Taro Custard Cake with Coconut Sticky Rice was a tasty dessert!
Edward K.

One of those places I was surprised to see I hadn't reviewed previously. Have definitely had it 3-5 times over the years. Have come to the realization that they are consistently really good. We did takeout tonight, they had the food done 15 minutes early. Pickup was easy in the rather small restaurant. Dining area is cute, would certainly sit there. We had pork ribs, papaya salad, and corn fritters for the appetizers. All were excellent. I went with mild this time because medium was bringing a bit of heat last time. Probably somewhere between the two would be just right. My wife had sriracha fried rice and I had Massaman curry for the entrees. We both loved them, served really hot, even after driving them home and eating the appetizers first. Not going to lie, I drank the rest of the curry sauce like a soup! Hearty portion of chicken, potatoes and carrots in a delicious sauce! Had the taro cake and sticky rice for dessert, nice flavor combo!

Pad Thai with Shrimp

The owner was very accommodating and very nice. Tiny little place, not a lot of seating and it was cold inside for some reason. The service was great! My wife had Tom Yum, which she enjoyed. I had Pad Thai with shrimp, it was good and a generous serving, but a bit sweet.

Awesome!

Glad I have a local client that enjoys Thai food as much as I do! Ordered lunch for 12 again. Emmy and crew do a great job of preparing fresh and tasty food at reasonable prices! Spicy level is from 1-5 and they follow it! Ordered spicy level 3 today, and it packed a good punch! I've heard level 5 is incindiary! Can't wait to go back!

The food was so delicious and the staff is very friendly!! the atmosphere was also warm and cozy. Make sure to get some of their yummy appetizer. The onion pancakes and crab rangoon were delicious.

This has to be the worst Thai food I've ever eaten. I happened to be in the area and chose this Thai spot based on other reviews. I got the honey bee chicken and shrimp pad Thai. Chicken had an odd flavor... the yuzu just does not work on this. It's like they tossed it in a concentrated syrup without much thought. Their garlic fried rice, flavorless. Overall it was just a sugary soggy chicken that made you wonder why they would even make such a dish... As for the shrimp pad thai, it was also very bland and flavorless. It blows my mind that a Thai restaurant could serve pad thai that tastes so bad. Normally if we get a bad takeout joint, we would still eat it but not this place. The pictures you see are what we're throwing away. Not sure if this is the standard of what a "good" Thai place in this area but this was a very disappointing experience. For both of these during lunch special, it was $26.55.

Ordered from Chok Dee again to try some of their other dishes. This time I got a Pad Woon Sen (Glass Noodle), Crispy Duck Tamarind, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Curry Pineapple Fried Rice, and Three Musketeers Salad. All were pretty good except for the glass noodle. It was just ok, but not as good as the Pad See Ew.

Every dish hit the table hot and quickly without feeling rushed, which I always appreciate. Great casual lunch or dinner spot! Catch up with friends or enjoy a lowkey dinner without feeling rushed or overly formal Also love that this spot is BYOB. I paired my meal with a Thai iced tea -- flavorful and refreshing, just not overly sweet (which some people might actually prefer). Appetizers: The curry puffs were delicious -- flaky, flavorful, but I definitely wished there were more than three. Chicken satay was well executed, but the honey ribs completely stole the spotlight. Super tender, flavorful, and easily the must-order on the starter list. Entrees: We ordered the deep fried filet snapper (with white rice) and the chicken Khao Soi. The Khao Soi was the standout of the night -- perfectly cooked noodles and a rich, coconut curry broth that was easily 10/10. The snapper was fried beautifully, and the mixed vegetables tasted incredibly fresh and bright -- almost ceviche-like in flavor. Portions were satisfying enough that I had zero room for dessert, but this is absolutely a spot I'd come back to explore more of the menu.

We ordered beef satay, Thai fried rice, duck chili basil, and chicken red curry. I also had a bowl of Tom Yum soup, which was excellent -- fresh ingredients, tasty, spicy, and refreshing. Everything was flavorful and well prepared as usual. We also had a bottle of Singha beer and Thai green iced tea -- both great, and the imported Thai beer here is still very reasonably priced at $5.95. The restaurant was busy during our visit, which is usually a good sign. A couple things caught us off guard this time. We asked for shrimp crackers to snack on before the food arrived -- something they used to give complimentary -- and later noticed a $5 charge for them on the bill. There was also a 3% credit card fee added with no mention of it beforehand. If costs are rising and adjustments are needed, that's understandable. Just be transparent about it so customers aren't surprised when the bill arrives. The food itself was still very good, but the unexpected charges took a little shine off the experience this time.

Four of us visited last night and noticed we were almost the only non-Asians in the place, that tells you it's authentic! We have never had a bad dish and this visit met all expectations. Thai flavors are always exceptional even if you are not a hot spice fan (like me). Three of us started with the Tom Kha Soup, perfect for cold night. Coconut broth with yummy veggies and just the right spices (Galangal is so unique). Shrimp or chicken added is very nice. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice which sounds boring for a main, but it's full of chicken, shrimp, and other flavorful goodies. We sometimes share as an app, but my favorite so must have one way or another. My son has the Duck Curry which was massive, very tender, almost no fat. He took on level 4 spice, not for me but I tried it, wow. The Masaman curry is always a big hit, daughter said it was great once again. Wife had Green Curry with Shrimp, "creamy with crisp vegetables, very good". Servers all seem to be family, and I believe most are. They all treat you with respect and the true care which adds to a nice experience. Ambiance is warm and nice, great spot for table talk. Prices are fair, and yes, they are still BYO! Keep up the great work!!

Food-wise you'll find most of the typical Thai restaurant dishes. I like to start with their spring rolls, which are fried crispy and done very well here. I've tried a few of their entrees, and unlike other Thai restaurants where I typically gravitate towards the curries or basil sauce based dishes, those didn't have as much flavor as I expected. What I did find myself enjoying was their fried rice and pad thai noodle dishes, so those would be my recommendations if you're visiting the first time and not sure what to get. I'll add a nice plus is that takeout doesn't cause as much loss in food quality as other places.

But when it comes to Thai food, there's just two, and Khao Thai is one of them. Inside, the space is fairly large but it's kept relatively quiet and intimate with lots of two-tops. Our crispy calamari appetizer was a bit of a letdown. While hot and crispy, they seemed to have been breaded and fried as clumps. Even the accompanying sweet chili sauce couldn't mask that tough, rubbery texture. Entrees fared just a little better. My pad see ew was a little bland but perked up with some chili sauce dribbled over the plate by the spoonful. I chose beef as my protein and while there weren't a ton of beef pieces, the few I had were wonderfully tender. Service was friendly and lovely. Our server (who I also assume is the owner) welcomed us warmly and was quick to check on us. I was endeared by the owner's young daughter who came by to help and made sure all our water glasses stayed filled. I know we're riding the giant inflation wave, but the serving size felt a little paltry for the prices. Even after an appetizer and two entrees, we both had enough stomach space after dinner to fill up with nuggets at a nearby fast food restaurant.

The waitress wasn't rude but she didn't come back after bringing the food. Another person, maybe the manager or owner (and adult whereas the waitress was a teen or very early 20s) came out and never even spoke to or looked toward our table. I guess if I was desperate for Thai and nothing else was available I might try again but I'm not. I don't plan to return. The pad Thai is very one note which is the opposite of what makes Thai food amazing to begin with.
