I was in there Friday, September 4 fell in love with this little puppy named cookie. They said she wasn't adaptable for days to check back next week. I look on their website this morning. She was up for adoption next I know she's somebody was supposed to call me back never did I would've taken her, but they said she was not allowed to be adopted for a few days. Somehow she got adopted out the next morning kind of suspicious to me. I've only seen one dog website that they even have in their building. I do not understand why I couldn't take her yesterday if she was available to be adopted today this morning Saturday the fifth very I fell in love with that little cookie is her name they said yesterday that she was mean with cats well, she seemed to be as friendly as sweet as could be would've taken her home, but they wouldn't let me. I'm just very unhappy with this place. read more

2024 was a horrible year for me. I lost my angel, I was lost, crying, and just needed to be around another dog, I wasn't sure if I even wanted another. They were very comforting, understanding, and patient. I visited the dogs and met the longest stay at the time. They gave me a little extra time and I adopted her. She's been a lifesaver. This place is near and dear to my heart. Everyone-- it's Lilly's adoption anniversary today! 9 years ago I wandered in just to look at some cute pups, as many of us do. I found an incredibly scared, overweight tan chihuahua formerly named Rita, with a neon green collar huddled in the back corner of her crate. The moment I held her in my arms I knew we had to be with each other. She was severely isolated-- suffering and being treated for a complicated respiratory infection. Someone dropped her off to the humane society with her nails so long they curled under her paws and she could barely walk. She was overweight and yet malnourished. Poor thing was probably eating pizza crusts her whole life. She also had an injury to the top of her tail which I was told was from abuse-- most likely being hit with an item in the shape of a bar. Probably a stick. I could not bare to leave her there. She was my very first dog and my first true love. $100 adoption fee later and Lilly was mine! She is the absolutely best little girl anyone could ever ask for. A little bit of professional training, a proper diet/exercise and she was practically a show dog! I'm crying as I write this because I'm so thankful that I wandered in that day and we found each other. She was 4 years old the day I saw her in that crate. Fast forward and she's been with me 9 years today. It's her rescue anniversary today and I want to shout it from the rooftops. Thank you Toledo Humane Society. She means so much to me! read more

They had nice quality items to support the human society animals. The prices were reasonable too, much better than the items at Goodwill.

Over the years, I've made three attempts at having the Humane Society of Toledo remove dogs that were being ill-treated by their "custodians". I assumed they were supposed to give a voice to those animals who are powerless to change their circumstances. My most recent action became just another disappointment for me. It's apparent that by using a very narrowly-tailored set of criteria, "quality of life" is considered insignificant unless the dog is suffering in extremis. It's a shame the number of excuses used by the Humane Society to keep animals in such deficient environments rather than the other way around. While their adoption events do give homes to those in need, I believe many of us who know the benefits of compassion and kindness towards our furry friends would be appalled at those the Society leaves behind. read more

My family adopted a dog named Katey and we changed her name to larkie when we first got her and couldn't be more happier about welcoming a dog into a family. we thank this shelter for giving us an opportunity to rescue such a loving creature.The workers are very kind, and they're quick too. One thing i dislike is that their older dogs are in the back, not giving them much of an opportunity to be seen. but right when you walk in they give you directions to more dogs. They are so friendly and easy to work with. You are allowed to go and look at the animals; they will bring them out for you to walk, pet, handle, interact with. All are thoroughly checked out by a vet, they take your picture with your new pet, and they send you home with a bag of food and treats. Then they follow up later. The building was clean and the adoption process went really smooth. My two complaints are that the volunteer in the kitten room was very pushy/opinionated on which kitten I should get. When I decided on one she rolled her eyes and huffed. Secondly, the day after adopting our kitten he became ill. I called repeatedly during their open business hours and was not able to reach anyone. Finally I took our kitten in because I was getting worried. The next day we were supposed to receive a call about how he was doing, when we still hadn't heard into the afternoon I called. I had to go through a whole automated system to even speak with someone. When I finally did, he was extremely rude and told me that "their phones ring off the hook and it's really annoying." Overall, their customer service is horrible. Im really disappointed! read more

I have been reporting the same neglected animals for a year and no one will so much as call me back. I began reporting after one of my neighbor's illegally kept goats died and continued to report about them not being fed, not having water even when temperatures reached into the high 90s and they continuously escape. The owner doesn't even answer his door when people bring the goats home. There was also a dog with a severe skin issue that would often be left to roam the neighborhood and again, the people who owned him wouldn't answer the door. The owner at some point broke the glass out of their French doors and just left it all over the deck where they fed the goats. A second goat died and still, no one would investigate. There is one goat left and I am sure he will meet the same fate as the first two. Shame on all the investigators at the Toledo are Humane Society. read more

They have pets listed on their website that are not available. Some show as being at the Human Society others show being at pet stores. We searched for a particular pet listed on their website to no avail. We inquired on this pet via email and phone, no response. The ordeal was discouraging and disheartening. To put pets in good homes Toledo Area Human Society needs to update their website and respond to inquiries. No more donations from me! read more

The staff at TAHS are amazing people. I called there to inquire about how to adopt a particular cat that happened to belong to my son. I spoke with a man named Dick who was very helpful and gave me the info on adoptions and I was satisfied. What totally blew me away was the fact that I got a call from this wonderful gentleman saying they not only taken the time and tracked the cat down but i could come get her right away. The tears of joy my son cried when he was reunited with his pet were priceless!! read more

Everyone at TAHS is so friendly, you can really tell that they all have a genuine love for animals. I have popped in there from time to time over the past couple of years to donate food and toys and I have recently decided to become a foster volunteer there. I am now the proud foster mom to a mama cat and her four adorable kittens. TAHS has provided me with all the items that I will need to take care of these little guys, and they are always there for me when I have any questions. What a great organization! read more
