I contacted the dealership with interest in a used Subaru Outback. After speaking to representative, I received a call from the owner, Tom, shortly after. The discussion was friendly and honest. Tom was genuinely interested in making sure I was satisfied with the vehicle. I arranged a meeting the next day to come take a look at the car. Long story short, I ended up purchasing the vehicle with what was easily the best car buying experience I have ever had. Typically, negotiating the price of the car is a strenuous and unenjoyable experience. Working with Becca, Jeremiah, and Tom, we were able to come to a very fair price without the unnecessary back and forth. Not often do you feel that a car dealership is being fair in their pricing, but they were at Tom Hodges. Bought what appears to be an amazing bought a car site, unseen, and the minute it was delivered to me the entire cabin smelled like exhaust. Unfortunately, it took a couple months for a proper diagnosis. The smell continued to get worse and worse, and made the vehicle unsafe and on a drivable for my four children and my wife, I reached out to the owner asking if he would cover the expenses because if I would have test driven that car in person I would've never purchased a car. There was always an excuse. I guess a lesson learned. Even a small town dealership that's been established for a long time. Doesn't have much empathy for an out-of-state purchaser. So I waited a month to post this since that's how long it took to fix everything that should have been fixed prior to the car being sold. I will start off saying the sales team and manager were amazing and I had no issues with them. All my problems came from the service department who have horrible customer service skills. I bought a car on a Saturday and by Monday I had a list of 7 things that were obviously wrong with the car and needed to be fix most of them were small things but 2 were major like the keyfab not working and the passenger airbag not working. They fixed everything but the airbag quickly but some of the small problems have resurfaced resurfaced already and when I said something to the service center they didn't care. The airbag problem had to go to Chevy to be fixed and took a month to get in. I don't know who does the inspections at Tom Hodges but they need to be retrained. Again the salesman Olvan and managers Bob and Rob were amazing.but the headache with the service center brought my review score way down. read more

Carwash is consistent and the vacuums work well, but that's the only reason they are getting two stars from me. Stopped by for a quick oil change and was absolutely disgusted by the attitude of a man named John behind the counter. A parts supplier rep walked in and he treated him like complete trash. After ignoring him and making rude comments the parts guy left.. and I walked out right behind him. This is just another bully in the automotive industry and exactly why I'm cautious of who I let handle my vehicles. Not long after my mother insisted I take her there for maintenance on her car. Quick oil change and tire rotation went fairly well. We made it just down the street until we had to pull over in front of a local trans shop due to shaking and a horrendous noise. He came out and looked.. all four wheels were loose. They didn't tighten the lugs after rotating the wheels. At this point I'm livid, and somebody should be held accountable for their actions before someone gets seriously injured or worse. Proceed with caution here.. read more

Heard good reviews and decided to bring my vehicle in for an oil rotation and tire balance. Dropped it off 8am on Friday, said I needed it the same day. Got a call around 4pm and was told the oil change would be done in 30min and then all the stuff that needed to be done on the multi point inspection they couldn't do until Monday. I told them I just wanted to cabin filter replaced but I would need it first thing Monday morning. He said that was fine, it would be ready by 10. I showed up at 9:30 and my car was just sitting in the same parking space it was the whole weekend. When I told them I'd just pick it up now, he wanted to argue with me about it now being ready. First he said, even though they open at 8, they don't start working on cars until later. When I mentioned that there are other cars in the garage being worked on now, he had nothing to say. They had it all day Friday, all day Saturday and they couldn't even get it in first thing Monday. Stay far far away from this place. Maybe they're better with people who wait for their vehicles. I'm pretty sure I just kept getting pushed further and further down the line because of people who were waiting. read more

Car wash normally has a 20+ minute wait. I've lost two windshield wipers here despite the little plastic wraps they provide for you. Nobody else in town requires these, not sure what the deal is here. I recommend you go touch free unless you want your vehicle damaged. I drive a lifted truck and don't carry a stepladder with me, needless to say I don't use the car wash anymore. The vacuums work well, but you will most assuredly lose one or more quarters to the vacuum coin box, happens every time. read more

