In 2021, We found Tom Curren companies originally on Yelp to have them redo our second level deck (no access to the yard) and replace 30+ year old pressure treated with Azek composite decking. The man who came to quote us (Keith D) was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was not an easy task given the lack of access from the outside to our deck. They did a great job! We had some issues with the manufacturer and TC was awesome at coordinating having the manufacturers rep come out to fix the issue. They didn't charge us our 2nd or final payment until the issue was totally resolved. The ONLY downside to this was the manufacturer/distributor RANDOMLY dropped off all the materials without us knowing and we were worried they weren't going to be secure. TC had someone come over right away to move the materials behind our gate. In 2022, TC offered some amazing off season specials which we decided to have them quote the repainting of about 1600sf of space. They repainted our main stairwell, baseboards, 3 bathrooms (& ceilings), stair risers, and spindles. They were great, efficient and communicative. I would use them again. read more

in 2012 we did a total bathroom makeover. We got a number of bids, and although they were the highest, we went with Tom Curren because we fell for his line of bulls-t. They told us it would take approx. 3 weeks but actually took 3 months. We are now redoing the shower for the second time due to leaks in the floor. He used wood for the seat in the shower which wicked up to the granite. The curb was also made of wood which also absorbed water and leaked down to our dining room. He is absolutely the worst contractor I have ever used. Medicine cabinets were installed too low and had to be reinstalled. Curb had to be reinstalled 3 times because it did not pitch toward the shower, Cabinet over toilet did not match the vanity and had to be replaced. Seat in corner of shower had to be replaced with one made of foam rather than wood. And now, we are ripping out the shower and replacing the floor and curb because it is leaking into our dining room. read more

Actual conversation between my mother and this company: Worker 1: "we will send someone out on Monday to look at your bulkhead." Worker 2 (on Monday): "hi yeah I'm calling to cancel my visit to your house." Mom: "ok are you going to reschedule?" Worker 2: "No, I'm canceling because your job is too small for the Tom Curren painting company." Then some third guy later called to ask how the paint job went. My mom explained that the job was done well and in a friendly manner...by someone from another firm. Unless your job is clearly big and important, steer clear of the Tom Curren company. AVOID and don't waste your time. I had them come out to give an estimate on an exterior paint job, to add to a handful we'd already received. They insist on having a face-to-face meeting to convey the estimate, so that they can do the whole song and dance to talk to you like a kindergartener about what they're going do do, and then proceeded to give us an estimate that was THREE TIMES our highest bid (which, if you've ever gotten an exterior pait job, you know isn't cheap). Turns out that the sales guy misunderstood something I said during the initial meeting about a bid we'd already received, and thought he was being smart by coming in just under that number-- but little did he realize, that number was for the ENTIRE house, not just our half of the condo. I wanted to laugh in his face. It made it clear that they weren't giving an estimate on work, but trying to estimate what we'd actually pay. Their estimate included painting a door, which was half windows---so HALF OF A DOOR, for $378. So ridiculous. Also, a lot of people you're paying for in this company- secretary, salesperson, etc. I'm very happy to be giving my money, instead, to another, more honest and hardworking company, and to the actual people doing all the hard work. read more

TL;DR: Complete disregard for any commitment to start work on time after signing the contract and locking our money. We patiently followed up each week to understand what the progress/ hold up was but got random excuses to just postpone the work. Very unprofessional with no value for customer's time and money. Finally, after locking down $2000 for more than 2 months, no date for when the work would start, and doubting the company's creditability, we got out of the ordeal by asking for a refund.   Our experience working with Tom Curren companies has been disappointing, to put it nicely. We believe in giving credit where credit is due and were pleased with the design services we received before signing the contract and making a payment. However, this was where the good experience ended. For the next 10 weeks, it was a game of cat and mouse, we following up every week to understand the status, and the representative avoiding us or coming up with random excuses as to why the work cannot be started especially when in the contract it was mentioned it should start in 1 week after signing the contract. Finally, after 10 weeks of no action, we wrote an email giving them a 7-day ultimatum to commit to a date in writing and if they failed, then we would stop pursuing such a useless endeavor and get a refund. Of course, they did not reply in 7 days... by then we had lost all faith in them as a company. After calling them up, they responded as if this was just a misunderstanding. While on the call the representative sent us an email pretending that she was forwarding one she had already sent and it was stuck in the outbox. This was utterly ridiculous since the forwarded email stamp was completely made up (obvious after comparing with an actual forwarded email). The lengths these folks can go to cover their unprofessionalism is unbelievable. If they had put as much effort into getting the actual work started, this review would have been different. This has been a total waste of our time/money and a complete lack of professionalism from Tom Curren companies. Looking back, we should have gotten out of it sooner. Stay away! read more

