I frequent this Tom Thumb often and all the times I've stopped by for groceries, the staff has been friendly and provided good customer service. March 24, 2026 I wanted to give a huge shout-out to Anna Marie for being so patient, welcoming, personable and going above and beyond in her customer service. I was looking for a fruit platter or something similar to take for a picnic with my friends and our kiddos. Anna Marie helped me by showing me the different varieties they have and asked some great questions to gauge what would be the best option for what I wanted. She also called when the platter was ready for pickup. They have a sheet for you to fill out along with the date you would like the platter of sandwiches, fruit, etc. and also connect information. It was such a positive experience, and I was a tad stressed, so having her help me was definitely a relief. The ambiance can get busy, depending on the time of day you're there. I am marking this a neutral rating because I am here to comment. I helped open this store as a young 16 year old back 1990 and learned a lot about customer service during my 4 years at this location. It's sad to see after all these years(based on comments here) that the store has moved away from the core values it started with. As a customer service manager even at a young age i understood the value of the community around me providing them a safe place to shop was always at the top of our list. Started working at the nearby Goody Goody Liquor and needed a quick bite to eat for dinner break. Found a roast beef sandwich from their deli, which was delicious. I've shopped at the Camp Bowie Tom Thumb for many years, dodged the panhandlers in the parking lot and put up with checking out my own groceries time after time, but as of today, I am done. If this was a low-end discount grocery store, I could justify it. But this is Tom Thumb! It started in the deli. I waited and waited for the young person to finish what he/she was doing and help me. They came over and just stood there. I asked for a pound of ham, sliced. They got the ham out of the case, took it to the slicer and asked me how I wanted it sliced. I asked if they had a chart, and they said, "There." Not seeing it, I asked "where?" They kept pointing and finally shouted at me, "THERE!!!" I almost walked away, but decided to get my ham. The person asked me again, "how much?" I couldn't hear through their mask and they shouted "HOW MUCH???!" It was starting to feel hostile... I'd calmed down by the time I got to the checkout, but a sketchy guy pushed ahead of me as I was loading my groceries on the belt and cut in front of me in the checkout line! I had to stand there and wait while both his credit cards were declined and as he dug cash out of all his pockets. He pulled out several one-hundred dollar bills. I remarked to the checker that this was the first time I'd ever had this happen in a grocery store, and he said nothing. Bottom line: Camp Bowie area is not what it used to be. Parking lot feels dangerous. Store is run down and employees lack training and customer service skills. A manager or team of managers needs to be on the floor at all times to address problems. read more

So I normally don't shop at Tom Thumb because they are known as one of the higher groceries that doesn't necessarily specialize in something. Kind of like Trader Joe's is known for having good items you can't get elsewhere, sprouts usually has bulk items you can get by the pound, Kroger has boars head deli meat ... Tom Thumb back in the day would give frequent flier miles with rewards but that has been gone a good 15/20 years. This location I happen to be in the area for my kiddo to have a camp nearby. I didn't want to drive to far but needed to pick up some drinks and this was the quickest place to purchase what I needed while needing to kill time. First of I saw a security guard as I walked in, not another store I've been too while my kid has been in camp has had a guard and if they do it was less obvious. This store also has a horrible selection. The location I've been to closer to home is slightly bigger but has what feels like double the selection. I was thinking of getting some candy for my daughter, but they only have less than 1/4 of what the other location I've been to has. So I ended up adding a stop to dollar tree which happened to be right next door to find a few more things I needed. The single staff member I talked to was really nice but I was shocked to find out they stopped price matching. Making my total about $2 more than if I had gone to where I normally would have gone too. $2 isn't much particularly when dealing with convenience over savings; I may have spent that in gas; but anyway. I'll just plan on stopping in elsewhere whenever I'm running around when my kiddo takes camps in the area. read more

