They have new owners. They don't listen when you order. Twice I ordered lunch combos and they made full entry portions and said it was thier mistake, but charged me for it and did not make the order as I had called it in. Lunch combos at lunch time should be normal but these guys are clueless. They actually laughed the second time and said oh no, we did it again. I said yah, I don't want the full portions. Due to the current state of the world they are not excepting anyone inside their restaurant. Better safe than sorry I guess. Order wings with shrimp fried rice. They give a good helping of rice. But the rice seem not cooked enough to the point it was softened. The rice was mixed with peas and onions. The peas also seemed to be under cooked. The chicken was flavorful and cooked all the way. Congratulations, you will make a lot of money from me as a regular customer. I used to go to China Taste but they have started to suck. So Tokyo Express is better. Better food and better value. But they are starting to raise their prices too and the quality is really just average (for this area), so it's honestly nothing to rave about. I ordered vegetable chow mein and received a container of bland vegetable mush and more stale wonton strips. My sons orange chicken was rock hard balls of mystery meat. We were trying to go to a Korean place in the strip mall it's located in, but it happened to be closed. We knew it had potential because there was a large 20-ish crowd waiting for take out. This is your typical mom and pop CHINESE joint found in most college towns. Food was quickly served, carefully packed, hot and tasty. Mind you, this is not gourmet; the food tends to be on the greasy side, but it reminded me of my college days. One order could easily feed 2, maybe three people. Very generous portions. For the price you pay, it's a hit. I order to go regularly. Huge portion, fast, food is always hot and fresh off the wok. They even customize my order per my request with no extra charge (I ask for broccoli in my Mongolian beef). Food is always perfectly seasoned, never bland, never too salty. Even the sweet and sour pork is perfectly done, crispy on the outside, well seasoned and juicy pork on the inside, way better than Jin Jin. Mind you, sweet and sour pork is simple but tricky to make. Cut the meat to thin and it dries out like cardboard after being fried. Cut it too big and the middle will oozes juice, soaking the batter coating and make it soggy. Obviously you can't expect it to be something like from Chinatown NYC. But for how fast and affordable it is, I will keep coming back. Two things they can improve: the rice and less oil. Although Chinese cuisine means dripping oil, me personally (and my cardiologist too) would greatly appreciate if they reduce the oil just by 25%. The bottom of my food is always soaking in oil and I always have to throw that out. Though the rice is fluffy and perfectly cooked, it is low quality rice, again, hence the super affordable rice. I always serve it with my own Shinmai Jasmine rice. If they could up the quality of their rice, I would instantly change it to 5 stars. read more
