    Expensive Miso now!!!
    Ray S.

Hi price Miso means no miso soup in my family. Is there better place to buy miso now?

I can't remember the last time I browsed a grocery store so slowly to analyze all their merchandise they way I did here. From entry to exit my eyes were locked in on their unique pre packed cold and hot entrees, premier selection of espresso/ liquor drinks, and their tasty snack selection. Having just had dinner close by, I was still sold on filling up my cart for more treats to try later. Some of my picks included a cold strawberry cream puff hot dog styled dessert from their cold pre packed food section, some espresso drinks, a 6 pack of mixed Hawaiin sun drinks, and a few other hits. I'd love coming back to continue to explore as it certainly felt like an immersive introduction to Japanese grocery. I loved their organization, service, and product presentation. Can't wait to return!

Tokyo Central feels like stepping into a dimension that teleports you straight to Japan! They carry almost every product imaginable from imported rice to sashimi grade fresh fish, and I was able to find a unique sesame mayo sauce that I've been hunting for forever! They also had my favorite fun snack, the pizza flavored Calbee brand pizza chips. The experience is just as good as the selection, they were giving out tons of free samples like super sour Japanese gummy's, sweet strawberries and grilled beef. If you're hungry, there's a food court on the first floor that serves Japanese curry, dumplings, and other goodies as well as as they sit down sushi restaurant located upstairs. you could spend an entire day here eating and exploring. My only critique was that the cashier was incredibly slow. She seemed to be scanning each item in slow motion and would pause several times to simply gaze into the distance as if thinking deep thoughts. Another thing was that it was very, very crowded. There were moments where I felt a little overwhelmed with how many people were around me. I recommend coming on a weekday on a slow morning, other than that I will definitely be returning!

Who would have thought you could find such solid sushi inside a supermarket? I decided to give it a try and ended up being really impressed. Everything looked incredibly fresh, and you can actually see the sushi chefs preparing the rolls right there, which makes a big difference. The fish tasted clean and fresh, the rice was nicely seasoned, and the rolls were put together with care. They also offer 20% off sushi after 5pm, which makes it an even better reason to stop by. It's a great option when you're already grocery shopping but want something quick, fresh, and satisfying without paying full restaurant prices. What stood out most was the attention and consistency from the sushi chefs behind the counter. They kept everything stocked with freshly made rolls and clearly take pride in what they're serving. Definitely a great little find. If you're in the store and craving sushi, this spot is absolutely worth grabbing a roll or two.

This place isn't that close by so when I go here I grab alot of things to last me till the next visit. I wish they had one closer to SF Valley. Mitsuwa is the next closest thing but Tokyo Central is my go to. You can find a lot of good quality or close to authentic products from Japan. Enployees don't really bother you until you go to the section they work and they greet you. Great place , very inviting , lots of products and variety. When you get inside you gotta plan what you want cause there's a lot of distractions. High recommend this place.

They have everything Japanese from candy, snacks, ramen, alcohol, home items, beauty products. You name it they probably got it. You can't help but throw things in your cart so you can try it. We were looking for a specific sake and we definitely found it here. But walked away with so much more. We went late at night so a lot of the prepared to go hot foods were gone but they have a sushi restaurant on the second floor.

This Tokyo Central was a lot bigger than the previous one I visited. I honestly believe Bakersfield needs something like this. I would be a frequent visitor if we had a Tokyo Central. This is basically a Japanese grocery store; however, they carry other Asian products as well. If you have never visited a Tokyo Central then you need to go. There's just so much that you want to grab and buy as soon as you walk in. They literally have super low priced already made food items. They have so much to choose from just from the already cooked items that it gets pretty overwhelming since there's just so much to choose. That's not all! They have tons of other things. From noodles, to 15 different kinds of sake, to so many different cuts of meat, to fresh Asian produce, different Asian snacks and so much more. If you're like me and come from a place that doesn't have a big Asian store like this, you're gonna be super overwhelmed and want to buy everything.

This place is so much fun! We stopped by during our LA trip and had a great time browsing. I loved that they sell Japanese Coke that's known for helping with digestion and dieting. They also had a great selection of New Year's items, along with ready to eat food and many others. The store was clean and well organized, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was an enjoyable stop and definitely worth checking out.

On today's visit, unfortunately the lack of service at checkout is waning. They do not bag your groceries. They just hand you the bag and you end up bagging your own groceries. There is a wide selection of items, but it seems like the service is starting to be less than excellent. The ambience is still good. The assortment is great. I wish they would just talk to their checks out clerks that they also need to bag our groceries. That's part of their job, isn't it?

This is my favorite Tokyo Central location and I've been coming here since I discovered its many years ago. The store is always clean and well stocked, and the employees are friendly. This store has a lot of traffic so I never had to worry about expired items like certain other locations. My favorite things to get here are their premium beef and a specific sesame oil that only they carry. Ample parking in a large lot.

    One of my favorites!

This is a nice market in Gardena which has been at this location as long as I can remember. What I like most is being able to buy local Hawaiian food items such as Portuguese sausage and Lau Lau's. Although prices are double what I would pay when in Honolulu, I understand that shipping these items over can be expensive. They also have a nice selection of mochi and produce is varied and fresh. There's also a meat and seafood section. Take out sushi is freshly made, and are discounted before closing. Upstairs is Waka Sakura, a fairly newer restaurant which serves sushi and other small plate items. We've been there a number of times and enjoyed their selections.

