Awesome Japanese market, tons of things you wouldn't find anywhere else, including teas, sauces, desserts, beverages, etc. They even have a small section with various anime/japan merch before the exit along with some crane machines and games. The bathrooms are pretty clean and most of the prices are pretty reasonable. I do feel like some of the daily made food is a bit overpriced, but after 7pm, they do offer discounts. I do feel that the ambiance offers something very different than other markets as the store is usually decorated and generally feels clean, although it used to feel cleaner in the past prior to 2020. Always love visiting here from time to time, especially to get some sake. The size of this Tokyo Central is also a bit bigger than most others, but I do feel like other TC's are more modern and cleaner than this one, but you still can't go wrong here. Edit: I went today because I was in the area and the store feels much cleaner and they added a brand new sushi bar with a chef where the old anime stuff used to be. I drove all the way here to grab the good tender meat , sold at reasonable price compared to other Japanese markets. I usually grab the sliced Premium Beef and Pork. I used it for Ramen noodles soup, very tender and flavorful, just love it! I also grab a loaf of milk bread, super sift to the touch and tasted delicious when I made toast with butter or ate it alone. I also bought some frozen ramen with condiments. Easy ti make for anytime meal. It wasn't on sale, but I still grab it for convenience. They took out the section for apparel, too bad! I used to buy their cute T-shirts and hoodies. tokyo central is one of my fave grocery stores. i love walking around bc it reminds me of japan~ and i love japanese food! the white bread here from mammoth bakery is so soft and fresh. i love the chewy chocolate mochi from fugetsu do. their premade food and hot deli options always catch my eye. i've tried the mentaiko pasta, bolognese, sushi, curry, etc. they discount the cold food 20% off after 7 pm and sometimes if you come early in the morning they may have a few discounted items too. the good sushi usually gets snagged up by people by before 7 since they will come before it hits 7 and hold onto it and then pay at 7 when the discount starts lol when you check out, their hand roll bar smells so divine with the the smokiness of the seared sushi, so enticing! employees here are always friendly, love the energy here :) read more

I had the buffet style for lunch. It was good as described at YouTube and at $10 plus change per pound it was delish! My final bill was $19.78. This Tokyo Central is larger and better thank most of their other locations! Great supplies of all things Japanese; especially food! My favorite #1: Their eggs have golden yellow yolks, which you won't find in most supermarkets. My favorite #2: their baked teriyaki eels; you can make Eel Rice for the a small family with one package, usually between $25-35 but sometimes on sale for under $20. My favorite #3: their thick sliced bread (厚片土司) - each slice is about twice as thick as ordinary sliced break; very gratifying when they pop out of the toaster! This is my fifth Tokyo Central (TC) store I've been to in Southern California. It has all the essential groceries you would find at any other TC location: meats, seafood, produce, snacks, kitchen cookware, etc. But...This location carried a lot more merchandise, like beauty products, tote bags, and other cute things. Also grocery and refrigerated items I hadn't seen before. This location is very clean, lots of fresh bento boxes for your choosing. They have a good frozen section and many pantry items. Prices are pretty much the same as other locations. My only experience that was blah was the cashier. She was an older lady with glasses and she seemed impatient and hurried me to move my items towards her on the belt. There was only one other person behind me, so I didn't understand the rush. But it did come off slightly unfriendly. Otherwise, it was an as expected store. Lots of parking also in their lot. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Tokyo Central yet, though I've stopped by here dozens of times - my go to is their sushi tray options! They have the BEST tasting salmon sushi/sashimi all around, at this price point, even better salmon quality compared to nearby sushi restaurants in my opinion. (Our Japanese native friend also agrees.) Best part is - 20% off after 7 pm!!!! But the trays get snatched up quickly. Too bad I'm not around the area at that time, otherwise I'd make Tokyo Central my weekly run for dinner. Their Kimchi Tako Poke is another regular we get, it's so good. However, recently, the only option I saw was the Shoyu Tako Poke - and I didn't like this version one bit - too hard and the flavor is not to my liking. Will never get it again. The hot food area has quite a decent selection, priced and weight by the pound, self-served. Often around 3-4pm, you may see 20% discounted packaged hot food placed out, whatever that's leftover from the lunch rush hour. Tried it a few times, but felt most of the food is heavily dosed in MSG, so I'd be selective on what I get. They also have sashimi party trays which require pre-order. Great pricing for the quality and convenience. Overall, love their sushi selection, and it's a regular stop for us. As for the market itself, there's not as much to buy, and pricing is on the higher end. However, they have a larger selection of some products that I can't find elsewhere, and sometimes their advertised specials are decently priced. read more

This sore is so much more than the former Marukai at the same location. merchandise are shelfed higher and more displays are available to promote their prepared foods and new merchandise. Came today with my daughter to get all her favorites to cook this week while she's home. Love the produce section --the Asian pears are always good here, and the ginger. I appreciate the dining area partitioned off to the side for people to eat the buffet style cooked food right away. My daughter likes their sautéed green beans, grilled mackerel and fried noodles. My husband likes their sautéed unagi eel on rice. I like the tuna and salmon sushi. They always have enough cashier lanes open. If you buy food to eat there, ask for utensils from the cashier. The store aisles are a bit narrow, so you have to take turns slowly so you don't collide with other carts, but it is well organized and clean. The staff are helpful and polite. read more

