit again.

The dank, musky smell pervading the whole building and threadbare, frayed sheets give evidence that this hotel is over 100 years old!!

You're close to the ocean, surrounded by trees, and there's this constant sense of spaciousness that lets your mind open up. It creates the perfect conditions for artists to think, feel, and make work. What makes Arts Week truly special, though, is the people. The group of artists is diverse, thoughtful, and deeply engaged. You're in conversation all day long, whether that's over shared meals, spontaneous collaborations, or late night talks that somehow become the most meaningful part of the experience. It's rare to find a space where people show up this open and this willing to connect. The programming strikes a great balance. There's structure when you want it, like readings, performances, and workshops, but also plenty of unstructured time to follow your own creative instincts. There's also a real sense of care built into the week. The staff and organizers are thoughtful and attentive, and you can feel that they want everyone there to succeed!

We thought it looked like a fun place to stay considering we love all things vintage and staying in a vintage RV sounded like the kind of nostalgia we would appreciate. A few months pass and we decided to book a 3 night trip for our 12th wedding anniversary. We arrived on Saturday afternoon right at check in and we found the staff friendly and attentive. After check in we drove down to our camp site. They leave the doors unlocked after check out/"cleaning" so the key was sitting in the unit. This also means anyone can come into your unit before you even check in. The outside of the RV was, as expected, worn down but that's a part of the charm. Upon entering, we were hit with the smell of mildew/mold and a extremely warm trailer due to the heater being left on and it being late June. We turned off the heater and attempted to open up the windows, but alas they were'nt all fuctioning. Our 3 dogs couldnt even be in the unit without over heating so we set up their playpen outside. Half the flooring was either peeling up or gone all together. The walls had'nt been cleaned and had a film on them. The seating area did'nt fold down into additional bedding (another broken item), the toilet was dirty and still had urine on it and the bathroon walls were peeling. We weren't looking for a 5 star hotel but for the price we were paying per night we expected more. We settled in for the evening and tried to make the most of it and chalk it up to a new experience. The next day, after waking up and taking the dogs for a walk to the beach we decided to relax at the campsite and decided we could set up out tent (other camp sites had tents on them) to add additional living space. As we were lying out the tent in our area a woman approached us. She didn't introduce herself just started making comments about the tent, and the dogs, and the playpen. Again, no introduction, no pleasantries, just came in HOT. My husband tried to deescalate the conversation however the woman kept interrupting him and talking over him. He reached out his hand to introduce himself and thats when she finally paused and offered her name, Mary. She let us know if we wanted to put up a tent we would need to pay an additional $35.00. We explained to her we weren't expecting additional guests and that the tent was meerely for additional outdoor space. Again, she was coming in hot like we were trying to pull a fast one over on her. I explained that no where was I told tents were additional. I was not paying them any additional money due to the price we already paid and the comfort of the unit. Mary contiously spoke to my husband ignoring me all together. She was telling him what to do and how to do it and she came off extremely aggressive. We said we would speak to management and that's when Mary let us know she was the manager but was off duty so we could take it up with another manager. My husband is a POC and Mary presented as white and while the lodging advertised itself as diverse and inclusive we did not have that experience with Mary. My husband asked Mary for some space and it took asking several repeated times for her to finally leave. After she left, we decided this was not a place for us to stay. My husband started packing and I went to let reception know what had happened and that we were checking out. The staff at reception was very accommodating. I told them what had happened and they were confused as to why a tent would be such an issue with Mary. They tried offering additional things for us to stay and I refused. They asked if I wanted to speak to Mary again, and I said no. I did not want to speak to her ever again. The staff said they would talk it over with a manager but I let them know we were definitely leaving. We drove the 2 hours home. On our anniversary with cancelled dinner reservations and hurt in our hearts. Do better. Understand how you come across as a person of privilege when speaking down to a POC. I hope this is a learning experience for Mary. I checked my email today and she refunded our entire amount.
