This small airport used to serve as a nice, more navigable, lower stress alternative to DTW. Nowadays, however, it is a shell of what it used to be, and I find that extremely regrettable. It is too close to DTW, which cannibalizes much of TOL's would-be business, and the City of Toledo is not in the economic condition it used to be making it less attractive as an airline destination. I am hoping newer upstarts such as Avelo and Breeze (or similar future airlines) can help revive this and other airports like it. In the 80s and 90s, as many as seven airlines made use of TOL at any given time. The activity involved as many as 40 flights to 14 destinations. This small airport with its 9-gate terminal actually peaked in 1997 with nearly 689,000 passengers. Years of decline accelerated by the recession resulted in Amercan Airlines as the only remaining legacy airline by the mid-2010s. Traffic declined to well less than 200K passengers, but a mini boom started in 2015 led by the popularity of AA's TOL to Charlotte, NC route. This resulted in a peak of nearly 250K passengers in 2018. But then COVID happened and by 2022, AA was gone leaving just Allegiant's specialized service as the sole commercial operator. I started using the airport when I moved where I am currently in SE Michigan in 2005. I routinely took NW/Delta to DTW. There I connected to where I needed to go. Unfortunately, Delta pulled out in 2011. I used it a few more times to fly AA to ORD, but I can count those times on one hand. I loved using this airport for many reasons. It was much easier for my wife to drop me at and pick me up from TOL than from DTW. It was half the drive time from my home and it was much, much easier to get in and out of the facility. When I did need to park and fly, it was MUCH cheaper to do so relative to the usurious rates charged for parking at DTW. Check-in was a breeze and the security was easy. TSA was friendly and comparatively easy to deal with. I could get here an hour or even 45 minutes before flight time and still make my flight (not that I would have recommended doing so). And upon arrival, the small baggage claim area with just two carousels made luggage collection and getaway much quicker. I miss this easy alternative. Nowadays, I use TOL strictly for an occasional rental car pickup. The only airline operating from TOL is Allegiant, which specializes in FL vacation destinations. These are not where I typically need (or want) to go. It has probably been five or six years since I last flew from TOL. I hope at some point TOL can make a comeback. Somehow, the decline and demise of smaller airports just seems synonymous with faceless corporate smothering of America. This is a nice little airport that could serve a commercial purpose with just a little help, some imagination and less greed. A city of nearly 250K-plus people should have an airport of their own as a matter of pride, independence and identity. I realize economics drives decisions on these things, but perhaps having that as the overwhelming criterion for decision-making is part of the problem. Thankful for this airport and the inexpensive allegiant tickets I can get to there. It's extremely small. If you get there earlier than security is set up, then you have to wait for them to let you thru the check point. There's a subway and a bar and there's a sign for pizza but I've never seen pizza. They also have a small cafe connected to the subway. There's also plenty of tables to eat your food at. A nice airport attendant gave my daughter an airplane shaped stress ball. And all the other kids at the airport also. read more

It has been about 20 years since I have flown out of Toledo airport. Today we are flying out to St. Petersburg Florida. We got here an hour and a half early. The lines were short and the people who work here are super helpful and professional. It does cost a little extra to fly from here than from Detroit but I will gladly pay more just so I won't be treated like I didn't pay for my ticket. The bigger airports treat you like they are doing you a favor by letting you into the airport and letting you fly out of their facility. Traveling is stressful, I normally don't sleep well the night before and I am anxious at the airport because of all the security, My anxiety level was pretty low today. In the future I will try to fly out of Toledo express if I can. I hope they get flights to more destinations. The food court is small, it has a bar, a Subway, some kinda coffee and smoothie place and a Tea's Pizza. Not much but adequate- when you aren't hanging out at the airport for two or more hours, you don't need much. read more

So I travel in and out of a lot of airports but this one always seems under staffed and halfa$$ backwards. I stood in TSA checkout this morning for what seemed like forever because the pre check and the scanner were being operated by the same person. I arrive at my gate and it says it is a flight to Charolette. I check my AA app and it still shows my flight departing from this gate. While awaiting my flight to board every few minutes this annoying sounds blasts over the loud speaker that resembles a busy signal on an old landline. I swear it beeps 15 or 20 times. Not what I would prefer to hear at 6:30am I think the airport should do a better job of notifying the airlines when changes are made read more

Park on the runway and climb onto your plane! It's not quite that easy at Toledo Express, but it almost is. Flights in and out are limited. BUT, if they have the flight that you need (even if there is an extra connecting flight) I would highly recommend flying out of, or into, this airport. If you live in any of Toledo's southern or western suburbs, or any town to the south or west, flying out of TEA, as opposed to Detroit Metro, will save you between 2 and 3 hours. Personally, I HATE waiting in lines, and the lines at Detroit Metro are epic. At Toledo Express, the lines are no big deal. Astoundingly, the TSA agents at Toledo are actually courteous and helpful. Overall, this great little airport is a great big asset to the Toledo metro area! read more

Toledo Express Airport is very small - but is also very cozy and convenient! Flying into here - very easy to get down to the Hertz counter, Baggage claim, and then out to the car. Took less than 15 minutes to do everything and get out on the road. Coming back - easy to park the rental car, walk in, drop off the keys, hit the American Airlines check in counter - zero line. Then through the TSA Security Checkpoint - again - no line = awesome! And the TSA folks at Toledo Express are actually friendly, fun, and nice! The TSA folks at Dulles could learn a few things from these folks. After security - we headed up to Gate 3, and then found some places to set up shop next door by the bar - plugged in our devices to charge up and got some work done for a couple hours before our flight. The food court area consists of a Subway, coffee shop, Tea something or other, and a full bar. Again - very cozy and everyone that works here is friendly and nice! If you are looking out the windows at the runways - you might have the opportunity to see some military jets landing and taking off - I'm guessing there is an Air National Guard facility here as well. I look forward to flying in and out of Toledo Express Airport again! read more

