This was such a wonderful experience and find while I was on a business trip. I was in the mood for something other than pizza and this small location caught my eye. Everything on the menu looked delicious but I decided to take the recommendation of the girl taking our order. The noodle dish was fresh and delicious and the flavor was out of this world! The veggie dumplings were amazing.. probably some of the best I've had, and I've had a lot! Don't underestimate their tea either. They are made fresh, infused with fruit, and without sugar! They have unique flavors and their green tea was my absolute favorite. So delicious! I really can't recommend this restaurant enough!

I have been wanting to try Issei for so long and finally did. This restaurant is about to be my new favorite Japanese spot. The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try something else. All the staff were nice and helpful. I absolutely LOVE how the windows are covered with plants!

Funky noodle shop in the heart of Carlisle, PA. I tried the vegetarian pho, a rice dish with shrimp tempura, and a mango bubble tea. What stood out to me the most was that they used real fruit puree in the fruit teas that they make, which made the drink very flavorful.

17A Sakura Warm Ramen ($17 as of 05/2024). That's pork TanTan, chicken, and veggies over noodles but no broth. It's a fantastic dry ramen.

This review is for lunch for two on a Friday in mid May. We've been eating at Issei off and on for at least ten years and it's always spectacular. service: It's a small and very hard working staff. Everyone was professional and helpful. You order at the register and the team delivers your food. food: My wife had 17A Sakura Warm Ramen ($17 as of 05/2024). That's pork TanTan, chicken, and veggies over noodles but no broth. It's a fantastic dry ramen. I had D5 Chicken Karaage-Don ($16 as of 05/2024). This is fried chicken pieces, soft-boiled egg, and corn, over white rice. details: The restaurant is small with some communal tables. Parking in downtown Carlisle can be challenging. Be sure to check the hours. As of 05/2024, Issei only serves lunch Thursday through Saturday.

I cannot get enough of Issei Noodle! I will always gladly go out of my way for Issei. Ramen is flavorful, the fried chicken special was so good, filling and had great spice. The peanut butter pie is too good to share or save for later! I love their black garlic ramen, it truly brings me so much joy. It's worth the wait but it's always better to beat the rush. Prices are good, especially when the food is this top notch. Take your friends or go by yourself but just take a trip to this yummy restaurant!

Incredibly fast service. You grab a table and look at their menu then go up to the counter and order and pay. We shared 3 items....that being gyoza, shrimp tempura and yakisoba. Having lived in Japan we are spoiled but this came in fairly close.

#17A. Sakura Ramen - "Dry" ramen. Take it up a notch by mixing in the optional hot chili. Yum.

I finally tried Issei Noodle after having it bookmarked for years. I visit Carlisle on weekends, which is tough -- Issei always had lines on Saturdays and wasn't open Sundays. We tried a variety of types of noodle and rice dishes and everything lived up to the high expectations that had been set: great complex flavors, high-quality ingredients, good portions, reasonable prices. I believe Issei Noodle would be a hit in any big city, but in Carlisle, it's a home run. There's nothing else like it in town. Thus the five stars. In Manhattan or LA, it would still be recommended but not quite exceptional -- maybe 4 stars there. Somebody said to me that I should just order anything -- it's all good. I believe them. For my personal order I went the the recommendation of the cashier, who told me her favorite was the "dry" 17A Sakura Ramen. It was unusual, with a peanut sauce and avocado delivering ample moisture and richness to the wheat noodles. A terrific dish, even if the chicken was a bit dry and there weren't quite enough veggies.

Have to try the spicy tantan. Lots of other great things to try as well. When they have their spring rolls they are a must.

Yes, it's great but has gotten expensive, especially for a bowl of noodles, a few vegetables and some broth. Makes me sad.

Ask the Community - Issei Noodle

Do they have vegetarian options? Most of the broth looks pork based...

I believe they do! They have tofu options but not for the ramens I believe. I do not eat pork either so I just got the pad Thai with no meat but I think the ramens the broth may not be safe enough to eat if you do not eat pork.

    Do they have vegan options?

Yes. There are things that are vegan or can easily be made vegan. I'm not sure if they offer a non-meat broth, you'll have to ask them if you want to have a soup type dish. If you're strict about cross-contamination with non-vegan cooking items or… Read more

More kind and accommodating on the phone than just about any restaurant I've ever called. We came in like a half hour early, over the course of 20 minutes, cause we were traveling in multiple vehicles from ways away... I called ahead, but they said it was no problem at all. They were super helpful, I got drinks started while the rest of the party arrived. Ordered a bunch of appetizers... Mozzarella, sweet potato, waffle, fries, calamari... With like three different dipping sauces. Each of those was fantastic. Folks ordered burgers, chicken, cheesesteaks, traditional fair, like cottage pie, etc. Quantities were massive. Food was tasty. Many to go boxes were provided. The desserts were a surprise... I got my bread pudding to go. And then a few people got the lava cake and shared it. Great beer selection. Great cocktail selection. Great music on the speakers... At least I thought so, the Young'ns weren't as impressed with the sing-along Classics. Our server was beyond helpful, responsive, kind, accommodating,; probably one of the best I've ever had... Is that possible? Big party, I didn't check the details on the check... and the large party tip was included already. So I gave her too much cash for the tip, she stopped me on the way out and wanted to make sure I didn't screw up... Which I did. So she returned a couple bucks. But she earned every every bit for a tip yesterday.

