If I could give this place no stars I would. I arrive to the dealership to get my car serviced (oil change and tire rotation). No one comes outside to give directions on anything; do I need to pull up, bring keys with me or leave them in the car, nothing was said because no one came outside. Now I'm inside speaking to a service agent and she gets me squared away. 1 hour pass, 2 hours pass, 3 hours pass and I have yet to receive any update on my vehicle, I go back to the service agent and she tells me that the mechanic stepped away and she'll check again in 10 minutes, she does that and then proceeds to tell me it'll be another 20 minutes and they'll be done. Why am I at a this dealership for the most basic thing such oil change and tire rotation for almost 4 hours. I will NEVER come here again to get my vehicle serviced, it should not take 4 hours. Only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the service agent was nice, empathetic, and understanding. read more

This was by far the best car buying experience my husband and I ever had. We live in Crofton and shopped at Toyota of Bowie and Toyota of Laurel only to have the worst experience and waste of time ever at both of those places, so a friend recommended Toyota of Southern Maryland. Thank God they did! I found the car I really wanted at a reasonable price. Everything about this experience was beyond amazing, from the sales "team" and I mean Team to the finance department. Came in for a state inspection. Failed for a couple small things. Wiper blades, a bulb and a window tint. For one, my windows had a negligible tint (multiple people who have driven my car were surprised to hear that there was any tint at all). Additionally, I was not informed about the 30 day rule where I could fix it myself and bring it back for a free second inspection, so I had them do it so I didn't have to pay for another inspection. All the parts and services were insanely marked up, so I ended up paying almost triple the inspection cost to change a light bulb, replace two wiper blades and remove a tint. Just seems predatory in the case of new people who are trying to figure out the laws in a new state. read more

Went out car shopping on Saturday to a number of dealerships in Calvert and St. Mary's. Felt very unimportant, rushed and pushed away at Toyota of Southern Maryland. Came specifically looking for a 4Runner and had a budget, did not receive any information on incentives, was offered to look inside of one vehicle that was already being looked at by another customer and did not feel welcome to shop at this establishment. Dropped my car off for an oil change. Was told Fridays are busy and was helping them out by not needing it done by a certain time. Was given 25 min of notice before they close that it was ready for pickup but they were sending to the wash. So I had a 5 minute window to pick up my car before close but they never told me I couldn't get it after close even though the dealership is open for another 3 hours. Our daughter was visiting from South Carolina and needed work on her Camry completed while here (brakes, coolant, etc etc) and Amber Bond in Service was outstanding. She did an excellent job of keeping us updated on recommended repairs and costs, and was extremely pleasant to work with. The Good - Bought a car here and the salesman was fantastic! I was in and out within 90 minutes. If Isaiah is still there, ask for him if you're buying a car. He will take care of you. The Bad (it's really Bad) - The Service Department is absolutely terrible! If you have a warranty that covers oil changes, be prepared to spend 2 hours + at the dealership. Also I wouldn't trust their courtesy inspection. I came in for an oil change and had a headlight out. I told them it was out at service desk when I checked in. When I was told my car was ready, I looked at their courtesy inspection sheet and it said it passed. Clearly they didn't check it or they would have seen it was out. So I go back inside after realizing it was still out, got the service manager and she fixed it free of charge. A few days later I was checking my fluids which should have been topped off (it passed their courtesy inspection as well) and my coolant was bone dry. Needless to say I wouldn't be going here if it wasn't for the free oil changes! On a positive note, the service manager was awesome to deal with. Also free car washes are only good if the car wash is operational. The car wash seems to be down more than it's up. It's also a very rough car wash, it knocked my grill guards off my car a few times. Overall if you're looking to buy, this is a great place to purchase a Toyota or a used car. If you're looking for a good service department, you're going to be disappointed. read more

The WORST- Took old Toyota truck in for seatbelt, antenna and environmental control panel back light replacements. I bought the parts from this same company for their installation. After dropping off my truck for the day I returned only to find out that they were unable or not capable of any of the repairs and directed me to find "someone somewhere" to weld a seat anchor bolt. This company did literally none of the work required/requested. I was charged over $100 dollars for a diagnostic which did not detect codes causing a previous known check engine light (three emissions codes) found by myself using a since acquired OBD2 type reader. I ended up completing the maintenance on the seatbelt myself using correct grade replacement bolts and will wait until it warms up a bit to complete the antenna and lights replacement which really should not be too difficult. Having said this, none of my service requests were/are outside the capability of a decent qualified mechanic but nevertheless were determined impossible by Toyota of Southern Maryland. As a person who has had a pretty good career in the customer service and repair industries I would have to say this organization is the worst seen, seriously. Funnily I still receive what must be automated emails telling me I still need their Toyota Service Expertise, I do not, I now get my parts from Waldorf and with many good/decent auto repair centers available in the area I am confident in saying I will never set foot in Toyota of Southern Maryland again. read more

