This was amazing! Me and my family went here for 2 nights for a little getaway. The TV had good channels on it and which some other hotels have horrible channels and their TV. The pool was super amazing but on of the hot tubs (spa no.1) was super chlorinated and half of the kids at the pool went in that one and was coughing a LOT. Even one girl almost threw up. I tried their tea in the room and it's kind of good,I just wish they had green tea. The arcade was kind of fun but just a warning the claw machines are somewhat rigged. I live in a family of 5 so the hotel room wasn't big enough so I slept on a roll-away bed (I think that is want its call) I wasn't forced to sleep on it I just wanted to. We also went on walk and stoped to play at the park. I'm only 13 so keep that in mind. We went to the restaurant at the hotel and the food was great. read more

A Gem in the Ohio State Park system. Quirky dining hours when open; however, several nearby restaurants. Pay extra for a Lake View room. Very beautiful property, and spring is our favorite visit. As a mature family we avoid weekends, and recommend mid-week visit. Lots to do and experience. We have enjoyed a cabin visit, and in our view prefer a high lodge room. read more

I have stayed here several times now for work. Our fall pastor's retreat has been held here the last couple of years. The rooms are nice and clean. I love the shower! I wish my shower at home was this big and such! The resort has so much to do! It is an absolutely beautiful place to walk around and hike the various trails. There are maps available of all of those trails. For golfers (which I am not), they have a golf course. There's a swimming pool, splash of area for kids, hot tubs, a fitness center, and an arcade. There are 2 restaurants and a gift shop in the resort as well. However, I haven't eaten at either restaurant so I cannot attest to the food or service. Our retreat was held upstairs in the banquet areas and was catered by that team. The food we had for our retreat was fantastic! I am gluten free and the option they had for those of us who are GF on the pasta night was chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. It was delicious! Overall, I have really enjoyed my stays at Maumee Bay State Park. I do think it's rather expensive and the wifi isn't completely reliable. Those are 2 big downers. However, I wasn't paying for the room out of my own pocket for this retreat. read more

Tip: The Wifi is horrible, and needs a serious upgrade. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed this State Park lodge. We found out that it was built in 1991 and per the reviews and friends this is the nicest state park lodge in Ohio. It truly was a nice lodge. The room was spacious and even though we didn't pay extra for a lake view we had beautiful trees in front of our balcony where we could see the occasional warbler and other birds. I wasn't a huge fan of the rate per night. We have stayed at other hotels at the same rate and received free hot breakfast and free hot dinner. I feel that this place could at least do something similar. I loved all the chairs everywhere throughout the lodge. That was a nice touch that I would love to see other places. There was lots of choices when it came to activities that one could do when staying here. A pool with a splash pad for kids, spa, sauna, fitness center. There was an indoor kids play area as well as one outside. There was a racket ball court & a Wallyball court. Outside there was a nice trail that led to the nature center. There was free coffee in the lobby that was always fresh and hot, I appreciated that! I loved the fireplace in the lobby with rocking chairs. We had a great stay, I have 2 complaints: 1. The 3% beautification fee that was tacked on everything from our total stay to the dining room food. 2. The WiFi was awful! It kept disconnecting us and since the area is a dead zone it made it impossible to find restaurants in the area or getting Waze to load. read more

Our three night stay was relaxing and fun! The two queen room was spacious, with plenty of room for the pack n play where our daughter sleeps. There was a nice built in bench, although it could have used some light over it. We also had a desk and chair, a table and two chairs, and a sliding door to a nice balcony. The front side of the building (not lake view) had trees lining the balconies, and we were able to do some birdwatching from right there at the window. There are trails for additional birdwatching. The trail also leads to a nature center, reviewed separately. There are plenty of sidewalks on the lake side of the lodge, lots of green grass, and a nice view of the lake, or technically the bay. This region is known to be a great spot to see warblers at certain times of the year, and even though it was past the time, we still saw plenty. The indoor pool was rather large: ranges from 3 ft deep to 5 ft. There are two hot tubs and a little splash pad with six water spouts. The splash pad was on a timer so as not to waste water. It also had a spout that sprays into the pool. We saw signs for saunas nearby, but didn't check them out. The indoor play room for the kids was great! Not a ton of stuff there but enough to entertain my toddler for about 20 minutes and not many things can do that! My only complaint is the WiFi: it was terrible. It kept kicking our devices off. If you want to disconnect, this is the place. If you still want access to internet, prepare to be annoyed. The whole area is a dead zone so you're completely dependent on the terrible WiFi connection. We ate breakfast at the Water's Edge, the restaurant located in the lodge, and we found plenty of tasty food in nearby Toledo for our other meals. The whole lodge has a nice homey feel: fireplaces, free coffee in the lobby, comfy chairs everywhere. The stay was on the expensive side for only free coffee in the lobby: no meals, no snacks, etc. read more

