I've never consigned clothes here. But as a buyer I haven't had problems. They aren't friendly, but if you're looking for good service then maybe this store isn't for you... That said, I think their selection has been above average and generally all the clothes are in pretty good condition. I've found great stuff here as well as not so great stuff that I probably shouldn't have bought in the first place. Some notable things I've purchased that I love: red Marni elastic waist slacks; Theory cropped top; all saints 100% cashmere cardigan. Beautiful store, amazing curation. I bought a silky blue printed top for only $60 :). This has been haunting me however... Around 12:30p on 8/19 I overheard a woman threaten her daughter (around 9 years old). Daughter walked in saying "please stop" 3 times (mom was trying to persuade her to do something) and the mom said intensely she's going to "give her to surrogate parents". Talking about abandoning your kid as a punishment or for leverage is terrible. I should have said something to let the child know that's wrong, but I didn't. read more

If you're into labels but don't have the bank account to support your habit then Tokio 7 should be on your regular rotation. On the consignment shop scale the prices are hefty but you have to remember that the $300 Dior dress was once $2500...and thus the markdown is significant. Still, since I'm not huge into labels a $80 Vince wrap sweater is still an ill-fitting and oddly colored wrap sweater. So be picky, choose wisely and take chances in the dressing room. Their shoe selection is pretty good as well. I found some gold Tory Burch wedges for $100 that were just lovely. The stuff can be completely picked over but my friend who's a Tokio 7 regular swears they have new product each day. It's always worth a shot...and when you find that incredible Marc Jacobs sheath dress that retailed at Bloomingdales way out of your budget marked way down on a rack here, you'll thank me. read more

So I got my amazing, amazing, worn only once Louboutin Decolette 868's here for $200 - basically 70% off. These sell for at least $400 used on eBay, for a comparison. So yes, I'm thrilled about my amazing deal for these classic shoes. But, as other reviews have said, I noticed the snootiness of the employees from the minute I walked in. I had some lady watch me carefully with her eyes the entire time. While looking in the class cabinet at some bags, another lady behind the counter basically provided no service. The male who checked me out kept talking about how these items are second hand and there are no returns.... duh. I know this is a second hand store for one, and yes I understand the policies that are in effect at most consignment shops. I also wonder at the brand/designer knowledge of the workers. I saw a well-loved leather (probably faux leather, actually) W118 by Walter Baker jacket hanging for $250. That's a ridiculous price, considering NEW W118 by WB items are less than $200. Just do some research - W118 by WB and WB are NOT the same thing. I hope someone doesn't get ripped off. Fabulous East Village boutique with second-hand offerings. When you pass by a place that greets you with a life-sized Predator figure, you know you're in for some good stuff. Though Tokio 7 has nothing to do with Predator, or sci-fi, or anything of the gamer-geek persuasion that one might conjecture, the brilliant sculpture's forging from spare metal parts is a subtle but appropriate reminder of the store's nature as a consignment boutique. You're only looking at high-end luxury brands here - YSL, Ferragamo, Louboutin, etc. Unfortunately, when trying to sell to Tokyo 7, this means you are bound to be met with a gruff 'sorry' for every potential item that falls outside of this brand belt. Bottom line: tough place for selling, great place for buying around the $$$ range, for both genders but better so for women than men. read more

