If you're a Japanese fans--this place is for you. My Japanese products always last longer and better quality. More than a decade coming here and planning to come here as long as I am able to. Food Court! Amazing! Delicious! Never disappoint! Lunch hour is BUSY and every table is taken. Parking is tight. They have varieties of Japanese food and drinks in here. This was my first time at this Mitsuwa, and unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed. The parking lot is quite small, and there was active construction at the entrance during my visit, which made the area noisy and a little difficult to navigate. Having been to other Mitsuwa locations, especially the one in Torrance, I found this store to be very cramped and dark by comparison. I also had trouble finding many of the items I normally buy at Mitsuwa--they simply didn't seem to be stocked on the shelves. The prepared foods were another disappointment. The selection didn't seem nearly as appealing or extensive as what I've found at the Torrance location. I ended up picking up a few things, but was surprised to find that they were more expensive than similar items at another Japanese grocery store in the area, which I visited afterward. Overall, I'd choose the Torrance location over Irvine based on this visit. The Irvine store just didn't have the selection, atmosphere, or value I've come to expect from Mitsuwa. read more

Selection at Mitsuwa is amazing, lots of Asian snacks and nice kitchenware. Basically just claim a table, which can be hard during lunch or dinner. Staff is diligent with cleaning. Food court is awesome. Santouka is great and so is the stationary shop (but overpriced) read more

Came here on a Sunday evening and decided to order the chicken cutlet curry. This is my go to spot for quick Japanese food. As usual, it was much busier than the other Mitsuwa location in Cypress. Great place to shop for some Asian ingredients. It can be a bit pricier than some similar stores. Nice selection, friendly staff, usually very clean. There is a nice food court and some smaller kiosks and shops within. It is easy to lose track of time here while scouting out new things to try and perusing things. Parking situation fluctuates. Sometimes it is easy and readily available, other times it has been so packed that we have found street parking and walked a block or two. read more

This place sells curry-making pots and such. It even has a little explanation as to how and why spicy/hot foods cools you down during the summer days. This place even sells mochi that is slimy and has brown powdery stuff on it. The snacks here looks so good and tasty. read more

One of my fave spots in Orange County. If you go here for groceries, they have amazing selection. And if you get hungry, you're in luck because they have amazing food selection. The food court is pretty huge and spacious albeit it gets really packed. However, they have a great system and staff are always proactive in cleaning up the tables as soon as someone's done eating so others can use the table. It is perfect for dinner and hangouts (with food purchase of course) with friends and family. Highly recommend this place! read more

If you haven't been to this Mitsuwa location, you're missing out! Their food court is gold, and I always have a great time coming here. You'll find plenty of food options ranging from sushi, udon, ramen, ice cream, boba, etc. Here's what I typically get: Tonkatsu Udon from Sanukiseimen Mugimaru (4/5) - Salty, flavorful, and just what you need to pair with a frozen slushie beer. The udon has slices of tender chashu pork for your protein fix. Don't forget to add the delicious tempura options. Prices are fairly reasonable (~$11 for a regular udon bowl). Matcha & Hokkaido milk soft serve from Umacha (4/5) - Great soft serve texture! The matcha is mild and the Hokkaido milk is on the creamier side. I'll probably just stick w/ the matcha next time. After your food coma, check out the actual market! You'll find plenty of Japanese goods. The market sometimes have random pop-ups on the weekends. At this particular time, they had a fresh mochi stand (get the strawberry red bean mochi - trust me!). read more