So much false communication. Gave so much lip service about how they would set it up within 2 weeks and how different they are from other contractors. . I gave them a deposit of several thousand dollars and they said they would start our remodel in 2 weeks. Its been 6 weeks and they haven't returned our calls or set up any appointments. Every time I hear from them I have had to harass them. They have told me they will start the following week then don't follow up and nothing happens. read more

I made the mistake of requesting information on Angie's List to receive an online quote. Tom Curren Company somehow managed to get my home address and just showed up here unannounced. I never had any contact from them whatsoever. The salesman walks around my house like he's staking the place out, scared me to death, especially now since there have been shootings and riots all across the country. I almost called the police. It was rude, disrespectful, and totally inappropriate to just show up and invade my privacy and scare me like that. I will never ever do business with this disgusting company. read more

I just started getting estimates to have my bathrooms and maybe my kitchen remodeled. A rep from Tom Curren came out last week and talked to me about what I wanted, measured all the spaces, talked to me at length about my budget (and I was EXTREMELY clear about my upper limit). She seemed very positive about the possibilities and went off to generate an estimate. Today she returned with the Vice President of the company in tow- something I was absolutely not expecting. She spent at least a half an hour basically lecturing me about the five Ps of hiring a contractor and then finally presented me with a lovely folder with lots of nice pictures and an estimate that is more than DOUBLE the upper limit of my budget. I am dumbfounded really. Why would she waste her time and mine. $21,000 to do my TINY bathroom (5' x 7'). Two years ago I got an estimate for the same bathroom of $6,500. Unless Curren was planning to give me a golden toilet I can't imagine where this big discrepancy comes from. Sharks. So discouraging. read more

I was very very very very disappointed and angry with the work I got from Tom Curren painting. They painted my house several years ago and I am still angry about the way I was lied to and the mediocre work I received. They claimed to be expert carpenters but the shingling work that they did prior to painting was very sloppy. They didn't re-shingle the area that needed it but did other areas that were ok. When I tried to talk to the guy doing it he got very confrontational. The painting crew wouldn't use drop cloths. They got old paint chips all over the yard. They got new paint on my fence, back deck, window sashes, all of which have a clear stain finish. They wouldn't sand and perp the way they said they would. They removed old storm windows and just threw the old screws in the drive way and planters. Do not use this company. read more

We contacted Tom Curren in November 2014 to replace rotting clapboards and trim boards, to address pealing paint in a bathroom and electrical work. The recommended electrician came, completed the work and was great. The clapboards and trim boards were replaced with the carpenter noticing other rot as well and those boards were replaced. There was one piece of trim however not noticed, adjoining the other boards which was spongy to the touch. They eventually replaced that as well when we pointed it out. The painter came, scrapped, put compound on the walls, painted and left. The wall peeled again. They returned to paint on a day where the temperature as right near 45, but not higher with chance of rain and we told them not paint the outside saying the paint would not adhere. They were annoyed and refused to do the inside painting of the shower because they had 2 people on site and said it was not worth to have one person idle. I mentioned this to the operations manager who made no apologies had for most of the project had no idea what her workers had done and not had done. I had to tell her what work had been completed and what was still outstanding. it is now June 2015 and I had to contact them again to come and finish the job. We will see how long it takes, but I do not have high hopes. read more