I have never met a more unhappy and rude bunch of workers in my entire life. They might as well be selling life insurance to the elderly. They were so careless with the customers who had questions or concerns about the clothing, they almost seemed like useless piece of furniture. in the shop It made it impossible for me to search through all of their designer pieces. I had no desire to stay in the store longer than I had to. To top it off, they refused to purchase my Calvin Klein, and DVF dresses because they claimed to have too many at the time. I looked through the first room, and I did not see any good pieces of women's apparel. I was hoping to find luxury designer brands based on the previous reviews, but absolutely none in five minutes of going through the front room of racks. I was asked to leave because they said they closed at 8. Rude. No thanks. I don't normally buy consignment, but I read previous reviews about the great stuff here. First glance, I didn't see anything good (mostly synthetic fibres and textiles which I don't like to wear). Pretty cool place to check out, overrepresented by some Japanese labels that are usually hard to find elsewhere, and stocked full of stuff. Price to quality/true value is highly variable, I tried on 5 things and ended up getting one of them. Tax is included in the price tags. Two cons: the clearly and very damaged stuff--why do you think anyone is going to buy a sweatshirt with huge coffee stains across the front or a ripped up cardigan? and the air conditioning drip from the ceiling that's probably ruining all the merchandise. The owners and store associates are watching for thieves on their security camera at the checkout desk area and discuss this in Japanese (courtesy of my friend who was there with me and speaks Japanese). I first found this place when I was walking along my neighborhood. I admit I love vintage clothes but I get a bit skittish when it comes to wearing other people's "gently used" clothing. It's not like you're borrowing your friend's dress, but you're actually trusting yourself to a stranger that you never met. I know you can wash it, but sometimes the whole idea still leaves me at bay. But I actually love coming here since it's not a huge store and you can find things easily. I am not a digger (I don't dig for gold and nor do I dig for clothes!) so coming here is for someone like me who has very little amount of patience. There are a lot of great finds here!!!! This shop is fun to walk through, but it wasn't nearly as organized as it could have been. Sizes were inconsistently hung up. It was a nice change to see true designer items all around the shop, but the tradeoff was the price tag. My favorite shop in the world. Its very organized, clean, and a large variety to shop from. They play great music and merchandise the items quite nicely. The employees and owners are probably the kindest most hardworking individuals. They have a ton of knowledge and value for the items they sell. I bought an amazing Off-White blouse for $200, a Dior bag for $180 and a Commes Des Garçons sweater for $300, and I brought my friend in who found an amazing New York designer sweater. She is hooked now too! I have no problem saving up to come here because these pieces are all very special. I work in the area and tell my customers to stop here next. The store was unfortunately looted in June but the staff was communicative and we were able to get back the few items we still had there. Nice sculpture statue of the predator outside the store and a small bench which is nice. We went in and they do a bag check if you have a backpack, but since we had purses they didn't. They got some cool patterned sneakers and detailed embroidered jackets. Some nice backpacks and a few different hats. They have many different types or clothing and accessories and the colour of the tag determines the gender the clothes are supposed to be for. I've found some pretty cool threads here and if the time is right you can even cop some of them shits at a discount. It's fairly organized and easy to peruse. I've also tried to consign some things here and they are picky as fuck. This lady looked at this calf skin leather bomber jacket I have and saw some minor discoloration and shut me down. She looked at my season-old Acne denim jacket and told me this style is not in fashion anymore. I was like, Bitch! I mean damn, she really made me feel like I was selling her some Nordstrom Rack bootleg last call bullshit. A black leather jacket and a denim jacket are not exactly trendy, they're staples. And when I see some of the other doo doo pie clown gear they do sell I can't help but feel a little mystified. So lesson learned...I come here to shop for that unexpected piece but don't even bother trying to consign my shit because it just makes me feel like I'm selling Canal Street LV to Anna Wintour. After being referred to Tokyo 7 by a good friend, I went there to sell my VERY EXPENSIVE designer clothing that I no longer wear... The person looking through my clothes tried accusing me of bringing in fake designer goods. That is insulting and not to mention completely out of line. The same buyer tried to accuse my friend of bringing in a fake Chloe bag and demanded to know where she bought it. Again, rude and out of line. If a buyer doesn't like something just say PASS instead of saying things like, "NOT DESIGNER, NO GOOD, GO TO EBAY, WHERE DID YOU BUY THAT?" This is an absolute haven for even the snootiest label snobs. Thank heavens for those trust-fund babies who have nothing better to do than to pay full retail for these sexy duds and then resell them at a fraction of the price so that I can score a fabulous deal! This was my first time in the NEW, spotless, brightly lit store, and I was amazed at how clean AND odor-free it was. (If you've ever been to the old store, you'll know what I'm talking about) Each rack was organized very neatly: In the front, there are men's and women's casual tops and denim jeans. There's a large selection of women's sunglasses and handbags... I spotted three Chanel wallets (priced around $300, which is over half off its original retail), a to-die-for white snakeskin Chanel cross-body purse/clutch at $900, vintage LV suitcase, Marc Jacobs cream quilted purse, and oodles of arm-candy goodies! In the back, there's a rack for dresses, glitzy blouses, casual tees and button downs, dress pants, dress tops, and a little cozy alcove for shoes. I spotted garments from Dries Van Noten, DVF, Elizabeth and James, Marc Jacobs, Rogan, Chloe, Helmut Lang, Theory, Gucci, Zac Posen.. all your major bigwigs. My mouth watered the gorgeous dresses, all screaming at me to pick them up and bring them home with me. Out of all the consignment stores in the LES area, Tokio 7 has the largest selection of hoity-toity designer brands... so come here if you're aching for some new duds but don't want to pay full retail (gotta love the over-privileged somehow, right?) read more