Most of stores foods are so cheap compared with Las Vegas restaurants. Most of foods are under $12. Usually that amount and quality foods in Vegas are over $20. I wish Mitsuwa comes to Vegas. Mitsuwa Marketplace is an experience. It's the closest I've come to being in Japan without actually being in Japan. It's also the closest I've come to being in San Francisco's Japantown without actually being in San Francisco's Japantown. It is, as the name states, a "marketplace", in that it consists of a market, many shops, and a Japanese food court all under one roof. Stepping foot inside was exciting. The entryway is busy, with the first vendor selling high-end mochi across from another selling beautiful Japanese candies and desserts. Down the middle they're giving away samples of Japanese seafood spaghetti, fermented soybeans, and I don't know what else. Walking through the "market" portion of the store I had fantasies of loading my trunk for the drive back up north. So many interesting sweets, meats, seafood, liquor, and more, more, more. I can't say whether the prices were fair, only that if I were, say, about to make Sukiyaki or Sashimi I'd come here for the ingredients. I wandered from the store to the food court where each purveyor looked more interesting than the last. Dinner plans were already set but a return visit the following evening (beware: food court restaurants close early) allowed me to enjoy the full Mitsuwa Marketplace experience which I'd describe as clean, tasty, and a venerable hive of activity. I'd been wanting to experience Mitsuwa Marketplace for a long time. Now that I have, I'm fairly certain I'll be heading here at least once on every future SoCal visit. read more

Last time, I ordered the curry udon with a side salmon don. The curry udon was comforting and hearty, with thick, chewy noodles coated in a rich, slightly sweet Japanese curry broth that warms you up instantly. But honestly, the salmon don really stole the show. The rice alone is addicting -- perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of rice vinegar, giving it that subtle tang and ideal sticky texture. "Feel the vibe from here to Asia" (The Manhattan Transfer) Mitsuwa Marketplace opened its first amazing Asian market in Fresno in 1979. Today, the brand has grown to twelve locations stretching from California to Texas to Illinois to New Jersey to Hawaii. The store was an absolute blast to wander around in and gawk at so many wonders everywhere we looked. Gorgeous fruits and vegetables, mountains of rice, more sauces and spices than I ever dreamed existed, They sell a mind-numbing amount of Asian foods, drinks, snacks, prepared foods, produce, baked goods, meat and seafood counters, and more. The marketplace has some self-contained businesses (like Daiso), and a big food court with sushi, sashimi, bento, noodles, soups, and pretty much whatever you'll find in a Japanese restaurant. Want to wash all that goodness down with an adult beverage? Well, Mitsuwa has Japanese beer, sake, Japanese whiskey, and Japanese wine. We were flying home soon after our visit, so I was reluctant to buy anything in a glass jar or bottle. But we did pick up some boxed soups and sauces and a huge Korean pear to enjoy in our hotel room. If I lived locally, I'd be here a few times a week and most definitely would hit that food court for dinners. read more

This is me and my mom's number one place to buy food and utensils when it comes to making Japanese styled food. The grocery is good for what to expect for any Asian market but the main attraction is the food court. It may not seem like much but all of them are really good and would fill up your hunger instantly. My favorites from the top of my head are the Katsu Don if I remember correctly and the Udon section where you pick your tempura (don't know the exact name). Overall good place to eat lunch or even dinner. Another problem would be finding a seat since there's hardly any tables and your plate is pretty big and bowls are heavy so you have to be somewhat quick to find a seat. The ambiance is fine but that's kind of to be expect in any supermarket, which is usually crowds talking and all. I really don't have much to say. Ever since this place closed down the anime shop, the DVD store, and bookstore, this place pretty much lost what made Mitsuwa special and worth visiting. Especially for someone who's into both anime and tokusatsu like Super Sentai (Japanese Power Rangers). Those places are what got me my first Gundam model kit (Freedom Gundam from Gundam Seed) and my go to place for Japanese DVDs as mentioned (Gokaiger, Kyoryuger, and Nanoha). I understand why they close down these stores, especially with streaming services and online shopping are a thing, even though I don't fully agree as they are customers like me that would prefer in-store physical copies. That is why I deduct one star. These are replaces with a gachapon store, a Matcha store, a Boba store I believe and Daiso. The matcha and boba place (forgot the names sorry) are surprisingly good. I really like the matcha ice cream in a bowl and I believe the Doncha. The gachapon I cannot say as I never spend money there and I'm not into these gacha machines and I rarely buy anything in Daiso as its just your typical convenience store that sells some Japanese stuff so I won't say much. In conclusion, it's a very nice spot to eat Japanese meals and especially something to fill you up for the day while also shopping to buy Japanese food to cook at home. Just be aware this is pretty pricey, especially the Royce matcha chocolates and the food court. read more