After purchasing a vehicle from this dealership it was diagnosed with a SEROUS AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE transmission issue - plus several other issues. These were reported to the dealer immediately after purchase. Thus far, I have experienced over $3000 in repairs and rental cars on a vehicle I just purchased from them. Their claim that they thoroughly inspect the vehicle prior to purchase is either not true or a total joke. Their owners and management refuse to return a call or help to resolve the issues noted. This has been the worst car purchase experience EVER. Because no one will return my call and no one (owners or managers) wish to help resolve this, it can only be resolved by going to court and calling it out via social media. BUYER BEWARE. This dealership does not stand behind the product they sell. You will note that they probably won't even respond to this. read more

Since Craig Payne commented on Yelp (9-7-17) that he cared about customer satisfaction, I took him at his word and sent him an email on 9-10-17 to establish a path toward resolution. As of today (9-24-17), I've yet to receive a response from Craig or anyone else at Toyota of Southern Maryland. Clearly the responses provided on Yelp are simply to give the "appearance" that they care about customer satisfaction. In my opinion, that is simply not the case at all. I can see some people are happy with this dealership, but I have not had a good experience and will reiterate my previous caution "Let the Buyer Beware." read more

UPDATE: 31-JAN-18 Craig Payne, the General Sales Manager, reached out to me and apologized for the poor interaction I experienced on the 26th. He asked for my candid response and listened attentively. Following the conversation, he extended what I perceived was a reasonable offer on the van and on the Mazda3 for the trade in. I accepted the offer and ultimately purchased the van. I did decline the trade-in only because I realized I didn't mine attempting private sale. It was refreshing to speak to Craig and to discuss how the marketplace is changing for car sales. I enjoyed our conversation. I setup a time for pickup and he told me they'd have everything waiting. He delivered. I was in and out in 70 minutes. Yes, I timed it because I'm an engineer and I can't help myself. Craig's interpersonal skills saved the deal and made Toyota a quick sale on the used van. I was paired up with two young men who exemplified professionalism in a career field often plagued with unscrupulous behavior. I had the pleasure of working with Matt Tevis and Rob Lecowsky (sorry Rob, the paperworks outside in the van so that's how I think the spelling on your last name is). Matt explained the features of the van to me, he patiently walked me through the checkout process, and made sure this van met my requirements. Rob, the Financial manager, explained the different warranty options available to customers purchasing used-cars and took a keen interest in my Toyota shopping experience. I learned he is Rodney Holmes Nephew - small world. Today's experience is exactly how I envisioned purchasing a car from a dealership should be. Explain your requirements, agree to a reasonable price so both parties win, and be out the door in 1 hour. I highly recommend you request Matt Tevis as your sales associate. If you've had problems with this dealership in the pass, I suggest you directly reach out to Craig Payne. Craig is the franchises new General Manager of Sales and he genuinely cares about making your Toyota experience memorable - in a good way. Thank you Craig for amending my previous experience. I will surely be back in 2 years when it's time to replace my 1998 Tacoma (need back seats for the kids!). ------------------------------------ USED-CAR Experience: 26-JAN-18 Matt Tevis was my sales representative - he was professional and easy to work with. He greeted me when I parked my vehicle and shared with me the various minivan options on the lot. We visited the establishment looking strictly to purchase a used minivan. I told them upfront my expectations and what I thought was a reasonable price to pay. They use NADA as there source for market value prices. If you use nadaguides.com, that's their source - or at least that's what they try to follow. Looking at a 2014 Sienna LE with 87,775 miles shows a $16,300 price. The van has scratches and blemishes, but that's to be expected with most used cars. Looking at nadaguide, they paid anywhere from $11k to $13.5k for the trade-in. They also shared with me that they installed 4 new tires, wiper blades, and a new battery. Ultimately, they didn't budge much on the list price and weren't really interested in negotiating the price. I thought they could come down more - but that wasn't my issue. My issue was the low trade in. As seen in one of the attached images, the trade in value for a 2013 Mazda 3 I grand touring with $55.6k Miles on NADA ranges from $7.5k to $9.7k. They offered me $6.5k. I declined and then they went up to $7.5k the 2nd time. They wouldn't go any higher. Keep in mind NADA recommends the list price for the car to be $12k. Even if they gave me what I wanted ($9k in trade in), that's still a possible $3k in profit, in addition to whatever they'd make on the van itself. What irradiated me the most was the managers demeanor and attitude towards my offer. He told me "You're trying to get wholesale for the van and clean retail trade in for the mazda3". He didn't ask me how I came up with the numbers nor did he really ask me anything. He took it upon himself to come over and tell me I'm asking for the stars and Im not getting them essentially. That response told me he didn't listen at all to my request because it wasn't accurate or true. That interaction persuaded me to leave the establishment and not return. It also encouraged me to write this review. I don't recall his name, but he was an older fellow with a tattoo on his right arm. Recommend you request another sales manager. I've heard great things after the fact from family members about Mr Richard Bailey. Lesson learned is expect a low trade in with dealerships and little to no wiggle room on the used car Internet price. I also learned payment method has no impact on negotiations (I was paying with cash). If you want more money for the trade-I , I recommend just doing private sale. read more

