the interior of a japanese restaurant

The self declared owner of Tokyo Cafe claimed to be too busy to serve me and my friend, after we were sat down in her empty restaurant. When I asked why, she said to get out of her restaurant and that she could refuse service to anyone because she is the business owner. She was so hostile that I felt as though she was gearing up to do something really racist so I took my phone out and began recording. I will be uploading the video to youtube. My friend has experienced this type of treatment all over Westwood unfortunately. Being a black man in Westwood NJ is not easy unfortunately. If you believe Black Lives Matter, don't patron this restaurant. Boycott Tokyo Cafe for not being stigma free and for refusing to serve black people. #BlackLivesMatter

Vegetarians!! This place a delightful selection of veggie sushi for you! It's not the most extensive menu but it has about 12 options on their menu. Locally this is a solid spot! There are some veggie Thai options here as well but I didn't try them. There is metered parking around Westwood and the cafe is more on the periphery so you'll find a spot fairly easily. The cafe has a cute interior w/ entertaining paintings, colorful pillows and dark wood furniture. I had the lunch special- the salad had a lovely ginger dressing and two veggie rolls; avocado cucumber & Kampyo (squash) Roll. I couldn't resist and ordered an additional Oshinko (radish) Roll. My friend had the wasbi roll and something else that I can't recall - but we both really enjoyed the meal! PS. Beyond Sushi in nyc is still the absolute best for vegans and vegetarians who enjoy eating sushi! But North Jersey wise Tokyo Cafe is decent spot to satisfy your craving.

The sushi is always fresh! The soups are awesome, the Thai selection you can't go wrong, and my personal favorite is the mango chicken!

Every dish hit the table hot and quickly without feeling rushed, which I always appreciate. Great casual lunch or dinner spot! Catch up with friends or enjoy a lowkey dinner without feeling rushed or overly formal Also love that this spot is BYOB. I paired my meal with a Thai iced tea -- flavorful and refreshing, just not overly sweet (which some people might actually prefer). Appetizers: The curry puffs were delicious -- flaky, flavorful, but I definitely wished there were more than three. Chicken satay was well executed, but the honey ribs completely stole the spotlight. Super tender, flavorful, and easily the must-order on the starter list. Entrees: We ordered the deep fried filet snapper (with white rice) and the chicken Khao Soi. The Khao Soi was the standout of the night -- perfectly cooked noodles and a rich, coconut curry broth that was easily 10/10. The snapper was fried beautifully, and the mixed vegetables tasted incredibly fresh and bright -- almost ceviche-like in flavor. Portions were satisfying enough that I had zero room for dessert, but this is absolutely a spot I'd come back to explore more of the menu.

The food we ordered ranged from noodles to rice to curry to several apps across veg and non-veg. It was pretty solid, missing spice in some dishes but still decent. Four of us visited last night and noticed we were almost the only non-Asians in the place, that tells you it's authentic! We have never had a bad dish and this visit met all expectations. Thai flavors are always exceptional even if you are not a hot spice fan (like me). Three of us started with the Tom Kha Soup, perfect for cold night. Coconut broth with yummy veggies and just the right spices (Galangal is so unique). Shrimp or chicken added is very nice. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice which sounds boring for a main, but it's full of chicken, shrimp, and other flavorful goodies. We sometimes share as an app, but my favorite so must have one way or another. My son has the Duck Curry which was massive, very tender, almost no fat. He took on level 4 spice, not for me but I tried it, wow. The Masaman curry is always a big hit, daughter said it was great once again. Wife had Green Curry with Shrimp, "creamy with crisp vegetables, very good". Servers all seem to be family, and I believe most are. They all treat you with respect and the true care which adds to a nice experience. Ambiance is warm and nice, great spot for table talk. Prices are fair, and yes, they are still BYO! Keep up the great work!!

We definitely had a five star experience this evening…read more No surprises, delicious food, friendly service. Everything really tasted great. I ventured a bit today and tried something new - the Tiger Cries specialty. It's marinated and grilled steak served over veggies in a tasty garlic sauce. The steak had good char flavor, complimenting the marinade. I also asked for a chili dipping sauce, which really enhanced the dish. The huge assortment of fresh veggies made it complete for me. Some rice on the side. Really great dish! My son got the Thai fried rice with chicken. Huge platter!! He's a teenager and couldn't even finish it. Beef satay appetizer - always tasty. Duck with chili basil, duck in curry, both also delicious. Plus, you just can't beat the bottles of imported Thai beer for $6. Again, really great dinner. I knew they charge a credit card fee now so I brought cash. Good thing...cause there was a sign on the door upon arrival that said they can only accept cash and Zelle today! ‍

Makes me upset it took me this long to drop by! Wontons were more like Shumai but no complaints, curry puffs tasted like it was from an Indian restaurant which only means the taste was on point. The chive dumplings?! Bro... don't sleep on these!! They were so effin gooood! YES SO DAMN GOOD. Green curry is always my favorite and I'm glad they didn't disappoint. Broth was spicy, sweet and creamy. Salmon was cooked perfectly and portion size pretty big. Drunken noodles had a nice chew to them, def wasn't over cooked. I would go back just for the damn chive dumplings lol ok maybe a few orders of them! Haha GIVE THEM A TRY!

If you do dine here, I suggest skipping the appetizers and going straight to the main course options. Regarding the apps, the duck pancake was actually in a green wrap (which seemed odd) and the sauce overpowered the bits of duck inside. The spring rolls were large and had what looked to be alternative meat or something with similar consistency and didn't seem overall that fresh. The fried spring rolls were "ok." The best thing was the pad prik with veggies and tofu which wasn't oily but also didn't feel like it was amazing. It appears you can order online when they're open which is a plus if you hate using the phone. I'll leave the caveat that I'm not a Thai food connoisseur but usually enjoy it. I wish that I felt more positive since it's a small business! Maybe I'd give them another chance if I was eating in the restaurant. Metered street parking and doesn't seem too hard to find parking.