Disappointing Sad Dated For years I've wanted to spend the evening at this beautiful park. This wasn't what at all I had hoped for. We asked for a pool lake view; we received a room with a broken seal in the window so any views that we may have had were obscured. Check in was at 4; but the pool closed at 9. Check out was at 11. With the half hour closings every hour. That left very little time for pool. The rooms carpet was old and dated and didn't seem clean. There was little to no seating in the room. The shower had zero water pressure. There was no room to place garbage. The ice machine made about 10 cubes at a time. No one on staff was friendly or helpful. In fact when we checked out and mentioned the window the receptionist told us I wish you would have mentioned that last night we would have washed the window. They offered no discount no alternative way to make it right. She also acted offended that we had even mentioned the problem. Not sure I'll ever return. Definitely not a hotel experience. read more

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this experience was not as good as hoped. The rooms are fine, clean with a modern bathroom. The pools are ok. The restaurant is like every restaurant in this area: just average at best, and overpriced. With COVID-19, there are no activities. Just an average but overpriced stay. read more

Well, there was a lot I liked about this resort. The circumstances surrounding our stay were unfortunate, though, and I docked a star. I came with a group of women for a conference and really enjoyed mysself. The room was clean and beautiful with a gorgeous view. The bathroom shower was very powerful and unique. There were side jets and everything! The service and staff were friendly and the breakfast buffet food was tasty. My complaint is that several women in our group were not comfortable attending with a pandemic and national emergency and the lodge would not refund their stay. It really forced some of us to choose between potential risks to our health and our investment for a conference. Every other place that holds gatherings has cancelled events and refunded. I was disappointed that they did not give that options when requested. read more

Came down for a wedding and didn't think I would be able to get a uber or lyft late at night so figured better just book at the resort to be safe. Called to get a room that was part of the wedding party block, they only had one room left but was "Lakeside View" so figured it must be decent. 250.00 to rent the room, I thought that was a bit steep especially for Maumee Ohio, I've paid less for hotels in downtown Chicago for that, so figured this place must be really nice! Hopes quickly began to fade the moment we turned onto the property. After driving through a very mediocre looking golf course we pulled up to the lodge. Lobby very average, a bit out dated, nothing fancy, really starting to question why the place was so expensive but hey maybe the room will be sweet. At check in they give you special wrist bans for the pool, so ok here we go the pool has to be sweet if you need wrist bans to get in. Stop by the pools on the way to room and they are just your average swimming pools! Any hotel would have a pool like this, nothing unique about them at all. After reaching our room again we are underwhelmed. Average room, nothing really special, standard bathroom, broken tv that didn't work, "lakeview" must be better higher up because on the first floor its just an expanse of grass with the lake a good 150 yards off. Place looks like it has not been updated since the mid 90s. I had a great time at the wedding hanging out with friends, but the lodge itself is way overpriced for what you get. They need to cut their prices in half, paying 250.00 for a room when the place is honestly worth 130 max. Its not like the place is dirty, or the people rude, its just so overpriced for what you get, the lodge is pretty interchangeable with any roadside hotel you would stop at across the country. read more