The WORST and UPSETTING thing about this Toyota is that the Finance department is so unprofessional when returning calls regarding refunds. Promises after promises of calls to be return, and nothing! Promised that the refund would be out within a certain week and hasn't. It was been 3 months going on 4 that my refund check has not be issued, and a promise call was suppose to be made yesterday by Alissa but nothing! Seems like when it comes to getting customers to pay and receive payment they are quick, but when refunds is to happen it takes then FOREVER! I was visiting SoMD over Thanksgiving and needed an oil change on my Kia. Since the Kia dealership is all the way in Waldorf and Hyundai is a sister to Kia, I figured that getting service done here wouldn't be an issue. I called and made an appointment for the day before Thanksgiving (I can feel you shaking your head at me, it's ok). I arrived at 9:30 on the dot for my appointment and said I'd stay and wait... and then I realized there was a waiting room FULL of people. I figured that since I had an appointment, that had to mean something. WRONG. An hour and a half later, I finally got fed up and went to ask about where my car was. I was informed that normal service time for an oil change and tire rotation is an hour and a half. WHAT?! SERIOUSLY!? I tried to be patient, but the combination of noise overload (music from the showroom, televisions, employee conversations, other customer conversations, individuals on their phones, etc) and the wait really irked me. 15 minutes later, someone came to get me so I could pay and said they were pulling my car up, it just had to be dried off (post car wash). I was offered a 10% discount for my wait, which softened the blow a wee bit. After paying, I waited outside for almost 10 minutes for them to deliver my car. Apparently, being dried off must have meant sitting in the sun since there were dry water spots all over my car, but I didn't care since I'd been at the dealership for almost 2 hours and I needed to get on with my life. read more

Came in today to look at cars. I was pulling out when I saw their salespeople moving the cars off the grassy area from in front on their building along 235. They backed this suv straight off a curb dropping it about six inches. All I heard was banging and scraping noises. I was shocked this was how they treat vehicles that they charge hard working customers good money for. Never again will I come back, never will they get a dime from me. If you don't believe me just look at the curb at the entrance and exit to their dealership where they drive the cars on and off the grass in the front of their lot. That curb is covered in scrape marks and has chunks of missing concrete. read more

He helped answer all of my questions, very easy to work with and went out of his way to make sure I was 110% satisfied with my purchase and car buying experience. 75 year old mother-in-law went to Toyota of Southern Maryland last month for a recall for her airbag on her 2010 Toyota Corolla. She crawled out of there with a bill for $738.74!!! After conducting their standard inspection, they talked her into replacing her alternator and cleaning and adjusting her back brakes. The cost for the remanufactured alternator was $354.48 with $312.50 in labor. They charged her a total of $70.04 to clean her brakes. I called the service department manager to voice my displeasure with her bill and was told that really they did her a favor because she could have broken down on the side of the road. Well now that she can't pay her rent this month, she might be sleeping on the side of the road! Kids please don't send your parents to Toyota of Southern Md alone!!! read more

So I went there with my wife to look at mini vans. We ended up buying a Chrysler Pacifica 2017 in September 2019 we had some issues with the van when we purchased it like a couple recalls ,the DVD player ,and automatic doors. We where told to just bring it back at a later time and they would take it over to Chrysler and take care of the recalls and they would give us a loaner . Which was a lie . Then on our first oil change we brought up these issues and where told that we had to take the van over to Chrysler which meant no loaner . So on the first visit to get and oil change ,tire rotation and car wash . We where told it would take 1.5-2 hours to get done . After 1.5 hours the lady came up to me and says their almost done but you vehicle has some shields under it and they spilled some oil ,they are trying to clean it up .so after 2 and 1/2 hours at the dealership with 2 kids . They finally said they where done no car wash something was frozen and they couldn't do it. We drove off and got not even 5 miles down the road and smoke started coming out the vents . With fumes pouring into the van we pulled back to the dealership at this point I am getting a bit mad . Then they put us in this very little Toyota Corolla nothing like the van that they messed up during what should of been a routine oil change. We have the service plan here I wish I had never purchased anything from this place now I'm stuck . read more

