Good price. Very fast, fresh and filling. Music and seating is good. Worth a stop if you're hungry.

Tomatillo Taco Joint is a quick serve spot perfect for grabbing a bite to eat. They have a menu full of tacos, burritos, nachos and quesadillas. The nachos were definitely our favorite. They also have smoothies, the mango coolada was delicious. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean.

I'm not sure how long this establishment has been open, but I'm so disappointed I have not tried them sooner. Their food is amazing. I order online, and it's ready by the time I arrive. I've had the same thing twice, which was the shrimp enchiladas with salsa roja (spicy). You have a choice of black beans or pinto beans, cilantro lime rice or dirty rice. I chose the dirty rice along with the pinto beans. It also came with a lemonade, because of the total. $22 for the enchiladas along with chips and guac. A little pricey but well worth it flavor wise. The lemonade was sweet and tangy. And I absolutely love their guacamole. It's an amazing portion, topped with a little bit of pico and the chips are freshly made. They have a pretty extensive menu. I believe they offer vegan ground "beef", but it isn't listed on the app I use to place my order. I highly recommend this establishment. Perhaps I will branch off and try something else the next time but their enchiladas are pretty tasty!

Tomatillo is one of those places I've been driving past for years on trips to New Haven and always wondered what it was like! I needed something quick but not too filling to eat before an event, so my fiancé and I stopped here. It wasn't anything too crazy, but it served what we were looking for in the moment. The salsas were pretty yummy! The rice and steak were just okay, I think they could've used more flavor.

Tomatillo is one of my favorite places because not only can I order easily from UberEats, when I come in they remember my order easily. I enjoy the burrito bowl and the mango coolada, and both are prepared exactly how I like every time.

I really liked Tomatillo! I stopped here after an event in downtown New Haven with a friend. We both got a build your own bowl which was super yummy. I love a good burrito bowl that's packed with toppings. They were close to closing time so they didn't have the full selection of toppings, but we made the best of it! Definitely a great spot for takeout.

Tomatillo has been a favorite of mine for years! Located right in downtown making it so convenient when I use to work downtown. The owner and staff are always so sweet! Chicken Burrito bowls are always my go to and I get them loaded with everything. Pair this with their pina colladas and churros and lunch is a done deal!

Really satisfying chicken nacho platter, I enjoyed it immensely.

Really yummy flavors, and the guacamole is actual mashed avocado with cilantro and other seasonings, not a water down tomatillo salsa with just a hint of avocado... Like some other joints that will remain nameless. I ordered via Uber eats, but the next time I'm in the area, I would love to dine in! A+ from me, Gracias

Filling, but a bland burrito. At Tomatillo Taco Joint in New Haven, CT.

Food is so good! It's very fun to sit out on the patio and enjoy their buffalo chicken nachos.

This is Yale's version of Chipotle. The meat tastes better than a standard fast food chain, but the rest of the offerings are ok.

A Spectacular Night at Geronimo's Scorpion Table!…read more Our group of 10 booked a dinner at Geronimo for a wedding weekend in New Haven (some locals, some from Boston and some from Austin), and we could not have picked a better spot. As a New Haven native myself, I'll admit I wasn't expecting to be this blown away -- what a fantastic surprise to find this gem in my hometown! We got seated at the scorpion table -- two real scorpions under the glass tabletop. While we had our eyes on scorpion #1, scorpion #2 was never to be found. I was mildly concerned that he found his way out of the table. Manager Nicole and our server Sharree made the night. Both were outgoing, warm, and clearly knew the menu inside and out -- their recommendations were spot on for a big group that wanted to share everything. We started with the tableside guacamole (made fresh right in front of us -- great touch), moved on to nachos that lived up to the hype, and then enjoyed the "mix and match" taco party along with a few quesadillas on the side. Everything came out fast, hot, and perfectly timed for a table of 10, which is no small feat. The drinks deserve their own paragraph -- the tequila selection is genuinely impressive, and every drink we ordered was as good as the last. Whoever's behind that bar program knows what they're doing. If you're in New Haven for any reason -- a wedding, a visit home, or just passing through -- do yourself a favor and get a table at Geronimo. Ask for the scorpion table, order the guac, and let Nicole or Sharree take it from there. We'll be back next time we're in town!

Cilantro Fresh Mexican Grill is a fast-casual Mexican-style restaurant that opened in New Haven,…read moreConnecticut in 2012. It was founded by restaurateur couple Chris Guerra and Sara Holycross. Guerra opened his first restaurant, Dayton Street Apizza, in New Haven in 1998 when he was just 23. The success of the pizzeria was enough for him to open a sister pizzeria, First Street Apizza, in Seymour in 2005. Eventually Guerra decided to purchase the building that Dayton Street Apizza was housed in. For the opposite side, he had originally thought about opening a Chinese restaurant. Then he and his partner Holycross realized that Mexican culture was thriving in New Haven. Many of the kitchen staff at Dayton Street Apizza were of Latino descent and they would frequently heat up their authentic Spanish and Mexican meals in the kitchen. Although fast-casual chains such as Chipotle Mexican Grill or Moe's Southwest Grill were popular, Guerra and Holycross eschewed the assembly line style of food preparation for a traditional made-to-order style of preparation. This meant that their food would be fresher and the menu more nimble. When it opened in 2012, Cilantro was met with much acclaim. Guerra sadly passed away unexpectedly in 2016; Holycross continues to run his three restaurants. My wife and I have been to Cilantro several times and have never been disappointed. When they first opened, my wife and I had recently started dating and she lived in an apartment down the street. We've been fans of their food ever since. We recently stopped there for dinner with our two boys on Cinco de Mayo. Cilantro's take-out business was pretty busy that day, but the dining room wasn't too crowded for sit-down meals. We started off with some of their complimentary chips and salsas as well as a large order of their delicious "Guacamole". For our entrées, I had the "Tostada Salad w/ Steak" (fried flour tortilla shell filled with/ lettuce, black beans, guacamole, sour cream, & pico de gallo), my wife had the "Shrimp Bowl" (fresh grilled shrimp, lime, jack & cheddar, pinto beans, red cabbage, pico de gallo, tangy dressing), our older son had the "Kids Steak Taco" (soft corn tortilla w/ cheddar cheese), and our younger son had the "Kids Chicken Quesadilla". Everything was delicious; super fresh ingredients and all bursting with flavor! Unfortunately, Cilantro does not have a bar: no margaritas for us. However, they do carry bottle beer, wine, and sangria. I enjoyed a cup of "Red Sangria while my wife enjoyed a cup of "White Sangria". I must say that in addition to the excellent food, Cilantro also has excellent staff and service. Overall, we had another very enjoyable experience. The high-quality food and competitive prices here must not be overlooked.
