tokyo central is one of my fave grocery stores. i love walking around bc it reminds me of japan~ and i love japanese food! the white bread here from mammoth bakery is so soft and fresh. i love the chewy chocolate mochi from fugetsu do. their premade food and hot deli options always catch my eye. i've tried the mentaiko pasta, bolognese, sushi, curry, etc. they discount the cold food 20% off after 7 pm and sometimes if you come early in the morning they may have a few discounted items too. the good sushi usually gets snagged up by people by before 7 since they will come before it hits 7 and hold onto it and then pay at 7 when the discount starts lol when you check out, their hand roll bar smells so divine with the the smokiness of the seared sushi, so enticing! employees here are always friendly, love the energy here :)

I am visiting Weat Covina from my hometown Florida and saw this plade by accident thinking it was the same location I saw on YouTube and it was not by looking at the building yet I went inside anyway and tried them out. I had the buffet style for lunch. It was good as described at YouTube and at $10 plus change per pound it was delish! My final bill was $19.78. I had 4 pieces of shrimp tempura, 2 pieces of chicken teriyaki, 1 fish cake, 1 floured fried cabbage with fish, 1 piece of cabbage rolled fish. 8 pieces Crunch green beans. Then the following day I had the $20.99 Chirashi, $15 Umi, $5.70 surf clam. All were fresh cause I waited for the. To stock the item. I also had the egg and ham sandwich as well as strawberry and cream sandwich. W

Love Tokyo Central - all locations. This one in West Covina now has the Handroll Bar. Notable: Extended options for "set" - 3, 4, 5, & 6 roll options. Also an omakase option Service is good Price very reasonable Quality is above par I would recommend.

This Tokyo Central is larger and better thank most of their other locations! Great supplies of all things Japanese; especially food! My favorite #1: Their eggs have golden yellow yolks, which you won't find in most supermarkets. My favorite #2: their baked teriyaki eels; you can make Eel Rice for the a small family with one package, usually between $25-35 but sometimes on sale for under $20. My favorite #3: their thick sliced bread (厚片土司) - each slice is about twice as thick as ordinary sliced break; very gratifying when they pop out of the toaster! They also have a huge selection of ready-made food from bento boxes to sushi. A great place for busy working people to get easy meal solutions!

20% off after 7 pm on prepped food with today's sell by date

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Tokyo Central yet, though I've stopped by here dozens of times - my go to is their sushi tray options! They have the BEST tasting salmon sushi/sashimi all around, at this price point, even better salmon quality compared to nearby sushi restaurants in my opinion. (Our Japanese native friend also agrees.) Best part is - 20% off after 7 pm!!!! But the trays get snatched up quickly. Too bad I'm not around the area at that time, otherwise I'd make Tokyo Central my weekly run for dinner. Their Kimchi Tako Poke is another regular we get, it's so good. However, recently, the only option I saw was the Shoyu Tako Poke - and I didn't like this version one bit - too hard and the flavor is not to my liking. Will never get it again. The hot food area has quite a decent selection, priced and weight by the pound, self-served. Often around 3-4pm, you may see 20% discounted packaged hot food placed out, whatever that's leftover from the lunch rush hour. Tried it a few times, but felt most of the food is heavily dosed in MSG, so I'd be selective on what I get. They also have sashimi party trays which require pre-order. Great pricing for the quality and convenience. Overall, love their sushi selection, and it's a regular stop for us. As for the market itself, there's not as much to buy, and pricing is on the higher end. However, they have a larger selection of some products that I can't find elsewhere, and sometimes their advertised specials are decently priced.

If you like Japanese food and anything Japanese this is the place to go they have hot food section they have deli section and they have dessert section you can definitely get your Mochi fix here depends on the time of day sometimes they sell out I wish they had a food court with real restaurants but I understand it is the space issue and they don't have to space for that other Tokyo Central they have restaurants and a real food court area but this is a nice place to stop to get a treat or snack or a quick fix parking is not the best but it is okay there are worse parking and other places

This sore is so much more than the former Marukai at the same location. merchandise are shelfed higher and more displays are available to promote their prepared foods and new merchandise. I felt like I got lost with so many options and believe this is what Japan would be like. The ambiance is clean and not congested. The meats are are well separated and the packaged goods are easily accessible. I would like to check this place out when I have more time...

My favorite Japanese supermarket! I finally made it to the West Covina location as I have been to all the other locations. This location recently renovated and has a food court seating area now. I got an Octopus salad and Fugetsu-Do mochi, so good!! Service is fine. I would come back again and again; especially now that there is a seating like food court area that has a water dispenser and microwave.

A great Japanese market! I'm Japanese American so really enjoy the variety and quality of groceries, seafood, prepared foods and dry goods. It's a 35 minute drive, but it is worth it! Also love that it is a market with parking.