You shouldn't feel so frustrated going to the grocery store. The produce section was abysmal. No chopped white onion, no riced cauliflower in bags or store prepped, they have it laid out so it's impossible to navigate. I've been shopping forever and can figure out my way around a store, but this was horrible & add to it the lack of product. I go to TT on W 7th all the time, it's a joy to go there. This location was so bad, I'll never come back to this one. Think of this as the Ross of Tom Thumb... I don't have time to go all over the store to get what I need. I just wanted to give this store some kudos to their sanitation efforts during this COVID-19 pandemic. I shop among several local stores and this one has been the best overall. They have devoted a whole team whose sole job is keeping the store safe as possible and protecting their customers. Also a special shout out to Gene and all the other cashiers and staff who are managing to maintain a sense of humor and positive outlook despite being treated badly by frazzled and short-tempered customers. WOW. Human feces in the produce section. So I am at Tom Thumb doing my grocery shopping for the week and when I go to the produce section to weigh my ginger root I find two nuggets of HUMAN FECES on the scale!!! Omg I was so disgusted!! How can they expect to stay in business when they have poop in the produce section?? I asked the lost prevention guy (this chubby white guy) if he could have someone clean it but he said to just use the other scale. I was so disgusted!! I then asked to speak to the manager and this white lady (didn't get her name) told me it was normal to come across situations like this!! WHAT?!?!?!?Definitely never shopping here again! Horrible experience at Tom Thumb today. Went and bought groceries and they were having trouble with the receipts not printing up with any prices. However we had kept track of all the prices for the products and knew we were vastly overcharged on everything. Took it up to customer service and ask them and Shernoff as they started checking prices they realize that instead of as an example candy buy two get three free they just charge us for five. So the manager came up and was in such a foul mood she started to wait on us helped other people came back and waited on us help more people by the time it was said and done we returned everything and just went to Walmart. Goodbye Tom Thumb you just lost our business forever!!! read more

I was visiting my mother and stopped in here to buy her flowers. The Tom Thumb I shop at in Dallas has really nice flowers. The bouquet I wanted because of the colors had old roses. I spoke with the manager, Mr. Schaffer and showed him what I was talking about. He told me they were expecting more in the next day but I was leaving that day. I asked him for a discount because the roses were only going to last about another day and he said they didn't do discounts on flowers. I bought them anyways but I felt something could have been done and I will NOT be shopping at this store when I am in the area next time. read more

Customer service needs immediate attention. Lack of urgency, chatting with your. coworkers rather assisting customers is unacceptable.

I've had one too many sketchy situations happen here. Most recently I went because this was the closest Tom Thumb with the Pfizer vaccine. As I was shopping with my son I realized a man was following us and recording us on his phone. I told the manager about this and pointed the man out. At first the manager confused this creep with "a different guy who likes to take women's purses". Then he realized this was a completely different predator and had an attitude like "oh that sucks, sorry." I told the manager that I'd handle it if he didn't and I walked over to this man and told him he wasn't leaving the store without deleting the video he took of me and my son. Long story very short, this man took his phone out and I saw the video. I called the manager over to take a look before it got deleted. As i was walking out of the store I heard the manager tell this man that following me and my son and recording us was "not cool"... are you kidding me? Train your managers. I used to live close by and was a frequent Tom Thumb shopper. Apparently it's been awhile. Don't get me wrong, if you need something chances are Tom Thumb will have what you need, it'll be better quality item. However, you also pay the price . They have everything you could want and their vegetables and fruits are always fresh and won't disappoint. Beef is a good quality with a good assortment of better cuts at around the same price as most grocery stores. Originally I visited Sprouts because they had watermelon for $2 in their ad. Unfortunately, due to demand, a rain check is all they could offer me. I ran into Tom Thumb to get the pineapple and the watermelon I needed for a summer potluck. I knew walking through the doors I was going to pay more than $2 from the watermelon. I hadn't really thought of how high I was willing to go. But when I saw the sign that said watermelon $6.99 or download the Tom Thumb app for$ 2.99... on a hot day when I'd already not been able to get what I want at one store..... to see $4 price difference ... irritated me. I don't shop there often enough to download the app I'm tired of downloading apps for my favorite stores! So, it could just be me. But I wana get a market price for my purchase and don't think I should be penalized for walking into the store without my phone. read more