Bottom Line: Trade-in appraisal was $500 less than the lowest Kelly Blue Book (KBB) trade-in value. Jeremiah, the Sales Manager, was a straight shooter. He shared great insight into the Appraisal process and was easy to deal with. I appreciated his honesty and felt that I could trust his judgement. Ultimately, I took his advice to attempt to sell my car on my own time. EXPERIENCE: Tom Hodges sales facility is pristinely clean with a well-mannered staff. I was greeted within seconds of entering the building and was paired up with Jeremiah. Jeremiah wasn't pushy, he carried himself well with an apathetic mindset. He was candid and upfront about everything. Only took him 5 mins tops to appraise my car. Told me the cars in excellent shape, and that no other dealership would beat his offer. Although I'm disappointed with his offer, he was correct. Both CarMax and the Used Car Factory offered me $500 less than Tom Hodges ($10,000 vs $10,500 for a car that's worth $13,500 in trade-in according to KBB). WHY 3-STARS? The only reason I didn't give Tom Hodges a higher rating is because I'm of the opinion there appraisal amount was insulting low for a car as well maintained as mine (and low mileage). Will not ever return to trade in a vehicle here or any other dealership for that matter. Offer was $500 lower than KBB. OVERALL: Best offer on my used vehicle between CarMax & Used Car Factory. Still disappointed that it was $500 lower than Kelly Blue Book trade-in. read more

It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this review. When the service department first opened it was great! Reasonable prices, good turnover time, and excellent customer service! Recently we have not had good experiences there and it has left a very sour taste in my mouth. Recently I had a newish car with 50k miles on it in for an oil change and tire rotation. I also asked for a few other things to be looked at. I was later told that my transmission needed servicing, brakes needed to be changed, the rotors needed to be re machined, and the tires replaced! On a Toyota with 50K this was a shock! I only had them do the transmission, and determined we would do the brakes ourselves. The tires were not immediate. When I got the transmission fluid sample from them, it was still clear, no tints of orange to it, signifying dirty transmission fluid. When we changed the brake pads, we discovered there was another 10,000 miles left on them, and the rotors were fine! I feel like someone was out for a boat payment when they put our car on the lift! I will be going back to Bayside Toyota for my work from now on, and I would recommend extreme caution with Hodges. Make them show you the evidence, and don't take their word for "discovered" maintenance concerns! read more

I took my 2009 Toyota Highlander in to have the tires balanced and rotated (free service since I bought the tires there) and during that service I asked the service department to check all the fluids (brake, cooling, power steering, transmission, and transaxle) assuming that since it had been more than 75,000 miles since they were replaced it was probably time for them to be replaced again. To my surprise and great appreciation, they told me that the fluids all looked good and it was not necessary to change any of them. WOW! How many service departments do you think would do that? I've made the decision that driving to the dealership to handle routine maintenance is often times not worth the hassle. I decided to find a local outfit to service our family's vehicles. I usually do the simple things like oil changes, etc. but, I've found that I only save a few dollars. I don't have a lift and I'm getting too old to crawl under cars. Tom Hodges has been around forever so I figured someone with roots in the county would make sure that they provide excellent service. I took my recently purchased Harley Davidson to have it inspected. Only took about 45 mins and passed. First test passed. It's a good sign when outfits don't push "recommended" repairs during an inspection (unless obviously needed). I took my wife's Acura to have the oil changed and tires rotated. I waited while the work was performed. I was in and out in under an hour. Passed the time reading magazines in the well kept waiting room. I was able to use an internet special coupon and saved a few bucks more. I think I found a winner! read more

Communication was excellent car was done when promised and price for repair was as quoted (rear brakes). Car was brought in for a check engine light. Our car needed a good amount of work our service adviser Sergio did his homework and pulled a Honda service bulletin and suggested we take the car to Honda. In February, after a snow storm, I went to Tom Hodges carwash, waited for over an hour in line, for the carwash to break while I was mid-cycle. I made contact with employees, who were nice. They wouldn't give me my money back but gave me two coupons for a free carwash. Today, when I tried to use them, both codes were invalid. Since there were a line of cars behind me, I went ahead and purchased another $15 carwash. After paying for the carwash, the automated voice said proceed into the carwash, and it never activated. Another previous time, the dryer was not working. Save yourself the time and aggravation and go find another carwash, since the employees can't give you a valid code, or refund your money. read more

