It's a very busy area. I had this restaurant on my to-try list based upon positive Yelp reviews. However, the Health Score caught my attention. I believe there were 38 health violations. Based on a comparison of other restaurants, this is far below average and I therefore feel justified in scoring this restaurant accordingly. I would not go to a restaurant with this negative rating on any day or time of the week. That, of course, is my opinion based upon the Health Department's evaluation. When I inquired about the Steamed 2 Special, I was told I needed to order the #4 Chicken and Shrimp Teriyaki. There appeared to be a language barrier and so I settled on the #4 with very light Teriyaki sauce. When I specified the vegetable as broccoli, I watched as the counter person scooped pre-prepared broccoli onto the styrofoam plate. While I had hoped the broccoli would be freshly made along with the shrimp and chicken, I saw that it was not an option without an argument- and I had already had too long a day. The chicken and shrimp teriyaki was actually not bad. However, the pre-cooked broccoli had an awfully bitter aftertaste. I ate what I could and tossed the rest as not worth saving due to the quality of the broccoli and the bitter aftertaste it left on anything it touched. Since I ate in the Food Court at the Mall, the ambiance was very casual and very public- basically just a place to sit and eat your meal. I noticed workers trying to keep the area clean, which I appreciated. My experience at Nori Japan was a very basic meal that wasn't horrible overall. There are many choices at the food court to find what you like - and Nori Japan may be to your taste!

They have a great selection of Yakitori for those looking for something different. My husband had the Beef Tongue, Pork Belly, and the Kurobuta (Berkshire pork) Sausage. He enjoyed all of them. The sausage was good, but it tasted like a fairly typical sausage and was on the smaller side. I had the Mango Kengo roll, which was very well done. The salmon was incredibly fresh. It was a little spicier than I prefer because of the Togarashi seasoning, which also seems to accompany many of the yakitori dishes. We also ordered the Ika Maruyaki (grilled squid). We both love squid, especially when it's prepared this way, but this dish just wasn't as good as we had hoped. We were both a little underwhelmed. The sushi and sashimi were beautifully sliced, incredibly fresh, and definitely high quality. I tried the Madai for the first time and really enjoyed it. The omakase is a must experience for any foodie and especially for anyone who loves sushi & yakitori! Came here for the first time 4 years ago, and again a few weeks ago. What struck me is that the same head sushi chef was there then and now and that they haven't really changed the menu too much. Yes absolutely there were new and creative twists, but there are tried and true staples which have been mastered. That feels like their vibe overall - friendly, neighborly, confidence in what they have and will keep doing what they're doing, seemingly resisting any pressure to expand or get bigger. It's perfection! The omakase menu has three phases: chef's kitchen, yakitori, sushi (gorgeous nigiri courses finished with the most insane cut roll I've ever had). Everything is delicious. No misses. My favorite phase is the sushi. We STARTED that off with the most melty buttery otoro. I thought that was bold, surely it could only go downhill from there. I was proved wrong bite after bite!! Seriously, imagine a series of nigiri bites that hold their own after the BEST. Of the yakitori, the chicken meatballs were my fave, so juicy never change. Highest quality, well crafted, expertly executed menu. Lowkey I also love that this omakase ends with the most delicious cut roll, and not dessert.