Best consignment store I've been to, bar none. If you enjoy going through all the racks, can evaluate the general quality of a piece by feeling the material/looking at the details/etc, and don't have a raging sense of self-entitlement, this is a wonderful place. Prices start around $30 and go up to $300-400, but it's all about knowing the relative value of what you're looking at. First time I visited, I walked out with a pair of $550 shoes, unworn as far as I can tell, for $140 that have been a staple item for me ever since. This is also a great place if you're on the XS-M side of sizing - unlike so many thrift/consignment stores, only a relatively small portion of their inventory is L and up. If you're polite, the staff is fine. I've chatted with the owner a couple times, and he has some interesting stories about the world of high-end consignment he's been in for the past 20-odd years if that's your kind of thing. He gets impatient if you ask to look at a bunch of sunglasses, but otherwise I've had no bad interactions going there as a buyer. Comparisons to other popular consignment stores in New York: Beacon's Closet - 1 time out of 10, you'll find a nicer item for cheaper here, but by and large the inventory is more worn, of much more uncertain quality, and far less of a deal for the price. INA - I've occasionally found items here that I'm happy to pay the jacked-up price for, but I would say the inventory at Tokio 7 is on par or better, and the price range is much more reasonable. read more

Hit and miss store but worth checking out once in a while. I go about once every two months. Usually I always find something but not always what I was planning to find. Go in with an open mind. It's Pretty much exclusively designer names so you are typically going to pay some money. Could you get the designer clothes a little cheaper on Ebay? probably... However, here you can inspect the merchandise first hand and try it on. To me that is worth the extra money. I find all the clothes in good to excellent condition. My main complaint is the sizes are not ordered particularly in men's jackets, blazers and button up shirts. Other than that there is a fairly wide selection in men's. I have to admit that I don't buy used shoes so can't comment on that selection. read more

I bought a jacket that's too big for me because I only had one day left in NY and really wanted something nice to show for my trip. It's an opening ceremony blazer with a cut out on the back. Excellent selection, great prices. Staff were not mean or snooty at all - I did mind my own business though. Predictably, only tiny people can find themselves anything on the denim rack. I'm not tiny, so alas, Acne full price.... Come here often if you want to cop something. Considering the value of the original, the condition of the secondhand item, and the sale prices (after 30 days not sold they take off 30% and then after another 15-30 days they take of 50%) I believe. Run by possibly the coolest Japanese people in habiting the city with the best taste in re-buying clothes from even cooler New York City inhabitants. Spent a pretty penny, but not as pretty as buying new. Purchased a Black Satin Graphic Print Tie Neck Diane von Furstenberg dress and Marc by Marc Jacobs printed S/S satin top for $170. I was kinda on a satin kick when I went to Tokio 7 this time. Definitely worth a visit rummaging through the racks. No worries though, this place definitely ain't no Loehmann's. You can be in and out with a bag or without one in no time at all. Hate to be the debbie downer, but the only down side is the fitting rooms. The space is super small and the doors are kinda low, so if you are tall you have to crouch like crouching tiger + hidden dragon. read more

