First off, Tom is a fantastic guy and he's a master at his craft. Very quirky and if he can't make you laugh, no one can. DO NOT fall into the marketing trap that just because something is a component set that it's some how inferior because you couldn't be more wrong. I'm a 5 handicap player and I can tell you that Tom's clubs are just as good at half the price or better. Not to mention the skill he has at fitting each individual based on skill level, stance, swing speed, height, various swing habits, etc I had been seeking out a new set of forged irons for some time and tested every club out there from Nike to Mizuno until I heard of a rather innovative design by Dynacraft with their Tour Prophet Irons. I've played my share of expensive brands over the years, but I also know that there are some component clubs out there which are fantastic. I did a little research on local Dynacraft dealers and Tom came up as a well reviewed club fitter. Within about 30 seconds of meeting him, I knew he was the guy and really knows his stuff. He went right to task on letting me test the Dynacraft there in the shop. I have been playing Cleveland forged clubs the last few years but the Dynacraft were like butter by comparison and felt amazing from the first swing. Tom analyzed my swing speed and quickly determined the appropriate shaft and suggested a great grip. By the end of the hour I was convinced and pulled out the credit card. In the end I paid half what I would have paid for a set of 3-PW Mizunos I had been considering, but with Tom, the price also included 3 wedges! I gave my old Clevelands to a buddy of mine and Tom fitted him too (He's 6'9"), extended the shafts, and threw on some grips at a great price. I have been so impressed with Toms overall service, selection, and knowledge that I just had my girlfriend fitted for a full set of woods and irons, and with the putter included, I spent a fraction on what I would have spent elsewhere. The bottom line here is that if you are considering a set of golf clubs, regardless of your skill level, you'd be a fool not to at least pay Tom a visit. read more

This place is great. The owner, Tom Wells, is such a character! Always wearing his straw hat and dispensing advice on your swing, Tom is kind of an oracle! He makes great clubs, and always has good deals in his shop. If you're in the area, stop by and hit a few balls on his swing simulator, and if new gear beckons, give his sticks a try! read more

'Ive been buying golf clubs from Tom Wells for years. He has a quircky little golf shop relocated from Seattle a few years ago to Mukilteo, WA on the speedway. Tom sells mostly off-brand or clone clubs for about a third to half what you would pay for the real thing. This works out great for my boys who seem to outgrow clubs every year and don't need name brand right now. Tom understands drivers in particular. I think he was a long drive champ in the past. He can order pretty much anycombo you want. Stiff, long shafts not a problem. You can find some bargains in his used club bin aswell. I found a nice Vokey wedge for $25.00 Only problem is the location is not the most convenient and practice net is not the best but it is worth the effort for the service and price savings to me. read more

Beware: Tom Wells Golf is NOT what it used to be. I returned to playing frequent golf last year, after several years away. I had purchased my clubs from Tom Wells Golf on Aurora Avenue in 1986, and an upgrade was overdue. So I googled Tom Wells Golf and was pleasantly surprised to see that he was still in business. I wasn't happy to have to drive to Clinton, but my previous experience had been good, so I called and made an appointment. This was in July, 2018. I expected a typical golf store, with a mat to hit balls into a net, and several employees, just as the Aurora Avenue store had had. Instead, my drive to the address on Frost Road/Avenue brought me to Clinton Self Storage. Suite 101 is nothing more than storage locker 101, which is rented by Tom. Tom appeared from around the back of the storage locker facility. Until he can get a hip replacement, he walks slowly with a cane. Tom is a very likable guy. As he opened the locker, he quizzed me on what my game was like, and what I was looking for in new clubs. He loaded a large golf bag with about 25 clubs, then told me to put them in my car; "We're going to the range. You're driving." I bought some range tokens at a nearby store, then Tom navigated me to the Island Greens Golf course and range, a few miles away. Tom watched my swing closely, and provided some tips. He had me try the various clubs and kept track of which ones I hit well and which ones I didn't. I felt that I was getting a free golf lesson from a pro. Tom was outstanding. Afterwards, I drove us back to the storage locker, and Tom asked what I was interested in buying, if anything. He itemized an estimate for a full set of new clubs, the ones that I had hit well. It was very close to my budget, so I placed the order. Tom took my credit card (writing it down on a sheet of paper), and said they would be done in about 2 weeks. Perfect! Would I like to pick them up, or have them shipped? I opted for shipping. Tom totaled the amount, which I approved. He offered me his hand-written notes so that I could take a picture of the "invoice" with my cell phone. Still looking around for "the rest" of his business, I asked whether he would build my clubs, or someone else. Tom replied, "Oh, I have some young guys who build them for me." My credit card was charged the day I met with Tom. But my clubs never arrived. I called Tom after 3 weeks, 1 month, and 6 weeks. There was always an excuse: not done; my irons were on backorder; I just need to put grips on them; I've been sick... About this time, I noticed the Facebook reviews for Tom Wells Golf... and I got worried. Then Tom stopped answering my calls. After 8 weeks, I did manage to reach him once more. He said he had finished my clubs and was shipping them that day. I even offered to drive up to Clinton to have him teach me how to build my own clubs. I was serious about it, and he sounded excited about this, but insisted that my clubs were already done. They never arrived, and he never again answered my calls. I filed a dispute with my credit card company within the time window they allow, and the dispute was resolved in my favor. Unfortunately, they would not reveal whether they got the money back from Tom, or just "ate" the cost themselves. So I don't know whether Tom benefited from our transaction. I really, really, wanted things to work out with Tom Wells. I like him a lot. I was worried about his physical and mental health. I gave him every benefit of the doubt, and tried my hardest to work with him for a mutually agreeable solution. But in the end, I have no clubs and no answers. I simply cannot recommend Tom Wells Golf, and it pains me to say so. Tom is such a likeable guy. read more

I placed an order for a driver on 7/7/14 with the thoughts I would get my driver within 2 weeks. Well it's been 1 month and 3 days and I can't even get him to return my phone call. All I want is the driver I paid for or my money back. But if you can't talk to him, what do you do. I tried to call him on a Friday, Monday Tuesday and have not heard a word in response. I'm 55 and like most golfers I have the Craig Stadler (The Walrus) type of golf physique which means your club head speed is probably around 80-90'S. You would be happy with just another 20 yards in distance. Well Tom is your guy. He can figure out your handicaps and put you into a club or clubs that will definitely reduce your score by several strokes. I met Tom at Freeland café on Whidbey Island as he no longer has a retail shop. Actually the ride to the driving range was great because Tom is the encyclopedia of golf for the tri-county area leading back to the sixties. After warming up I showed Tom my swing he immediately started calculating some changes. After discerning club speed, loft, and lie it was time to figure what type of club head I needed to hit the ball well. After an hour passed all came together and I was hitting golf balls 275 and better with the proper customized to me driver. So any of you golfers that paid $350 or more for a driver and it only goes 200 yards, wake up I paid $120 for my custom driver and I have shaved 15 strokes off my game.