A few weeks back my family and I stayed a couple of nights inside the Maumee Bay State Park at the Lodge. Maumee Bay is located in the northwest corner of Ohio near Toledo. The park features fishing, bicycling, wildlife viewing, and plenty of swimming. It seems that the Lake Erie beach often has high bacteria levels, so swimming is not advised here. The only time we entered the water of Lake Erie was to go on the banana boat or jet ski rentals. Instead there is the Inland Lake, which has a wide swimming beach, plus another area for canoeing and fishing. We brought along a couple of bikes to enjoy on the numerous paved and unpaved biking and hiking trails. Biking is not allowed on the boardwalk around the wetlands surrounding the nature center, but it is well worth checking out on foot. The Lodge was a great place to stay with both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, multiple dining options, every sport court imaginable, and tons for the kids to do. In addition to rooms in the Lodge, cottages and cabins are also available for rent. We are already talking about going back up for another visit in November for Thanksgiving with my in-laws. They came along on this trip as well, and everyone seemed to love our stay. Maumee Bay has easily become my favorite state park resort. read more

We had the worst experience when staying here last night. We reserved a room for New Year's Eve so that we could take our 7 year old swimming. When we checked in they told us that because of covid the pool was by reservation only and all reservations were full for the night so we wouldn't be able to swim. This was quite disappointing but we asked what about swimming the next morning. She told us that we would have to call at 8am the next morning and reserve a spot that it cannot be done the night before. We were disappointed but figured we would play in the arcade for a bit and then just sit at one of the couches by the fireplaces and wait for almost midnight and watch the ball drop. We went to the arcade and only two games were working, the others were all out of order. After we went for a walk around the hotel to check it out when an employee was standing at the end of the hall and was telling everyone that they needed to go back to their rooms because 10pm is shut down and no one could be out of their rooms! WHAT? I am locked into my room? Lastly the next morning, we called the front desk at 7:55 to make our swim reservation for the morning (because we were told we cannot make a reservation until 8am) and a extremely rude woman answered the phone and when I told her we were looking to make our swim reservation for this morning she laughed and said we don't have anything available except 1pm today. I asked how that was possible since I'm calling a couple of minutes before the 8am start of reservations. She just rudely said, I said I have 1 pm, that's it. So do you want it? I told her no thank you since check out was prior to 1 that wouldn't work. She said ok thanks and hung up. Also, for a hotel during a pandemic, you would think would be much cleaner. The room looked as if it only got a quick wipe down and I'm not even sure they had cleaned the shower. We will never visit Maumee Bay Resort again, and will tell anyone we know who plans to visit the area to think twice about staying with them as well. read more

A beautiful lodge. Stayed the weekend for a wedding. The view was gorgeous! They have 2 pools, bikes to use, shuffleboard, gift shop, snack bar with fabulous $3 onion rings, volleyball, racket ball... the lady at the front desk wasn't very welcoming, but it was pretty busy. The room was spacious, great view of Lake Erie and very clean. The restaurant has very slow service for the price and the wetlands have a horrible smell. read more

Our room was full of ants and the mini-fridge kept us both awake throughout the night because it was so loud. We waited over an hour to get our food when eating in their, mostly empty, dining hall (my girlfriend got a parfait and I got an omelet). We rented two bicycles for one hour, at a charge of $26, and they were both broken down to the point of being unsafe. The majority of the boardwalk was closed for repairs, despite the website saying it would be open for the weekend we booked. Our patio was full of spider webs. I really enjoy that park, but I will not be staying there again and would not recommend it to anyone else. On top of all that, the hot tubs were old and gross, the roof looks like it is in disrepair and there was a giant crack in the cement foundation above my patio that didn't exactly inspire confidence. The method in which they charged my card was convoluted. I am careful with my debit card so I asked ahead of time how much money I needed to have available on it, they told me an amount so I made sure I had that available. Then they charged my card, that charge was "on hold" on my account, then charged me again after we checked out and emailed me very sternly when the charge was declined. I then received an email about a declined charge. When I spoke to a manager about all this, after calling about the declined charge, she did not mention any kind of refund or restitution. She simply said their accounting department will be in touch with me tomorrow settle the rest of my debt. read more

I did have a disappointing experience in the restaurant the next day with terribly slow service, but Nicole at the front desk resolved it well. So, I felt it was settled. My guess is my family will spend many more weekends here; it is that nice! read more