Moved out here to a small nearby town all the way from Los Angeles in the middle of a very snowy winter after a short layover in North Carolina and arrived around midnight. The staff I interacted with was great and literally just one guy but he even helped me find the way out (I have autism so I get lost easy) and was super kind and welcomed me to Ohio. The only other people there aside who was picking me up were police and they were nice as well. Local airports rather than big international ones are always much calmer and nicer. read more

From now on, I'm using TOL rather than DTW. It means a little more layover time in ORD, ATL/CLT from TLH - but well worth it. 1. It feels like a high-end General Aviation terminal. 2. I had the good fortune of flying into TOL during my most recent trip home to NWO, by way of a layover in Chicago. While I normally would have flown into DTW, I found a smoking deal to arrive at this much closer airport. TOL is by no means the most lavish airport, the glitziest or architecturally stimulating. But, it possesses a certain charm that ranks it high on my airport monitor. Plus, this was the first airport that I ever went to, to see off my uncle as he returned home to Texas. (I was 8, I believe.) The bar in the terminal has decent drinks and friendly staff, which after visiting my family can be a very beneficial service. Considering TOL is about half an hour from my parents' house, I hope to make TOL my preferred airport for flights home. I hope the mutterings about this airport closing are just paranoid gossip, because it's a nice alternative to DTW. read more

If you plan on taking baggage, just book a flight to Detroit. waited over 2 hours after plane landed for luggage and no reason was given during or after luggage came. This place is tiny to end all tininess, but that's a major benefit... You barely have to show up more than 45 mins ahead of your departure time. Security is a breeze (usually there are only 1-3 people going thru it at any given time). The counter staff is all very helpful, the facilities are clean, and parking is cheap by the day, if you need to take advantage of that. The food offerings are pretty bad, but there is a bar and ice cream right there by the gate. What more do you need? We have family in Toledo and they always ask us if it's not cheaper to fly us into Detroit, but it never is... for the convenience of the location at the same price... why not? This place does so little domestic business, it would surely be closed if not for the corporate jet testing whatnots they do there. read more

Easy navigation, but TSA was awful. The lady was very rude. The scanner went off on all our pelvis areas and had to (to be blunt) pat down very roughly on our vaginas. I am in no way pleased at all with their service or common decency. read more

I have been in some small airports before. Heck once I was in Vail Colorado and our flight came in late and the airport actually closed on us. I mean could you imagine an airport closing on you? But I think TOL takes the prize as littlest airport ever. However I have to say, size is not everything. In this case, TOL is better because of it. For the first time ever, I was in a security line with only one person in it... ME. I literally walked right through. From the time the driver dropped me off to the time I was sitting at my gate, we are talking 5 minutes max. Now I will say, 5 TSA agents for little old me seems like a bit much but hey if that means I get to breeze through, I approve. There are a few snack bars in the terminal, even a Subway. I decided to skip the snacks and save my per diem for ORD as they have some awesome places to eat but of you are hungry at least you have a few options. So overall I like TOL, it is a quaint little airport for a quaint little town. I know flying into Detroit can be cheaper, but hey why not skip the hour drive and spend your money in the local economy instead? read more

This place isn't so bad. I'd much rather fly into TOL than Detroit any day. It's a small regional airport, which means the lines for TSA and security were super short. Upstairs there's a small eating area (Subway, Hot Dogs, and Pizza) as well as a bar. Please note, the bar doesn't have any exotic beers or craft beers on tap. They did have Yueingling, which the bartender offered instead of the Sam Adams Oktoberfest I requested. I politely declined. So, it's definitely not an airport for city slickers like myself, but the people were really friendly. Ticket and gate agents were super friendly as well. Plus, it was fun to fly on small regional jet for a change. read more

The fact that you can get through security without seeing another passenger makes this the perfect Airport. The security staff smile at you! Sadly it seems like there may be only about two direct flights from Toledo to anywhere other than DTW so it's a rare opportunity to fly from here. I'll just keep hoping it hangs on. read more

Smallest airport I've been to..I think this airport only has the small commuter planes (hence express airport). The good thing about this airport is you can come in an hour before your flight and you won't be late. I flew in for work and flew out of here as well. read more

Closed down security early and nobody was there, we would have made our flight except there was no TSA to be seen!! Have flown in and there is an alarm going off but because there was literally nobody working there it kept going off the whole time I was there. This is so much easier than flying into Detroit if you live in the Toledo area. The American Airlines staff is so friendly and go out of their way to help customers. A couple in front of me was trying to check bags for a flight that left in less than 20 minutes. Instead of denying this like any larger airport would have for missing the cut off time, she called the supervisor and he ran down and handled the baggage himself. You would never get that service at another airport. TSA lines are non existent and you can check bags, go through security and be at your gate in about 10 to 15 minutes. Cute airport with plenty of parking. There was barely a line at security and the whole staff is really nice. There is free wifi and outlets along the windows which is a huge help when traveling. The only thing I would like to see improve is the food court area. There is a subway, snack bar, coffee bar and real bar, but not many options. read more