Any shop that carries brand new Marc Jacobs skirts (that I have had my eye on and drooled over elsewhere for awhile), for a mere $50, and happens to be my size automatically gets an A in my book. They are very selective of what they choose to sell, so you can't just come in and bring anything. Most of it is high-end designer, but not only that, they select pieces with a funky or urban edge. This is what makes Tokio 7 stand out from other consignment shops. Oh, and did I mention that the prices are amazing? This is a very fun little boutique to browse through. read more

As a consignor I can't recommend Tokio 7 unless you are looking to unload higher end designer ready-to-wear. They really only want the labels you find at Barney's or Net-a-Porter. They also want the consignments to align seasonally ie fall/winter in fall/winter. Thats all fine and fair and maybe they might add some of this info to their website consignment page, because based on looking at that I was expecting it to be more playful and surprising. I noticed one of the consignors before me, who obviously had experience, was haggling up their offer price (some instances nearly double) on almost every item she gave them before agreeing, so if you do consign here don't take anything like their first offer. The proprietor was having a horrible day when I visited, he cant possibly always be that surly. Not so much shady fashion 'tude as real anger at my wasting his time. Generally the stock here is good for college kids that want LBD's and black separates with european labels. Hardly anything is really vintage, just used fairly recent midtown black. read more

This was the snobbiest, rudest, most pleased-with-themselves service (or lack thereof) I have experienced in a while. 2. When I walked in the door, I happened to catch the tail end of one of the buyers offering a woman $300 for a dress that I can only describe as a hot mess. I'm terrified to find out what he's planning on selling that thing for. I'm giving them 3 stars because it's true, this stuff is priced at less than it originally costs, of course, and there are occasionally some cute designer items for relatively affordable prices (check the jeans and the shoes). I'm also willing to admit that this store is geared toward the woman who cares a whole lot about the label, and that's just not me. I usually refrain from consignment stores because: a) fear of bedbugs b) final sale hence no return c) suspicious about the history behind the consigned product. So I stumbled upon this rather neat and odorless consignment shop because I was just curious and my curiosity took to a whole new level when I saw all of these high-end fashion labels. I'm not a label person but I am a bargain person. Unfortunately, I wouldn't call this place a bargain because some items were still well over my budget. The shoe collection was pretty impressive (ie. Chanel, Givenchy, Louboutin) but some look rather beat up. Why would I buy a used pair of heels for $180 when I can buy 3 brand new ones with that amount of money? I am surprised that I haven't written a post about one of my favorite consignment shops in the city...until now. I'm rather taken back after reading so many negative postings on Tokio 7, whether it's over priced, unreasonable staff, or unaccommodating changing rooms. I have nothing but great experiences here, and that isn't coming from a person who is easy to please. In a cash strapped economy, I personally have taken a few of last season's pieces from Marc Jacobs and Tracy Reese here, and the turnaround has been great! I went in yesterday to pick up the cash I "made" off a resort Marc by Marc dress, and found in the $10 bin, a cute and nifty army green tonic that is perfect for the summer. (I shouldn't be spending anyways...). There always seems to be more sale items than full price, (which is good), and the quality is amazing. Chanel jackets for $200? Burberry runway coats for $300 (originally $1500)? WTF. Designer mecca. They take credit card or cash, and when they pay you for your goods, they give you back the GREEN. I highly recommend this hidden East Village Gem. BTW...for all the yelpers who posted about lack of customer service...if you want customer service, you pay for it. Go to barneys or BG if you want attention, but for the young urban working professional (who seems to be underpaid..but who's complaining), I rather get the goods for $ versus $$$. read more

I love this place. My wallet hates that I live so close. Amazing assortment of just about everything. Great brands like DVF, Wang, Vince, Rag & Bone, etc, etc. I've purchased pants, dresses, blouses and shirts from here and have been really happy with the quality and price I've paid for each. No, it's not Buffalo Exchange, so you aren't going to find stuff for $20. You're paying for good stuff. I wish the shoes were a little better organized. I honestly can't remember finding a shoe in my size. I get sad that every shoe I love is a size 6 (hate you if that's your shoe size because you get all the best shit).