Rented a cabin, and ate at the lodge. Party of ~20 with reservation days in advance. We were basically the only ones in the restaurant. Place was under staffed. Took like 2 hours to get food. When it came out it was a giant mess. Tables didn't come out together, a real nightmare. It is a full service hotel, and they had staff catering an event just outside the restaurant. Management could have moved people around... But didn't. Our poor waitress was running around like a crazy person trying her best, but needed help. Boils down to poor management. They did send cheesecakes and coupons for ice cream after complaints as an apology. That said, it is best to avoid the need to apologize in the hospitality arena. PS. Cabin commercial smoke/fire detection also kept going off in error. Very loud, disruptive and disagreeable. read more

I can look out the window and see deer prancing around. Kid friendly with indoor pool and arcade. They also offer bike and cross country skiing rentals. read more

The whole complex is very nice, top to bottom, inside and out. The room is top notch. Bathroom and amenities are great. Love the tea tree bath products. Hot water and shower head is strong too. Bedding is very nice, and I'm real picky. The little buck (plush toy) on the bed is a nice tiuch. TV in the room is the only thing lacking. Halls, carpets and finishes are nice throughout. Common spaces are clean, plush and inviting. Pool, racquet ball court, game room and toddler play area are amazing. Several dozen nice bikes parked outside to use also. The view of the bay is a bonus. I'm here on business but will see about bringing my family back. read more

I was dissatisfied with my room because I spent a considerable sum for a lake view. The seal on the sliding glass door was compromised, and as such, the view was completely obscured. It was apparent that the other rooms, which did not suffer the same issues with their doors, were booked and thus unavailable. As such, I chose to mention the problem on check out. The woman who asked me about my stay told me she wished I had asked her to clean the window when I arrived. I informed her that the issue was the seal, and thus couldn't be corrected by cleaning. The clerk checking me out confirmed this to the woman I was speaking with (presumably a manager) who asked the clerk to confirm a maintenance request had been entered. At this point, the woman with whom I was speaking chose not to speak to me any further, without any attempt to remedy my grievance, or even so much as an apology. I paid for a lake view that was obscured, and as such, I was not provided the room I was promised in our contract. The room appeared to have sanitization measures in place. The outdoor pool itself was clean. There are tons of activities in which one can participate. However, the facility is terribly dated, even despite renovations in progress. The furniture was junky and filthy, the exterior paint was peeling, and the entire exterior was in desperate need of a power wash. All landscaping but three or four beds was seriously neglected, which did not make us feel as if we were enjoying a resort like atmosphere. The check in is 4pm and check out is at 11, so overnighters barely have any time to enjoy the facility, especially when one considers that the pool is closed for half an hour several times during the hours it is open for sanitization and employee use. $180 is too much to spend on a place where we barely had time to enjoy the amenities and moreover, where customer service procedures allow for unpleasantness and charging for an amenity we couldn't enjoy. I was disappointed and I'm not sure I will return. read more