I'm obsessed with wandering the many isles of Mitsuwa. This location is even more unique due to its premiere food hall with a variety of must-try vendors. My friends and I hosted an at-home sushi night, so I knew I wanted to grab a few items to make the experience more authentic. Mitsuwa had everything I needed and more. I snagged fresh fish, rice, veggies, wasabi, and ongiri for the group. I also surprised our guests with the most delicious mochi ice cream. I was looking for a spot where I could get quick premade sushi for a reasonable price. I found this market online so I thought I would give it a try. The price was reasonable for premade sushi but the sushi was not good. It smelled very strongly of fish and the rice felt like it was a few days old. That being said... there is so much more available there than just the sushi. There are small restaurants in the market where you can eat and full a Japanese grocery store. read more

Ah, Mitsuwa. It's been a while but nice to revisit again. I came here recently with my husband to visit the food court. I parked in the underground garage since parking out front was busy. We entered the grocery store and found our way to the food court. We dined at Santouka and grabbed matcha tea from UMACHA. The store is well lit and organized. They have those ingredients you need if you want a jar of pickled ginger, dried seaweed, fresh cut seafood, or fermented goods, etc. If you are in the area for Japanese groceries or snacks, this place fits the bill. read more

Mitsuwa Marketplace is another well-known Japanese general store in SoCal, especially the Torrance location. The Mitsuwa @ Costa Mesa location, likely due to its smaller size and how tightly packed everything is, could cause some sensory overload. The location is shared with a few other businesses, so the parking can get hectic, and to me I get anxiety knowing doors being dinged is inevitable due to the cramped, marked spaces. I don't believe there is any "optimal" time to come but certainly avoid the lunch hours. As there are customers that work nearby swing over to buy prepacked lunch boxes, so the food court is congested. There are a few independent stores - a noodle bar and mochi dessert, setting up counter along the outskirt of the perimeter just makes the market very noisy. The service and prices are okay, but the uniqueness of the inventory does draw me back. read more

It looks more beautiful, more seats available and clean. There are 3 locations included Irvine, Torrance and here at Costa Mesa. I mostly come here a lot. If you are a Mochi's fan, it's a place. There are Ramen, Udon, salmon dishes, Chinese dishes, tempura stuffs, Beer stand. Omg.. everything is just very delicious. The service is great, you got your order in minutes. I like to shop at Mitsuwa supermarket, you can find lot of authentic stuffs such as skincare products which are imported from JP. There is a bakery inside the market, they bake everything freshly. This Mitsuwa feels a bit larger, and nicer than the new Irvine one. This one seems a lot more organized, and like it has more stuff? I came here to grab some stuff for a shabu shabu night with friends, and was looking specifically for goma sauce, which they had the exact one I needed. I also happen to find this instant mushroom pasta that I discovered and loved in Japan! It's been impossible to find them in the states, so I'm glad this location carries them. The parking area here is really limited, especially when there's also plenty of restaurants/food courts in the store. There's also a Daiso attached to this market, so you can grab home essentials and groceries at the same time! Very similar and reminiscent of the grocery and department stores in Japan. read more

I went in for the marketplace and stayed for the grocery store . I noticed it was very busy during lunch hour. My FAVORITE items were the shrimp and TEMPURA battered items from the shop that allows you to grab your own tempura sticks. But I also bought the curry/chicken katsu from another shop (it was ok) and the spicy mayo seaweed rice wrap from a third place and that one I really enjoyed ass well. If I would go back, I would only buy the tempura items. read more
