A Rep took a couple of us out for lunch and we decided to try this place. The Lunch menu is amazingly priced (not that we were paying anyways) with a pretty good selection. I was a little worried about how long the lunch might last with it being a Hibachi place. However, we ordered and finished eating within 45 minutes of arriving. The lunch food was really, really good for the price(I got the filet steak Hibachi). The interior was very clean and classy. This place is definitely worth a try for Lunch. I really hope this place sticks around for awhile. I've been here, maybe 3 times and we love it. Haven't had the oppurtunity to sit around the hibachi grill; we've only sat at the bar so far. The service is remarkable. Very friendly. I'm a huge fan of the sushi and husband loves the beer specials on Monday and Tuesdays. Excellent meat quality is a must for me and Tokugawa does not disappoint! My staple dish is the filet and chicken combo. Hands down the best salad dressing, onion and mushroom soup appetizer, meat and sauces of any Japanese steakhouse I've patronized! We eat here almost weekly! Also very friendly attentive servers! My group of 10 ate lunch at a Hibachi table, and everyone was very happy with the value they got from a Hibachi chef "show" to the very tasty food, in a beautiful atmosphere (love the colored bubble water partition walls). The chef was friendly and fun, and food from salads to sauce to entrees was very good. The waitress did an excellent job of keeping our food orders straight, even with several people having food allergies, and she refilled drinks promptly and with a friendly manner. A full hibachi table seats 20, so we were at half a table, but they do have a larger size table I believe. They even do the Hibachi "show" for as few as 2 customers! Sushi is made in view, on the other side of the restaurant, but available to eat at the Hibachi table too. read more

We loved Tokugawa! Our kiddos love hibachi restaurants. We were very impressed with our visit on Friday. Service was great! All the way from calling for a reservation (which I def recommend) to the hostesses, waitress and chef. Our food was great, too. We also had some virgin and non virgin drinks which were yummy. For our appetizer, we ordered their version of jalapeno poppers and they were so good. They were a cross between spicy sushi roll and a popper. Delicious! My hubs, myself and 2 of our 3 kids ordered hibachi and my son ordered the Udon Noodle bowl. I had steak and scallop. Scallops were a good size and so delicious! My hubs had steak and shrimp. After waiting over and hour for a 15 min wait time was disappointing to say the least. Several others who arrived long after us were being seated right away. The two kids taking seating orders sat out front with their feet propped on the desk acted like they didn't know what was going on. Not professional at all. To break this down, overall the food was great, but the service was pretty terrible. My family and I go in for hibachi , and the restaurant was fairly busy. Which wasn't a big deal, however there were two of the big 'U' shaped tables that were empty. The hostess offered to buss one off so we could be seated. 20 minutes go by with the most slowest movement possible to clear a table you'd ever see. She with help, did manage to clear off one and a half tables. It was another 10 minutes before we got a drink order, again not huge.. but only the start of this adventure. More time passes and 4 young ladies were seated across from us, who were waiting for the rest of their party. After another 10 minutes or so, a waiter comes up to me and my family to state the rest of that party isn't expected to arrive for about another 20 minutes and suggested we move tables. - kind of would been nice to know 20 minutes prior. Also, to add why were they even seated if their party wasn't even all there to begin with? Previously mentioned how one half of one table was cleaned off, which is where we ended up moving to. The other side hadn't been touched the entire time we were there, and my son literally had piles of dirty dishes piled up next to him due to this. In addition, did the waiter not even ONCE, come by to clear our soup and salad bowls. So we just ended up placing our dishes toward that side of the table. After that it went well enough, the show that the cook put on was great, and kept everyone engaged and like stated before, tasted great! When it comes to hibachi, we typically tip the cook in person before he leaves the table since, he basically does all of the work prepping and cooking. By this time, mind you, the actual waiter hadn't come around very often, didn't offer chop sticks for the order of sushi, and overall wasn't really giving off good vibes. So even spite that, when it came to paying the check, we still gave $10 to him for the minimal he did, basically tossing refills every so often. As my wife was leaving the table the waiter had the audacity to stop her and demand the 18% gratuity. This blew our minds. Firstly, we already gave the cook some, who earned it WAY MORE than he did, and secondly, tip is NOT required and is based on SERVICE. I don't care if the bill was $1000, if you present yourself in that manner, and our experience wasn't all that great. You will receive what you get. And in this case, wouldn't be anymore than that. The waiter continued to haggle her, saying "in the future, don't tip the cooks due to their tips being given out at the end of the shift." That's exactly why we give the tip directly to the cook. He deserves WAY more than the guy who filled my drink once. To summarize again, terrible wait, service was mediocre at BEST, food was good. Don't pester me for a tip that is not mandatory. Work harder and be nicer and you'd get more. read more

I'm not sure how I just found out about this gem! Soooo good! They serve a ton of food, and it was delicious. They don't offer much for kids (just hibachi), so I suggest making alternate plans for little ones (we fed my kids before going). I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately that didn't happen. We were seated at a hibachi table, when ordering we explained to the waitress my seafood allergy. Before the chef began his show he verified our orders and confirmed my seafood allergy. He cooked chicken, steak, veggies and rice. After he served us the fried rice, he was focusing on cooking the steak and chicken, he then told me he was going to cook the shrimp on the right side of the grill while cooking the other stuff on the left and there would be no contamination. I advised him that contamination would happen and that I would advise against doing so unless he wanted me to have a reaction. He looked puzzled and seemed a bit put off by having to wait. I think that a conversation with the chefs should be had to avoid these situations in the future. Overall, the food was ok, the fried rice lacked flavor. Can't say that we will be back. read more

Finally made it down to the new restaurant close to home. I always tend to be on the safe side when ordering sushi or sashimi. I get more adventurous when I know more about a place. So we got hibachi. We were not offered chopsticks. May seem silly but that means something to us. Server was confused but that's to be expected since they just opened. Salad was doused in dressing and the dressing was Mayonnaise based. Normally Authentic Japanese dressing is made with soy, carrot ginger and sesame oil. The salad was room temperature. Chicken was bland. Shrimp and scallops were good. They taste like farm raised. Ginger sauce was great. My neighbor had sushi and the fish appeared to be dry. Salmon looked like farm raised. The wasabi was not real. Wasabi is what kills bacteria when you eat raw fish. The chef did a nice job. Over all I would order Hibachi again with scallops and Shrimp. read more

Waiting staff is very friendly, but they are understaffed right now. So waits for drinks and orders might be long, plan accordingly. We had a great date night at Tokugawa. We were excited for this new restaurant to arrive in the Milford area and pleased that it was a great experience all around. The family on a Saturday night chose sushi and apps instead of hibachi. If you want to order from a traditional Asian menu, they can seat you on the non-hibachi side of the restaurant. The spring rolls and pork dumplings were awesome. The sushi rolls were fresh, delicious, and good proportions. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because the service was a bit inattentive due to the fact they were busy. Be sure to use the coupons in the REACH coupon magazine. Will be back soon. The remodel spared no expense! The fountains and lighting are beautiful. And in all fairness we went on their 2nd weekend after opening,and they were SWAMPED! i wish i could give negative stars. came in w my friend for some sushi, my friend ordered two shrimp tempura thinking there wasn't gonna be any cucumber. comes out with cucumber! on their menu they don't have what comes on the sushi roll. that's on them. i asked if they could send it back and remake it without cucumber and he straight just said no and walked away with no suggestions on what to do. so my friend didn't get to eat. poor service poor serving. very disappointed. and when we asked to remake it the guy that makes it gave me a dirty look. ridiculous. read more
