First time visiting this Tom & Chee, but I've been to several locations of theirs and love their menu in general. This location is right next to the Newport Aquarium so it stays busy. We loved that they had pbskids on the television and cater to a kid friendly environment since so many little ones are around. I love the bacon, fig and goat cheese sandwich. I wanted it a tad hotter, but I didn't make any request since I wanted to get to our aquarium reservation on time. Kids' meals came with Mac and cheese, drink and a grilled cheese. My kids wanted more Mac and cheese so points for taste but they felt their servings weren't enough. Also had a side of their garlic tots and they were really crispy and the sauce was great. My kids loved them as well. They actually would have preferred to have their own sides of tots instead of sharing but they were an additional charge. read more

Wife and I made the 40 min drive to eat here again because their food is SO good! We went on Labor Day weekend and they literally had a line to the door which speaks for itself. Even as busy as they were, their service was top-notch.! The atmosphere is always chill and everybody's happy to be there. They had me the second I became aware of the grilled cheese donut. Finding out that a location no longer exists within the city limits of Cincinnati didn't deter us. We walked across the nearest bridge and over to the Levee. I may have accidentally attempted to open doors that were not meant to be open during my attempt to find this place but that's neither here nor there. There wasn't another human in sight when we first entered the establishment. I already knew what I wanted so I confidently walked up to the register. My line of vision immediately snapped to the mac & cheese on the menu above, noting the "award winning" comment. I slipped in an order of that just under the wire. We walked around to the back of the place as, by this time, other patrons followed our lead and entered. I was impressed they were able to find us but they kindly placed our order between us just as the anticipation was reaching its peak. So the donut appeared to be of the glazed variety and, unexpectedly, the outside of the sandwich was the inside (unglazed) portion of the donut. Upon reflection, this is probably for the "grilling" part of the sandwich. It was a very interesting combination. I wouldn't say that it reaches the realm of other, more notorious combos like white and rice, peanut butter and jelly, or ham and cheese. GF wasn't head over heels for it and didn't have more than a bite or two. I took one for the team and finished it. It was enjoyable. It was worth the calories. I don't feel compelled to eat it again. We each got a cup of soup and grilled cheese; I got the bacon/goat/fig and white chicken chili, and my partner got the west of Philly and creamy tomato soup. Came here on 4th of July since it was one of the few food restaurants still open around 7pm and it did not disappoint(: The service was good, mainly due to chef. The cashier who took our order wasn't particularly inviting but once our food was done, the chef personally took it to us, thanking us for coming and to enjoy which caught me by surprise. I appreciated him for being so friendly and walking our food to us(: My boyfriend and I ordered a grilled cheese donut and the bacon Mac grilled cheese which were both really tasty. The cheese in the donut was fairly mild which complimented the sweetness very nicely. The mac and cheese in the bacon Mac was seasoned very well, not overly cheesy and the bread had a great crunch, not very greasy either. Over the years when making the trek to from Louisville to Newport Kentucky usually with the kids to see the aquarium or on the way to visit Cincinnati we have stopped at this creative and cool establishment a few times. This is basically a massive grilled cheese establishment. With menu items focused around several grilled cheese type items. They get pretty creative. For instance every time I've visited I've gotten then donuts grilled cheese where they buns are donuts. Yeah...I know what your thinking. It's strange. But it is strangely delightful too. I compare it to going to the state fair and looking at the food and basically saying "YOLO" and trying a strange of exotic fried food. Overall very cool place. Definitely worth checking out. I'll have to make a return trip sooner than later. They actually added a Louisville location in my home city but I unfortunately did not make it there before they closed. We took our grandsons for lunch and were disappointed. The bread was stale and the cheese tasted like it was anything but real. The macaroni and cheese had an odd taste to it and neither child would finish their meal. The adult sandwiches had the same issues ( Westsider and West of Philly) but the latter was too runny for a sandwich and had very little meat. The westsider was the lowest ranked sandwich and the best was the bbq bacon. The mac n cheese was liked, the tomato soup wasn't. I had the crunchy garlic chicken and it was just ok, it was really saucy and there was only one chip on each half of the sandwich. I should've got a regular grilled cheese. Also, the desserts were disappointing. I had the bananas foster donut and a friend had the nutella one. The donuts were kind of burned on top and were hard to cut. It's been a little while since I've been here so it's time for another visit. Delicious soup and grilled cheese variations is what they do here and they do it as well as I could imagine it could be done. I tried out the Flying Pig which comes on hearty white bread. On that bread is smoked gouda, Applewood Smoked Bacon, oven roasted turkey, dill pickle, and taragon mustard. The meats are all fantastic and gouda is my one of my favourite cheeses. The mustard was tasty but I don't believe mustard belongs on a grilled cheese sandwich and it didn't really add anything to this one. I would leave it off the next time. The Grilled Cheese Donut is one of their signature sandwiches and I'm here to tell you that it should be its own food group. The combination of the mild cheddar and sweetness of the donut work together souch better than you might think it would. Try it for yourself.
