I love this place for sushi! I live in Northern VA but will drive the hour out to Locust Grove just to eat here. The best time to go is during their lunch hours. They have a lunch special for two rolls and miso soup for just under 8 dollars or three rolls for under 11 dollars. The sushi is very fresh and because of that it just tastes better!! First off, I am extremely shocked at the high reviews for this place.. Was average at best, and that is a stretch.... My order 1. Sashimi Deluxe- some of the pieces of fish tasted like water, almost as if they quickly defrosted under running water, the salmon tasted good though 2. Spicy seafood salad- essentially a few pieces of shredded imitation crab meat and cucumbers, certainly not worth 5.... not sure they should call it a a seafood salad 3. House salad- was ok the dressing was sweet not your typical peanut based dressing 4. Tuna roll w/ cream cheese something just wasn't right with this.. The rice was extremely wet 5. Amazing sushi and excellent service all hidden away from the big city. Yes, this place is not close to the dc metro but it is worthwhile to make the hike and eat here if you do happen to live in the dc metro area. The place is small and cozy. Well kept and looks like your typical japanese sushi place. The service here is very friendly and quick to respond. The food is so delicious! This is definitely my personal fav in the area. Awful. Hibachi chicken dinner was dry and tough, as if it had been sitting since the lunch rush and reheated. I guess the sauce must be VERY hard to come by -- there was almost none. Same with the shrimp. Mostly "fried" rice (I counted TWO pieces of carrot in the tasteless rice) and a tiny bit of veggie. The sushi roll was questionable. The yellowtail tasted less-than-fresh. This place used to be pretty good for a strip mall hole in the wall. Not any more. Next time, I'll make a PBJ at home. At least it would meet expectations. read more

I came in for lunch around 12:45 p.m. Ordered hot tea and lunch special hibachi shrimp and chicken. I received a mug of warm water with a tea bag in it. Then the server brought out the house soup. Followed with my lunch plate. The food was delicious. Other than myself there was one other booth which had two women. The server never came back to check on me or to ask how the food was. After I slid my plate to the edge of the table the server then brought me my bill. The one cup of hot tea was $1.95. I finished it before I was 1/3 of the way through my meal . I would have ordered another drink had a server come back by the table . After paying for my bill I asked for a cup of iced tea to go. The server charged me for an iced tea to go. I handed her back the cup and said no thank you I just paid $1.95 for one cup of tea. I let her know I would have ordered a drink while I was still eating had somebody come by the table. I left the tip on the card and some extra cash but I won't be back again. read more

I went to this small, hidden-away restaurant with my family fully expecting to not have an enjoyable meal since I'm not a big fan of Japanese food. I was happily surprised and enjoyed the meal greatly. Personally I had the hibachi shrimp with rice and veggies. I loved it. Generous serving of shrimp and done perfectly. Others had hibachi checked and steak and hibachi veggies. Everyone enjoyed their dish. The meal started with a soup and the main course followed quickly. It felt comfy being there though our server didn't seem very enthusiastic. I think they're a bit overpriced for what you get. One friend remarked the presentation wasn't traditional Japanese in that it was not beautifully arranged on the plate. It was more like "hash-house" style. The also need to upgrade their ventilation system as one member of our group was having trouble breathing from the kitchen fumes that were all around us. No one tried the sushi so I can't comment on that. Would I return? You bet. read more

The owners are a wonderful young couple who work extremely hard and are here DAILY. If you come in for dinner or lunch one or both are likely waiting on you or making your sushi. This is a tiny place at one end of a strip mall. Its a typical Japanese-style hibachi place, but they don't have enough room for hibachi tables, so your food is cooked in the back. Tokyo is one of my favorite restaurants and has the most caring and professional owners. Although the food is good, the owners are despicable. They take the tips away from the servers and don't allow them to have the tips. When I tip, I'm tipping my SERVERS... I am NOT tipping the owners. I'm tipping for the service that those individuals have provided and for you to take their tips is absolutely atrocious. And I know this is true because I know individuals who worked there and never received their tips. Don't support a place that doesn't respect their workers. I have always been pleased with this restaurant. I typically get together once a year and eat here with a group of friends. We used to rotate which restaurant we would visit, but have decided in the past few years that Tokyo is the place to go. The staff is always friendly and takes good care of us. The food is well priced, but tasty. I have always liked Japanese steakhouses, but can't go often due to the price. Tokyo allows me to get the food I like, but not break the bank. I shared an order with my friend and I told the woman who took our order that I was sharing with her and the woman did not bring a extra plate, did not check on our table. (There was 4 of us there).
