I am fairly new to north side dining since starting a job on this side of town. I am a huge sushi and sashimi fan and thought I would try this as one I have not had before. Ordered online for pickup and had to wait a few minutes after driving 10 minutes to get there, but not too bad. I ordered the sashimi bento box as it was the only sashimi lunch option on the beyond menu app. Very disappointed in that I only got 4 little pieces of sashimi. The ginger salad dressing was very good. A lot of fried stuff which was tasty but not helping my desire for a healthy lunch... and 4 pieces of a sushi roll. I took myself on a takeout sushi date last night. When I walked in to pick up my order, everyone was very kind. The hostess/server asked me where I was from and I told her I was just here for work. She offered for me to dine in so I wouldn't have to eat at my place solo, since I don't know anyone here. I thought that was incredibly sweet. I ordered the French kiss, tuna tataki, shrimp tempura appetizer, devil roll, dancing girl, bagel maki and another 2 I can't remember. All of the rolls were really really good!! The dancing girl was delicious and the devil roll was probably my favorite. The shrimp tempura had great flavor. The tuna tataki was a bit spicy, which I like. I will definitely be back, there's even a liquor store 2 doors down, I grabbed some wine to make it a real date night. The only negative thing I can say is that the soy sauce packets were terrible and didn't taste like soy sauce at all. If that's the worst thing I have to say then I'll take it! read more

Decent place for pseudo-Japanese food in Evansville. Yes it is Japanese food, however, it is heavily influenced by American culture/tastes. I had pot-stickers for an appetizer. Lightly pan-fried, and tasty. The problem was the homemade teriyaki sauce. Its ratios were off, or it sat too long on the stove. It was more like a heavy gel comparable to used motor oil. in short it ruined the dish for me. I also ordered a bonsai hibachi grill... It has scallops, shrimp, chicken and beef. But again, this was cooked in that same overcooked, teriyaki sauce which while still edible, could have been much better. Typically I would have expected 4 piles of the different meat, but it was served as a stir fry of sorts all mixed up with a few vegetables. There was also not enough vegetable on the plate. I would say it was about 90% meat, 10% vegetable. Whereas that might sound great, I felt I needed more green. The portion size as a whole was decent. Dish was also served with some fried rice. My plate was also served with a bottle of some sort of mayo-citrus sauce which I did not care for. This is my favorite place to eat in Evansville. The staff is attentative, the tables and booths and bathrooms are always so clean and well lit, and the food... is out of this world. Prices are better than compared to most hibachi places because they don't cook the food in front of you, which is fine by me because I am hungry and want my food NOW! Most hibachi places serve soup and salad with the meal, and this place does not. No big deal. The food tasted good and the portions were very large. However, I do have a major problem...they served the potstickers and egg rolls with ketchup. you read that right....KETCHUP. One of the people I was dining with asked for sweet and sour sauce and the server didn't know what it was. I would have rather they been served with no sauce at all. If it weren't for the whole ketchup thing I would have given them another star. I doubt I will be going back. read more

Pros: 1. Most of the food is pretty good and served at the proper temperature. 2. VERY affordable prices. You can't beat the hibachi menu for value. 3. The place is clean 4. Friendly service 5. Decor is simple, but it works. There are a couple flat screen TVs. Cons: 1. The fried rice is bland. I always have to mix in the sauce from another dish to make it tolerable. 2. When you order the egg roll sometimes you get a tasty spring roll and sometimes you get a made-from-frozen egg roll. (As other reviewers have mentioned, you should never get ketchup with these. Too bad they yet haven't fixed this yet). 3. Service is always friendly but sometimes their communication skills are lacking. Twice my phone-in carryout order was entered incorrectly. If you phone in your order I'd have them repeat it back to you or double check it before you leave. Tip: The hibachi meals are a good value, but I'd stick to the chicken only meal. You can pay more to get chicken + (beef, shrimp, or scallops) but they take away a bunch of the chicken even though you pay more for the extra item. read more

We were promptly seated and orders taken. The waitress was friendly, but all business. The atmisphere and decor were pleasent, and everything seemed clean. My friend ordered a couple sushi rolls, and I had the Teriyaki Salmon bento box. I ordered it because it gives a good variety of different things on the menu. It came with miso soup, ginger salad, tempura fried shrimp and vegetables, pork fried rice, spring rolls, a california sushi roll, and the Salmon teriyaki. All of them tasted fantastic, and were excellent examples of what Japanese cuisine should be. I highly recommend it to anyone. read more

I got the Godzilla Roll. If you like tempura rolls, you'll love this one. I've never been a huge fan of warm sushi, but I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't fall apart when you're using chopsticks, and I really liked that. Nothing worse than getting your bite all ready to go, and it falls apart in your soy sauce! This place is worth checking out for a couple of reasons. First, the food is great. You can order from the hibachi grill without the added cost of watching them cook it in front of you. They bring you soy beans to munch on before the meal and the portions are large. This place is also doing some really cool things with their sushi rolls (which are larger than most rolls in my experience). I had a spicy tuna roll with coconut milk (I think) drizzled over the top. It was sweet yet spicy....excellent. Second, the atmosphere was minimalistic. They had a few things hanging on the walls and a fish tank. The only other piece was a massive tree sculpture of sea creatures (very cool). With light music playing, this would be a great place for a business lunch, a first date, or a deep philosophical debate. So apparently this place is a favorite of my family and i've gotta say i'm with them on this one. What most impressed me was the price. The hibachi lunches are cheap and I have it on good authority that the amount of meat in their rolls is larger than other places in the area. I decided to go with the everything hibachi combo (the bonsai I believe) The chicken was the very good, the best of the four by far. The steak was good but nothing fantastic. The shrimp and scallops were ok nothing more. Gotta go with the chicken. The fried rice was also pretty good side but nothing i'd get excited about. Definitely a bang for your buck. I recommend the Philadelphia Roll or Tuna Roll for something light. If you want something totally different and filling, try the Oh My God Roll.
