Two years ago, this company installed a brand-new AC unit for about $8,000. Just 13 months later, the unit broke down. When I called, they sent a technician who told me the repair would be covered under warranty and that I wouldn't be charged. However, after the repair, the unit broke down again less than a year later. When I contacted the company this time, they refused to come out unless I first paid an outstanding bill of $1,200--something I was never expecting based on what I had been told previously. When I asked why I was being charged, the representative explained that the warranty only covered the first year, and since the initial breakdown happened after 13 months, I had been billed for that repair. I then questioned how a $1,200 repair could be justified when the unit failed again so quickly afterward. The rep simply said this was "standard" in his experience, and "just the way it is". Overall, this has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I paid a significant amount for a new system, yet I've already dealt with multiple breakdowns and unexpected charges. We were in the process of planning the replacement of our aging HVAC system. We had connected with a different contractor via the Home & Garden Show. That company inspected our system and confirmed the need to replace it. As we researched further, we discovered that the other guys had very spotty Yelp reviews, so we decided to go with Rechtin instead. Their sales rep Scott was great! He was a former technician so he knew the details of each system very well. He was as honest a guy as you would ever want to meet. Not only did he not try to upsell us on a more expensive unit, he emphasized that the intro level system was very suitable for our house and steered us away from higher priced options because the extra features and efficiency didn't justify the price difference for our needs. As it turned out, our furnace conked out around this time, so Rechtin got a tech out to us quickly to get our old system running until the new one could be installed. The installation took two days, and the team was superbly skilled and courteous. The price of the work was not just fair, but very competitive. These guys took great care of our needs at a good price, and they were responsive when we needed them. What's not to love? read more

I purchased the annual maintenance contract and just had the spring maintenance done. I received a call that the technician, Zach, was on the way, then he arrived exactly at the time scheduled. He performed the spring maintenance by checking electrical connections, cleaning the outdoor condenser coil, etc. Zach reviewed the work he completed and the plan for ensuring my HVAC is in great working conditions for years to come. Called on a Friday morning for service for HVAC installed by Rechtin. Lady that answered informed technician will call me 15 minutes prior to arrival. Friday late afternoon I called back to inquire when my driver may be arriving as I noticed they close at 5:00. Dave Rechtin informed no technician will be coming over as they are busy and that they had ee absenteeism. ("A few called in.") He said if it was an emergency he could have someone arrive Friday night or Saturday. I asked if I would be charged a higher rate and Dave unsympathetically said YES! I was pissed to say the least as I waited all Friday afternoon for what I thought would be a technician making a service call. Dave Rechtin could care less as he replied, "I am sorry you feel that way." After having Rechtin install a compressor and later a HVAC and a 25 plus years of association with them, I have moved on!!! Having one's AC die in the middle of a heat wave is not fun. The old unit was several decades old so it was on borrowed time anyways. Like any smart consumer, I had a few estimates from companies and decided that Rechtin hit the spot price wise and reputation. The only negative aspects of this experience, besides having to actually pay for the new AC :), was that the new unit was not in stock and having to wait about 10 days during the aforementioned heat wave (interior home temps in the mid to high 80's) was a pain. The installers were courteous and on time (VERY important). They did leave a little bit of the "junk" from the install on the exterior and on the inside by the furnace, but it only took a few minutes to clean and collect. They do offer a sort of subscription service for seasonal checkups that provides discounts on repairs and parts. I believe it is worth it and would recommend considering it depending on your circumstance and financial abilities. read more