We came here in the morning and it wasn't too crowded. The store is quite big at 45,000 square feet. There is a sushi restaurant upstairs and a small food court. I wanted to eat at the food court, but they didn't open until later in the day. Bummer. We grabbed some sushi to snack on instead. There is a variety of packaged options.

    Tamara T.

I was visiting family close by and needed to pick up some mochi flour for a TikTok waffle recipe and Tokyo Central was she last place I remember finding this flour. I've been to their Yorba Linda location, but the Gardena location is the spot! Tons of fresh sushi at the deli, so many eateries throughout the store and every Japanese food product you can think of. They also have a health & beauty section and a stationary section! I left with 2 boxes of mochi flour, 3 shrimp rice balls and a plate of poke from the deli. If you're hungry and need something fresh and fast, Tokyo Central is where to go. Everything is beautifully prepared, the employees are all very helpful and it feels like a much more fun shopping experience than going to a normal grocery store. If you can't afford to go to Japan right now, just go to Tokyo Central for an hour and you'll feel a little better.

During late fall, there is only bananas, melons berries, etc. in most stores. Fuyu persimmons, the higher fiber, juicy fruit you can eat like an apple or wait till it's like pudding, is on it's way out till next year. At Super King, there were lots of them for $1.69 a pound. Albertson's had them for $5 for 2 pounds or $2.50 a pound. Dragon Fruit was $1.99 a pound, usually around $4-5 a pound at the supers. The best cucumbers, Persian, were $1.79 a pound and up to twice as much at supers. I bought a honeydew melon for about $2, and it was great selling for about twice as much at Alberston's. I have had several of their pastries, most are pretty good and prices are fair. They have lots of specials on groceries that they place at end of aisle. I really like that they have a line for those with 15 or less. I was in and out of the check out line in 5 minutes. but during peak times it could take a lot longer. Seems to me, it is less crowded than other markets. (If I can avoid crowds, I will). It was Tet New Year season and I needed to get a few ingredients for some dishes I planned to cook. My first priority was the fresh oxtail in the meat department. I have gone to many markets for this cut and it seems this is the best place for a ~2 pound tray of mixed size tails. The fat is all trimmed off, as opposed to other markets that leave a fat layer behind that you are paying for. It also depends on if you prefer leaner tails. Next, the produce section. I picked up some cailan (Chinese broccoli). For the most part, the Asian veggies are pretty fresh - since there is a higher turnover rate of Asian veggies in this area. It was good on this day. So many varieties of green veggies, I love it! The fruit section is also pretty impressive. Papayas, guanabana, dragon fruit, pommelo, tangerines, korean pear, manzano bananas,...Not your ordinary apples and oranges. Dry goods include a plethora of rice, including Thai sweet rice, Japanese rice (perfect for sushi rice), red rice (known for high fiber and low glycemic index)... Who likes Chinese Style sausage? Me! It is called Lap Xuong, in Vietnamese. I love making Thai sweet rice and serve with thinly sliced Lap Xuong - my mom fed us kids this often! And yes, they have a good supply of this here, so stock up, it will last forever in the pantry. Vietnam is the world's second largest coffee producer. You will see the crazy amount of coffee products sold here, for example, Vinacafe. Most are packed as individual serving packets which includes cream and sugar. Too convenient for consumption! Also perfect to have in your pantry. You shall be impressed with the chili aisle. Sambal of all kinds. You can make an awesome pot of chili with this heat! Lots of Lunar New Year items too. I am sure there are still some left for purchase if you didn't have a chance to pick some up yet. They do have a liquor department too. Asians can drink iykyk. If you do, please don't drink and drive. Parking is ok, if you go shopping off peak hours. Market is on Beach Boulevard and it could get pretty busy so plan wisely. So enjoy your visit. The store itself is smaller if you compare it with places like Shun Fat Westminster Superstore or Hòa Bình supermarket. There is only one checkout counter and the staff all seem to be Vietnamese. After walking around, they pretty much have all the basics covered. The focus is Vietnamese and Southeast Asian ingredients and sauces. They have their own seafood and meat counter with number tags where you can ask them to clean or cut fish, plus a small deli to go section. I also noticed their delivery vehicle outside that says wholesale, so it seems like they also supply restaurants in the area. Overall it feels like a neighborhood market that also does some wholesale business. The fresh section looked clean and there was no strong smell. I happened to see ground pork on sale for $2.49 per pound. The regular price was $2.79. Of course I had just paid $3.99 per pound earlier that day at 99 Ranch in Irvine because I wanted convenience. While we were there, a Vietnamese lady next to us was buying a big pile of meat and seafood and chatting with us while waiting for it to be cut. She said she always shops here. She ended up buying the last of the ground pork in the display. We asked if there was any left and the butcher said he had more in the back, so we immediately decided to grab two pounds. I think this place is perfect if you do not want to push a cart around a huge store and just need to pick up a few items quickly. They are open until 8pm. Next time I have more time I will come back and explore a bit more to see what other interesting things they carry. So if you need charge and also get groceries, this is where you'd wanna go. Selection wise everything is pretty fresh. They also have a lot of prepared Vietnamese foods as well which is nice. Lighting seems a lot brighter here compared to the other place. I think the vegetables can be a little bit more expensive compared to some other places, but if you don't want to go all the way up to Garden Grove or Westminster, this is a nice alternative.
