I have been there 4x now over a 3 month period and have never gotten a bad massage. Prices have gone up a little, but it basically is a $ 1.50 a minute and that is not unreasonable. Tokyo Spa has the perfect location, it's located in the Intracoastal MalI and is about a 3 minute walk from Ipic movie theaters. Once you enter the Mall on NE 35st Tokyo Spa's big sign is the first place on the left. So I passed by the other day and the owner was there as well as one of the girls I recognized from Golden Spa. The interior is super clean and modern, they have a huge table shower, I think it's the biggest one I've ever seen. The spa also has walking poles so the masseuse can walk on your back(shiatsu). Besides the typical massage tables they also have the super wide massage tables for bigger people. Being I was in a rush to get to South Beach, I decided to get a 30 minute deep tissue. Just like my many experiences at Golden Spa my muscles survived the pleasure of painful appropriations while the hot stone application became the cherry on the rum raisin sundae. Tokyo has changed ownership several months back and it's obvious. It's female run by an experienced massage business owner, and all the women there are very sweet and work very hard. Most also speak a tiny bit or more English. My husband and I have been coming here for a couple years, but it's more professional now and the therapists are definitely better than the old crew. It's not fancy, and it's still no frills Chinese Massage, so don't go looking for Swedish spa style, but they're good and strong and bring relief. They are experienced and know what they're doing. And if you like their version of "Shiatsu", walking on back of body, they have rooms for this and there is tremendous release in that before starting the rest of Massage session. Upon arrival-we we're taken into our room for a couples massage. Once undressed-both of our masseuses came in but mine was a man! I am writing this review here because this listing is for the same business as "Tokyo Massage". There are not 2 separate business in the same shopping center. Avoid avoid avoid! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I have been here a few times, and only the first time the massage was good. The second and third time the massage so so/so nothing really to come back for. However, my most recent visit it why I will never go back. The woman named "wendy" giving the massage could barely speak English.. Which is normal in miami, but I don't speak Chinese (her language) So there was absolutely no way to Communicate with her. Also, when she first came in she felt that I was not lying on the massage table correctly (which was not true) and proceeded to laugh at me for several minutes (I would have walked out if they didn't make you prepay). The worst part is that this woman had no idea how to give a massage! She clearly did something to the back of my neck because from the next day on it has been hurting. I use Wendy as a massage therapist and she is THE BEST! I have used others there and they are really good too, but Wendy has the most experience it seems. She's really great for neck and shoulder problems. She helped me a lot. Very good place if you suffer from serious injuries and repetitive stress injuries. Just to let you know, Wendy is for SERIOUS problems not for feel good boring light massage. Her specialty is Sports, and if you're not used to it you might be surprised. When I first went I thought it was hard, but I had NO PAIN THE NEXT DAY! I was in really sever pain so this was a HUGE relief! I decided to ask for lighter massage next time- but it didn't help me the next day. So now I get the harder massage and I no longer have neck pain! I'm so happy about this! I suffered for years with electric shock up and down my neck! Does she give hard massage? YES! But she heals you! The next day you feel great! No more pain!!! She's been helping with my shoulder, does it hurt when she massages? Sometimes! But my shoulder is sooo much better, I can lift it above my head with no pain! Made 2 appointments, one for my sister and one for me. When we arrived, we were greated really nicely but were told they are running late by 20 minutes. We went to the dollar store and came back but still had to wait 10 minutes. When they were ready for us they asked if we mind getting massages in the same room, weird! But we said ok. The massages themselves were AMAZING! Strong and thorough. We were very pleased and it was definitely worth the wait even though it messed with our schedule. Would have been nice if it was on time though. When we were done, they sent us off with water bottles and smiles. My masseuse left the room 3 times during the hour long massage.. totaling around 15 minutes of missed massage time. This place is kind of hidden by the movie theater, but worth the search! I asked them for a strong massage and that was exactly what was delivered. It's traditional Qi-gong style. Rooms and facilities are clean and comfortable. Price is not cheap but much less than a spa and well worth it.