I got in contact with these people on Saturday and I gave them my number and name so I could keep a close tab on a vehicle. I was very interested in a vehicle but allegedly they had just got that vehicle that day so it had to go threw inspection and what ever else they had to do to sell it so I stayed in contact with them every day this week speaking with 3 different people talking about how I want to get this vehicle and I was told yesterday that we can do a credit app and go threw with getting the vehicle and I can come get it today so I do the credit app and I was going to go in after work today to look at the vehicle that I kept a tab on everyday whether they called me or I called them and I received no phone call today so I call up there and they tell me they are selling the vehicle I'm just displeased with the service and the fact they ran my credit and just sold the vehicle to the first person they could as soon as it was inspected would not recommend read more

My wife was in the market for a new car. We have been looking since November at different models from the Kia Sorento, Hyundai, Toyota and Honda SUVs. We started with CarMax and found that buying there was more Hassel then it was worth. Cannot express how frustrated I am with this place. Will definitely never purchase another vehicle in my life from here and have stressed the same to friends and family. We have gone in circles for the entire year we have owned my wife's car. It has been in the shop at least 5 times a reoccurring issue as well as so many others. Paid extra money for the "bumper to bumper" that's a joke. Picked the car back up today needs were not fulfilled as they said they would be on a phone call now it requires another visit. The biggest issue I had with the most recent issue is blatant lack of care for what was asked as well as the loaner was given with 1/2 of tank so obviously returned with the same but I cannot say the same for my wife's car that was given to them with 1/2 of a tank but received today we 10 miles to empty with the fuel light on. I have never been a fan of dealers for routine maintenance since I have always found more consistent customer service at local shops - this place fits my needs very well. I had used Hewitt's for a few years and liked them until their lead mechanic blew me off after I complained about squeaking brakes after a pad replacement (yeah, I know - they will squeak as they break in). After getting nowhere on my 3rd return trip to Hewitt's, I went to Hodges. They actually put my truck on the lift and removed the tires to look at the brakes where they found that a spring had been installed incorrectly which was causing a pad to drag as I released the brake pedal causing the squeak. I have stayed with Hodges since then with no regrets. I bring three cars there for routine work and have great confidence in them. (I'm from Jersey - I don't trust anyone completely . . .). My work has been mostly routine stuff - oil changes, brakes, tire rotations, plugs. But they did replace the drive belt and water pump on my truck. It came to me on-time and gets slightly better gas mileage than when I brought it in (21 now - was 18-19 before). A long time ago, I used to do all the routine work myself. But with the age of computerized cars and wickedly tight spaces in engines, I'm glad that I can rely on Hodges to do the knuckle-busting work for me without paying a fortune or getting fleeced with mystery ailments. I have one minor caution about them. In an age of lawsuits, I find that they recommend new tires before the end of the useful treadlife (I still use the 2/32" Lincoln penny trick to check for treadlife). If you can manage to get through that, they are a great place to go for car repairs. read more

I have made numerous visits to Tom's Hodges business since I moved to St. Mary's in 1986. I have test driven many used and now new vehicles over the years. I always found his sales persons and staff to be highly knowledgeable, super friendly, and totally professional and ethical. Recently I tested the most technically advanced and pleasantly comfortable SUV I've ever seen anywhere. You have probably heard that you really don't get to know someone or learn about their true character until you do business with them. I have seen Tom in action and I'm totally impressed with his leadership. That includes how he lets his staff do their jobs while instilling a successful atmosphere. Additionally, he is actively involved with State government on related issues and networks effectively with other Mitsubishi dealers and company entities for his customers' benefit. Tom and his Team made me a terrific win-win deal, and I took it. I most highly recommend that when you are in the market for a vehicle, do not hesitate to visit Tom Hodges.