I've been there a few times over the years, and each visit has been about the same: decent food, good drinks, and service that's friendly but sometimes a little slow compared to the crowd size. It's not exceptional, but it's steady, and there's value in that kind of reliability. The atmosphere is distinctly classic, with dark wood paneling, dim lighting, and an overall feel that's equal parts pub and old-school cigar bar. It's a little dated, but in a way that feels intentional--authentic to the town's character. You get the sense that a lot of local business deals and long lunches happen here, and that's part of the charm. The location is just off the main drag where most of the Carlisle festivals and events happen, which can affect how busy it gets. During downtown festivals, expect crowds, but otherwise, it's a good place to relax and catch up over a meal or a pint. Overall, Market Cross Pub isn't trying to reinvent itself--it's simply a solid, familiar spot with dependable food, friendly service, and an atmosphere that fits Carlisle perfectly.

I was craving pizza, my adventure buddy was craving a cheesesteak, and this seemed like the perfect place to satisfy both. Parking is street-only, but it's free after 5pm, which is a win for dinner plans. I managed to snag a spot right out front without having to parallel park or circle the block, which honestly felt like a small victory before the night even started. We had planned to meet at 5:30pm, but due to a slightly delayed adventure buddy situation, we walked in closer to 5:45pm -- right at peak "everyone else had the same idea" time. The place was absolutely PACKED. There was one table left in the main dining area (which we grabbed immediately), though we were told there was additional seating in another room. From our table out front, we had a full view of the action...which turned out to be both entertaining and a little telling. Going into the evening, I had already done my homework (because of course I did) and had spent the week narrowing down my order. Everything on the menu sounded incredible, but I ultimately landed on the Broccoli & Sausage Pizza Bianche -- a white pizza topped with mozzarella, broccoli, sausage, chili oil, and burrata. My adventure buddy chose the standard cheesesteak (hoagie roll, onions, provolone), which was exactly the level of culinary risk I expected from him. It quickly became clear that Nonna Ilva was significantly understaffed that evening. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, and the three staff members we saw were absolutely hustling -- managing the dining room, takeout orders, and a steady stream of DoorDash pickups. They were working hard, but there were simply too many customers for the team on hand. When our server did make it over, we placed both our drink and food orders at the same time to avoid any additional delays. About 20 minutes later, the cheesesteak arrived -- hot and solid, though a bit more straightforward than expected. Despite ordering it with onions, it came out fairly plain with just steak and cheese on a toasted roll. Flavor-wise, it delivered, but it didn't quite stand out. About 10 minutes after that, my pizza arrived -- and WOW. Absolutely stunning. Piled high with sausage, broccoli, and burrata, and finished with a generous drizzle of chili oil, it looked every bit as good as I had hoped. The timing, however, was a bit of a letdown. My adventure buddy had waited to eat until my food arrived (a noble decision), but by the time the pizza hit the table, his cheesesteak had cooled off quite a bit. Not ideal, but we made the best of it. Now let's talk about the pizza -- because this is where Nonna Ilva completely redeemed itself for me. I have been on a lifelong search for a truly great white pizza, and more often than not, it's been a disappointment -- bland, oily, and clearly an afterthought on most menus. But Nonna Ilva? Nonna Ilva cares about white pizza. This was hands down one of the best white pizzas I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, flavorful, and clearly crafted with intention. The chili oil brought just the right amount of heat, the sausage and broccoli were generous and well-distributed, and the burrata? Game changer. I've never seen another local spot incorporate burrata into a white pizza like this, and it absolutely made the dish. This is the white pizza I've been searching for. The kind I will go out of my way to come back for again and again. Unfortunately, the service side of the experience just didn't match the quality of the food that night. The staff was clearly overwhelmed, and it showed throughout the entire visit. Even paying the bill proved to be a challenge -- we eventually walked up to the register and waited in line with DoorDash drivers just to close out. We still left a good tip because the effort was there -- the team was working hard -- but the overall experience inside the restaurant felt chaotic. I had originally planned to grab dessert from their case, but decided to skip it and head elsewhere given the situation. Next time? I'll absolutely be back for that pizza... but I'll likely go the takeout route like many others seem to be doing. Because while the service may have struggled that night, the food -- specifically that white pizza -- is 100% worth coming back for!