Fortunately, I found out about this company before I had written a check and it was too late. It was a classic bait-and-switch. The estimator came out to view my condo. At first, I was impressed that she took a lot of time to take notes, go through the unit, and offer recommendations, but I was suspicious that she kept trying to steer me toward doing more work with her company than I was prepared to. She represented the company as primarily a contractor but also tried to discourage me from buying my own kitchen cabinetry as a way to sell me the materials and pocket the profit. However, when I made it clear that I was purchasing my own materials and asked if they were interested in acting as the contractor for the other projects beside the kitchen, she said that she was and engaged me in a two-week email correspondence supposedly leading to an estimate. She even had me email an estimate from a competitor, supposedly so that she could provide a competitive bid. But the day before she was scheduled to visit, I received an email to cancel the visit, explaining that they were a "soup to nuts" business. That would have been fine if she had represented the business that way from the beginning. Instead, she inexplicably strung me along, possibly to extract information from competitors or try and pressure me into buying materials from their company. I emailed her to ask why she agreed to make a bid on the contract work only if they only work with customers who buy their materials. No reply. I called the managing director of the company to relay the interaction. She sounded interested and assured me that she would call me back the next day after investigating. After leaving a half-dozen messages to try and follow up and receiving no reply, I finally gave up. When any business refuses to even respond to a customer inquiry, that speaks volumes. In retrospect, I am relieved that I found out how this company really conducts itself before investing a large sum in a significant project. I hope readers will benefit from my experience. read more

I just used Tom Curren for the first time to do some odds and ends around the house. It was a wash list of jobs with many different types of work on it. Joe C was great. He came on time, worked hard, kept the mess to a minimum and cleaned everything up when he was finished. The work was neat and professional and he worked diligently. He come to view the work done, agreed that the results were unsatisfactory, and brought in a different carpenter. This carpenter corrected the defects, so that now none are apparent. read more

Sent out a snake oil salesman to sub contract out sub par workers and failed to finish job for three times the going price. Never even met Tom Curren, but whoever he sends out to do carpentry work are the most clueless individuals of all time. The railing on my back deck is uneven with pressure treated wood, which is supposed to be used mainly for structural construction. Now it is all ready splitting and looks terrible. Asked for a check while they left a mess below the work place. Advice: RUN. read more

We recently purchased our home, and needed to have our foyer and 2 bedrooms painted. Both my husband and I work full time and have young children, so it was a difficult project for us to tackle. We wanted to hire a company we could trust and more importantly work in our home while we weren't there all day. We decided to hire Tom Curren after meeting with the professional estimator. The interior painting crew arrived to our home on time, everyday, kept our home impeccably clean, and did a fabulous job! The end result was just amazing!! I called for an estimate on gutter cleaning. They gave me a quote over the phone after a few questions, and stuck to it upon completion of the job. I was told I'd get a call on a Monday to schedule the gutter cleaning, but, instead, the cleaner showed up at my door! He worked quickly and efficiently, was polite and careful. I needed a few things done around my house and wasn't really sure how to go about doing them myself. Joe from the handyman services at Tom curren companies came out, took a look at the two projects and knew exactly what to do. He was ready to work immediately....didn't have to come back another day. He worked efficiently, neatly, and carefully. When he went to Home Depot to buy the materials he said, "I'll be back as fast as I can." AND HE WAS!! While he was here, he noticed something I hadn't asked for and took care of it. No extra charge since it only took a couple of minutes, but who does that any more? I was so impressed with his work that I had him come back to fix a damaged wall in the garage that had been removed by the previous owner and had never been repaired properly. Again, not only did he do a wonderful job on the repair I asked for, but he noticed another hole while he was up on the ladder and fixed it with materials he already had. No extra charge except for the time. It's so nice to finally have someone responsible and competent ( and pleasant!!) to call for small jobs. The pricing is very fair and reasonable. My experience with Tom Curren Companies was awful. Enticed by their flyers that I have been receiving for years, I called them for a quote. I waited over a month to get an appointment with the scheduler who was very difficult to schedule with. I felt like I was accommodating his schedule rather than the other way around. After our initial meeting, he would not email or send the quote but insisted on meeting again in person, company policy. Again, it was extremely difficult to schedule and when I had to cancel our 7am meeting (the only time he had available for weeks) because of a family emergency, he refused to reschedule. The arrogance and inflexibility of these people is unbelievable. Furthermore, the estimators verbal quote was twice two other quotes we received. They must pass all of their advertising costs onto their customers. Total aggravation and a waste of time. Skip this company! read more