I was looking online for a new or lightly used car, used their website to apply for the loan, low and behold by 9:00 the next morning they are on the phone with me and sending me an email. The email subject was you are pre approved, so I was happy. A phone conversation and a few emails later I find out that I'm not pre approved for anything at all! They want all the normal stuff any dealer would want to start a loan from scratch. It was just to get me in the door, they lied to me, outright lied to me and I don't do business with folks like that. read more

Okay this is length but worth the read. I have never ever left a review for anything before but I truly felt the need to for this establishment. 1) I had a horrible experience trying to buy a new Camry from this dealership in 2014. The sales person Robbie Anderson was extremely unprofessional. I still have lengthy emails in my inbox history of him calling me and another dealership "liars." He told me he wouldnt give me the student discount even thought I was 100% eligible because I was already "getting a good deal." I asked for a specific car and he said it was available at a different dealership but he didnt want to "use his day off" to get it and that another dealership was "feeding me poop". I cant make this stuff up guys. Needless to say he lost my business. 2) I was willing to let this go and write it off as a crazy salesman. I continued to get service on my car there. My car is push to start and I was having trouble with my key fob. When I brought it in to get an oil change, I asked them to check it out. They didnt even glance at it and said I would have to pay some exorbitant amount to get something diagnosed. I took it up to Bayside Toyota and they replaced the battery in the keys in literally 5 seconds for free. Never had an issue with it again. 3) Last time I took my car to get serviced they literally forgot my car was there and never serviced it. I went to go pick it up after work at the end of the day (after it had been sitting in their parking lot for 9 hours) and they had completely forgotten to service my car! Its a huge inconvenience to not have your car all day and arrange for a drop off/ pick up and I had to do it all over again because of their mistake. They were unapologetic and laughing about it but I didnt find it funny at all. 4) For some reason I kept giving them chances. I took my car to get an oil change yesterday and a few things happened that were the last nail in the coffin of me ever bringing my car there again. When I called to make the appt I said "I need to get my oil changed". When I dropped it off I said "Im here for my oil change appt". The little sticker on my windshield said it was time for an oil change. When I picked it up they said "oh all we did was rotate your tires". What??? Also, my maps on my GPS have never been correct since day 1. The version is from 2013! Maps update is included in Toyota Care. I said "For some reason the entire time I had Toyota Care you guys never updated my maps. Can you please update them?" they said "That will be $175 since you dont have Toyota Care anymore" . You're kidding right?? How is that for customer service - never do what was included in my services and then the very first time I go in there without Toyota Care they say I have to pay. They said they only update maps if someone specifically asks. I have asked before but the man basically called me a liar saying "I cant go off that - its not in your file". Also, if there are updates available wouldnt that mean the person will have issues with their maps? I dont get it. My family has lived in SOMD for years and we all buy Toyotas. I will drive to Prince Frederick before I ever give them my business again. A little customer service for a loyal local goes a long way but they just cant do that. Im surprised to see so many good reviews because just about everyone I talk to says they have horrible experiences at this dealership. read more

Nonetheless, Toyota is a great product, but I will go elsewhere from today and going forward for service and my next purchase. Just got off the phone with from Service Dept. They ordered the wrong part for a repair that was scheduled a week ago. This isn't the first time this has happened to me with this business. You would think they would offer a discount on the repair due to the inconvenience. Nope!!! Also, although they advertise a military discount, they do not apply it to every repair or part. I have purchased my last two vehicle's from here and was planning on upgrading but after my service yesterday, they have lost a customer. I took my vehicle in for a tune up and oil change. They have started something new where they take a picture of your vehicle all around it before they take it in, (they use a Ipad). They said I would be there for about two hours, I was there for 4. They asked did I want the complimentary car wash, I said yes. When they brought my car back as I started pulling out, I noticed my windshield was cracked. I went back in and told them, the guy at the desk came out and looked at it., and went and got the manager.I told them I did not have a crack when I came in. They pulled the iPad and no crack. First he said that I must have had a chip in it when I came in and it spread from the heat.The manager proceeded to tell me it could be from when they put it on the lift and the car was hot, or when it went through the car wash, because it was hot. I was so upset. It would not have been so bad if he didn't make it like it was my fault. he said we can call you insurance company ( I can do that). I told him that's not the point, I brought it in here with no crack. Now I have a big crack going down my window. They never said sorry or nothing just call your insurance company. That's what upset me the most. My husband and several other looked at it and said there is not chip anywhere, it was under my windshield blade. I was so upset how they treated me about it, I will never purchase another car from there again, my insurance company should not be responsible for something that happened under their care. You would think they would at least say next oil change on us. They lost a customer. Obviously that's why their taken pictures now, other things have happened.
