Within weeks of purchasing my 65 Mustang GT my nephew talked me into entering my car in the prestigious New Hope car show. I really thought I'd be wasting my time. I just purchased her, I've done nothing to her, this would be the very first car show for me. Well I went anyway. Upon our arrival I noticed all the Mustangs, no way could I compete. When the judges came to my car they looked at everything, down on one knee starring, looking, and examining. Boy was that stressful, they were expressionless. As I sat under the tree talking with others, I heard someone behind me call my name, I stood up, turned around only to see the group of judges who ad examined my car. The next words I heard was, " Your car is amazing, and it took First place" You'll be in the parade of champions and recieve your award. Unbelievable. I was speechless and had tears in my eyes. Only if my Dad and brother were still here to share this with me. Since then the car won two more shows and have spoken with the first owners of my car. They too, shared my happiness. I originally wasn't going to write a review, but thought this might be helpful to anyone who is looking to buy a car from Old Town Automobile. I purchased a 67 Chevelle from Courtney several months ago, and the car has been in the shop off and on ever since. In the ad online, the car was listed as a 'COMPLETE RESTORATION' (yes, the ad had it in all caps) and was listed for top dollar (almost $70K). When cars have been completely restored, there is an expectation that everything either works, has been replaced/rebuilt or is like new. I live in CA, and traveling there to see the car in person wasn't an option at the time because of work and other things going on. I normally would never buy something like this sight unseen, but in this case, I had no choice. So I did my due diligence, and asked Courtney all the relevant questions (what do I need to know, what's wrong with it, etc). Courtney said the paint is not perfect, has some rock chips - all normal wear and tear. I said that's fine, that's all normal. That's all he ever said. I also hired Alex, a local inspector/appraiser (which Courtney recommended) to examine the car. He echoed the same sentiment as Courtney: beautiful showroom car. Later that day, Alex sent me dozens of photos (which I said I didn't want, I wanted a thorough inspection, not "glamor shot" photos). When the car was delivered, there was an issue with the tuning and EFI, which I raised to Courtney. He ended up paying for about half of a new EFI system, which was appreciated. Unfortunately, the work that was needed on the car didn't end there. Here's some highlights: - Radio doesn't work (and the left kick panel floor speaker is broken) - Part of the carpet above the floor pedals was missing (this is minor, but it was another thing that was never mentioned) - The front bucket seats and rear bench are completely broken down (the driver's side seat is collapsed and leaning to the left (the ad said the interior was brand new) - Passenger mirror is broken (glass is not cracked, but the ball bearing that holds the mirror won't keep it in place) - Weather stripping on the inside has come undone and is hanging down, and driver wing window leaks (I found that out when it rained) - The suspension made some really loud noises when I drove the car, it all had to be replaced - Gas gauge doesn't work - The headers had to be replaced (the front wheels rubbed when turning) - The driver's side window won't roll up all the way, has about a ¼ inch gap at the top (hardware had to be replaced on both doors) - I could go on, but you get the point... I ended up taking the car to a local classic car specialty shop to sort out everything that was wrong with the car. It wasn't cheap and I would have been better off buying an inexpensive Chevelle in the $20 - 30K range, gutting it and going through the whole thing with a new LS motor, interior, tranny, custom paint, etc. I mentioned to Courtney that Alex did a very cursory inspection and missed some major items that should have been caught. His response was: he doesn't look at those type of things (Alex told me he went through everything). The whole point to hire an inspector is to get a thorough evaluation of the car, not just a quick look at the paint, opening and closing of the doors to see if they worked, kicking of the tires and briefly looking at the other cosmetics (sure, the interior looks nice, but would have been helpful to know the seats were broken down). His inspection report also said the paint had no scratches and there were no issues (also would have been nice if he caught the big touch up mark right behind the driver's side door). I found that out when the car was delivered and immediately saw it (Courtney didn't mention that either until I brought it up and after it was delivered). The car was not accurately represented (that's putting it lightly). Courtney said it was in good shape and ran great - far from it. He also said he's only driven it a few miles and never personally inspected it or went through it in any detail while he had it and prior to me buying it. He said he has too many cars in his inventory to inspect each one. When a car is listed as a 'COMPLETE RESTORATION,' and you pay top dollar for it, you don't immediately expect to put 10s of thousands of dollars into it to get it dialed in. This should have just been listed as a 'nice Chevelle,' not something that was fully restored, because that was clearly not the case. You can't market and advertise the car and vouch/certify its condition as being completely restored (including a new interior, etc), then recommend that the car is evaluated by a third party inspector (which I did) before you purchase it and then not stand behind what you sell. I'm disappointed that all of my questions/hiring of a local inspector didn't uncover the true shape the car was in, and not happy with the fact that I've had to put so much money into it. read more