This review is related to the Water's Edge restaurant at the lodge. We went to the restaurant during breakfast hours. We stopped at the hostess's desk to request seating. The hostess leads us to our table, provided us with waters and menus, and we waited for a waitress to take our drink and food orders. We waited...and waited...and waited. Meanwhile, the waitress working our area was attending to all of the tables around us. She even attended to a party who was in the restaurant just to sit, they were not even eating. We continued to wait, while watching her continue to service everyone around us, completely ignoring us. We were seated near the entrance to the kitchen, so just about all of the waitresses working there had to pass by our table multiple times. No one stopped by our table, no one acknowledged us, and no one asked if we had been waited on. Finally, a waitress who was working on the other side of the restaurant, shouted out "does anyone have table 35?" Or something to that extent. No one responded to her. We knew she was referring to our table. Finally, she came over to us and asked if we had been serviced. We responded "no". She told us that there was a mix up and no one knew who had our table. We knew that wasn't the truth. Before we were seated, I noticed that the hostess had a map of the restaurant in front of her. The names of the waitress were listed on the map, and you could see which waitress was responsible for which tables. There was a waitress assigned to our table. She, however, chose not to acknowledge us or service us. All of the waitresses passing by ours ignored us as well. They all saw that we had not been serviced, so that wasn't a legitimate excuse. I wasn't quick to assume this, but I began to feel as if we were being discriminated against. We were the only African-American party in that area, and only 1 of 2 African-American parties in the restaurant. My feelings were confirmed by what we experienced next when a Caucasian party entered the restaurant. I can tell that they did not stop at the hostess's desk because they picked their own table, and they did not have drinks nor menus, which was usually provided by the hostess after seating. They hadn't sat for 5 minutes, before the waitress working our area greeted them, asked if they were eating, took their drink orders, and yelled out "let's get these folks some menus!". Wow! We went through the proper protocol of stopping at the hostess desk and we could not get service. Meanwhile, a Caucasian party did NOT follow proper protocol, went straight into the restaurant, picked out their own table, and they were serviced within minutes of sitting. Needless to say, we will NEVER return to this resort, we will be reporting our experience, and we will be sharing the discrimination that we experienced with others. I know this isn't a "5 star" restaurant, but whether or not someone receives basic service shouldn't be determined by the color of their skin. Period. read more

This place is what you make of it - there's lots to do, and provided your company is right, you can have a great time here. The restaurant is acceptably good, the pool area is nice, and the indoor sports are well-maintained and available. That being said, for as much as they charge for a room, I'd expect some updates. The rubber shower curtains are too industrial, the TVs are still CRT, the furniture looks like early 80s decor, and the common areas are starting to look like dorm lobbies. A nice update (not even a complete reno) would do wonders. That being said, it's one of the best State Park resorts here in Ohio, and easily has the best environment around it. I just wish it felt a bit more of-this-decade. read more

Just went in for desert and a drink but overall was great! Resort was also nice and friendly. We like to go by boat and hang out by the pool. Plenty of docks at a reasonable price. Slips are available for a couple hours or overnight. Most have power if needed and grills available near the docks. read more

I stayed at the resort while on a work trip with a group of coworkers. Being a hotel in a state park I wasn't expecting much. But I was pleasantly surprised. The room was modern with a nice flat screen, a large clean bed and nice furniture. Of course some people will see the word resort and expect a robe and slippers with a luffa in the shower. It's not that kind of place. I'd say it's "Hilton to Best Western with a touch of state park institutional". That said I loved it there. Every employee that I encountered was wonderful. The food was amazing, Maybe the best part of the resort. We had 3 meals there with 12 people in our group and everyone loved everything they ordered. read more

My husband and I came here for Christmas to get away from the family. What a great decision. It's not exceptionally luxurious, but it was clean, modern, and all of the expected amenities were provided. The pool and hot tubs were very nice, it would be a great place to bring a family as there are cabins to rent and lots of things to do. Gorgeous view and access to Lake Erie, beautiful hiking trails, and a great nature center. But the service! The service was excellent. The girls at the front desk were friendly, and accommodating. We ate in the restaurant on Christmas day. The food was excellent and the service was great. I got the pear and walnut salad and my husband got the perch. Both were great! Our server was Tina. Tina obviously loves what she does. She makes great recommendations and is one of the sweetest people I've met in my travels. By the time we had finished, we felt like members of the family. 10 for 10 would do again. read more

We were very excited about our three nights at Maumee Lodge. However, for $350 a night, it was disappointing. The most frustrating part was that our keys did not work three days in a row which forced us to go back to registration each time and have them create new keys. Didn't seem very clean. There were bugs on the ceiling and bugs and all the lights. There y were good parts of it as well but the frustration seem to beat out the good parts. read more

