My condo association needed to make some long overdue replacements of the stairwell windows and frames in our four story building. The frames dated back to the 1910s and needed to go. Bruin came recommended highly to me by a friend of mine. We received multiple quotes for the job and Bruin's was by far the best for a set of new double hung Harvey windows. Bill was great in coming out for the measurements and getting us the quote. It was simple to secure the job as we could make the deposit by credit card. Bruin's office stayed in touch to let us know of the timeframe for the job. Their crew showed up on time on the scheduled day and finished even faster than we assumed. They also cleaned up nicely. When I called to ask why no one arrived, the response I received was dismissive, as if my call were an inconvenience rather than a legitimate question. I'm actually glad they never showed. If a company can't manage a simple appointment, how could they possibly handle a major project worth tens of thousands of dollars, on schedule and with professionalism? I had approximately $15k of windows and doors installed. Front door was hung and not plumb. Doesn't sit flush with frame. Had someone out (second complaint in work done) who said door looked great, and walls where installed are never straight. Really? $3,500 bucks and you blame the structure for a poorly hung door. Had a large gap over a sliding door they installed. Guy comes out and says if water goes in it will go up. Really? Do I need black mold in my house? Cannot get an itemized bill out of this company, and they are trying to blow off complaints. It's time to call every news station for a review of their shoddy work. We engaged Bruin for siding replacement for our house back in 2020. I've been ruminating a bit about the experience since then, but ultimately, I learned a lesson, which is that working with smaller contractors that are more focused on quality vs. sales/marketing is the way to go. My wife and I were happy to have our siding replaced, but here is the list of issues we've had since working with Bruin. Also, we chose to install an Everlast siding material, due to it's appearance and low maintenance needs. During the job - As a qualifier we communicated clearly to Bruin that we wanted to address any issues identified during siding removal as the house was built in the 70's and there were some questionable build details. The only issue that they addressed was some major rot and damage to studs along a garage wall. We paid a premium to have this fixed which was off putting considering that the fix should have been completed in a day. Furthermore no efforts were made to jack or level the joists. - The siders put house wrap right over a carpenter ant satellite nest that was uncovered on a corner of the house even after I asked that Bruin fix the compromised area. End result was late that summer, the wet wood dried up and we had a massive ant exodus in our basement. - I pleaded to Bruin to be honest about our Deck and if any work was needed to prevent rain damage beyond the new siding and flashing since the deck and 3 season were not built well. This was not listened to, and we've since been dealing with water issues due to bad flashing detailing on our deck. - I needed to re-review the contract during install since Bruin was starting to put aluminum flashing fascias around our existing gables vs. the PVC board we had in our quote/contract. - The siding on the back of our house is terribly misaligned. The installers were using a 6 foot level to try to level the boards vs. measuring the house and using chalk strikes to ensure level boards. They installed two doors for us as part of the job. They are not plumb or were installed correctly. Items noticed since the job - The siding install was not done well or correctly. Everlast siding needs to float to deal with thermal expansion. The siding has oblong fastener holes so that the siding can shit with temperature changes which the screws should be centered in. Furthermore, but joints need to be fastened with metal hardware to no pull apart. Bruin did not float the siding and either incorrectly or didn't install hardware at some butt joint resulting in large gaps that open and close due to the weather. - Another annoying detail is that we had new windows with new trim installed prior to the work. The new trim required that the siding butt against it instead of having a J channel. A savvy installer would have known to drill a hole and fasten the siding closely to the window trim to deal with thermal expansion. They didn't do this. - They manufactured blocks for light fixtures and electrical box out of PVC and did not flash them correctly. - Now I'm currently having some carpenter ant issues in our house. I'm quite confident that we're going to find that this is also due to lack of attention to detail from Bruin. So in summary we probably spent $50k+ on our job. The work was outsourced to low cost slash and dash subcontractors. From now on, I either do it myself or work with specialists. read more

I have never had such a bad experience with a company working on any of my properties. The manager at the office was extremely rude and unprofessional when I sent photos of how poorly the workers treated my property. Nails left everywhere, items scattered around my backyard and excessive debris. They also left the doors to my place unlocked and used the bathroom(which is fine) but tracked in debris and mud and dirt and left hand towels on the ground. I spent about half hour everyday during the week they worked on my house cleaning up after them. I sent photos, but the managing office did not believe me even though I had photo proof. I am urging Mass Save to remove them from a contractor for insulation work. Would not recommend. read more

