The family that seems to run it is very sweet. The sushi, I believe it's the Lewistown roll, with being lightly fried and jalapeños. I can't eat it anymore sadly, but I had some before I couldn't anymore. Bad news bears part of this is that I had also ordered hibachi chicken with yum yum sauce. the yum yum sauce was not yummy in my tummy. I can't eat that stuff anymore because it bothers my stomach and I will be sad that I picked Tokyo for my last hibachi chicken. But I will be happy I had the Lewistown roll one last time. read more

So this is the only place I'll eat sushi in Lewistown especially when I am not in the mood to drive to state college. They have an awesome lunch special for sushi and Bento boxes and I only tried them during the pandemic until now. We went and ate inside for the first time. I decided to go rogue and try their Chinese food. I actually think this is the best Chinese food/Asian food in Lewistown and I've tried them all. Typically you'll get the cloying sweetness in the food that's tailored towards caucasian Americans, but when we ordered honestly it was balanced. Flavor profile was not too sweet and they even had chili oil when I asked for it. They had an assortment of different Asian drinks in their cabinet too. Tonight's visit included a variety beautifully prepared and presented rolls, including an eel and avocado hand roll. Every item was fresh and very flavorful. I was in town visiting family, and decided to eat here based on the reviews. They have an extensive menu- easily over a hundred options. Prices are also very affordable, and you get a good amount of food. I started with the Crab Rangoons, which came with duck sauce. There were about ten Rangoons in the order, which was impressive. However, the ratio of wonton wrapper to filling was way off. There was a thick dry wonton border around the center, and there was little filling inside the Rangoons. For my main I ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce combo plate. It came with fried rice and a spring roll. The fried rice was good, albeit somewhat bland, and the spring roll was also good. The lobster sauce contained ground beef "meatballs", which I thought was unusual, and somewhat off-putting. My grandmother got the Shrimp Chow Mei Fun. This was loaded with shrimp and had a delicious taste, and was finished with scrambled eggs. This was definitely the best dish of the evening. Overall, it was a great value for the price, but I was disappointed in the Crab Rangoons and the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. read more

Well, I have to say that this was better than one would expect in a small town far from the sea or a major airport. The fish was just a little mushy but tasted fine, mostly good quality. They offer lots of interesting rolls, all reasonably priced (downright cheap compared to major-city prices, as with most things). Deep fried rolls are unnecessary but fun. Very cold and abrupt greeting upon entering for lunch. Almost left but we decided to order. Dragon roll was actually delicious so was expecting sushi and sashimi combo to be the same but it was bland and insipid. Two waiters (not sure why) shouted "SOUP OR SALAD ?!" yet brought neither after I asked if they were extra. I ended up here by mere casualty. I went for a vaccine next door, and found this restaurant in yelp reviews. My favorite part is the son of the owner or the manager, I am unsure who she was. However, the kid made my day. a 4 year old boy taking like a 40 year old, asking me how was my dish, and what did I like the most, etc. If you look at the pictures, the food looks very provocative; in fact it was. I ordered a black angel sushi and beef lo mein. I really liked the presentation of the sushi and the sauce on top of it. The beef lo mein was really good and the beef was super soft. Nice meal. A gem in Lewistown. I never would have guessed a sushi place would have made it here, but they've done it well and it's caught on. As most locals know, the building used to be a rather gloomy, dark pizza hut. The renovations they've done look great, very bright and welcoming. The family running Tokyo is the same that used to run the Chinese restaurant in downtown Lewistown. The hostess remembers everyone, remembers what you drink, what your favorite dishes are. The waitstaff is very attentive and on the ball. The food covers the usual american-chinese cuisine as well as a really sizeable sushi menu. While I'm not a sushi connoisseur, all the sushi meals and rolls I've had have been very enjoyable and extremely reasonably priced. On the chinese side of the menu, it's all well done. If there's something you don't see on the menu - ask! They'll often make it for you. Overall, a great addition to the Mifflin County food scene. I'm so glad they're doing well too. read more

I try to get there as often as I can. I Live 45 minutes away. I got the Stesk and Shrimp Hibachi. It was Great. So hard to try new stuff when I want my faves. But all taste great. I usuallg stick with Japanese but you can get Chinese there also. I will try next time. Just love Japanese so much. Worked at a Chinese Restaurant for 10 years so I have eaten a lot of Chinese. This family owned sushi restaurant is one of our favorite places to grab a bite to eat in PA. The food is great the service is good and the family will make you feel like you are apart of their story. When we moved out here having lived all along the east coast we didn't expect to find a good sushi place never mind one that contends with the ones I have been to in States likes NY, NJ, and MD. During a recent business trip to Lewistown I was forced to stay a few days at the super-8 motel in Burnham because the only decent hotel in the area (best western) was booked. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the old Pizza Hut down the street had magically been transformed into "Tokyo Japanese restaurant" since the last time I was here. WIN! I was skeptical after being disappointed by so many strip mall "pan Asian" clip joints on the road, but this was a really pleasant surprise. I was especially surprised to find Hamachi Kama on the menu...a bargain at only $10. I had chirashi sushi on my first visit, which was OK. The miso soup and salad that came with it were standard fare but good. What sets this place apart from the rest is the great variety of unusual and inspired maki rolls. I ordered some of these on my second visit and was very happy with my choices. This is also a good place to come with people who aren't enthusiastic about eating "bait" for dinner because they also have other Asian-esque food including Chinese and hibachi style. Service was slow on my first visit, but we must have caught them on a bad day because tonight everything just clicked and we had a great time and everything was excellent.