My family did a multi-general weekend at The Lodge at Geneva on the Lake last summer, and enjoyed it so much we decided to try another state park lodge this summer. While I was greatly impressed by the Geneva lodge, I must say that the Maumee Bay resort was even better. I have never stayed at another venue that was so toddler friendly. They have an indoor play area (similar to what many malls have) where kids can run/jump/climb and burn off some energy. They also have a mini spray park with their indoor pool facility that my son loved. The best part is that the pool opens at 7:00am. We've had difficulty at other resorts trying to get my early-rising toddler to understand that the pool doesn't open for 4 more hours. They loan pack-n-plays (sheet included) and high chairs at no charge. We had a two-bedroom cottage that came with beds for 7 people. We were told the 4 bedroom cottages don't actually provide any more space or beds, they're just a different layout (more privacy). I loved that the cottage had 4 porches and lots of natural light. It wasn't fancy or luxurious, but it was clean and functional. We also had a king suite in the lodge, and it was enormous. Two additional king sized beds could easily have fit in the room. read more

We were at Maumee Bay Resort for a wedding. Grounds were very nice. Great for those who like the outdoors and nature - but might need a few modern amenities. Rooms were pretty standard and modern - but could use a little more attention to detail on big cleaning things (update fixtures, cracked tile, patio door didn't slide well, etc.) but daily cleaning was done well (clean sheets, no stains on carpet or walls, clean bathroom, etc.) Front desk staff is wonderful! Cute lil gift shop. Nice areas to sit, chat, relax or play games. Pool looked awesome! I would like to visit again with my family as a group - seems more like what I would visit for. But that's IMO :) Wedding was very nice - again perfect for those who want a pretty but not formal wedding. Also there were other weddings that day as well and none of them interfered w/ the one we were at. It was 80* and direct sun - but we weren't hot as there was a nice breeze coming off the lake. And the following could be because of the bride and grooms choices - but the wedding could have benefited from a wedding coordinator. No matter how many times you attend a wedding you still would like some guidance. (getting people to sit in their seats, releasing and directing people from the ceremony site to the reception, organizing the dinner staff, etc.). And unless we were all missing it - the bathroom is quite a bit away from the outdoor tented reception. Over all a great stay, great wedding and a great time But being the organized freak that I am - could have used a tad more attention to detail. read more

Room was great, but the lady who checked us in completely lost our state parks gift card with $140c she didn't out it on the room like she said, and she didn't put out stays for A's discount in. We spent good money on a loft room with a view and it was really disappointing to see the disorganization. read more

Save your money. Been here a bunch of times, and always had a wonderful time. Not this time. We paid full price for our room, we have to reserve a time (only one hour) for the pool..(although since we've been here, only 2 people have been in pool). The entire hotel is 80 degrees!! We asked if they could turn their air on (it's 70+outside) they said their system is still programed to heat!! Even our room. They told us the best they can do is tell is to sleep with our patio door open. We're on the first floor with three kids, no thanks! Service at the restaurant was great, just feel sorry for the staff in this heat. Probably will not be coming back. read more

The Resort has many activities to do and is in beautiful location ...however we stayed in the lake view deluxe room which was newly remodeled but the cleanliness was terrible ..there was crumbs and food all oer the refrigerator and microwave ..thick dust on lampshades ,dirt and wrappers on floor ....and people who stayed in the floor were loud and in the hallways slamming doors and being very loud til about 1 a.m..the walls are extremely thin ...however the food there was great but will not be staying there again .. read more

Staying for 5th time. Always a great stay for the extended weekend getaway. Waters Edge is a fantastic on site restaurant. The best, of many, is the staff. Especially the front desk. They will do whatever it takes to make your stay memorable. We will be back. read more

Met some friends here for a golf day and spent the night. It is only 60-90 minutes from most Metro-Detroit areas,right on Lake Erie Nice pools indoor and out, lots of things to do like walking and biking trails, basketball courts, raquet/walleyball. Very nice golf course. Very family oriented. If you are looking for a party you will have to make your own. Rooms are very standard but clean and comfy enough, Even though you have views of Lake Erie in the distance all you see are smokestacks pumping all day. If you look hard enough you can see Fermi 2 in Monroe. The restaurant is OK for breakfast, below average for dinners. Anything at Leos or Big Boy would be better than the 25.00 perch or steaks there. The best thing about the dinners was the fresh bread. Everything else was very bland and average. Probably would have been better off ordering pizzas from an off resort place. All in all I did enjoy myself and would go back. A weekend is more than enough though. read more