After getting a MassSave energy audit for insulation and taking the company they picked, we had an awful experience where they cancelled the day of installation with no reason and were scrambling at the last minute (Christmas Eve) to find another company that would be able to fit us in before winter was over. A friend recommended Bruin based on her fantastic experience and she was 100% correct about their service. I was on the phone with someone helpful immediately who could fit us in within the next week and then had no problem with the three additional calls I made that afternoon to confirm our paperwork had gone through with MassSave. When the insulation crew came, they patiently explained what the issue with our particular siding and exterior installation would be and assured me that going from inside the house would be the right choice. They were very kind in helping me understand the process and we found another day in the next week for them to come back. They left the house very clean and did the initial patch up job - about 100 holes inside the first floor :0! We are so happy with the work they did and will definitely recommend them to anyone! read more

Two years ago I replaced all of the windows in my condo unit and a sliding glass door. I was very impressed by their workmanship and cleanliness when all was done. The quality of the windows and doors are top notch. Just this week I mistakenly did not lift my window up enough to clean it so the window safety locked in place and wouldn't move up or down. I couldn't remember how to fix the problem. I called Bruin and within 24 hours they came and fixed the issue with no questions asked. They also showed me how to fix it the next time it happens. I promise you, however, that I've learned my lesson and will lift the window higher next time I need to tilt it open to clean. I am thoroughly content with Bruin's work and like the fact that it's a local and family owned business. I will return to them again and again. read more

When I made the decision to replace additional windows, have insulation blown in and install siding Bruin was again the choice and was able to provide all of these services. I was pleased with all aspects of the project. The final work has improved the look of the house especially the windows and the siding. The workers were professional and answered all of our questions and were responsive to any issues that arose. I've had an extremely poor experience with Bruin Corp of Framingham when they worked through Mass Save to install blown-in cellulose insulation to my attic. Mass Save recommended that the old fiberglass insulation should be removed and replaced with cellulose. They also recommended air sealing which is necessary to reduce air flow and the replacing of weatherstripping for one exterior door. Bruin Corp charged for services that they did not complete. They charged for weatherstripping on three exterior doors, however they did not work on any of them. They did not remove the old insulation as instructed by Mass Save, and simply installed new insulation over the old to save time and effort. Since they did not remove the old insulation, they did not air seal any of the flooring as was necessary. They decided to change the work that was to be completed (or not completed in this case) without consulting me at all beforehand. They did air seal a completely unnecessary section of wood that was highly visible so that they could charge for the service. They did complete duct sealing work, however they took three hour long breaks during the day so that they could charge for the full 8 hours of work. They refused to give me a receipt of the work that was claimed to be completed upon request and I was forced to schedule an inspection of the work through Mass Save who confirmed that the work was not completed. I don't think I want them to come back into my house, but it is within my right to have them correct this poorly done job. I'm now forced to spend more time and money myself to correct their mistakes. read more

i had a phenomenal experience with bruin corporation, and our salesman, mike. my fiance and i are first time homeowners and purchased our home in april with the knowledge that we needed to replace the roof before winter. i interviewed several different businesses and got a bunch of estimates. we ultimately chose bruin, and could not be happier. the first thing that impressed me was mike. he treated me with respect, was very professional, and was thorough in his explanations. i was completely clueless, and he answered every question i had, and never made me feel stupid or silly for asking. i was a consumer that he very easily could have taken advantage of, and he did not. he operated with great integrity which, truthfully, is why i ultimately chose bruin. price-wise, they were on the upper end of the estimates we received (though not the most expensive), but his reliability, and the longevity of the business gave me the confidence that the cost was worth it. speaking of cost, we were able to finance a loan through their third party (GreenSky) which offered us 0% interest for a full year. that was awesome and a great relief to us as we knew the work really needed to be done; it wasn't optional. i was also impressed with the granular level at which the roofing replacement was explained. i was informed (literally) how many nails would be used per shingle, and other details that i might not have needed to know. i appreciate how thorough mike was, especially in trying to explain why other business' may be less expensive, but would not have provided the same results. once we had booked the job, communication with the business was professional and courteous. we had anticipated the work being done in september, and were moved up to july when they had a cancellation/postponement. so our start date was a bit unexpected, but i appreciated being moved up on the schedule. our roof was completed in one day (we have a small, single level bungalow), with a few hours of follow up another day because they were short on roof caps. the business took great care to clean up after itself. we have dogs, and there were no issues with leftover nails in the yard, etc. the business also took great care to follow up with me to ensure i was happy with the job, and was flexible in terms of getting paperwork back to them. we are halfway through winter and there has not been a single leak or issue with our roof, which is always a concern when you are replacing. however, had an issue arisen, i am confident that bruin would have addressed it promptly and appropriately, as they did everything else in our relationship thus far. all in all, i cannot say enough good things about our experience. we eventually need to replace 8 windows on our front porch and, when we can afford it, we will be using bruin. i highly recommend them. read more

They are okay. I used the MassSave program to get my house insulated. While they did get the job done, there were a few things they could have done better. The job took several days -- and they didn't clean up at the end of day very well. The guys also smoked cigarettes on the job, even though it was outside, the windows were open and I could smell them all day. The work they did was fine tho. read more

