I was out with a friend doing some stuff and we happened to be right near by. Both of us had been to Cure before but not in a while. We happened to get lucky and be there on a 50% off sale day. I bought a really pretty vintage blouse from Bergdorf Goodman - I liked it a lot when I tried it on but I noticed that it was missing a button. I mentioned it to one of their desk staff and she brought over another staff member who she said was great with buttons. They offered to replace some other buttons that were getting a little loose if I wanted to wait. I thought that was a really nice service and not something that you find too much. I also noticed while browsing around that they have some really beautiful coats and purses. Agree with others that this store is pretty upscale and not quite inexpensive enough to be a true "thrift shop", but it does seem a good place to shop and potentially get some great finds. This is a fancy, quite expensive boutique selling highly curated mostly secondhand items. It's pretty, there are some nice things. But be aware that it is not a thrift store. Nothing's a bargain, all the work has already been done. That's fine but it's not at all a "thrift" shopping opportunity. Recently, I visited the cure thrift shop. I got a bracelet for 9$. They provided jewelry pliers for customers. Customers have the option to create their own bracelets and select their preferred charms. I opted for pink charms on a silver chain. It was an absolutely adorable experience! I suggest trying to make chain necklaces too, chains usually cost around 2-3$ each. Charms currently cost $1 each. It is super affordable and great for the value. I'm eager for them to replenish their stock of initials and horoscope charms. I'm so excited to return! read more

Cure Thrift Shop is a vintage shop that is so well curated and merchandised that the high prices are somewhat forgivable. normally peruse through vintage Ts here bc they are unique and in decent condition. over the years, i have picked up several items here and have yet to be disappointed. the store is well-maintained, clean, brightly lit, and has a bit of character in the way merchandise is organized. all that said, the prices do bend to the higher ends of things BUT there are periodic sales so be patient. tchotchkes tend to be decently priced bc they are eclectic for those looking for interesting decor items. some of the staff are cool. others are meh. that's the story of all retail. avoid the store on weekends as it can be a circus but the store is open relatively late for a thrift store which is a good time to swing through...a win for the nocturnal like me. read more

Got this place recommended to me by a friend who shared their Harper's Bazaar feature. I'm all in for an antique-y/vintage thrift store moment! And this place gives it just that. The prices are definitely on the higher side but I will give them the fact that this location is a carefully crafted experience. Every piece feels intentionally placed, which was cool to experience. Loved making my own charm bracelet! Went on a weekday around noon and it was nice and empty. Great selection of charms plus you can make necklaces and earrings too. All charms are $1 each and the blank chains for bracelets or necklaces are $3. All the supplies you need are there. Only downside is there are no chairs! So be prepared to kneel or stand while you make your jewelry. I took about 45 mins and i felt fine kneeling though. The store itself seemed nice too but I did not look in depth really. Overall a great time and chill ambiance! Highly recommend if DIY jewelry is your thing plus it's so cheap! read more

It is beautiful here and I loved the vibe but it was just really expensive for everything. I did love all the pieces they had but left without buying because I felt it was overpriced and have found similar in other thrift stores for way less. But I guess because of the location they do have a lot of rent to pay so I get it. I just wish they had a section that was lower priced. Cause I even saw a beat up pleather purse for like $80. I am so glad this place is still around, I love it. They have an excellent selection of clothes you actually want to wear, from vintage to modern, at all price points. Their shoe selection has some really unique items too. I also love their furniture and knick knacks - some things are priced a bit high but you can haggle and in the end, a two story second hand shop in this neighborhood needs to thrive somehow. Taking that into account I think the prices are pretty reasonable. while i was able to pick-up some sweet finds here, i would say my experience wasn't the most pleasurable one. felt like the employees here were watching me out of the corners of their eyes liked hawks while i was shopping around. no one was particularly friendly to me except for my cashier..maybe they have a shoplifting problem here and have to be vigilant, but after reading reviews and seeing other people reiterating the same idea, it seems like a problem that needs to be addressed. prices of some things seemed unnecessarily expensive for what they were. they had some older but not vintage collegiate apparel that was overblown in price. was able to find a nice pair of light pleated trousers for under $40, which i thought was a good deal. great selection of rings here also, although i feel like $28/per was a little pricey, especially at a thrift store. a trend i noticed from here to the bay is that NY pieces tend to be more expensive with minimal differences. maybe i'm biased to the bay, but have found way better deals here for high quality vintage shirts here compared to nyc, don't even compare a top-tier shopping place like LA also. while i might come back next time, i will probably cut to the point and make it quick. which sucks, because i view thrifting as a nice way to relax and take my time to really discover and find great gem pieces for affordable costs. read more