Asian snack heaven! I came here to pick up a couple of items to make Spam masubi for my kids but I left with a whole cart full of goodies. And, I'll definitely be back. I wish I hadn't just had lunch before I came. Their selection of grocery items for Japanese, Chinese, and even some Hawaiian items was great. I do wish they carried some Vietnamese staples too, like fish sauce, so I didn't have to go to two stores but I know it's called "Tokyo Central" so I shouldn't expect that. It would just be nice. I loved that there is a fresh sushi and sashimi area, bakery, and deli, so you can pick up prepared foods. There's also a great seating area to enjoy your goodies on the spot. There is a section near the entrance that sells food a la carte and then you can either take it home or eat at their dining area. There is a microwave oven and water dispenser for your convenience. There is a little shop inside that sells plush toys and other novelty items. You can also see a few claw machines too. I think this location is better than the Yorba Linda one. It has a bunch of cool items and a hot food bar. It all looked great I got a waygu slider, meat croquette and Yukon fries. There isn't anywhere to eat inside so I ate in my car. Unfortunately none of the food was warm and I was very quick to leave. I also wanted to buy vanilla coolish but they were out of individual packs so I had to buy half vanilla and half chocolate. The supermarket is generally clean and they have security guards there during business hours. During lunch hours, they have a hot food section to make you own lunch. You can grab a box to fill it up and weight it at the cash register. They also have a selection of grab and go lunch entrees, such as beef bowls, curry bowls and sashimi salads. They offer ready made sandwiches, sushi rolls, onigiri, and many others items. Tokyo Central offers a big section to have lunch with 10+ tables for any one wanting to eat inside the market. PRO TIP: If you come by around 7-7:30PM, all the ready made food as I mentioned above are priced at 20% off! This is a great time to stock up and grab you favorite items. Also the hot food sections has packed containers to sell after hours. Most of the time, this hour at Tokyo Central gets packed as everyone wants to grab the discounted items. Whether we come here to eat or grab some groceries and cool snacks/drinks we enjoy dropping by from time to time. Came in on a Thursday around 1:30pm. Love love love this market. When we lived down here this location and the gardena (original) locations were a regular stop. Always wander around to see what offerings are available. Love the 10.99 per pound "buffet" The karaage chicken is a favorite along with the noodle dishes and tried the curry fried rice for the first time (yum) the employees are helpful here. I really like tokyo market but i will say the onigiri has gone down hill the last few time ive gone rice is stale. The premade food i like the but i love onigiri its quick snack i can hop in grab one and eat it in the car. At least the 6 times ive gone the rice has been stale and its only at this location i drive from west covina to costa mesa alot and the costa mesa location no matter if i go in the morning or night the onigiri rice is soft. West covina location really need to check there FIFO or the temp because 6 onigiri comes roughly out 15$ plus tax of wasted money on food that was un edible read more

The new upgrade to the store makes it more roomy. Especially where they put the fruit sandwich. But the cashiers there are still not to par on customer service. I think that is why this store isn't getting by as much returning customers. People rather go the one in chino. read more

A great Japanese grocery store that I always find myself coming to not only for groceries, but for lunch! I usually come here for lunch as there are great ready-to-go options for sushi and rice dishes. My regular selections include the bluefin tuna bowl, seared scallop nigiri, seared salmon nigiri, handrolls, egg sandwich, real crab California roll, and much more. For the quality and price of the sushi, it definitely competes with going to a Japanese restaurant. Sometimes, I prefer eating here and their dining section rather than going to an actual restaurant. Also, don't overlook their hot food section when they have it available. It's buffet style but they do charge $10.99/lb of food. They have a pretty good variety of food available to choose from. The cheese tonkotsu, umami karage, and the curry fried rice are some of my favorite. The service from the staff are what you expect from a grocery store. They'll answer any questions that you may have about finding anything from the grocery store. You can find anything you really need from the grocery section with an emphasis on Japanese cuisine and kitchen appliances. The dining area that they have available is very clean and is well maintained. There's plenty of seating available for groups and single diners, but if the place is busy during a time like lunch rush; finding a spot to sit may be challenging! I had no choice this time since he was the only one working the line, which had very few people -- shocker. He doesn't offer chopsticks, wasabi, or, in our case yesterday, a brown paper bag even though we bought a lot of stuff. He also has a heavy attitude and makes comments that rub me the wrong way. There's a variety of food that you can get at this Tokyo Central! In addition, Tokyo Central is like the sister store of Don Quijote! I got a Torpedo sandwich, which is the most popular sandwich! With it being a little later in the day, I got it for 20% off and it was super filling! I like that there's a seating area to sit and eat, but note that it's for a time limit! One of my favorite markets to go to because they have so many fresh sushi options. They also have a hot food option during lunch time. It's self serve so you get a box and get whatever you want and it is priced at $10.99/lb. They have a scale so you can check how much you are getting. They have grilled mackerel, tempura, agedashi tofu, chicken, ribs, and more. I haven't tried it yet but they all look good and fresh and I always see a lot of people getting their hot food items whenever I am here during lunch time on a Saturday. I like getting their prepackaged sushi and their rice balls. They are always pretty fresh and decently priced. If you go after 7pm, they are usually 20% off but there might not be a lot of options. If you come around 10:30am, there will be a lot more options. They also have sandwiches and mochis. They have a small bakery next to the sushi/hot food items area as well. They have a good variety of snacks and Japanese hair and skincare. I like getting udon and Japanese seasonings from here since they are affordable. They also have other Asian items that are not Japanese and a few Hawaiian products too.
