Issei is probably my favorite restaurant in Carlisle and I would highly recommend! My favorite dish is the veggie yaki udon.

Awesome little hip restaurant with some of the BEST ramen there is!! Seating is tight, but fun. The food is by far the best when it comes to flavor and consistency. I have NEVER had a bad meal here & I come quite often. The broth from the ramen is so intense in flavor it's practically euphoric. I can't recommend just one thing, but the blackened garlic ramen and the pad thai is by far my favorite. Service staff is friendly and helpful. Pick a table and go up to the counter to order. Take a seat and enjoy. Highly recommend Issei Noodle next time you're in Carlisle.

This place is pretty small, and tables can be tight, but we got a table for 2 easily on a rainy Saturday at noon. I'm glad I read reviews before going here so I knew that we should go to the counter to get a table assigned to us, take menus with us, then go back to the counter to order. We went with two ramen dishes and a DonBuri dish, plus a mango milk tea with strawberry-popping boba. The food came out pretty quickly and was piping hot. The shoyu ramen was delicious, especially since we added egg and shrimp to it. The star of the meal was the Spicy TanTan ramen, which had a creamier broth (not clear)! Both were very flavorful, but the ground meat and Chashu pork in the Spicy TanTan blew us away. The Chashu DonBuri was delicious! I highly recommend all three of those dishes. Can't wait to come back.

This was such a wonderful experience and find while I was on a business trip. I was in the mood for something other than pizza and this small location caught my eye. Everything on the menu looked delicious but I decided to take the recommendation of the girl taking our order. The noodle dish was fresh and delicious and the flavor was out of this world! The veggie dumplings were amazing.. probably some of the best I've had, and I've had a lot! Don't underestimate their tea either. They are made fresh, infused with fruit, and without sugar! They have unique flavors and their green tea was my absolute favorite. So delicious! I really can't recommend this restaurant enough!

I have been wanting to try Issei for so long and finally did. This restaurant is about to be my new favorite Japanese spot. The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try something else. All the staff were nice and helpful. I absolutely LOVE how the windows are covered with plants!

Funky noodle shop in the heart of Carlisle, PA. I tried the vegetarian pho, a rice dish with shrimp tempura, and a mango bubble tea. What stood out to me the most was that they used real fruit puree in the fruit teas that they make, which made the drink very flavorful.

17A Sakura Warm Ramen ($17 as of 05/2024). That's pork TanTan, chicken, and veggies over noodles but no broth. It's a fantastic dry ramen.

This review is for lunch for two on a Friday in mid May. We've been eating at Issei off and on for at least ten years and it's always spectacular. service: It's a small and very hard working staff. Everyone was professional and helpful. You order at the register and the team delivers your food. food: My wife had 17A Sakura Warm Ramen ($17 as of 05/2024). That's pork TanTan, chicken, and veggies over noodles but no broth. It's a fantastic dry ramen. I had D5 Chicken Karaage-Don ($16 as of 05/2024). This is fried chicken pieces, soft-boiled egg, and corn, over white rice. details: The restaurant is small with some communal tables. Parking in downtown Carlisle can be challenging. Be sure to check the hours. As of 05/2024, Issei only serves lunch Thursday through Saturday.

I cannot get enough of Issei Noodle! I will always gladly go out of my way for Issei. Ramen is flavorful, the fried chicken special was so good, filling and had great spice. The peanut butter pie is too good to share or save for later! I love their black garlic ramen, it truly brings me so much joy. It's worth the wait but it's always better to beat the rush. Prices are good, especially when the food is this top notch. Take your friends or go by yourself but just take a trip to this yummy restaurant!

Ask the Community - Issei Noodle

Do they have vegetarian options? Most of the broth looks pork based...

I believe they do! They have tofu options but not for the ramens I believe. I do not eat pork either so I just got the pad Thai with no meat but I think the ramens the broth may not be safe enough to eat if you do not eat pork.

    Do they have vegan options?

Yes. There are things that are vegan or can easily be made vegan. I'm not sure if they offer a non-meat broth, you'll have to ask them if you want to have a soup type dish. If you're strict about cross-contamination with non-vegan cooking items or…

I started with a 1794 Old Fashioned, which was good enough that I had a second one with dinner. My wife had a Pinot Noir. I had originally planned on ordering the 14 oz. bone-in ribeye, but after seeing that prime rib was offered as a Friday and Saturday special, I decided to try the Molly Pitcher English-cut prime rib prepared 1794 style with the extra grilling. Unfortunately, about five minutes after ordering, I was told they had sold out. I went back to my original choice of the ribeye, ordered medium rare, with Yukon Smash and the seasonal vegetable, which that evening was corn on the cob. The ribeye was tender and flavorful and cooked the way I wanted it. My wife had the chicken pot pie and enjoyed it, although she thought it could have used a little more butter. Desserts are presented verbally rather than on a printed menu. I had the bourbon apple blondie while my wife chose the skillet cookie, which was topped with ice cream and chocolate drizzle. Both were very good. The restaurant is located inside the Comfort Inn and literally occupies the same space where the hotel's breakfast is served each morning. From our table I could even see the small refrigerator used for the breakfast yogurts, so the setting doesn't provide quite the same atmosphere as a standalone restaurant. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and I would consider returning when we're back for Corvettes at Carlisle next year. I'd probably make an earlier reservation next time so I could finally try the prime rib.

The steaks were okay -- they seemed tough and mine, for medium seemed slightly over cooked with hardly any pink inside and what there was was very light pinkish / brown color. Jenni said her steak was done to her satisfaction -- medium well. I would say mine was probably also medium well. My steak had a lot of fat and gristle that I didn't eat. The mashed potatoes were amazing. My asparagus seemed stingy in size and number of stalks and added little taste or filling to my plate. Jenni said her green beans were okay. The iced tea was great. My Pepsi didn't taste flavorful though Alyssa said she checked the soda bags and they were full. I swapped for sweetened ice tea. Alyssa was a super friendly server who checked on us regularly. We want to patronize local businesses but we probably wouldn't get our meals again and would try something else. Jenni said she'd rate our experience as a 2.5 which is exactly what I'd give so we're going to round up since maybe our experience was just a little off this evening.

One13 describes itself as upscale casual, which I think is an accurate description of the atmosphere. We started with the Clams Casino and She Crab Bisque. The Clams Casino were very good and quite different from what I'm used to. Rather than clams topped with bacon and breadcrumbs, One13 serves them more deconstructed, in a bucket with broth and diced bacon accompanied by toasted bread. My wife had the She Crab Bisque and enjoyed it. For our entrées, we both ordered the Salmon Caprese. They didn't ask how we wanted the salmon prepared, but I would estimate it was cooked to medium. The salmon was very good. One interesting part of the dish was the cauliflower purée, which was served cold. There was nothing wrong with it, but when something looks like mashed potatoes, your mind expects it to be hot, so the first bite caught me by surprise. My wife had a Pinot Noir with dinner while I had a Sauvignon Blanc, and both paired well with the salmon. Overall, we had a very good dinner at One13 Social and thought it was a great choice while staying in Carlisle. We parked in the nearby Comfort Inn parking garage, which also gave me a little more peace of mind about leaving the Corvette overnight. We would definitely return next year when we're back for Corvettes at Carlisle.