They installed new windows in our ashland home approximately six years ago. 1- They use copious amounts of caulking that dis colors and cannot be cleaned. 2- they do not support their product after installation. Window broke. Ok, called for service And no return call. So, went down there and spoke to them. They to call me. Still waiting From over a month ago. Lol. Federal glass fixes them same week . Lol. They replaced two doors for me: main front door to the house and storm door on my portico. First, I love the product (Provia). It is beautiful, and I've had people say it "fits" the house and just looks like it belongs. From sales consult to installation these guys were great. They took the time needed to ensure a quality job and the doors show it: they fit and move beautifully. Especially impressive since my house is old and the portico is a little off-kilter. I need to start this review with the statement that it is very, very difficult to make my wife happy with any service or product. Her standards are far beyond those of mere mortal men. When we decided we needed windows, I did a lot of research on the companies used in the condo complex in which we live. We got excellent feedback on Bruin, good feedback on an independent contractor, and no so great feedback on a relatively new company. I spoke to a few people who used Bruin and went to look at the windows and doors. I also looked at the windows and doors of the other companies. While they all pretty much looked the same at first, upon closer examination I could tell Bruin's windows were better constructed. Although I never heard of the windows they installed (National Vinyl Products) I did some research on that company and found that they were in business for many years. The Bruin sales person was candid and forthright and said the National Vinyl windows were great but the doors were good for a certain price point; Harvey doors were more durable and better constructed. We went with the Harvey doors since we use our sliders a lot. It took 6-10 weeks for the windows and doors to come in but the timing was perfect! It was October when they came to install them and it was neither too hot nor too cold. My wife works at home and watched them install the windows and doors. She said they worked like a well-oiled machine and had obviously worked together a long time, which they had. They were efficient and the work was FLAWLESS, they left our home without leaving a scrap behind. My wife's expectations, which are always unreasonable, were EXCEEDED! I don't think hell froze over because of this, but I am not sure. I came home the first night and it was as if we lived in a different home. The windows were amazing and the molding was perfect! After they left, my Virgo wife inspected every window with an electron microscope and found the smallest crack in one of the windows. I called Bruin to let them know and 2 weeks later they stopped by and replaced the broken sash. I am not sure how much better the service and installation could have been, but we are thrilled! The real test will be how the windows and doors perform over the winter. I will update my review in the spring with this information. Bruin is windows and doors. I needed a contractor to install my attic insulation through the Mass Save program and saw Bruin doing insulation down the road from me. I checked their online ratings and BBB rating (A+) and figured I would request these guys instead of just getting the next available installer. I am glad I did. They were quick to call back and schedule the work. They came at the time they said they would. Both workers were friendly and respectful. The job went quickly and they did all the items on the list with no surprise ad ons. They took the time to explain what they were doing/did. When they left everything was cleaned up and my attic was actually cleaner after they left than before they came. I highly recommend you choose Bruin if you are going through the mass save program. I am sure their other work is probably good also, but I only have experience with this insulation installation. read more

Sales guy, I think it was Brad, came out and told me I had mold in my attic and I needed a $20,000 roof, to which i just bought the house a month prior and had a mold test completed specifically in the attic and came back with no issues. The sales tatics here seem to be to threaten the health of your loved ones to get you to buy from them. Meanwhile, a simple $5 rubber roof pipe cap solved issues with my leaking roof. We had these guys come in 2007 to install a window at our condo we were selling. We just had them back to install three windows at our new place. Both times the guys doing the work were super nice, professional and did a great job. Had it not been for the fact that we went from double hung to casement windows, I would not have known they had been in either of the rooms. They swept and cleaned up, left the place looking nice. Totally satisfied with my new Bruin replacement windows. Miles arrived on time and went right to work. The area was well prepped with padding and the like. He worked diligently for several hours and the job was done before I had to go to work. As for the windows, they are tight. The ones they replaced were leaky. The new ones knock the noise down quite good as well. I live near a major thoroughfare and pretty close to the commuter rail as well. I called here to get a estimate I asked if they service Worcester they stated yes. I set up a appointment for a window and roof estimate. they were on time for the estimate. the measurements were taken I set up a appointment about a week later at their office. they went thru everything about window and the roof gave me my quote. I liked what they had to say and the price. I called back numerous times to see what I had to do to lock in price I was told I had 30 days to lock in. like I said I called numerous times to see when 30 days was up I got no response. I called the Friday before Christmas and was told they will get the salesman to contact me. this never happened. I called again on January 3 and was told the same thing. I explained to the gentleman that answered the phone I do not call the a good way to start if you are not interested in doing job in Worcester just say so I would understand. as of today January 7 I have heard nothing from them. time to move on I guess they do not want the job. read more