Food and food stock are great. However, save two or three cashiers, service is disgruntled at best. This poor behavior is best exemplified by management. I repeatedly see management arguing with/chastising employees at the checkout line. I understand this frustration because I used to work in grocery myself, but I would never take it out on customers or handle these situations publicly. As for the floor of the store, good luck finding anyone to help. You will need to go to the front of the store or find someone behind a counter to help. This does not apply to the produce staff, those guys always seek customers out. But produce alone will not keep me coming back if I have to go through crazy and unhappy checkout lines unless it's after 10 pm. read more

This Tom Thumb is clean and well organized. The parking lot can be a mad house since it's in a strip mall. I find the organic produce and meat selections to be pretty limited or poor quality so I prefer to stop here for shelf items and basics household goods. Check out lines are always quick and they keep several lanes open to avoid a pile up. read more

If you want to work here, do it if you love drama and immature adults. Another thing perverts, the manager robin supports and favors them. Now, there is always two sides to certain situations, but take it from a recent employee who has dealt and witnessed employees being slapped on there behind by another employee. It was reported to robin, she did nothing. She switched there shifts and the employee is still working there. The employee only got suspended for three days!. And the female employee quit a week or two later because of the incident. And yes, she favors him! He is one of her favorites. The dairy worker stares at females and turns his head just to look at you for the longest time. Mo, the deli manager likes to come in hungover sometimes and you are even able to smell the alcohol. Robin likes to act like she's doing work, when yes indeed she does, which includes sitting on the computer doing office work and she likes to stay and hide in there all day "doing office work." If you love attitude and being around a fake environment then this job suits you well!, They will be super nice at first but give it time and you will experience the worst amongst the employees and managers. read more

I've been going to this grocery store for years. I love going here and knowing the friendly staff that works there (their turnover seems to be very low). I also love avoiding some of the rift raft of people you'll find at some other grocery stores. Overall this is a great grocery store and I highly recommend it (unless you are a person contributing to the rift raft of people I try to avoid). read more

I dislike Tom Thumb stores. They're extremely overpriced and while it looks neat and clean, they're actually kind of dirty if you look closely. This location didn't even have any grapes! Also, they have meat out that has to be sold that day and it's not even discounted. If you look in the fresh meat section you can see the drippings in the refrigerator...gross. I don't understand how they stay in the game with all these other grocery stores that are clean and cheap, including Walmart and Target. read more

I like this Tom Thumb. It's pretty and clean on the inside, and generally the staff are very friendly and provide good service. I don't usually shop at Tom Thumb, as some things can be pricey, but if ever I am in need of something for dinner or for the house, I make a grocery run here on my lunch break and I can usually find a decent deal. Produce is fresh, and the fresh baked goods are high-quality (try the garlic naan and the muffins, yum!). They have a nice selection of items, even carrying ethnic food varieties in the aisles. There are three grocery stores fairly near where I live (Ridglea North) but I always go to the Tom Thumb (Not the Albertson's or the Fiesta) because it's clean, well stocked with a helpful and courteous staff. The "Tom Thumb" card can shave a fair amount of the purchase price, the wine selection is pretty good for a grocery store, and on evenings and weekends one can run into many acquaintances wandering the aisles (everyone I know shops here!) read more

Called customer service to ask a question about the hours of operation, it rang a very long time, when the clerk answered the phone she was very rude. She didn't even greet me at all and when I greeted her she huffed and sucked her teeth. Not bad, clean and decent produce selection. Make sure to thoroughly check your produce, I have sometimes bought berries only to get home and see that half of them are strategically hidden and already rotten. Meat and seafood selection is okay. They always have great deals for those who have a tom thumb card, I wouldn't shop there without one. It's free so no reason not to get one. read more

This is a good store at best. It could be cleaner and kept up better. I think is also has a lot to do with the property owners management group. Food selection there is great and the service is just "OK". I don't like the the deli and the bakery always "Can't you the register because there is no till". I went inside to purchase bacon and while cutting the bacon the meat man severed his pinky tip in my meat and began to scream and pointed at me and proceeded to say mecha lecha high mecha hinny ho! squeal like a pig you dime store tramp, and then he rubbed bacon all over his body, afterwords i used that bacon to feed my hungry cat mr. meow meow yellow whiskers. read more