Came today with my daughter to get all her favorites to cook this week while she's home. Love the produce section --the Asian pears are always good here, and the ginger. I appreciate the dining area partitioned off to the side for people to eat the buffet style cooked food right away. My daughter likes their sautéed green beans, grilled mackerel and fried noodles. My husband likes their sautéed unagi eel on rice. I like the tuna and salmon sushi. They always have enough cashier lanes open. If you buy food to eat there, ask for utensils from the cashier. The store aisles are a bit narrow, so you have to take turns slowly so you don't collide with other carts, but it is well organized and clean. The staff are helpful and polite.

Asian snack heaven! I came here to pick up a couple of items to make Spam masubi for my kids but I left with a whole cart full of goodies. And, I'll definitely be back. I wish I hadn't just had lunch before I came. Their selection of grocery items for Japanese, Chinese, and even some Hawaiian items was great. I do wish they carried some Vietnamese staples too, like fish sauce, so I didn't have to go to two stores but I know it's called "Tokyo Central" so I shouldn't expect that. It would just be nice. I loved that there is a fresh sushi and sashimi area, bakery, and deli, so you can pick up prepared foods. There's also a great seating area to enjoy your goodies on the spot. I spent an hour exploring in here and will be back with my kids so we can really deep dive into the many snack isles.

Tried Tokyo Central in West Covina and was pretty impressed with the variety of sashimi and sushi they offer. Everything tasted very fresh, and the selection has a good mix to choose from, so you can find something for every sushi lover. It's definitely a nice spot if you want quality fish without going to a restaurant. That said, it's a bit pricey for a grocery store setting. You save maybe a dollar or two compared to going to a restaurant, so it's not a huge discount but still a decent option if you want to grab high-quality sushi to go. Overall, I'd give it 4 stars for freshness and variety, just keep in mind the price point isn't super budget-friendly.

Tokyo Central has a great selection of Asian snacks, beverages, and products, but I came specifically for the packaged food and hot meals. They had a solid variety of ready-to-eat options like chicken karaage, bento boxes, donburi, and more. There's also a microwave and a small dining area, which makes it really convenient to eat after paying. I picked up the variety sushi. The rice was a bit hard, but the fish quality was decent. Definitely not restaurant-level sushi, but it hit the spot for a quick sushi craving. Overall a good option when you want a convenient Japanese meal or snack without sitting down at a restaurant.

Ask the Community - Tokyo Central

Is the hot food buffet only on certain days? I came in today Monday Aug 25th and everything were prepackaged and I wanted the convenience of getting only certain amount of specific foods.

The hot food ‘buffet’ items are available from around 10 am to about 3 or 4 pm. Some items sell-out. Whatever, that is not sold is then packaged as prepared meals. Hope this…

    Do they accept EBT now?

I heard they do now on qualifying items though I have not tested it myself. I do know that they do have a sticker outside stating that they do take EBT now

Is someone able to tell me if they sell sushi grade fish? Tuna, salmon etc. to make sushi at home. Frozen or fresh?

YES and always fresh and delicious. Tokyo Central is the best market for fresh high grade sushi fish and seafood.

What time does the hot food self service counter open?

    Hi! 11am-2pm

What days and hours is the self-serve hot food bar open? Cause they seem to be closed if I go too late in the afternoon...

    11am-2pm :)

Do they sell vegan tuna sashimi?

    Not sold at Tokyo Central

    Rice cooker promote?

Not sure what is your question. You can check their online weekly ad for rice cookers to go on sale. They have displayed the latest rice cookers from Japan.

    Do you accept EBT payments?

    No. They do not

What time are the sushi boxes available?

I think usually around 11 a.m. They rope off the area, bring the boxes in and then allow patrons to buy them. You can purchase the ready made hot food earlier.

I heard the store down in the South Bay is now a Don Quijote.. They have the stores in Hawaii. The stores have larger selection of cooked foods and poke. Anyone know if this store plans to do the same name change?

How do I place an order for California rolls party trays?

Don't bother calling, you'll get nowhere. You have to go in person, in the morning when they open is your best bet. You'll have to pay for it in advance before they make it so that they're not stuck with it.

    Do they accept ebt/food stamps?

No, they unfortunately do not accept EBT or food stamps.

Does this place sell sweet radish? I need it to make pad Thai.

No. You're better off trying H2 Market, 99 Ranch, etc

Hello. Does this location sell whole Japanese cheesecakes like the Yorba Linda location?

    yes

Does this place sell a lot of Dagashi? Like Umaibo and stuff?

Yes, they have a good selection.

Is the dining area still closed?

Hell no! But I do hope that things improve enough for them to re-open that section. Peace

What time during your business hours do the sushi/sashimi platters usually come out?

Hi Steve, Thank you for your question. At our West Covina store, the small sashimi trays are…

Hi, is there a place where I can see the prices for your sushi/sashimi platters?

Good afternoon Allen, Thank you for your question. The menu/prices for our Sushi/Sashimi Party…

What time does their bendo box/hot food reduce 20% everyday?

    7pm

Hello, do you sell black garlic oil?

Good afternoon Jamie, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, our West Covina store doesn't…
