Such a nice little place for wine tasting. They have several areas to sit. There's an outside, the main tasting area and if you're doing the premium tasting they have a back area with more comfortable seating. The service was great and the wines were delicious! I think what makes this place special is that there's a story behind each bottle of wine and unique label by an artist to go with the story. It was hard to choose between the wines we liked and the art on the bottles lol. But they did say you can have any art label put on the bottle you wanted, but to is the story wouldn't match. We recently visited this tasting room and came away with mixed feelings. The setting is definitely nice. The views are beautiful, and depending on where you're seated, you can either enjoy the harbor scenery or spend some time people-watching. The artwork on the wine labels is stunning and adds a unique touch to the experience. I also appreciated the stories behind the wine names, the focus on small-batch production, and especially the charity bottle program. It's clear that a lot of thought and passion go into the brand. As for the wines themselves, they just weren't a fit for my palate, particularly at the price point. I recognize that wine preferences are highly personal, and there were others around the tasting room who seemed to enjoy them much more than I did. We stopped by Absolution for a tasting later in the day. Unfortunately they don't do tastings in their last hour of business, but they still allowed us to buy a bottle to share amongst our group. Great location on the main street, and wonderful indoor and outdoor seating. They allowed us to have our dog in the outdoors seating - so much appreciated! And even though their outdoor seating is by the street, the weather was nice, and it was so relaxing to sit outside. Delicious wine. Really enjoyed their Grenache. April 13, 2025 - Morro Bay. Absolution Cellars was one of the wineries that was included in our "Wine for Wildlife Passport Tasting" fundraiser (April 12 & 13, 2025). We had been here before and enjoyed the location and the wines, so we were looking forward to visiting again. They specialize in limited-production, handcrafted, single-vineyard wines from select vineyards throughout the Central Coast. And of special note is the beautiful, amazing label artwork. Dirk is the winemaker and was our host. The Wildlife Passport allowed for a pour of 3 wines. We had an Albarino, Sangiovese Rose', and a Pinot Noir. We bought a bottle of the Pinot Noir to enjoy later, but all 3 wines were delicious. The tasting room has both inside and outside patio seating. We had our pup, Sophie, with us, so we sat outside, just steps from the bay. Very nice. Although we were there for a special event and did not have the regular tasting flights, I did see that there were two flights available offering 6 pours for $20 or $30 depending on the flight. read more

We really loved our stop here for a charity wine crawl we did in April. Their wines were very yummy and we loved the ambiance, art, decor, and location. The artwork on the labels is what originally caught my attention and had me bookmark Absolution. Finally made my way down to Morro Bay and got to check out this tasting room near the water. Of the wines I tasted in the Classic Flight, the Tempranillo, Zin and Great Odin's blend were my most preferred. The Grenache initially caught my attention, but the above 3 pulled rank in my opinion. Service was friendly and knowledgeable (I didn't catch his name), but he did say the Odin's blend was named after his dog. :-) I'd like to check the place out at least one more time to try their reserve list. read more

We are semi locals to Morro Bay and immediately added this boutique winery to our wine club member "collection"! Located right on the Embarcadero, it is the perfect spot to sit back and relax after a day of shopping or visiting the beach or to grab a glass before a late lunch. It is obvious that Dirk, the winemaker, puts his heart and soul into every bottle! Everyone at Absolution is extremely knowledgeable about the different varietals of wine. They are very friendly and will tell you where the grapes are grown locally in this region and might even share a little story or two about how the labels are chosen for each bottle. They are open 7 days a week! And they are open early on the weekends. So, day-drinkers, unite!! I hadn't been wine tasting since before the pandemic. I'm late to the game on being "normal" again, but they had outside seating that was inviting and generously spaced. My husband agreed that this was the place. At first, I wore my mask and took it off when the owner went inside. But, once she realized what I was doing, she offered to wear a mask so that I would be more comfortable. I was touched by how kind and thoughtful she was. After a bit, I did feel more comfortable and I thoroughly enjoyed my pours. The wines had lovely coloring. Some were crisp and light, while others were hearty and warm. I enjoyed each pour. The bottles all feature artwork by Aja Trier. The owner described how she and her winemaker husband go about picking out the artwork. It is obvious that they enjoy their work. The wines are small batch and flavorful. They are aged in neutral French Oak barrels. I found myself wanting more than one bottle and only regret not getting a second. If you visit Morro Bay, this is a nice stop. You can pick up souvenirs first and then sit and relax outside, or inside at their bar. The owners are enjoyable to visit with and the wines are legit. read more

I don't normally leave Yelp reviews, but if I could leave 0 stars, I would. Came here after a great sunset cruise. Walked in 15 minutes before closing and was denied a wine tasting; understandably, so ordered a glass of wine. Our first sommelier was great, even though she didn't go over the wines that we ordered. The "sommelier" that closed us out, felt like she was rushing us out, even after we bought a bottle after our glasses of wine. Like most wineries, I took the wine glass that I tasted in when we left. No where on their menus, signage, or as instructed by employees, did it specify that a charge would be incurred if a wine glass was taken, even though as we walked away the employee saw us and knew we had taken the glass. A $30+ unauthorized charged was placed on our card, which we became aware of the morning after. We called to inquire about the unauthorized charge, and were told that they had us on camera "stealing a glass" and that's why the unauthorized charge was added. Never have we ever been treated in such a manner, especially by a boutique winery. This is the only stain in our amazing Morro Bay weekend getaway. Will definitely not be returning here again. read more

My husband and I first visited absolution cellars 2 years ago and now come every time we are in morro bay. We quickly became wine club members too because the wine are delicious and unlike others we've tried. Dirk (the wine maker) has a true talent making wines. Most of the wines are single varietal although he does make a few blends. We believe he makes the best pinot noirs we've ever had and we are pinot lovers! You'll love the customer service! Whether you have Dirk or his beautiful life partner Tania serving you, you'll feel like you're one of their friends. They'll answer any questions you have if you want to learn more about their wines or wine making or They'll leave you alone and let you enjoy the beautiful bay view. They are dog friendly and children friendly too! They also do so many events throughout the year that are so much fun! This past Sunday was "Sunday with the winemaker". It was a fun day that started with a fun PowerPoint about a few of their wines while we sipped on the wines of course. We went next door to Daisey's for coffee and tea, then Cambria for a beautiful walk in Fiscalini Preserve, more wine tasting at Cutruzzola vineyard and then a delicious lunch and then back to absolution for more wine all for an unbelievable price! And if you're a wine club member you get a discount! Highly Highly recommend these events that Dirk will be doing! He gives you so much for what you pay! We also love the dinner pairings he does with the talented chef Ian of Somms kitchen in Paso Robles, wine club members get a discount for these events as well! Tastings at absolution are only $20 for 6 very generous pours and Dirk and Tania are known for adding a surprise 7th pour in when they have another bottle open! Don't overlook Absolution cellars the next time you are in Morro Bay. This is a small winemaker with several stellar wines to choose from. We really enjoyed the opportunity to drop in and taste wines on our schedule, but I'd recommend making a reservation if you are coming in on a busy weekend just to be sure they'll be ready for your arrival. Unlike some other wine shops, there is no fee to make a reservation here. I'm old enough to remember when tasting fees were a rarity. Even so, Absolution's current $20 fee seems to be below 'market rate' and well worth it. There wasn't a bad bottle in the bunch. read more