I'm always leery of HVAC companies who clean my furnace. I've had new furnaces,serviced by the company that installed them, try to sell me unneeded "repairs." Rechtin sent a clean, friendly technician who got right to work, cleaned the furnace, checked it out, cleaned up after himself, and informed me of the age and condition of my furnace. Our AC unit went out over a long hot weekend, so I called Tom Rechtin Heating & Air and they sent a tech over almost immediately. He was very informative on what the problem was and offered a couple solutions. With the age of the AC Unit being close to 20 years old, we made the decision to purchase a new unit. The tech called their service department who then followed up with me and they provided a couple different units to choose from. The service department was very knowledgeable and really helpful in making sure I picked the right model based on my needs. 2 days later, the Rechtin crew showed up and installed a new unit. I came home last night to a furnace that wouldn't heat! Brrrrr! The kitties and I hunkered down for the night and first thing in the morning I called Rechtin! They had a service man out to my house by 2pm that day and within the hour my heat was pumping again! This is the first time I've needed a HVAC service person so I wasn't sure what to expect. The service guy was super! He educated me about the piece that was broken and showed me how my furnace works (yeah learning!) and did it all with a smile! The pricing was pretty simple to understand. It was an $80 house call which got him to my door and had him diagnose the problem. Whatever he finds is broken he flips to that page in his big book of prices and it's a flat pre-determined fee to fix it. No matter how long it takes him to fix it. He fixed me right up and I'm finally thawing out! I removed a star since it took them from 8am-2pm to show up even though they are headquartered in my neighborhood. The lady in the morning who took my info told me they'd be out late morning to early afternoon. Is 2pm early afternoon? Probably. But if they had shown up at the start of that service window they'd have gotten a full 5 stars happily from me! I'll be calling them again the next time I need HVAC help! read more

I would not reccomend rechtin to anyone, it was really bad service! When I called about the work not being done correctly I had nothing but rude from the lady that Answred the phone, then I asked for the owner I was given a guy to talk to that wasn't the owner who was rude as well ! read more

We had our air conditioner break a couple of years ago, and called a company from a certain national chain of HVAC service companies, who came out and told us we needed an entirely new HVAC system for $12k. Ouch! I had called that company because they had bought out the people who originally installed the unit in my house, but I decided I'd get a second opinion from an authorized Carrier servicer, so I called Tom Rechtin. I'm so happy I did; they were able to fix the unit by replacing the AC coil, for more like $2000. And it's been running great in the 2 1/2 years since. I've also bought a service contract from Tom Rechtin since then so they come out twice a year to keep things running great, and have had them do a couple of minor repairs, and they are always friendly, polite, seem to do a good job and are willing to spend a few minutes explaining things and answering any questions I have. They usually send the same guy out (John B. is great!) which means they get to know your system well. For something like HVAC service, where you have to rely on the honesty of the company at least to some extent, I feel like we get great service and a fair deal. I've been very happy with Tom Rechtin, and plan to keep giving them my business, and if you're looking for an HVAC service company in Northern Kentucky, I'd give them a call. read more

My husband and I recommend Tom Rechtin Heating & Air Conditioning because they have a reputation of being reliable, professional and trustworthy. Today, they went over and beyond what anyone would expect to make sure a potentially dangerous situation was avoided and did so at a very fair cost. Their employees were timely, extremely efficient, professional, and even compassionate in the midst of a hectic morning. We've compared them with other companies over a 25 year span of doing business with them, and there IS NO Heating and Air Conditioning company that holds a candle to them. After being ripped off by other HVAC companies, I thought this one might be different. It's not. I was sold upgraded Coil that could handle the new R-419 refrigerant, that now doesn't seem to exist. I was sold an A/C unit that there is no record of having been sold to me (so they won't honor any warranty), the paperwork says they replaced a compressor! But maker of the unit traced it back to Rechtin. They had sold me a unit that was already a couple of years old. How can you tell when someone is a liar? Try this... Furnaces and A/C units have model numbers and serial numbers that have some basic information as part of that number, so people in the business don't have to look it up. For example nearly all makers of AC units will have the Ton capacity in the Model number. In the case of my AC unit the serial number began with the year it was made. People working in this business, know this stuff very well. I spoke with Tom, and brought up the issues I noted above. He asked me the serial number of the AC unit. Then after saying they didn't sell it to me, but acknowledging that the manufacturer sold it to them and they repaired it a year after it was installed at my home... he says we have no idea how old this unit is. THAT IS A LIE. The serial number started with the year, it was obvious how old the unit was. The unit was sold to them and they know it, and they know when. So, would you trust someone like that? You can't trust anything they would tell you. But, in their defense... I haven't been able to find anyone in this area who is also not a rip off. This is the business to be in! read more