I had a somewhat odd experience shopping here. The shop seems to be a far cry from when they were located on one of the side streets (12th? 13th? I can't remember..). This vibe is much more curated, which was lovely to shop, but holy moly - the pricing was astronomical for something called thrift. I understand it's for a good cause, but a single piece of pottery/stoneware was anywhere upwards of $100-$150. Some of the artwork was priced in the $1000s. It really is a curated vintage boutique.. not "thrift" as the name would suggest. I got some weird vibes from one of the sales associates: A young, dark haired guy with a mustache that works there was leaning against one of the poles and I saw him sort of staring, so I said hello and he rolled his eyes and walked away. I find it telling that I was in this shop Saturday afternoon and it was packed, yet there were no people purchasing the entire 40 minutes I was here. The prices here are not only high, they are laughable. Items that would cost $10 at Goodwill or another thrift shop, cost $100 here. Beat-up, torn boots with no sole traction and flaking polyester coating cost $80. They're not vintage or cool in any way, so what's to justify this price? Costume earrings from the 90's were $50. A spray-painted statue with a messy glue-repaired hat $225. Belts that any other thrift shop would charge $2 - $5 cost $60-$80 here. Beat-up hat with a broken trim $70. This hat probably cost $30 new. Cure sells many items that most people would throw away or other thrift stores would sell in the clearance bin for $1. I saw a beat-up book, that I know to still be in print because I know the author, with a list price of $24.95, and a $35 price on it. You're not in a tourist area, so why would someone buy this? You can't charge more than retail on used items when they have no vintage value. You can't sell inexpensive retail (ie Banana Republic, Uniqlo, etc) clothes for 3x retail and expect sales to reflect your foot traffic. The sales conversion rate here is so low the owner would be fired from any retail store. What's especially telling is the way the owner has responded to criticism here. She's quick to whine that her rent is high and she has staff to pay. Why be rude to customers? Why not listen to the criticism and learn from it? Why have 2 staff behind the counter when they're standing around because nobody is getting rung up? How about not having staff standing in the back of the store doing nothing but ignoring customer complaints about the outrageous prices? She did a great job of pretending she didn't hear people's constant laughs and shocked reactions to insane price tags. Staff don't want to hear complaints all day long. This store is going to have a high turnover. Liz, you need to adjust your business plan. Most people don't mind paying a premium if some is going to charity. But this is not your old location, where I shopped and spent money frequently. You can't move to an avenue location twice the size of your old store and simply raise your prices by the percentage that your rent increased. Customers don't care how much your rent is, so shut up. You claim in one rant here that your sales doubled since moving. Oh my! Don't you get it? Your sales need to octuple at the least! Make some business adjustments or move back to your old location so you can actually run your store properly without pissing off customers constantly. Or close. read more

I understand that this is a wonderful cause however... The clothing is just ridiculously overpriced. Some of it is not even in decent, sale worthy condition. You're better off making a donation directly to the charity. Buyer beware of the used clothing. Why sell it if it's not wearable? It made me a bit sad that two of the sales associates followed and stared at me the entire time I was in the store. We thought maybe they had a work policy where they do that to all the customers, but as more customers came in, my husband and I realized that it was just me. I'm hoping it wasn't racially charged (I was the only black woman in the store) but it got to the point where the associates just stood and stared at me while I shopped. You can feel good about the money you spend here because 100% OF THE PROFITS GO TO CHARITIES--distributed among three, which I forgot the name of. Plus the goodies are super special and beautiful. Lots of amazing vases. Next time you bring someone flowers, stop in here and pick up a rad vase for them to sit in. Why not? So many gorgeous, unique treasures. The worker bees here are super friendly and helpful, too--unique for New York!! And you can tell they work hard to keep the shop clean and tidy. It's all perfectly organized and smells a-okay (NOT mothy). The goods here are super primo--especially the art and the housewares. Legit New York finds. They have so much clothing I didn't have a chance to dig in, but I will be back. They seem to have a lot of kitchen stuff (glasses, pots, etc.) so next time you need something, stop in here before going to a lame big box store. Get in there! Oh, and it feels like whenever I walk in the guy behind the counter is announcing a sale. Awesome. P.S. Just read the other reviews that say this place is pricey. It's a HUGE store, right off Union Square. I'm sure they have high overhead costs. Plus they have really nice stuff--AND THEY KNOW IT, so it's priced accordingly.
