Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the service was incredibly slow. I enjoyed everything we ordered, all the apps and sushi rolls were amazing and you can tell the fish was very fresh. Our waitress was kind and brought out a couple complimentary desserts since it was my friend's birthday. I decided to order takeout from this restaurant based on the high ratings on Yelp. I realize these ratings were likely for the sushi that I didn't order. Therefore, this review is specific to our order of non-sushi dinners. Ordered Honey Sesame Chicken and Hibachi Chicken. This restaurant is located in a strip mall on Alexis between Lewis and Telegraph. It's very easy to pass by if you're not familiar with the area- even with GPS. Upon entering, the restaurant was very pleasant and with an open concept setup. I didn't focus on the ambiance because I just wanted to pick up our food and run. The person who rang me up was very pleasant and prices were slightly lower than indicated on the online menu, which was a nice surprise. Upon getting our orders home, there were two different extra sauces or soups in larger soup-like containers. They seemed like broth with little bits of fat along with a couple of mushrooms in one and the other seemed less fatty but couldn't tell what it was... So we tasted but didn't eat them. There were also two small containers of sauces that I believe went with my Hibachi Chicken entree. There were also two small salads that were not expected. Unfortunately the salads were basically iceberg lettuce with exactly one cucumber in each container, no tomato, along with a container of dressing. Honestly, the salads weren't overly fresh, so I ate the cucumber and pitched the salad rather than risk getting sick. My mom ate part of her salad and commented that it was the very inner tougher part of the iceberg lettuce. While we were impressed initially that salads were included, the quality was disappointing. My mom had ordered the Honey Sesame Chicken based on the recommendation of the person I spoke with on the phone when ordering. Preferences vary of course, but my mom found the sauce extremely sweet and that the chicken was beyond lightly breaded. I had a bite and thought it tasted similar to sweet and sour chicken but more heavy on the sweet. Also agreed there was more breading than actual chicken. The presentation was beautiful, however, and the broccoli looked fresh. When I initially saw my Hibachi Chicken I was excited to try it. It came with a very generous portion of chicken, some broccoli, zucchini, a few mushrooms and onions. I substituted white rice instead of chicken fried rice. The chicken was overcooked and dry, not tender even when attempting to cut with a knife. The hibachi grill also left an odd sort of burnt bitter taste that wasn't to my liking. I could understand why extra sauces were included, though neither could remedy the dryness of the overcooked chicken. Unfortunately, the broccoli and zucchini had the same bitter burnt flavor. I ate part of my order and put the rest in the fridge, feeling guilty for wanting to throw it in the trash. My dog seemed to like the few bites I shared, so maybe it can be salvaged tomorrow. As mentioned, perhaps this restaurant is best known for its sushi. However, based on our entrees, I don't plan to return and have therefore rated according to our experience. read more

This is a great local spot that is in a very convenient location right on Alexis. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall and the restaurant has clear signage to let you know where to go. We ordered sashimi, a few rolls and a side of noodles. All items were very good and fresh. The fried shrimp tempura roll is my favorite and I enjoyed the crunch and freshness of the fried shrimp. The sashimi was mild in flavor and neatly cut and presented. The noodles were a little salty but served hot and fresh. Our server was attentive and the restaurant and restrooms were clean. I will definitely be back to satisfy my next sushi craving. Give this place a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

Tokyo is serving up some of the better tasting sushi I've had in Toledo, in recent memory. Located in a working class neighborhood, near the Michigan border, you've likely driven past it a million times without ever thinking of stopping. I am here to tell you, next time, to stop! Or... order for delivery, because Tokyo not only serves up delicious food, but they offer pretty speedy take-out and delivery options! My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that everything we've tried that is marked with a flame on the menu as spicy, doesn't even have a bit of heat. First time trying this place... wonderful!!! In town for the holidays visiting my dad in the Michigan area. I haven't had sushi since embarking on my travels from Las Vegas. He doesn't have the opportunity to have any fresh sushi or any fish. I found Tokyo here on Yelp, great reviews, website and menu (such a variety)!! The location was easy to find as well. Decorated for Christmas The staff is wonderful. Our server, she was so sweet! It wasn't too busy at that time, but busy enough for our server. She was on it and handled it all very well and the food came out quick! The manager even took her time to stop by our table and ask how everything was and if we needed anything. First visit here. The server was very nice and kept busy. She had many other tables to serve as well. We had a party of 7. The server kept our drinks coming and any appetizers were pretty quick. We ordered quite a few different sushi items, hibachi lover, honey sesame chicken, and soups. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and after dinner they played happy birthday and served her a piece of deep-fried cheesecake which was very good! My mom, my daughter, and I stopped into Tokyo sushi while my dad was at St. Vincent's hospital. We were all craving sushi so I did a quick Yelp search. I really liked the reviews that I read so I decided to stop by for some sushi! My mom started off with a ginger salad, my daughter started off with some edamame, and I started off with a spicy kani salad. The ginger salad was pretty large in size. I really liked the ginger dressing that was on the salad. It was very flavorful! My kani salad was really good! There was a lot of crab and cucumber (underneath the huge scoop tempura flakes on top - I would suggest ordering the kani salad without the tempura flakes on top). My mom ordered the dragon roll and the spicy tuna roll. She really enjoyed them both. I ordered the rainbow roll and crazy roll. I really enjoyed the rainbow roll, but not the crazy roll. The crazy roll was deep-fried which I did not like. It's not listed in the menu that it's deep-fried either. I really like how they dress the sushi rolls though - they are really beautiful! My daughter ordered the chicken nuggets and fries. While her food came out piping hot and fresh, there was something off with the chicken nuggets. We got 5 rolls...ocean roll, Hawaii roll, Las Vegas roll, spicy tuna and phili roll...all fantastic. The money bag app was AMAZING. The inside is very spacious, clean and charming. Where do I start with this review? In a word: Excellent! This was one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. I read the reviews before coming to Tokyo Sushi & Steak, and not only were the reviews accurate, they understated the gastronomic experience I would have. We started out with the calamari appetizer, and it only got better from there. The sushi was clean, fresh and tasty. We had some at the table ( of our party of 8) that ordered the succulent hibachi dishes, these were also beautifully prepared and presented. The salmon was the best I've ever tasted.The other awesome thing is the kid's menu. The chicken nuggets are not some frozen, processed, shapes of gray globs of byproduct, but actual chunks of chicken in a house made breading. The service was timely and outstanding! Our server was attentive, engaging and friendly. Some other reviews call this a "hidden gem." I agree, and after experiencing the food and service, would rate it diamond status. If you are a sushi connoisseur and want the freshest, tastiest, most creative dishes, you would be doing a great disservice to yourself by not giving this restaurant a try. You will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is bright, lively and beautiful, while also relaxing while not being too busy optically. The restaurant and bathrooms are impeccably immaculate. We also had the fried cheesecake for dessert. I would come back for that in and of itself. But, there is no way I would come here without getting some of the savory offerings. I will be coming back here with friends, and want to try everything on the menu. If you like Japanese food, this is a MUST. read more
